< Numbers 14 >

1 That night, all the Israeli people cried loudly.
Dia nanandratra ny feony ny fiangonana rehetra ka nitaraina; ary nitomany ny olona tamin’ iny alina iny.
2 The next day they all complained to Aaron and Moses/me. All the men said, “We wish that we had died in Egypt, or in this desert!
Dia nimonomonona tamin’ i Mosesy sy Arona ny Zanak’ Isiraely rehetra, ka hoy ny fiangonana rehetra taminy; Inay anie isika mba maty tany amin’ ny tany Egypta ihany; na inay anie isika mba maty tatỳ amin’ ity efitra ity!
3 Why is Yahweh bringing us to this land, where we men will be killed with swords? And our wives and children will be taken away [to be slaves]. [Instead of going to Canaan]. It would be better for us to return to Egypt!”
Ary nahoana Jehovah no mitondra antsika ho amin’ ity tany ity ho lavon-tsabatra, ary ny vadintsika sy ny zanatsika madinika ho babo; tsy aleontsika miverina ho any Egypta va?
4 Then [some of] them said to each other, “We should choose a leader who will take us back to Egypt!”
Dia nifampitaona hoe izy: Andeha hifidy mpitarika isika ka hiverina any Egypta.
5 Then Aaron and Moses/I bowed down [to pray] in front of all the Israeli people who had gathered there.
Ary Mosesy sy Arona dia niankohoka teo anatrehan’ ny fivorian’ ny fiangonana, dia ny Zanak’ Isiraely rehetra.
6 Joshua and Caleb, two of the men who had explored the land, tore their clothes [because they were very dismayed].
Ary Josoa, zanak’ i Nona, sy Kaleba, zanak’ i Jefone, izay isan’ ny nisafo ny tany, dia nandriatra ny fitafiany;
7 They said to the Israeli people, “The land that we explored is very good.
ary niteny tamin’ ny fiangonana, dia ny Zanak’ Isiraely rehetra, izy roa lahy ka nanao hoe: Ny tany izay nalehanay nosafoina dia tany tsara indrindra.
8 If Yahweh is pleased with us, he will lead us into that very fertile [IDM] land, and he will give it to us.
Raha sitrak’ i Jehovah isika, dia hitondra antsika ho amin’ izany tany izany Izy, ka homeny antsika, dia tany tondra-dronono sy tantely.
9 So do not rebel against Yahweh! And do not be afraid of the people in that land! We will (gobble them up/completely destroy them) [MET]! They do not have anyone who will protect them, but Yahweh will be with us [and help us]. So do not be afraid of them!”
Fa aza miodina amin’ i Jehovah ianareo, ary aza matahotra ny tompon-tany; fa hanina ho antsika ireo; ny fiarovany efa niala taminy, ary Jehovah momba antsika; koa aza matahotra azy ianareo.
10 Then all the Israeli people talked about [killing Caleb and Joshua by] throwing stones at them. But [suddenly] Yahweh’s glory appeared to them at the Sacred Tent.
Fa hoy ny fiangonana rehetra: Torahy vato izy roa lahy. Kanjo ny voninahitr’ i Jehovah niseho teo amin’ ny trano-lay fihaonana, teo anatrehan’ ny Zanak’ Isiraely rehetra.
11 Then Yahweh said to Moses/me, “How long will these people reject me [RHQ]? I am tired of them not believing in what I [can do], in spite of all the miracles I have performed among them [RHQ]!
Dia hoy Jehovah tamin’ i Mosesy: Mandra-pahoviana no hamotsifotsian’ ity firenena ity Ahy? ary mandra-pahoviana no tsy hinoany Ahy noho ny famantarana rehetra izay nataoko teo aminy?
12 So I will cause a (plague/widespread sickness) to strike them and get rid of them. But I will cause your [descendants] to become a great nation. They will be a nation that is much greater and stronger than these people are.”
Hamely azy amin’ ny areti-mandringana Aho ka hamongotra azy, fa hanao anao ho firenena lehibe sy mahery noho izy kosa.
13 But Moses/I replied to Yahweh, “[Please do not do that, because] the people of Egypt will hear about it! You brought these Israeli people from Egypt by your great power,
Dia hoy Mosesy tamin’ i Jehovah: Dia ho ren’ ny Egyptiana izany; fa ny herinao no nitondranao ity firenena ity nivoaka avy teo aminy,
14 and the people of Egypt will tell that to the [descendants of Canaan] who live in this land. Yahweh, they have already heard about you. They know that you have (been with/helped) these people and that they have seen you face-to-face. They have heard that your cloud is like a huge pillar that stays over them, and by using that cloud you lead them during the day, and the cloud becomes like a fire at night [to give them light].
ary holazainy amin’ ny monina eo amin’ ity tany ity izany; ary efa reny fa Hianao Jehovah no eto amin’ ity firenena ity, ary Hianao Jehovah no hita mifanatrika, ary ny rahonao mijanona eo amboniny, ary Hianao no mitarika azy eo aloha amin’ ny andri-rahona nony andro, ary amin’ ny andri-afo nony alina.
15 If you kill these people all at one time, the people-groups who have heard about your [power] will say,
Fa raha mahafaty ity firenena ity toy ny olona iray Hianao, dia hiteny ny jentilisa, izay nandre ny lazanao, ka hanao hoe:
16 ‘Yahweh was not able to bring them into the land that he promised to give to them, so he killed them in the desert.’
Satria tsy zakan’ i Jehovah ny mitondra iny firenena iny ho any amin’ ny tany izay nianianany taminy homena azy, dia namono azy tany an-efitra Izy.
17 “So Yahweh, now show that you are very powerful. You said,
Ary ankehitriny, aoka hiseho ny halehiben’ ny herin’ ny Tompo, araka ilay teninao hoe:
18 ‘I do not quickly become angry; instead, I love people very much, and I forgive people for having sinned and having disobeyed my laws. But I will always punish [LIT] people who are guilty of doing what is wrong. When parents sin, I will punish them, but I will also punish their children and their grandchildren and their great-grandchildren and their great-great-grandchildren.’
Mahari-po Jehovah sady be famindram-po, mamela heloka sy fahadisoana, kanefa tsy mety manamarina ny meloka, fa mamaly ny heloky ny ray amin’ ny zanaka hatramin’ ny zafiafy sy ny zafindohalika.
19 So, because you love people like that, forgive these people for the sins that they have committed, just like you have continued to forgive them ever since they left Egypt.”
Mifona aminao aho, mamelà ny helok’ ity firenena ity araka ny halehiben’ ny famindram-ponao, sy araka ny namelanao ny helok’ ity firenena ity hatrany Egypta ka mandraka ankehitriny.
20 Then Yahweh replied, “I have forgiven them, as you requested me to.
Dia hoy Jehovah: Efa navelako araka ny teninao izany.
21 But, just as certainly as I live and that people all over the world [can see] my (glory/glorious power), [I solemnly declare this: ]
Kanefa raha velona koa Aho, ka ho feno ny voninahitr’ i Jehovah ny tany rehetra,
22 All these people saw my glory and all the miracles that I performed in Egypt and in the desert, but they disobeyed me, and many times they tested [whether they could continue to do evil things without my punishing them].
ireo lehilahy rehetra ireo, izay nahita ny voninahitro sy ny famantarako izay nataoko tany Egypta sy tany an-efitra, nefa naka fanahy Ahy izao im-polo izao, ka tsy nihaino ny feoko,
23 Because of that, not one of them will see the land that I promised their ancestors [that I would give to them]. No one who rejected me will see that land.
dia tsy hahita mihitsy ny tany izay nianianako tamin’ ny razany homena azy; eny, izay rehetra namotsifotsy Ahy dia samy tsy hahita izany.
24 But Caleb, who serves me [well], is different from the others. He obeys me completely. So I will bring him into that land that he has already seen, and his descendants will inherit/possess some of it.
Fa ny amin’ i Kaleba mpanompoko kosa, satria fanahy hafa no tao aminy, ka tanteraka tamin’ ny fanarahana Ahy izy, dia ho entiko ho any amin’ ny tany izay nalehany izy, ary ny zanany handova izany.
25 So, since the descendants of Amalek and Canaan who are living in the valleys [in Canaan are very strong], when you leave here tomorrow, [instead of traveling toward Canaan], go back along the road through the desert towards the Red Sea.”
Ary ny Amalekita sy ny Kananita no mponina eo amin’ ny lohasaha; koa rahampitso dia miverena ianareo, ka mankanesa any an-efitra amin’ ny lalana mankany amin’ ny Ranomasina Mena.
26 Then Yahweh said to Aaron and Moses/me,
Ary Jehovah niteny tamin’ i Mosesy sy Arona ka nanao hoe:
27 “How long will the wicked people of this nation keep complaining about me [RHQ]? I have heard everything that they have grumbled/complained against me.
Mandra-pahoviana no mbola handeferako amin’ izao fiangonana ratsy mimonomonona amiko izao? Efa reko ny fimonomononan’ ny Zanak’ Isiraely, izay imonomononany amiko.
28 So now tell them this: ‘Just as certainly as I, Yahweh, live, I will do exactly what you said would happen.
Lazao aminy hoe: Raha velona koa Aho, hoy Jehovah, dia araka izay nolazainareo teo anatrehako no hataoko aminareo:
29 [I will cause] all of you to die here in this desert! Because you grumbled about me, none of you who are more than 20 years old and who were counted when Moses counted everyone
Etỳ amin’ ity efitra ity no hiampatramparan’ ny fatinareo; ary ianareo rehetra izay voalamina araka ny nanisana anareo, dia ny hatramin’ ny roa-polo taona no ho miakatra, izay efa nimonomonona tamiko,
30 will enter the land that I solemnly promised to give to you. Only Caleb and Joshua will enter that land.
dia tsy ho tonga mihitsy any amin’ ny tany izay nananganako tanana hamponenana anareo, afa-tsy Kaleba, zanak’ i Jefone, sy Josoa, zanak’ i Nona.
31 You said that your children would be taken from you [to become slaves], but I will take them into the land, and they will enjoy living in the land that you (rejected/said that you could not conquer).
Fa ny zanakareo madinika kosa, izay nolazainareo fa ho babo, dia izy no ho entiko miditra, ary izy no hahalala ny tany izay nolavinareo.
32 But as for you [adults], you will die here in this desert.
Fa ny aminareo, dia hiampatrampatra amin’ ity efitra ity ny fatinareo;
33 And like shepherds [wander around in the desert as they take care of their sheep], your children will wander around in this desert for 40 years. Because you adults were not loyal/faithful to me, your children will suffer until you all die in the desert.
ary ny zanakareo hirenireny toy ny mpiandry ondry atỳ an-efitra efa-polo taona ka hiharan’ ny valin’ ny fijangajanganareo, mandra-pahafatinareo rehetra atỳ an-efitra.
34 You will suffer for your sins for 40 years. That will be one year for each of the 40 days that the twelve men explored Canaan land. And I will be like an enemy to you.’
Araka ny isan’ ny andro efa-polo izay nisafoanareo ny tany, ka ny andro iray hosoloana taona iray no hitondranareo ny helokareo efa-polo taona; ka dia ho fantatrareo ny fahafoizako anareo.
35 [This will certainly happen because] I, Yahweh, have said it! I will do these things to every one in this group who conspired against me. They (conspired against/decided together to reject) me here in the desert, and they will all die right here in this desert!”
Izaho Jehovah efa nilaza fa hataoko tokoa izany amin’ izao fiangonana ratsy rehetra izao, izay miangona hiodina amiko; etỳ amin’ ity efitra ity no hahalany ritra azy, ary etỳ no hahafatesany.
36 Then the ten men [who had explored Canaan and] who had urged the people to rebel against Yahweh by giving reports that discouraged the people
Ary ny lehilahy izay nirahin’ i Mosesy hisafo ny tany, dia izay niverina ka nampimonomonona ny fiangonana rehetra tamin’ i Mosesy, satria nanao laza ratsy ny tany izy,
37 were immediately struck with a plague/disease that Yahweh sent, and they died.
dia matin’ ny areti-mandringana teo anatrehan’ i Jehovah ireny lehilahy nilaza ratsy ny tany ireny.
38 Of the twelve men who had explored Canaan, only Joshua and Caleb remained alive.
Fa Josoa, zanak’ i Nona, sy Kaleba, zanak’ i Jefone, kosa, izay isan’ ny lehilahy nandeha nisafo ny tany, dia velona ihany.
39 When Moses/I reported to the Israeli people what Yahweh had said, many of them were very sad.
Dia nolazain’ i Mosesy tamin’ ny Zanak’ Isiraely rehetra izany teny izany; ka dia nanjoretra terỳ ny olona.
40 So the people got up early the next morning and started to go toward the hilly area in Canaan. They said, “[We know that] we have sinned, but now we [are ready to] enter the land that Yahweh promised to give to us.”
Dia nifoha maraina koa izy ary niakatra tany an-tampon’ ny tendrombohitra ka nanao hoe: Indreto izahay hiakatra ho any amin’ ny tany izay nolazain’ i Jehovah, fa efa nanota izahay.
41 But Moses/I said, “Yahweh commanded you [to return to the desert, so] why are you now disobeying him [RHQ]? It will not (succeed/be possible).
Dia hoy Mosesy: Nahoana no mandika ny didin’ i Jehovah ianareo? fa tsy hambinina izany.
42 Do not try to enter the land now! [If you try], your enemies will defeat you, because Yahweh will not (be with/help) you.
Aza miakatra, fa tsy momba anareo Jehovah,
43 When you begin to fight the descendants of Amalek and Canaan, they will slaughter you! Yahweh will abandon you, because you have abandoned him.”
fandrao ho resy eo anoloan’ ny fahavalonareo ianareo; fa ny Amalekita sy ny Kananita dia eo anoloanareo, ka ho lavon-tsabatra ianareo; satria niala tamin’ ny fanarahana an’ i Jehovah ianareo, dia tsy homba anareo Izy.
44 But even though Moses/I did not leave the camp, and the sacred chest that contained the Ten Commandments was not taken from the camp, the people began to go towards the hilly area in Canaan.
Kanjo sahisahy foana izy ka niakatra teo an-tampon’ ny tendrombohitra ihany; nefa Mosesy sy ny fiaran’ ny faneken’ i Jehovah tsy niala teo an-toby.
45 Then the descendants of Amalek and Canaan who lived in that hilly area came down and attacked them and chased them as far [south] as [the town of] Hormah.
Dia nidina ny Amalekita sy ny Kananita, izay nonina teo amin’ izany tendrombohitra izany, ka namely azy ary nanorotoro azy hatrany Horma.
