1 Peter 4
1 Since, then, Christ suffered in body, arm yourselves with the same resolve as he; for he who has suffered in body has ceased to sin,
Puesto que Cristo padeció por nosotros en el cuerpo, ustedes también ármense con el mismo pensamiento. Porque el que padeció en el cuerpo se apartó del pecado
2 and so will live the rest of his earthly life guided, not by human passions, but by the will of God.
para no vivir el tiempo que le queda en el cuerpo en pasiones humanas, sino en la voluntad de Dios.
3 Surely in the past you have spent time enough living as the Gentiles delight to live. For your path has lain among scenes of debauchery, licentiousness, drunkenness, revelry, hard-drinking, and profane idolatry.
Fue suficiente el tiempo pasado para hacer la voluntad de los gentiles, cuando nos movíamos en los deleites carnales, deseos apasionados, borracheras, orgías, exceso de bebidas y repugnantes idolatrías.
4 And, because you do not run to the same extremes of profligacy as others, they are astonished, and malign you.
Los que hablan mal de ustedes se asombran de que no corren con ellos en la misma corriente de relajamiento moral,
5 But they will have to answer for their conduct to him who is ready to judge both the living and the dead.
los cuales darán cuenta al que está preparado para juzgar a los vivos y a [los] muertos.
6 For that was why the Good News was told to the dead also — that, after they have been judged in the body, as men are judged, they might live in the spirit, as God lives.
Las Buenas Noticias también fueron proclamadas a [los] que murieron, a fin de que sean juzgados en [el ]cuerpo según [los ]hombres, pero que vivan en espíritu según Dios.
7 But the end of all things is near. Therefore exercise self-restraint and be calm, that you may be able to pray.
Pero el fin de todas las cosas está cerca. Sean, pues, serios y sobrios en las conversaciones con Dios,
8 Above all things, let your love for one another be earnest, for ‘Love throws a veil over countless sins.’
y tengan ante todo el amor constante entre ustedes, porque [el] amor cubre una multitud de pecados.
9 Never grudge hospitality to one another.
Sean hospitalarios los unos con los otros, sin murmuración.
10 Whatever the gift that each has received, use it in the service of others, as good stewards of the varied bounty of God.
Cada uno ministre a los otros según el don que recibió como buenos administradores de [la] multiforme gracia de Dios.
11 When any one speaks, let him speak as one who is delivering the oracles of God. When any one is endeavouring to serve others, let him do so in reliance on the strength which God supplies; so that in everything God may be honour ed through Jesus Christ — to whom be ascribed all honour and might for ever and ever. Amen. (aiōn g165)
Si alguno habla, hable según las Palabras de Dios. Si alguno ministra, [hágalo] según el poder que Dios suministra para que en todo Dios sea glorificado por medio de Jesucristo, a Quien pertenecen la gloria y la soberanía por los siglos de los siglos. Amén. (aiōn g165)
12 Dear friends, do not be astonished at the fiery trials that you are passing through, to test you, as though something strange were happening to you.
Amados, no se sorprendan por el fuego que se presenta para prueba, como si algo extraño les aconteciera.
13 No, the more you share the sufferings of the Christ, the more may you rejoice, that, when the time comes for the manifestation of his Glory, you may rejoice and exult.
Sino regocíjense por cuanto participan de los padecimientos de Cristo, para que también en la manifestación de su gloria se regocijen en gran manera.
14 If you are reviled for bearing the name of Christ, count yourselves blessed; because the divine Glory and the Spirit of God are resting upon you.
Si sufren reproches por [el] Nombre de Cristo son inmensamente felices, porque el exaltado Espíritu de Dios y de la gloria reposa sobre ustedes.
15 I need hardly say that no one among you must suffer as a murderer, or a thief, or a criminal, or for interfering in matters which do not concern Christians.
Ninguno de ustedes padezca como homicida, ladrón, malhechor o por meterse en lo ajeno.
16 But, if a man suffers as a Christian, do not let him be ashamed of it; let him bring honour to God even though he bears that name.
Pero si alguno [padece] por ser cristiano, no se avergüence, sino glorifique a Dios por este nombre.
17 For the time has come for judgment to begin with the House of God; and, if it begins with us, what will be the end of those who reject God’s Good News?
Porque es tiempo de que comience el juicio en la casa de Dios. Si comienza por nosotros, ¿cuál será el fin de los que desobedecen las Buenas Noticias de Dios?
18 If ‘a good man is saved only with difficulty, what will become of the godless and the sinful?’
Y: Si el justo se salva con dificultad, ¿Dónde se hallará el impío y el pecador?
19 Therefore, I say, let those who suffer, because God wills it so, commit their lives into the hands of a faithful Creator, and persevere in doing right.
Por tanto los que padecen según la voluntad de Dios, encomienden sus almas al fiel Creador y hagan lo bueno.
