Psalms 140
1 Yahweh, rescue/save me from [being attacked by] evil men; and [even more], (keep me safe/protect me) from being attacked by violent people.
Ki te tino kaiwhakatangi. He himene na Rawiri. Whakaorangia ahau, e Ihowa, i te tangata kino: araia atu i ahau te tangata tutu:
2 They are always planning to do evil things and they are always inciting/urging people to start quarrels.
E whakaaro kino nei i o ratou ngakau: e whakamine nei i a ratou i nga wa katoa ki te whawhai.
3 By what they say [MTY] [they injure people like] poisonous snakes do; the words that they speak [MTY] [can kill people as easily as] cobras/vipers do.
Kua whakakoia to ratou arero, ano he nakahi: kei raro i o ratou ngutu te wai whakamate o te neke. (Hera)
4 Yahweh, protect me from the power [MTY] of wicked [people]. Keep me safe from violent men who plan to destroy me [SYN].
Tiakina ahau, e Ihowa, i nga ringa o te hunga kino: araia atu i ahau te tangata tutu, kua mea nei kia tutea oku hikoinga.
5 [It is as though] proud people have set a trap for me; [it is as though] they have spread their nets to catch me; [it is as though] they have put those things along the road to catch/seize me.
Kua huna e te hunga whakakake te mahanga moku, me nga aho; kua horahia e ratou he kupenga ki te taha o te ara: kua whakapikoa e ratou he rore moku. (Hera)
6 I say to you, “Yahweh, you are my God;” [so] listen to me while I cry out to you to help me.
I mea ahau ki a Ihowa, Ko koe toku Atua: whakarongo, e Ihowa, ki toku reo inoi.
7 Yahweh, my Lord, you are the one who defends me strongly; you have [protected me] during battles [MET] [as though you had put a helmet on] my head.
E Ihowa, e te Ariki, e te kaha o toku whakaoranga, nau i hipoki toku upoko i te ra o te tatauranga.
8 Yahweh, do allow wicked [people] to do the things that they desire, and do not allow them to do the [evil things that] they plan to do.
Aua e whakaaetia, e Ihowa, nga hiahia o te tangata kino: kei taea tona whakaaro koroke; kei whakakake ratou. (Hera)
9 [Do not allow] my enemies to (become proud/defeat me); cause the evil things that they say [MTY] they will do to me to happen to them, [instead].
Tena ko te upoko o te hunga e whakapae nei i ahau, kia hipokina ratou e te kino o o ratou ngutu.
10 Cause burning coals to fall on their [heads]! Cause them to be thrown into deep pits, from which they cannot climb out!
Kia taka he waro mura ki runga ki a ratou: kia panga ratou ki te ahi, ki roto ki nga poka hohonu, kei whakatika ake ano ratou.
11 Do not allow those who slander others to succeed; cause evil things to happen to violent men and destroy them!
E kore te tangata korero kino e whakapumautia ki runga ki te whenua: ma te kino e aruaru te tangata tutu, kia turakina atu ia ki raro.
12 Yahweh, I know that you defend those who are oppressed, and that you do what is just/fair for those who are needy/poor.
E matau ana ano ahau ma Ihowa e tohe te whakawa a te tangata e tukinotia ana, te mea hoki e rite ana ma nga rawakore.
13 Righteous [people] will surely thank you [MTY], and they will live (in your presence/with you).
He pono ka whakawhetai te hunga pai ki tou ingoa: ka noho te hunga tika ki tou aroaro.
