Matthew 22
1 Once more Jesus spoke to them in parables.
Jesús les habló otra vez en parábolas:
2 “The Kingdom of Heaven,” he said, “may be compared to a king who gave a banquet in honour of his son’s wedding.
El reino celestial puede compararse a un rey que hizo fiesta de bodas para su hijo.
3 He sent his servants to call those who had been invited to the banquet, but they were unwilling to come.
Envió a sus esclavos a llamar a los invitados a la fiesta de bodas, pero no quisieron ir.
4 A second time he sent some servants, with orders to say to those who had been invited ‘I have prepared my breakfast, my cattle and fat beasts are killed and everything is ready; come to the banquet.’
Volvió a enviar a otros esclavos y dijo: Anuncien a los invitados: Miren, preparé mi banquete. Sacrifiqué mis novillos y las reses engordadas. Todo está dispuesto. Vengan a la fiesta de bodas.
5 They, however, took no notice, but went off, one to his farm, another to his business;
Pero ellos no tomaron en cuenta la invitación. Se fueron, uno a su campo, el otro a su negocio,
6 while the rest, seizing his servants, ill-treated them and killed them.
y los demás detuvieron a los esclavos [enviados], los maltrataron y los mataron.
7 The king, in anger, sent his troops, put those murderers to death, and set their city on fire.
Entonces el rey se enfureció, envió sus ejércitos, mató a aquellos homicidas y quemó su ciudad.
8 Then he said to his servants ‘The banquet is prepared, but those who were invited were not worthy.
Después dijo a sus esclavos: La boda a la verdad está preparada, pero los invitados no eran dignos.
9 So go to the cross-roads, and invite everyone you find to the banquet.’
Por tanto vayan a las encrucijadas de los caminos y llamen a cuantos hallen a la fiesta de bodas.
10 The servants went out into the roads and collected all the people whom they found, whether bad or good; and the bridal-hall was filled with guests.
Y cuando aquellos esclavos salieron a los caminos, reunieron a todos los que hallaron, tanto malos como buenos, y el salón de bodas se llenó de invitados.
11 But, when the king went in to see his guests, he noticed there a man who had not put on a wedding-robe.
Pero cuando el rey entró a ver a los invitados, encontró allí a un hombre que no estaba vestido con traje de boda.
12 So he said to him ‘My friend, how is it that you came in here without a wedding-robe?’ The man was speechless.
Y le dijo: Amigo, ¿cómo entraste aquí sin traje de boda? Pero él enmudeció.
13 Then the king said to the attendants ‘Tie him hand and foot, and ‘put him out into the darkness’ outside, where there will be weeping and grinding of teeth.’
Entonces el rey dijo a los sirvientes: Átenlo de pies y manos y échenlo a la oscuridad de afuera. Allí será el llanto y el crujido de los dientes,
14 For many are called, but few chosen.”
porque muchos son [los] llamados, pero pocos [los ]escogidos.
15 Then the Pharisees went away and conferred together as to how they might lay a snare for Jesus in the course of conversation.
Entonces los fariseos se fueron y deliberaron cómo enredarlo en alguna palabra.
16 They sent their disciples, with the Herodians, to say to him: “Teacher, we know that you are an honest man, and that you teach the way of God honestly, and are not afraid of any one; for you pay no regard to a man’s position.
Le enviaron a los discípulos de ellos con los herodianos para que dijeran: Maestro, sabemos que eres veraz y enseñas con verdad el camino de Dios. No te cuidas de nadie, pues no miras la apariencia de los hombres.
17 Tell us, then, what you think. Are we right in paying taxes to the Emperor, or not?”
Dinos. ¿Qué te parece? ¿Es lícito pagar tributo a César, o no?
18 Perceiving their malice, Jesus answered: “Why are you testing me, you hypocrites?
Pero Jesús entendió la malicia de ellos y respondió: ¿Por qué me tientan, hipócritas?
19 Show me the coin with which the tax is paid.” And, when they had brought him a florin,
Muéstrenme la moneda del tributo. Y ellos le presentaron un denario.
20 he asked: “Whose head and title are these?”
Les preguntó: ¿De quién es la imagen y la inscripción?
21 “The Emperor’s,” they answered: on which he said to them: “Then pay to the Emperor what belongs to the Emperor, and to God what belongs to God.”
Contestaron: De César. Entonces les ordenó: Den, pues, a César lo de César, y a Dios lo de Dios.
22 They wondered at his answer, and left him alone and went away.
Al oír [esto] se maravillaron, lo dejaron y salieron.
23 That same day some Sadducees came up to Jesus, maintaining that there is no resurrection. Their question was this: —
Aquel día se le acercaron [los] saduceos, quienes dicen que no hay resurrección, y le preguntaron:
24 “Teacher, Moses said — ‘should a man die without children, the man’s brother shall become the husband of the widow, and raise a family for his brother.’
Maestro, Moisés dijo: Si alguno muere y no tiene hijos, su hermano se casará con la esposa de él y levantará descendencia a su hermano.
25 Now we had living among us seven brothers; of whom the eldest married and died, and, as he had no family, left his wife for his brother.
Ahora bien, había entre nosotros siete hermanos. El primero que se casó, murió, y como no tenía descendencia, dejó su esposa a su hermano.
26 The same thing happened to the second and the third brothers, and indeed to all the seven.
De la misma manera, también el segundo y el tercero, hasta el séptimo.
27 The woman herself died last of all.
Al final de todos, murió la mujer.
28 At the resurrection, then, whose wife will she be out of the seven, all of them having had her?”
En la resurrección, ¿de cuál de los siete será esposa? Porque todos la tuvieron.
29 “Your mistake,” replied Jesus, “is due to your ignorance of the Scriptures, and of the power of God.
Jesús les respondió: Están errados porque no entienden las Escrituras ni el poder de Dios.
30 For at the resurrection there is no marrying or being married, but all who rise are as angels in Heaven.
Porque en la resurrección, no se casan ni son dados en casamiento, sino son como los ángeles en el cielo.
31 As to the resurrection of the dead, have you not read these words of God —
Pero en cuanto a la resurrección de los muertos, ¿no leyeron lo dicho por Dios a ustedes:
32 ‘I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob’? He is not the God of dead men, but of living.”
Yo soy el Dios de Abraham, de Isaac, y de Jacob? Dios no es Dios de muertos sino de vivos.
33 The crowds, who had been listening to him, were greatly struck with his teaching.
La multitud oyó y se maravilló de su doctrina.
34 When the Pharisees heard that Jesus had silenced the Sadducees, they collected together.
Entonces, al oír los fariseos que [Jesús] silenció a los saduceos, se pusieron de acuerdo.
35 Then one of them, a Student of the Law, to test him, asked this question —
Uno de ellos, para tentarlo, le preguntó:
36 “Teacher, what is the great commandment in the Law?”
Maestro, ¿cuál es [el ]gran Mandamiento en la Ley?
37 His answer was: “‘Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.’
Le respondió: Amarás al Señor tu Dios con todo tu corazón, con toda tu alma y con toda tu mente.
38 This is the great first commandment.
Éste es el grande y primer Mandamiento,
39 The second, which is like it, is this — ‘Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thou dost thyself.’
y el segundo es semejante a éste: Amarás a tu prójimo como a ti mismo.
40 On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets.”
De estos dos Mandamientos dependen toda la Ley y los profetas.
41 Before the Pharisees separated, Jesus put this question to them —
Se reunieron los fariseos y Jesús les preguntó:
42 “What do you think about the Christ? Whose son is he?” “David’s,” they said.
¿Qué piensan ustedes del Cristo? ¿De quién es Hijo? Le respondieron: De David.
43 “How is it, then,” Jesus replied, “that David, speaking under inspiration, calls him ‘lord,’ in the passage —
Les preguntó: ¿Pues cómo David en espíritu lo llama Señor? Dice:
44 ‘The Lord said to my Lord: “Sit at my right hand, until I put thy enemies beneath thy feet”’?
Dijo el Señor a mi Señor: Siéntate a mi mano derecha Hasta que ponga a tus enemigos debajo de tus pies.
45 Since, then, David calls him ‘lord,’ how is he David’s son?”
Pues si David lo llama Señor, ¿cómo es su Hijo?
46 No one could say a word in answer; nor did any one after that day venture to question him further.
Nadie le podía responder, y desde aquel día nadie más se atrevió a preguntarle algo.
