John 5
1 Sometime after this there was a Jewish Festival; and Jesus went up to Jerusalem.
Danach war ein Fest der Juden, und Jesus zog hinauf nach Jerusalem.
2 There is in Jerusalem, near the Sheep-gate, a Bath with five colonnades round it. It is called in Hebrew ‘Bethesda.’
Es ist aber in Jerusalem beim Schaftor ein Teich, auf Hebräisch mit Zunamen Bethesda, der fünf Hallen hatte.
3 In these colonnades a large number of afflicted people were lying — blind, lame, and crippled.
In diesen lag danieder eine große Menge Kranker, Blinder, Lahme, Abgezehrter; die warteten auf die Bewegung des Wassers.
Denn zur bestimmten Zeit stieg ein Engel hinab in den Teich und bewegte das Wasser. Der erste nun, der nach der Bewegung des Wassers hineinstieg, ward gesund, mit welcherlei Krankheit er auch behaftet war.
5 One man who was there had been afflicted for thirty-eight years.
Es war aber ein Mensch daselbst, der achtunddreißig Jahre ein Gebrechen hatte.
6 Jesus saw the man lying there, and, finding that he had been in this state a long time, said to him: “Do you wish to be cured?”
Da Jesus diesen daniederliegen sah, und erkannte, daß er schon viele Zeit so war, spricht Er zu ihm: Willst du gesund werden?
7 “I have no one, Sir,” the afflicted man answered, “to put me into the Bath when there is a troubling of the water, and, while I am getting to it, some one else steps down before me.”
Der Kranke antwortete Ihm: Herr, ich habe keinen Menschen, der mich, wenn das Wasser bewegt wird, in den Teich brächte, und bis ich komme, steigt ein anderer vor mir hinab.
8 “Stand up,” said Jesus, “take up your mat, and walk about.”
Jesus spricht zu ihm: Stehe auf, nimm dein Bett auf und wandle.
9 The man was cured immediately, and took up his mat and began to walk about.
Und alsbald ward der Mensch gesund, und hob sein Bett auf und wandelte. Es war aber Sabbath an selbigen Tage.
10 Now it was the Sabbath. So the Jews said to the man who had been cured: “This is the Sabbath; you must not carry your mat.”
Da sagten die Juden zu dem Geheilten: Es ist Sabbath, es ist dir nicht erlaubt, das Bett zu tragen.
11 “The man who cured me,” he answered, “said to me ‘Take up your mat and walk about.’”
Er antwortete ihnen: Der mich gesund machte, Selbiger sprach zu mir: Nimm dein Bett und wandle.
12 “Who was it,” they asked, “that said to you ‘Take up your mat and walk about’?”
Da fragten sie ihn: Wer ist der Mensch, der zu dir sagte: Nimm dein Bett auf und wandle?
13 But the man who had been restored did not know who it was; for Jesus had moved away, because there was a crowd there.
Der gesund Gewordene aber wußte nicht, wer es wäre; denn Jesus hatte Sich wegbegeben, weil ein Gedränge an dem Ort war.
14 Afterwards Jesus found the man in the Temple Courts, and said to him: “You are cured now; do not sin again, for fear that something worse may befall you.”
Danach fand ihn Jesus in dem Heiligtum und sprach zu ihm: Siehe, du bist gesund geworden! Sündige nicht mehr, damit dir nichts Schlimmeres geschehe.
15 The man went away, and told the Jews that it was Jesus who had cured him.
Der Mensch ging hin und sagte den Juden an, daß Jesus es wäre, Der ihn gesund gemacht habe.
16 And that was why the Jews began to persecute Jesus — because he did things of this kind on the Sabbath.
Und darum verfolgten die Juden Jesus und suchten Ihn zu töten, daß Er dies am Sabbath getan hatte.
17 But Jesus replied: “My Father works to this very hour, and I work also.”
Jesus aber antwortete ihnen: Mein Vater wirkt bis jetzt, und Ich wirke auch.
18 This made the Jews all the more eager to kill him, because not only was he doing away with the Sabbath, but he actually called God his own Father — putting himself on an equality with God.
Darum nun trachteten die Juden noch mehr, Ihn zu töten, daß Er nicht allein den Sabbath brach, sondern auch Gott Seinen eigenen Vater nannte und Sich Gott gleich machte.
19 So Jesus made this further reply: “In truth I tell you, the Son can do nothing of himself; he does only what he sees the Father doing; whatever the Father does, the Son does also.
Da antwortete Jesus und sprach zu ihnen: Wahrlich, wahrlich, Ich sage euch: Der Sohn kann nichts von Ihm Selber tun, als was Er sieht den Vater tun; denn was Derselbige tut, das tut desgleichen auch der Sohn.
20 For the Father loves his Son, and shows him everything that he is doing; and he will show him still greater things — so that you will be filled with wonder.
Denn der Vater hat den Sohn lieb und zeigt Ihm alles, was Er tut, und wird Ihm größere Werke denn diese zeigen, daß ihr euch verwundern werdet.
21 For, just as the Father raises the dead and gives them Life, so also the Son gives Life to whom he pleases.
Denn wie der Vater die Toten auferweckt und sie lebendig macht, also macht auch der Sohn lebendig, wen Er will;
22 The Father himself does not judge any man, but has ‘entrusted the work of judging entirely to his Son,’
Denn der Vater richtet niemand, sondern hat alles Gericht dem Sohne gegeben.
23 So that all men may honour the Son, just as they honour the Father. He who does not honour the Son fails to honour the Father who sent him.
Auf daß alle den Sohn ehren, wie sie den Vater ehren. Wer den Sohn nicht ehrt, der ehrt den Vater nicht, Der Ihn gesandt hat.
24 In truth I tell you that he who listens to my Message and believes him who sent me, has Immortal Life, and does not come under condemnation, but has already passed out of Death into Life. (aiōnios g166)
Wahrlich, wahrlich, Ich sage euch: Wer Mein Wort hört und glaubt an Den, Der Mich gesandt hat, der hat ewiges Leben und kommt nicht ins Gericht, sondern ist vom Tode zum Leben übergegangen. (aiōnios g166)
25 In truth I tell you that a time is coming, indeed it is already here, when the Dead will listen to the voice of the Son of God, and when those who listen will live.
Wahrlich, wahrlich, Ich sage euch: Es kommt die Stunde und ist jetzt, daß die Toten die Stimme des Sohnes Gottes hören, und die, so sie hören werden, leben.
26 For, just as the Father has inherent Life within him, so also he has granted to the Son to have inherent Life within him;
Denn wie der Vater Leben hat in Sich Selbst, so hat Er auch dem Sohne gegeben, Leben in Ihm Selbst zu haben.
27 and, because he is Son of Man, he has also given him authority to act as judge.
Und hat Ihm Gewalt gegeben, auch Gericht zu halten, weil Er des Menschen Sohn ist.
28 Do not wonder at this; for the time is coming when all who are in their graves will hear his voice,
Verwundert euch dessen nicht; denn es kommt die Stunde, in der alle, so in den Gräbern sind, Seine Stimme hören werden.
29 and will come out — those who have done good rising to Life, and those who have lived evil lives rising for condemnation.
Und werden hervorgehen, die da Gutes getan haben, in die Auferstehung des Lebens, die aber Arges getan haben, in die Auferstehung des Gerichts.
30 I can do nothing of myself; I judge as I am taught; and the judgment that I give is just, because my aim is not to do my own will, but the will of him who sent me.
Ich kann nichts von Mir Selber tun; wie Ich höre, so richte Ich, und Mein Gericht ist gerecht; weil Ich nicht suche Meinen Willen, sondern den Willen Dessen, Der Mich gesandt hat.
31 If I bear testimony to myself, my testimony is not trustworthy;
Wenn Ich von Mir Selber zeuge, so ist Mein Zeugnis nicht wahr.
32 it is another who bears testimony to me, and I know that the testimony which he bears to me is trustworthy.
Ein Anderer ist es, Der von Mir zeugt, und Ich weiß, daß das Zeugnis, das Er von Mir zeugt, wahr ist.
33 You have yourselves sent to John, and he as testified to the Truth.
Ihr habt an Johannes gesandt, und er hat für die Wahrheit gezeugt.
34 But the testimony which I receive is not from man; I am saying this for your Salvation.
Ich aber nehme kein Zeugnis von einem Menschen, sondern spreche solches, auf daß ihr gerettet werdet.
35 He was the ‘Lamp that was burning’ and shining, and you were ready to rejoice, for a time, in his light.
Selbiger war die brennende und scheinende Leuchte, ihr aber wolltet zur Stunde in seinem Lichte frohlocken!
36 But the testimony which I have is of greater weight than John’s; for the work that the Father has given me to carry out — the work that I am doing — is in itself proof that the Father has sent me as his Messenger.
Ich aber habe ein größeres Zeugnis, denn das des Johannes; denn die Werke, die Mir der Vater zu vollbringen gegeben hat, dieselben Werke, die Ich tue, zeugen von Mir, daß der Vater Mich entsendet hat.
37 The Father who has sent me has himself borne testimony to me. You have neither listened to his voice, not seen his form;
Und der Vater Selbst, Der Mich gesandt hat, hat von Mir gezeugt; ihr habt nie weder Seine Stimme gehört, noch Seine Gestalt gesehen,
38 and you have not taken his Message home to your hearts, because you do not believe him whom he sent as his Messenger.
Und Sein Wort habt ihr nicht in euch bleibend, weil ihr an Ihn, Den Er entsandt hat, nicht glaubt.
39 You search the Scriptures, because you think that you find in them Immortal Life; and, though it is those very Scriptures that bear testimony to me, (aiōnios g166)
Forschet in den Schriften, denn ihr meint in ihnen das ewige Leben zu haben; und dieselbigen sind es, die von Mir zeugen. (aiōnios g166)
40 you refuse to come to me to have life.
Und ihr wollet nicht zu Mir kommen, auf daß ihr Leben habet.
41 I do not receive honour from men,
Ich nehme nicht Ehre von Menschen.
42 but I know this of you, that you have not the love of God in your hearts.
Euch aber erkenne Ich, daß ihr die Liebe Gottes nicht in euch habt.
43 I have come in my Father’s name, and you do not receive me; if another comes in his own name, you will receive him.
Ich bin in Namen Meines Vaters gekommen, und ihr nehmt Mich nicht an. So ein anderer in seinem eigenen Namen kommt, den werdet ihr annehmen.
44 How can you believe in me, when you receive honour from one another and do not desire the honour which comes from the only God?
Wie könnt ihr glauben, die ihre Ehre voneinander annehmt, und die Ehre von dem alleinigen Gott nicht sucht?
45 Do not think that I shall accuse you to the Father; your accuser is Moses, on whom you have been resting your hopes.
Ihr sollt nicht meinen, daß Ich euch bei dem Vater anklagen werde; es ist einer, der euch anklagt, Moses, auf den ihr gehofft habt.
46 For, had you believed Moses, you would have believed me, for it was of me that Moses wrote;
Denn wenn ihr Moses glaubtet, so glaubtet ihr wohl Mir; denn von Mir hat derselbige geschrieben.
47 but, if you do not believe his writings, how will you believe my teaching?”
Wenn ihr aber seinen Schriften nicht glaubt, wie werdet ihr Meinen Reden glauben?
