1 Thessalonians 5
1 But as to the times and the moments, there is no need, Brothers, for any one to write to you.
Men om tider och stunder, käre bröder, är icke behof att skrifva eder.
2 You yourselves know well that the Day of the Lord will come just as a thief comes in the night.
Ty I veten väl, att Herrans dag skall komma såsom en tjuf om nattena.
3 When people are saying ‘All is quiet and safe,’ it is then that, like birth-pains upon a woman with child, Ruin comes suddenly upon them, and there will be no escape!
Derföre, när de varda sägande: Det är frid, och all ting utan fara; då skall dem hasteligit förderf öfverkomma, lika som födslopinan qvinnone påkommer, som hafvandes är; och de skola icke kunna undfly.
4 You, however, Brothers, are not in darkness, that the daylight should take you by surprise as if you were thieves.
Men I, käre bröder, ären icke uti mörkret, att den dagen, såsom en tjuf, skall få eder fatt.
5 For you all are ‘Sons of Light’ and ‘Sons of the Day.’ We have nothing to do with night, or darkness.
Alle I ären ljusens barn, och dagsens barn; vi hörom icke nattene till, icke heller mörkret.
6 Therefore let us not sleep as others do. No, let us be watchful and self-controlled.
Så låter oss nu icke sofva, såsom de andre; utan låter oss vaka och nyktre vara;
7 It is at night that men sleep, and at night that drunkards get drunk.
Ty de som sofva, de sofva om nattena; och de som druckne äro, de äro druckne om nattena.
8 But let us, who belong to the Day, control ourselves, and put on faith and love as a breast plate, and the hope of Salvation as a helmet.
Men vi, som dagen tillhöre, skole nyktre vara, iklädde trones och kärlekens kräfveto, och salighetenes hopp för en hjelm.
9 For God destined us, not for Wrath, but to win Salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ, who died for us,
Ty Gud hafver icke satt oss till vrede, utan att äga salighet, genom vår Herra Jesum Christum;
10 that, whether we are still watching or have fallen asleep, we may live with him.
Den för oss död är; på det, ehvad vi vake eller sofve, skole vi lefva samt med honom.
11 Therefore encourage one another, and try to build up one another’s characters, as indeed you are doing.
Derföre förmaner eder inbördes, och uppbygger hvar den andra, såsom I ock gören.
12 We beg you, Brothers, to value those who toil among you, and are your leaders in the Lord’s service, and give you counsel.
Men vi bedje eder, käre bröder, att I kännen dem som arbeta ibland eder, och stå eder före i Herranom, och förmana eder;
13 Hold them in the very greatest esteem and affection for the sake of their work. Live at peace with one another.
Håller dem dess kärare, för deras verks skull; och varer fridsamme med dem.
14 We entreat you also, Brothers — warn the disorderly, comfort the faint-hearted, give a helping hand to the weak, and be patient with every one.
Men vi bedje eder, käre bröder, förmaner de osediga, tröster de klenmodiga, hjelper de svaga, varer långmodige vid hvar man.
15 Take care that none of you ever pays back wrong for wrong, but always follow the kindest course with one another and with every one.
Ser till, att ingen vedergäller någrom ondt för ondt; utan alltid farer efter det goda inbördes, och med hvar man.
16 Always be joyful;
Varer alltid glade.
17 never cease to pray;
Bedjer utan återvändo.
18 under all circumstances give thanks to God. For this is his will for you as made known in Christ Jesus.
Varer tacksamme i all ting; ty det är Guds vilje om eder, genom Jesum Christum.
19 Do not quench the Spirit;
Utsläcker icke Andan.
20 do not make light of preaching.
Förakter icke Prophetier.
21 Bring everything to the test; cling to what is good;
Men pröfver all ting, och behåller det godt är.
22 shun every form of evil.
Flyr allt det som ondt synes.
23 May God himself, the giver of peace, make you altogether holy; and may your spirits, souls, and bodies be kept altogether faultless until the Coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Men sjelfver fridsens Gud helge eder öfver allt, att edar hele ande, och själ, och kropp, måtte vara behållen utan straff, i vårs Herras Jesu Christi tillkommelse.
24 He who calls you will not fail you; he will complete his work.
Han är trofast, som eder kallat hafver; den det ock väl fullbordar.
25 Brothers, pray for us.
Käre bröder, beder för oss.
26 Greet all the Brothers with a sacred kiss.
Helser alla bröderna uti en helig kyss.
27 I adjure you in the Lord’s name to have this letter read to all the Brethren.

28 May the blessing of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you.
