Matthew 9
1 Afterwards Jesus got into a boat, and, crossing over, came to his own city.
E, entrando no barco, passou para a outra banda, e chegou à sua cidade. E eis que lhe trouxeram um paralítico deitado numa cama.
2 And there some people brought to him a paralysed man on a bed. When Jesus saw their faith, he said to the man: “Courage, Child! Your sins are forgiven.”
E Jesus, vendo a sua fé, disse ao paralítico: Filho, tem bom ânimo, perdoados te são os teus pecados.
3 Then some of the teachers of the Law said to themselves: “This man is blaspheming!”
E eis que alguns dos escribas diziam entre si: ele blasfema.
4 Knowing their thoughts, Jesus exclaimed: “Why do your cherish such wicked thoughts?
Mas Jesus, conhecendo os seus pensamentos, disse: Porque ajuizais mal em vossos corações?
5 Which, I ask, is the easier? — to say ‘Your sins are forgiven’? or to say ‘Get up, and walk about’?
Pois qual é mais fácil? dizer: Perdoados te são os teus pecados; ou dizer: Levanta-te e anda?
6 But, that you may know that the Son of Man has power on earth to forgive sins” — then he said to the paralysed man — “Get up, take up your bed, and return to your home.”
Ora, para que saibais que o Filho do homem tem na terra autoridade para perdoar pecados (disse então ao paralítico): Levanta-te; toma a tua cama, e vai para tua casa.
7 The man got up and went to his home.
E, levantando-se, foi para sua casa.
8 When the crowd saw this, they were awe-struck, and praised God for giving such power to men.
E a multidão, vendo isto, maravilhou-se, e glorificou a Deus, que dera tal autoridade aos homens.
9 As Jesus went along, he saw a man, called Matthew, sitting in the tax-office, and said to him: “Follow me.” Matthew got up and followed him.
E Jesus, passando adiante dali, viu assentado na alfandega um homem, chamado Mateus, e disse-lhe: Segue-me. E ele, levantando-se, o seguiu.
10 And, later on, when he was at table in the house, a number of tax-gatherers and outcasts came in and took their places at table with Jesus and his disciples.
E aconteceu que, estando ele em casa assentado à mesa, chegaram muitos publicanos e pecadores, e assentaram-se juntamente à mesa com Jesus e seus discípulos.
11 When the Pharisees saw this, they said to his disciples: “Why does your Teacher eat in the company of tax-gatherers and outcasts?”
E os fariseus, vendo isto, disseram aos seus discípulos: Porque come o vosso Mestre com os publicanos e pecadores?
12 On hearing this, Jesus said: “It is not those who are in health that need a doctor, but those who are ill.
Jesus, porém, ouvindo, disse-lhes: Não necessitam de médico os sãos, senão os doentes.
13 Go and learn what this means — ‘I desire mercy, and not sacrifice’; for I did not come to call the religious, but the outcast.”
Ide, porém, e aprendei o que significa: misericórdia quero, e não sacrifício. Porque eu não vim para chamar os justos, mas os pecadores, ao arrependimento.
14 Then John’s disciples came to Jesus, and asked: “Why do we and the Pharisees fast while your disciples do not?”
Então chegaram ao pé dele os discípulos de João, dizendo: Porque jejuamos nós e os fariseus muitas vezes, e os teus discípulos não jejuam?
15 Jesus answered: “Can the bridegroom’s friends mourn as long as the bridegroom is with them? But the days will come, when the bridegroom will be parted from them, and they will fast then.
E disse-lhes Jesus: Podem porventura andar tristes os filhos das bodas, enquanto o esposo está com eles? Dias, porém, virão em que lhes será tirado o esposo, e então jejuarão.
16 No man ever puts a piece of unshrunk cloth on an old garment; for such a patch tears away from the garment, and a worse rent is made.
E ninguém deita remendo de pano novo em vestido velho, porque semelhante remendo rompe o vestido, e faz-se maior o rasgão;
17 Nor do people put new wine into old wine-skins; for, if they do, the skins burst, and the wine runs out, and the skins are lost; but they put new wine into fresh skins, and so both are preserved.”
Nem deitam vinho novo em odres velhos; aliás rompem-se os odres, e entorna-se o vinho, e os odres estragam-se; mas deitam vinho novo em odres novos, e ambos se conservam.
18 While Jesus was saying this, a President of a Synagogue came up and bowed to the ground before him. “My daughter,” he said, “Has just died; but come and place your hand on her, and she will be restored to life.”
Dizendo-lhes ele estas coisas, eis que chegou um principal, e o adorou, dizendo: Minha filha faleceu agora mesmo; mas vem, impõe-lhe a tua mão, e ela viverá.
19 So Jesus rose and followed him, and his disciples went also.
E Jesus, levantando-se, seguiu-o, ele e os seus discípulos.
20 But meanwhile a woman, who had been suffering from haemorrhage for twelve years, came up behind and touched the tassel of his cloak.
E eis que uma mulher que havia já doze anos padecia de um fluxo de sangue, chegando por detraz dele, tocou a orla do seu vestido;
21 “If I only touch his cloak,” she said to herself, “I shall get well.”
Porque dizia consigo: Se eu tão somente tocar o seu vestido, ficarei sã.
22 Turning and seeing her, Jesus said: “Courage, Daughter! your faith has delivered you.” And the woman was delivered from her malady from that very hour.
E Jesus, voltando-se, e vendo-a, disse: Tem ânimo, filha, a tua fé te salvou. E imediatamente a mulher ficou sã.
23 When Jesus reached the President’s house, seeing the flute players, and a number of people all in confusion,
E Jesus, chegando a casa daquele principal, e vendo os instrumentistas, e o povo em alvoroço,
24 he said: “Go away, the little girl is not dead; she is asleep.” They began to laugh at him;
Disse-lhes: retirai-vos, que a menina não está morta, mas dorme. E riam-se dele.
25 but, when the people had been sent out, Jesus went in, and took the little girl’s hand, and she rose.
E, logo que o povo foi posto fora, entrou, e pegou-lhe na mão, e a menina levantou-se.
26 The report of this spread through all that part of the country.
E espalhou-se aquela notícia por todo aquele país.
27 As Jesus was passing on from there, he was followed by two blind men, who kept calling out: “Take pity on us, Son of David!”
E, partindo Jesus dali, seguiram-no dois cegos, clamando, e dizendo: Tem compaixão de nós, filho de David.
28 When he had gone indoors, the blind men came up to him; and Jesus asked them: “Do you believe that I am able to do this?” “Yes, Master!” they answered.
E, quando chegou a casa, os cegos se aproximaram dele; e Jesus disse-lhes: Credes vós que eu possa fazer isto? Disseram-lhe eles: Sim, Senhor.
29 Upon that he touched their eyes, and said: “It shall be according to your faith.”
Tocou então os olhos deles, dizendo: Seja-vos feito segundo a vossa fé.
30 Then their eyes were opened. Jesus sternly cautioned them. “See that no one knows of it,” he said.
E os olhos se lhes abriram. E Jesus ameaçou-os, dizendo: olhai não o saiba alguém.
31 But the men went out, and spread the news about him through all that part of the country.
Mas, tendo ele saído, divulgaram a sua fama por toda aquela terra.
32 Just as they were going out, some people brought up to Jesus a dumb man who was possessed by a demon;
E, havendo-se eles retirado, trouxeram-lhe um homem mudo e endemoninhado.
33 and, as soon as the demon had been driven out, the dumb man spoke. The people were astonished at this, and exclaimed: “Nothing like this has ever been seen in Israel!”
E, expulso o demônio, falou o mudo; e a multidão se maravilhou, dizendo: Nunca tal se viu em Israel.
34 But the Pharisees said: “He drives out the demons by the help of the chief of the demons.”
Mas os fariseus diziam: ele expulsa os demônios pelo príncipe dos demônios.
35 Jesus went round all the towns and the villages, teaching in their Synagogues, proclaiming the Good News of the Kingdom, and curing every kind of disease and every kind of sickness.
E percorria Jesus todas as cidades e aldeias, ensinando nas sinagogas deles, e pregando o evangelho do reino, e curando todas as enfermidades e moléstias entre o povo.
36 But, when he saw the crowds, his heart was moved with compassion for them, because they were distressed and harassed, ‘like sheep without a shepherd’;
E, vendo a multidão, teve grande compaixão deles, porque andavam desgarrados e errantes, como ovelhas que não tem pastor.
37 and he said to his disciples: “The harvest is abundant, but the labourers are few.
Então disse aos seus discípulos: A seara é realmente grande, mas poucos os ceifeiros.
38 Therefore pray to the Owner of the harvest to send labourers to gather in his harvest.”
Rogai pois ao Senhor da seara que mande ceifeiros para a sua seara.
