Numbers 14
1 That night, all the Israeli people cried loudly.
Entonces todo el pueblo dio gritos de dolor, y toda esa noche se entregaron a llorar.
2 The next day they all complained to Aaron and Moses/me. All the men said, “We wish that we had died in Egypt, or in this desert!
Y todos los hijos de Israel, clamando contra Moisés y Aarón, dijeron: ¡Si tan solo hubiésemos muerto en la tierra de Egipto, o incluso en este desierto!
3 Why is Yahweh bringing us to this land, where we men will be killed with swords? And our wives and children will be taken away [to be slaves]. [Instead of going to Canaan]. It would be better for us to return to Egypt!”
¿Por qué el Señor nos está llevando a esta tierra para morir por la espada? Nuestras esposas y nuestros pequeños se pondrán en manos extrañas: ¿no sería mejor para nosotros regresar a Egipto?
4 Then [some of] them said to each other, “We should choose a leader who will take us back to Egypt!”
Y se dijeron unos a otros: Hagamos un capitán sobre nosotros, y volvamos a Egipto.
5 Then Aaron and Moses/I bowed down [to pray] in front of all the Israeli people who had gathered there.
Entonces Moisés y Aarón se postraron sobre sus rostros ante la congregación de reunión del pueblo.
6 Joshua and Caleb, two of the men who had explored the land, tore their clothes [because they were very dismayed].
Y Josué, hijo de Nun, y Caleb, hijo de Jefone, dos de los que habían estado para explorar la tierra, se rasgaron la ropa,
7 They said to the Israeli people, “The land that we explored is very good.
Dijo a todos los hijos de Israel: Esta tierra que fuimos a explorar es una tierra muy buena.
8 If Yahweh is pleased with us, he will lead us into that very fertile [IDM] land, and he will give it to us.
Y si el Señor se complace en nosotros, nos llevará a esta tierra y nos la dará, una tierra que fluye leche y miel.
9 So do not rebel against Yahweh! And do not be afraid of the people in that land! We will (gobble them up/completely destroy them) [MET]! They do not have anyone who will protect them, but Yahweh will be with us [and help us]. So do not be afraid of them!”
Solamente, no vayas contra el Señor ni vayan con miedo a la gente de esa tierra, porque serán nuestra comida; se les ha quitado su protección, el Señor está con nosotros: no tengan miedo de ellos.
10 Then all the Israeli people talked about [killing Caleb and Joshua by] throwing stones at them. But [suddenly] Yahweh’s glory appeared to them at the Sacred Tent.
Pero todas las personas dijeron que debían ser apedreados. Entonces se vio la gloria del Señor en la tienda de reunión, ante los ojos de todos los hijos de Israel.
11 Then Yahweh said to Moses/me, “How long will these people reject me [RHQ]? I am tired of them not believing in what I [can do], in spite of all the miracles I have performed among them [RHQ]!
Y él Señor dijo a Moisés: ¿Hasta cuándo esta gente no tendrá respeto por mí? ¿Cuánto tiempo estarán sin creer, ante todas las señales que he hecho entre ellos?
12 So I will cause a (plague/widespread sickness) to strike them and get rid of them. But I will cause your [descendants] to become a great nation. They will be a nation that is much greater and stronger than these people are.”
Les enviaré enfermedades por su destrucción y les quitaré su herencia, y haré de ti una nación más grande y más fuerte que ellos.
13 But Moses/I replied to Yahweh, “[Please do not do that, because] the people of Egypt will hear about it! You brought these Israeli people from Egypt by your great power,
Entonces Moisés dijo al Señor: Y llegará a oídos de los egipcios porque por tu poder sacaste a este pueblo de entre ellos;
14 and the people of Egypt will tell that to the [descendants of Canaan] who live in this land. Yahweh, they have already heard about you. They know that you have (been with/helped) these people and that they have seen you face-to-face. They have heard that your cloud is like a huge pillar that stays over them, and by using that cloud you lead them during the day, and the cloud becomes like a fire at night [to give them light].
Y darán la noticia a la gente de esta tierra: han tenido la noticia de que tú, Señor, estás presente con esta gente, dejándose ver cara a cara, y que su nube descansa sobre ellos, y que vas delante de ellos en una columna de nube durante el día y en una columna de fuego durante la noche.
15 If you kill these people all at one time, the people-groups who have heard about your [power] will say,
Ahora, si matas a todo este pueblo como un solo hombre, entonces las naciones que han tenido palabra de tu gloria dirán:
16 ‘Yahweh was not able to bring them into the land that he promised to give to them, so he killed them in the desert.’
Debido a que el Señor no pudo llevar a este pueblo a la tierra que él hizo un juramento de darles, envió destrucción sobre ellos en el desierto.
17 “So Yahweh, now show that you are very powerful. You said,
Ahora, que mi oración venga ante ti, y que el poder del Señor sea grande, como dijiste:
18 ‘I do not quickly become angry; instead, I love people very much, and I forgive people for having sinned and having disobeyed my laws. But I will always punish [LIT] people who are guilty of doing what is wrong. When parents sin, I will punish them, but I will also punish their children and their grandchildren and their great-grandchildren and their great-great-grandchildren.’
El Señor es lento para la ira y grande en la misericordia, pasando por alto el pecado y rebelión, y no permitirá que los malvados salgan libres; Enviará castigo a los hijos por los pecados de sus padres, a la tercera y cuarta generación.
19 So, because you love people like that, forgive these people for the sins that they have committed, just like you have continued to forgive them ever since they left Egypt.”
Que el pecado de este pueblo tenga perdón, en la medida de tu gran misericordia, como lo has tenido desde Egipto hasta ahora.
20 Then Yahweh replied, “I have forgiven them, as you requested me to.
Y el Señor dijo: He tenido misericordia, como tú dices:
21 But, just as certainly as I live and that people all over the world [can see] my (glory/glorious power), [I solemnly declare this: ]
Pero en verdad, como estoy viviendo, y como toda la tierra estará llena de la gloria del Señor;
22 All these people saw my glory and all the miracles that I performed in Egypt and in the desert, but they disobeyed me, and many times they tested [whether they could continue to do evil things without my punishing them].
Porque todos estos hombres, habiendo visto mi gloria y las señales que he hecho en Egipto y en el desierto, todavía me han puesto a prueba diez veces, y no han escuchado mi voz;
23 Because of that, not one of them will see the land that I promised their ancestors [that I would give to them]. No one who rejected me will see that land.
No verán la tierra sobre la cual juré a sus padres; ninguno de estos por quienes no he sido honrado la verá.
24 But Caleb, who serves me [well], is different from the others. He obeys me completely. So I will bring him into that land that he has already seen, and his descendants will inherit/possess some of it.
Pero mi siervo Caleb, porque tenía un espíritu diferente en él, y me ha sido fiel con todo su corazón, lo llevaré a esa tierra en la que él entró, y su simiente la tendrá por su herencia.
25 So, since the descendants of Amalek and Canaan who are living in the valleys [in Canaan are very strong], when you leave here tomorrow, [instead of traveling toward Canaan], go back along the road through the desert towards the Red Sea.”
Ahora, los amalecitas y los cananeos están en el valle; Mañana, dando la vuelta, vaya al desierto por el camino hacia el Mar Rojo.
26 Then Yahweh said to Aaron and Moses/me,
Entonces el SEÑOR dijo a Moisés y a Aarón:
27 “How long will the wicked people of this nation keep complaining about me [RHQ]? I have heard everything that they have grumbled/complained against me.
¿Cuánto tiempo tengo para soportar a esta gente malvada y sus clamores contra mí? Las palabras que dicen contra mí han llegado a mis oídos.
28 So now tell them this: ‘Just as certainly as I, Yahweh, live, I will do exactly what you said would happen.
Diles a ellos: Por mi vida, dice el Señor, tan ciertamente como tus palabras han llegado a mis oídos, así que ciertamente te haré esto:
29 [I will cause] all of you to die here in this desert! Because you grumbled about me, none of you who are more than 20 years old and who were counted when Moses counted everyone
Tus cadáveres serán tendidos en esta tierra desierta; y de todos ustedes, todos los de veinte años o más que han estado clamando contra mí,
30 will enter the land that I solemnly promised to give to you. Only Caleb and Joshua will enter that land.
Nadie vendrá a la tierra que te di mi palabra para que descansaras, sino sólo Caleb, el hijo de Jefone, y Josué, el hijo de Nun.
31 You said that your children would be taken from you [to become slaves], but I will take them into the land, and they will enjoy living in the land that you (rejected/said that you could not conquer).
Y sus pequeños, a los que dijeron que caerían en extrañas manos, los recibiré, y verán la tierra que ustedes no tendrían.
32 But as for you [adults], you will die here in this desert.
Pero en cuanto a ti, tus cadáveres quedaran tirados en este desierto.
33 And like shepherds [wander around in the desert as they take care of their sheep], your children will wander around in this desert for 40 years. Because you adults were not loyal/faithful to me, your children will suffer until you all die in the desert.
Y tus hijos serán vagabundos en el desierto durante cuarenta años, sufriendo el castigo por tus caminos falsos, hasta que tus cuerpos se conviertan en polvo en el desierto.
34 You will suffer for your sins for 40 years. That will be one year for each of the 40 days that the twelve men explored Canaan land. And I will be like an enemy to you.’
Y al recorrer la tierra durante cuarenta días, durante cuarenta años, un año por cada día, sufrirán un castigo por su maldad y verán que estoy en contra de ustedes.
35 [This will certainly happen because] I, Yahweh, have said it! I will do these things to every one in this group who conspired against me. They (conspired against/decided together to reject) me here in the desert, and they will all die right here in this desert!”
Yo, el Señor, lo he dicho, y ciertamente haré esto a todas estas personas malvadas que se han unido contra mí: en este desierto vendrá sobre ellos, y la muerte será su destino.
36 Then the ten men [who had explored Canaan and] who had urged the people to rebel against Yahweh by giving reports that discouraged the people
Y los hombres que Moisés envió a ver la tierra, y que por él mal reporte que dieron de la tierra, fueron la causa del clamor que el pueblo hizo contra Moisés.
37 were immediately struck with a plague/disease that Yahweh sent, and they died.
Esos mismos hombres que dijeron mal de la tierra, murieron por enfermedad delante del Señor.
38 Of the twelve men who had explored Canaan, only Joshua and Caleb remained alive.
Pero Josué, el hijo de Nun, y Caleb, el hijo de Jefone, de los que fueron a ver la tierra, no fueron afectados por la enfermedad.
39 When Moses/I reported to the Israeli people what Yahweh had said, many of them were very sad.
Y cuando Moisés puso estas palabras delante de los hijos de Israel, el pueblo se llenó de dolor.
40 So the people got up early the next morning and started to go toward the hilly area in Canaan. They said, “[We know that] we have sinned, but now we [are ready to] enter the land that Yahweh promised to give to us.”
Temprano por la mañana se levantaron y fueron a la cima de la montaña, diciendo: Estamos aquí y subiremos al lugar que el Señor dijo que nos daría, porque hemos hecho mal.
41 But Moses/I said, “Yahweh commanded you [to return to the desert, so] why are you now disobeying him [RHQ]? It will not (succeed/be possible).
Y Moisés dijo: ¿Por qué actúas ahora en contra de la orden del Señor, ya que nada bueno saldrá de esto?
42 Do not try to enter the land now! [If you try], your enemies will defeat you, because Yahweh will not (be with/help) you.
No suban, porque el Señor no está con ustedes, y serán vencidos por aquellos que luchan contra ustedes.
43 When you begin to fight the descendants of Amalek and Canaan, they will slaughter you! Yahweh will abandon you, because you have abandoned him.”
Porque los amalecitas y los cananeos están allí delante de ti, y serás muerto por sus espadas: porque se han negado a seguir el camino del Señor, el Señor no estará con ustedes.
44 But even though Moses/I did not leave the camp, and the sacred chest that contained the Ten Commandments was not taken from the camp, the people began to go towards the hilly area in Canaan.
Pero no prestaron atención a sus palabras y fueron a la cima de la montaña, aunque Moisés y el cofre del pacto del Señor no salieron del campamento de la tienda.
45 Then the descendants of Amalek and Canaan who lived in that hilly area came down and attacked them and chased them as far [south] as [the town of] Hormah.
Luego cayeron los amalecitas, y los cananeos que vivían en el campo de la colina, y los vencieron completamente, llevándolos de regreso hasta Horma.
