Matthew 2
1 After the birth of Jesus at Bethlehem in Judea, in the reign of King Herod, some Astrologers from the East arrived in Jerusalem, asking:
Cuando nació Jesús en Belén de Judea en días del rey Herodes, unos magos del oriente llegaron a Jerusalén
2 “Where is the new-born King of the Jews? for we saw his star in the east, and have come to do homage to him.”
y preguntaron: ¿Dónde está el Rey de los judíos que nació? Porque vimos su estrella en el oriente y vinimos a adorarlo.
3 When King Herod heard of this, he was much troubled, and so, too, was all Jerusalem.
Pero cuando el rey Herodes oyó [esto] se turbó, y también toda Jerusalén.
4 He called together all the Chief Priests and Teachers of the Law in the nation, and questioned them as to where the Christ was to be born.
Convocó a los principales sacerdotes y escribas del pueblo, y les preguntaba dónde iba a nacer el Cristo.
5 “At Bethlehem in Judea,” was their answer; “for it is said in the Prophet —
Y ellos le respondieron: En Belén de Judea, porque así está escrito por el profeta:
6 ‘And thou, Bethlehem in Judah’s land, art in no way least among the chief cities of Judah; for out of thee will come a Chieftain — one who will shepherd my people Israel.’”
Y tú, Belén, tierra de Judá, de ningún modo eres la más pequeña entre los líderes de Judá, porque de ti saldrá un Caudillo que apacentará a mi pueblo Israel.
7 Then Herod secretly sent for the Astrologers, and ascertained from them the date of the appearance of the star;
Entonces Herodes llamó en secreto a los magos y les indagó diligentemente cuándo apareció la estrella.
8 and, sending them to Bethlehem, he said: “Go and make careful inquiries about the child, and, as soon as you have found him, bring me word, that I, too, may go and do homage to him.”
Los envió a Belén y [les] dijo: Vayan, infórmense diligentemente con respecto al Niño, y tan pronto como lo encuentren, avísenme para que yo también vaya y lo adore.
9 The Astrologers heard what the King had to say, and then continued their journey. And the star which they had seen in the east led them on, until it reached, and stood over, the place where the child was.
Oyeron al rey y salieron. Descubrieron que la estrella que habían visto en el oriente iba delante de ellos y se detuvo donde estaba el Niño.
10 At the sight of the star they were filled with joy.
Cuando vieron la estrella se regocijaron muchísimo.
11 Entering the house, they saw the child with his mother, Mary, and fell at his feet and did homage to him. Then they unpacked their treasures, and offered to the child presents of gold, frankincense, and myrrh.
Al entrar en la casa, vieron al Niño con su madre María, se postraron y lo adoraron. Abrieron sus tesoros y le ofrecieron regalos: oro, incienso y mirra.
12 But afterwards, having been warned in a dream not to go back to Herod, they returned to their own country by another road.
Se les advirtió en un sueño que no volvieran a Herodes y regresaron a su tierra por otro camino.
13 After they had left, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream, and said: “Awake, take the child and his mother, and seek refuge in Egypt; and stay there until I bid you return, for Herod is about to search for the child, to put him to death.”
Cuando ellos regresaron, un ángel del Señor apareció súbitamente en un sueño a José y le dijo: Levántate, toma al Niño y a su madre y huye a Egipto. Permanece allá hasta que yo te diga, porque Herodes buscará al Niño para matarlo.
14 Joseph awoke, and taking the child and his mother by night, went into Egypt,
Y él se levantó de noche, tomó al Niño y a su madre y se fue a Egipto.
15 and there he stayed until Herod’s death; in fulfilment of these words of the Lord in the Prophet, where he says — ‘Out of Egypt I called my Son.’
Permaneció allá hasta la muerte de Herodes, para que se cumpliera lo dicho por el Señor, por medio del profeta: De Egipto llamé a mi Hijo.
16 When Herod found that he had been trifled with by the Astrologers, he was very angry. He sent and put to death all the boys in Bethlehem and the whole of that neighbourhood, who were two years old or under, guided by the date which he had ascertained from the Astrologers.
Herodes, al ver que los magos se burlaron de él, se enfureció muchísimo. Envió soldados a matar a todos los niños menores de dos años en Belén y sus alrededores, según el tiempo que indagó de los magos.
17 Then were fulfilled these words spoken in the Prophet Jeremiah, where he says —
Entonces se cumplió lo dicho por el profeta Jeremías:
18 ‘A voice was heard in Ramah, weeping and much lamentation; Rachel, weeping for her children, refused all comfort because they were not.’
Una voz fue oída en Ramá, llanto y gran lamentación: Raquel que llora por sus hijos, y no quería ser consolada, porque ya no existen.
19 But, on the death of Herod, an angel of the Lord appeared in a dream to Joseph in Egypt, and said:
Pero después de la muerte de Herodes, súbitamente un ángel del Señor apareció en un sueño a José en Egipto
20 “Awake, take the child and his mother, and go into the Land of Israel, for those who sought to take the child’s life are dead.”
y le dijo: Levántate, toma al Niño y a su madre, y vé a tierra de Israel, porque murieron los que buscaban la vida del Niño.
21 And he awoke, and taking the child and his mother, went into the Land of Israel.
Se levantó, tomó al Niño y a su madre, y entró en tierra de Israel.
22 But, hearing that Archelaus had succeeded his father Herod as King of Judea, he was afraid to go back there; and having been warned in a dream, he went into the part of the country called Galilee.
Pero cuando oyó que Arquelao reinaba en Judea en lugar de su padre Herodes, tuvo temor de ir allá. Se le reveló en un sueño que se retirara a la región de Galilea.
23 And there he settled in the town of Nazareth, in fulfilment of these words in the Prophets — ‘He will be called a Nazarene.’
Al llegar allí, se estableció en la ciudad de Nazaret, para que se cumpliera lo dicho por los profetas: Será llamado Nazareno.
