Matthew 27
1 At daybreak all the Chief Priests and the Councillors of the Nation consulted together against Jesus, to bring about his death.
Al llegar la madrugada, todos los principales sacerdotes y los ancianos del pueblo se reunieron en consejo contra Jesús para matarlo.
2 They put him in chains and led him away, and gave him up to the Roman Governor, Pilate.
Después de atarlo, [lo] llevaron y [lo ]entregaron a Pilato, el procurador.
3 Then Judas, who betrayed him, seeing that Jesus was condemned, repented of what he had done, and returned the thirty pieces of silver to the Chief Priests and Councillors.
Entonces Judas, el que lo entregó, al ver que fue condenado, sintió remordimiento. Devolvió las 30 piezas de plata a los principales sacerdotes y ancianos
4 “I did wrong in betraying a good man to his death,” he said. “What has that to do with us?” they replied. “You must see to that yourself.”
y dijo: Pequé al entregar sangre inocente. Pero ellos dijeron: ¿Y a nosotros qué? ¡Allá tú!
5 Judas flung down the pieces of silver in the Temple, and left; and went away and hanged himself.
Después de tirar las piezas de plata en el Santuario, se retiró. Luego fue y se ahorcó.
6 The Chief Priests took the pieces of silver, but they said: “We must not put them into the Temple treasury, because they are blood-money.”
Los principales sacerdotes tomaron las piezas de plata y dijeron: No es lícito echarlas en el tesoro por cuanto es precio de sangre.
7 So, after consultation, they bought with them the ‘Potter’s Field’ for a burial-ground for foreigners;
Tomaron consejo y compraron con ellas el campo del alfarero como cementerio para extranjeros,
8 and that is why that field is called the ‘Field of Blood’ to this very day.
por lo cual fue llamado Campo de Sangre hasta hoy.
9 Then it was that these words spoken by the Prophet Jeremiah were fulfilled — ‘They took the thirty pieces of silver, the price of him who was valued, whom some of the people of Israel valued,
Entonces se cumplió lo dicho por el profeta Jeremías: Tomaron las 30 piezas de plata, precio del Valorado, a Quien [los] hijos de Israel le fijaron precio,
10 and gave them for the Potter’s field, as the Lord commanded me.’
y las dieron por el campo del alfarero, como el Señor me ordenó.
11 Meanwhile Jesus was brought before the Roman Governor. “Are you the King of the Jews?” asked the Governor. “It is true,” answered Jesus.
Jesús fue llevado ante el procurador Pilato, quien le preguntó: ¿Eres Tú el Rey de los judíos? Jesús respondió: Tú [lo] dices.
12 While charges were being brought against him by the Chief Priests and Councillors, Jesus made no reply.
Al ser acusado por los principales sacerdotes y los ancianos, Él nada respondió.
13 Then Pilate said to him: “Do not you hear how many accusations they are making against you?”
Pilato entonces le preguntó: ¿No oyes cuántas cosas testifican contra Ti?
14 Yet Jesus made no reply — not even a single word; at which the Governor was greatly astonished.
Pero no le respondió ni una palabra, hasta el punto de asombrar en gran manera al procurador.
15 Now, at the Feast, the Governor was accustomed to grant the people the release of any one prisoner whom they might choose.
Ahora bien, en cada fiesta el procurador acostumbraba soltar un preso a la multitud, el que quisieran.
16 At that time they had a notorious prisoner called Barabbas.
Entonces tenían un preso famoso llamado Barrabás.
17 So, when the people had collected, Pilate said to them: “Which do you wish me to release for you? Barabbas? Or Jesus who is called ‘Christ’?”
Al reunirse ellos, Pilato les preguntó: ¿A quién quieren que les suelte: A Barrabás o a Jesús, el llamado Cristo?
18 For he knew that it was out of jealousy that they had given Jesus up to him.
Porque sabía que por envidia lo entregaron.
19 While he was still on the Bench, his wife sent this message to him — “Do not have anything to do with that good man, for I have been very unhappy to-day in a dream on account of him.”
Cuando él estaba sentado en el tribunal, su esposa le mandó a decir: No te metas con ese Justo, porque hoy he sufrido mucho en sueños a causa de Él.
20 But the Chief Priests and the Councillors persuaded the crowds to ask for Barabbas, and to kill Jesus.
Pero los principales sacerdotes y los ancianos persuadieron a la multitud para que pidieran a Barrabás y mataran a Jesús.
21 The Governor, however, said to them: “Which of these two do you wish me to release for you?” “Barabbas,” they answered.
El procurador les preguntó: ¿A cuál de los dos quieren que les suelte? Ellos dijeron: ¡A Barrabás!
22 “What then,” Pilate asked, “shall I do with Jesus who is called ‘Christ?’ “Let him be crucified,” they all replied.
Pilato les preguntó: ¿Qué hago a Jesús, el llamado Cristo? Dijeron todos: ¡Que lo crucifiquen!
23 “Why, what harm has he done?” he asked. But they kept shouting furiously: “Let him be crucified!”
Él insistió: ¿Pues qué mal hizo? Pero ellos gritaban aún más: ¡Crucifíquenlo!
24 When Pilate saw that his efforts were unavailing, but that, on the contrary, a riot was beginning, he took some water, and washed his hands in the sight of the crowd, saying as he did so: “I am not answerable for this bloodshed; you must see to it yourselves.”
Al ver Pilato que nada se lograba, sino más bien se formaba un alboroto, tomó agua, se lavó las manos delante de la turba y dijo: ¡Soy inocente de la sangre de Éste! ¡Allá ustedes!
25 And all the people answered: “His blood be on our heads and on our children’s!”
Todo el pueblo respondió: ¡Su sangre sea sobre nosotros y sobre nuestros hijos!
26 The Pilate released Barabbas to them; but Jesus he scourged, and gave him up to be crucified.
Entonces les soltó a Barrabás. Después de azotar a Jesús, lo entregó para que fuera crucificado.
27 After that, the Governor’s soldiers took Jesus with them into the Government House, and gathered the whole garrison round him.
Los soldados, después de llevar a Jesús a la residencia oficial del procurador, reunieron a toda la tropa alrededor de Él.
28 They stripped him, and put on him a red military cloak,
Después de desnudarlo, le pusieron un manto escarlata.
29 and having twisted some thorns into a crown, put it on his head, and a rod in his right hand, and then, going down on their knees before him, they mocked him. “Long life to you, King of the Jews!” they said.
Luego, trenzaron una corona de espinas y la pusieron en su cabeza. Colocaron una caña en su mano derecha. Lo ridiculizaban, se arrodillaban ante Él y le decían: ¡Honor a Ti, Rey de los judíos!
30 They spat at him and, taking the rod, kept striking him on the head;
Lo escupieron, tomaron la caña y [le] golpeaban la cabeza.
31 and, when they had left off mocking him, they took off the military cloak, and put his own clothes on him, and led him away to be crucified.
Cuando lo ridiculizaron, le quitaron el manto, le pusieron su ropa y lo llevaron para crucificarlo.
32 As they were on their way out, they came upon a man from Cyrene of the name of Simon; and they compelled him to go with them to carry the cross.
Al salir, hallaron a Simón cireneo, a quien obligaron a llevar la cruz [de Jesús].
33 On reaching a place named Golgotha (a place named from its likeness to a skull),
Después de llegar a un lugar llamado Gólgota, es decir: Lugar de [la] calavera,
34 they gave him some wine to drink which had been mixed with gall; but after tasting it, Jesus refused to drink it.
le dieron vino mezclado con hiel, pero luego de probarlo no quiso beber.
35 When they had crucified him, they divided his clothes among them by casting lots.
Después de crucificarlo, echaron suerte para repartirse sus ropas,
36 Then they sat down, and kept watch over him there.
y sentados allí, lo vigilaban.
37 Above his head they fixed the accusation against him written out — ‘THIS IS JESUS THE KING OF THE JEWS.’
Por encima de su cabeza pusieron escrita la acusación contra Él: Éste es Jesús, el Rey de los judíos.
38 At the same time two robbers were crucified with him, one on the right, the other on the left.
Dos ladrones fueron crucificados con Él: uno a la derecha y otro a la izquierda.
39 The passers-by railed at him, shaking their heads as they said:
Los que pasaban lo insultaban, meneaban la cabeza,
40 “You who ‘destroy the Temple and build one in three days,’ save yourself! If you are God’s Son, come down from the cross!”
y decían: El que derriba el Santuario y en tres días lo reedifica, ¡sálvese Él mismo! Si es Hijo de Dios, ¡descienda de la cruz!
41 In the same way the Chief Priests, with the Teaches of the Law and Councillors, said in mockery:
De igual manera, los principales sacerdotes se burlaban junto con los escribas y ancianos, y decían:
42 “He saved others, but he cannot save himself! He is the ‘King of Israel’! Let him come down from the cross now, and we will believe in him.
A otros salvó, Él mismo no se puede salvar. ¡Es Rey de Israel! ¡Descienda ahora de la cruz, y creeremos en Él!
43 He has trusted in God; if God wants him, let him deliver him now; for he said ‘I am God’s Son.’”
Confió en Dios. Que lo libre ahora si quiere, porque dijo: Soy Hijo de Dios.
44 Even the robbers, who were crucified with him, reviled him in the same way.
Del mismo modo lo insultaban los ladrones que fueron crucificados con Él.
45 After mid-day a darkness came over all the country, lasting till three in the afternoon.
Desde las 12 del día hasta las tres de la tarde hubo oscuridad sobre toda la tierra.
46 And about three Jesus called out loudly: “Eloi, Eloi, lema sabacthani” — that is to say, ‘O my God, my God, why has thou forsaken me?’
Alrededor de las tres de la tarde, Jesús exclamó a gran voz: Elí, Elí, ¿lemá sabajtani? Esto es: Dios mío, Dios mío, ¿por qué me desamparaste?
47 Some of those standing by heard this, and said: “The man is calling for Elijah!”
Algunos de los que estaban allí, al oír [esto], decían: Éste llama a Elías.
48 One of them immediately ran and took a sponge, and, filling it with common wine, put it on the end of a rod, and offered it to him to drink.
Al instante, uno de ellos corrió, tomó una esponja, la empapó en vinagre, la colocó en una caña y le daba de beber.
49 But the rest said: “Wait and let us see if Elijah is coming to save him.” [However another man took a spear, and pierced his side; and water and blood flowed from it.]
Pero los demás decían: Deja, veamos si Elías viene a salvarlo.
50 But Jesus, uttering another loud cry, gave up his spirit.
Entonces Jesús, después de clamar otra vez a gran voz, entregó el espíritu.
51 Suddenly the Temple curtain was torn in two from top to bottom, the earth shook, the rocks were torn asunder,
Sucedió que el velo del Santuario se rasgó en dos, de arriba abajo. La tierra fue sacudida y las rocas fueron partidas.
52 the tombs opened, and the bodies of many of God’s People who had fallen asleep rose,
Se abrieron los sepulcros y muchos cuerpos de los santos que habían dormido fueron resucitados.
53 and they, leaving their tombs, went, after the resurrection of Jesus, into the Holy City, and appeared to many people.
Cuando salieron de los sepulcros, entraron en la Ciudad Santa. Después de la resurrección de Él aparecieron a muchos.
54 The Roman Captain, and the men with him who were watching Jesus, on seeing the earthquake and all that was happening, became greatly frightened and exclaimed: “This must indeed have been God’s Son!”
Cuando el centurión y los que custodiaban a Jesús vieron el terremoto y lo que sucedía, se atemorizaron y dijeron: ¡En verdad Éste era Hijo de Dios!
55 There were many women there, watching from a distance, who had accompanied Jesus from Galilee and had been attending on him.
Muchas mujeres estaban allí quienes miraban desde lejos. Ellas seguían y servían a Jesús desde Galilea,
56 Among them were Mary of Magdala, Mary the mother of James and Joseph, and the mother of Zebediah’s sons.
entre las cuales estaban María Magdalena, María, la madre de Jacobo y José, y la madre de los hijos de Zebedeo.
57 When evening had fallen, there came a rich man belonging to Ramah, named Joseph, who had himself become a disciple of Jesus.
Por la tarde un discípulo de Jesús llamado José, hombre rico de Arimatea,
58 He went to see Pilate, and asked for the body of Jesus; upon which Pilate ordered it to be given him.
se presentó ante Pilato y le pidió el cuerpo de Jesús. Entonces Pilato ordenó que se le diera.
59 So Joseph took the body, and wrapped it in a clean linen sheet,
José tomó el cuerpo, lo envolvió en una sábana limpia
60 and laid it in his newly-made tomb which he had cut in the rock; and, before he left, he rolled a great stone against the entrance of the tomb.
y lo puso en un sepulcro nuevo de su propiedad, el cual había excavado en la roca. Y después de rodar una gran piedra hasta la entrada del sepulcro, se retiró.
61 Mary of Magdala and the other Mary remained behind, sitting in front of the grave.
Y María Magdalena y la otra María estaban sentadas allí frente al sepulcro.
62 The next day — that is, the day following the Preparation-Day — the Chief Priests and Pharisees came in a body to Pilate, and said:
El día después de la Preparación, los principales sacerdotes y fariseos se reunieron con Pilato
63 “Sir, we remember that, during his lifetime, that impostor said ‘I shall rise after three days.’
y le dijeron: Señor, nos acordamos que aquel impostor, cuando aún vivía, dijo: Después de tres días, seré resucitado.
64 So order the tomb to be made secure till the third day. Otherwise his disciples may come and steal him, and then say to the people ‘He has risen from the dead,’ when the latest imposture will be worse than the first.”
Manda, pues, asegurar el sepulcro hasta el tercer día, no sea que vengan los discípulos, lo hurten y digan al pueblo que resucitó de entre los muertos. Entonces será el último engaño peor que el primero.
65 “You may have a guard,” was Pilate’s reply; “go and make the tomb as secure as you can.”
Pilato les dijo: Ustedes tienen una guardia. Vayan, asegúrenlo como saben.
66 So they went made the tomb secure, by sealing the stone, in presence of the guard.
Ellos salieron, aseguraron el sepulcro y sellaron la piedra en compañía de la guardia.
