Acts 14

1 And it fortuned in Iconium that they went both to gether into the synagoge of ye Iewes and so spake that a gret multitude both of ye Iewes and also of the Grekes beleved.

Or il arriva qu’à Iconium ils entrèrent ensemble dans la synagogue des Juifs, et parlèrent de telle sorte qu’une grande multitude de Juifs et de Grecs crurent.

2 But the unbelevinge Iewes steryd vp and vnquyeted the myndes of the Gentyls agaynste the brethre.

Mais les Juifs qui ne croyaient pas émurent et irritèrent les esprits [de ceux] des nations contre les frères.

3 Longe tyme a bode they there and quyt them selves boldly with the helpe of the Lorde the which gave testimony vnto ye worde of his grace and caused signes and wondres to be done by their hondes.

Ils séjournèrent donc là assez longtemps, parlant hardiment, [appuyés] sur le Seigneur, qui rendait témoignage à la parole de sa grâce, accordant que des miracles et des prodiges se fassent par leurs mains.

4 The people of the cyte were devided: and parte helde with the Iewes and parte with the Apostles.

Mais la multitude de la ville fut partagée, et les uns étaient avec les Juifs, et les autres avec les apôtres.

5 When ther was a saute made both of the gentyls and also of the Iewes with their rulers to put them to shame and to stone

Et ceux des nations et les Juifs avec leurs chefs s’étant soulevés pour les outrager et pour les lapider,

6 the they were ware of it and fled vnto Listra and Derba cities of Licaonia and vnto the region that lyeth round aboute

– eux l’ayant su, s’enfuirent aux villes de Lycaonie, à Lystre et à Derbe et dans les environs;

7 and there preached the gospell.

et ils y évangélisaient.

8 And ther sate a certayne man at Listra weake in his fete beinge creple from his mothers wombe and never walkyd.

Et [il y avait] à Lystre un homme impotent de ses pieds, [qui] se tenait assis; perclus dès le ventre de sa mère, il n’avait jamais marché.

9 The same hearde Paul preache. Which behelde him and perceaved that he had fayth to be whole

Cet homme entendait parler Paul qui, fixant ses yeux sur lui et voyant qu’il avait la foi pour être guéri,

10 and sayd with a loude voyce: stond vp right on thy fete. And he stert vp and walked.

[lui] dit à haute voix: Lève-toi droit sur tes pieds. Et il sautait et marchait.

11 And when the people sawe what Paul had done they lifte vp their voyces sayinge in the speache of Lycaonia: Goddes are come doune to vs in the lyknes of men.

Et les foules, ayant vu ce que Paul avait fait, élevèrent leur voix, disant en lycaonien: Les dieux, s’étant faits semblables aux hommes, sont descendus vers nous.

12 And they called Barnabas Iupiter and Paul Mercurius because he was the preacher.

Et ils appelaient Barnabas Jupiter, et Paul Mercure, parce que c’était lui qui portait la parole.

13 Then Iupiters Preste which dwelt before their cite brought oxe and garlondes vnto the churche porche and wolde have done sacrifise with the people.

Et le sacrificateur du Jupiter qui était devant la ville, ayant amené des taureaux et des couronnes jusqu’aux portes, voulait sacrifier avec les foules.

14 But when the Apostles Barnabas and Paul herde that they rent their clothes and ran in amonge the people cryinge

Mais les apôtres, Barnabas et Paul, l’ayant appris, déchirèrent leurs vêtements et s’élancèrent dans la foule, s’écriant

15 and sayinge: syrs why do ye this? We are mortall men lyke vnto you and preache vnto you that ye shuld turne from these vanyties vnto ye lyvinge God which made heaven and erth and the see and all that in them is:

et disant: Hommes, pourquoi faites-vous ces choses? Nous sommes, nous aussi, des hommes ayant les mêmes passions que vous; et nous vous annonçons que de ces choses vaines vous vous tourniez vers le Dieu vivant, qui a fait le ciel, et la terre, et la mer, et toutes les choses qui y sont;

16 the which in tymes past suffred all nacions to walke in their awne wayes.

lequel dans les générations passées a laissé toutes les nations marcher dans leurs propres voies;

17 Neverthelesse he lefte not him selfe with outen witnes in that he shewed his benefites in gevinge vs rayne from heaven and frutefull ceasons fyllinge oure hertes with fode and gladnes.

quoique cependant il ne se soit pas laissé sans témoignage, en faisant du bien, en vous donnant du ciel des pluies et des saisons fertiles, remplissant vos cœurs de nourriture et de joie.

18 And with these sayinges scase refrayned they the people that they had not done sacrifice vnto them.

Et en disant ces choses, à peine empêchèrent-ils les foules de leur sacrifier.

19 Thither came certayne Iewes fro Antioche and Iconium and optayned the peoples consent and stoned Paul and drewe him oute of the cyte supposynge he had bene deed.

Mais des Juifs arrivèrent d’Antioche et d’Iconium; et ayant gagné les foules et lapidé Paul, ils le traînèrent hors de la ville, croyant qu’il était mort.

20 How be it as the disciples stode rounde about him he arose vp and cam into the cyte. And the nexte daye he departed with Barnabas to Derba.

Mais comme les disciples se tenaient autour de lui, se levant, il entra dans la ville; et le lendemain il s’en alla avec Barnabas à Derbe.

21 After they had preached to that cite and had taught many they returned agayne to Lisira and to Iconium and Antioche

Et ayant évangélisé cette ville-là et fait beaucoup de disciples, ils s’en retournèrent à Lystre, et à Iconium, et à Antioche,

22 and strengthed the disciples soules exhortinge them to continue in the faith affyrminge yt we must thorowe moche tribulacion entre into the kyngdome of God.

fortifiant les âmes des disciples, les exhortant à persévérer dans la foi, et [les avertissant] que c’est par beaucoup d’afflictions qu’il nous faut entrer dans le royaume de Dieu.

23 And when they had ordened them elders by eleccion in every congregacio after they had yrayde and fasted they comended them to God on whom they beleved.

Et leur ayant choisi des anciens dans chaque assemblée, ils prièrent avec jeûne, et les recommandèrent au Seigneur en qui ils avaient cru.

24 And they went thorow out Pisidia and came into Paphilia

Et ayant traversé la Pisidie, ils vinrent en Pamphylie;

25 and when they had preached the worde of God in Perga they descended in to Attalia

et ayant annoncé la parole à Perge, ils descendirent à Attalie;

26 and thence departed by shippe to Antioche fro whence they were delivered vnto the grace of God to the worke which they had fulfilled.

et de là ils se rendirent par mer à Antioche, d’où ils avaient été recommandés à la grâce de Dieu pour l’œuvre qu’ils avaient accomplie.

27 When they were come and had gaddered the congregacion to gedder they rehersed all that God had done by them and how he had opened the dore of faith vnto the getyls.

Et, étant arrivés, et ayant réuni l’assemblée, ils racontèrent toutes les choses que Dieu avait faites avec eux, et comment il avait ouvert aux nations la porte de la foi.

28 And ther they abode longe tyme with the disciples.

Et ils séjournèrent assez longtemps avec les disciples.
