Nehemiah 9
1 On October 31, the people gathered together again. They (fasted/abstained from eating food), they wore clothes made from rough cloth, and they put dirt on their heads [to show that they were sorry for their sins].
फिर इसी महीने की चौबीसवीं तारीख़ को बनी — इस्राईल रोज़ा रखकर और टाट ओढ़कर और मिट्टी अपने सिर पर डालकर इकट्ठे हुए।
2 The Israeli people separated themselves from all the foreigners. They stood there and confessed their sins and the sins that their ancestors had committed.
और इस्राईल की नसल के लोग सब परदेसियों से अलग हो गए, और खड़े होकर अपने गुनाहों और अपने बाप — दादा की ख़ताओं का इक़रार किया।
3 The scroll that contained the laws of Yahweh, the God whom they [worshiped], was read to them for three hours. Then for three more hours they confessed their sins and they worshiped Yahweh.
और उन्होंने अपनी अपनी जगह पर खड़े होकर एक पहर तक ख़ुदावन्द अपने ख़ुदा की किताब पढ़ी; और दूसरे पहर में, इक़रार करके ख़ुदावन्द अपने ख़ुदा को सिज्दा करते रहे।
4 [Some of] the descendants of Levi were standing on the stairs. They were Jeshua, Bani, Kadmiel, Shebaniah, Bunni, Sherebiah, [another] Bani, and Kenani.
तब क़दमीएल, यशू'अ, और बानी, और सबनियाह, बुन्नी और सरीबियाह, और बानी, और कना'नी ने लावियों की सीढ़ियों पर खड़े होकर बलन्द आवाज़ से ख़ुदावन्द अपने ख़ुदा से फ़रियाद की।
5 Then [the leaders of] the Levites called out to the people. They were Jeshua, Bani, Hashabneiah, Sherebiah, Hodiah, Shebaniah, and Pethahiah. They said, “While you are standing there, praise Yahweh your God, who has always lived and will live forever!” [Then one of them continued by praying this to God], “Yahweh, we praise your glorious name! You are much greater than anything that we can think about or talk about!
फिर यशू'अ, और क़दमिएल और बानी और हसबनियाह और सरीबियाह और हूदियाह, और सबनियाह, और फ़तहियाह लावियों ने कहा, खड़े हो जाओ, और कहो, ख़ुदावन्द हमारा ख़ुदा इब्तिदा से हमेशा तक मुबारक है; तेरा जलाली नाम मुबारक हो, जो सब हम्द — ओ — ता'रीफ़ से बाला है।
6 “You only are God. You made the sky and the heavens and all the stars. You made the earth and everything that is on it, and you made the seas/oceans and everything that is in them. You are the one who gives life to everything and helps them remain alive. All the angels who are in heaven worship you.
तू ही अकेला ख़ुदावन्द है; तूने आसमान और आसमानों के आसमान को और उनके सारे लश्कर को, और ज़मीन को और जो कुछ उसपर है, और समन्दरों को और जो कुछ उनमें है बनाया और तू उन सभों का परवरदिगार है; और आसमान का लश्कर तुझे सिज्दा करता है।
7 “Yahweh, you are God. You chose Abram and brought him out of Ur [city] in Chaldea [region]. You gave him a new name, Abraham.
तू वह ख़ुदावन्द ख़ुदा है जिसने इब्रहाम को चुन लिया, और उसे कसदियों के ऊर से निकाल लाया, और उसका नाम अब्रहाम रख्खा;
8 You saw that he was trustworthy. Then you made (an agreement with/a promise to) him, saying that you would give [to him and] to his descendants the land that the descendants of Canaan, Heth, Amor, Periz, Jebus, and Girgash lived in. And you have done what you promised, because you always do what is right.
तूने उसका दिल अपने सामने वफ़ादार पाया, और कना'नियों हित्तियों और अमोरियों फ़रिज़्ज़ियों और यबूसियों और जिरजासियों का मुल्क देने का 'अहद उससे बाँधा ताकि उसे उसकी नसल को दे; और तूने अपने सुख़न पूरे किए क्यूँकि तू सादिक़ है।
9 “You saw what our ancestors were suffering in Egypt. You heard them cry to you for help when they were at the Red Sea.
और तूने मिस्र में हमारे बाप — दादा की मुसीबत पर नज़र की, और बहर — ए — कु़लजु़म के किनारे उनकी फ़रियाद सुनी।
10 Because you knew that the leaders of Egypt were treating our ancestors very arrogantly, you performed many kinds of miracles that caused the king and his officials and all his people to suffer. As a result, you became famous then, and you are still famous!
और फ़िर'औन और उसके सब नौकरों, और उसके मुल्क की सब र'इयत पर निशान और 'अजायब कर दिखाए; क्यूँकि तू जानता था कि वह ग़ुरूर के साथ उनसे पेश आए। इसलिए तेरा बड़ा नाम हुआ, जैसा आज है।
11 You caused the Red Sea to divide, with the result that your people walked through it on the ground without [getting their feet] wet. [After they were all safely on the other side, ] you [caused the water to come back again], and you hurled into the deep water the [soldiers of the Egyptian army] that were pursuing our ancestors. Their soldiers sank into the deep sea like stones!
और तूने उनके आगे समन्दर को दो हिस्से किया, ऐसा कि वह समन्दर के बीच सूखी ज़मीन पर होकर चले; और तूने उनका पीछा करनेवालों को गहराओ में डाला, जैसा पत्थर समन्दर में फेंका जाता है।
12 During each day you led our ancestors with a bright cloud that resembled a huge pillar, and each night you led them by a flaming cloud that gave them light to show them where to walk.
और तूने दिन को बादल के सुतून में होकर उनकी रहनुमाई की और रात को आग के सुतून में, ताकि जिस रास्ते उनको चलना था उसमें उनको रोशनी मिले।
13 “When our ancestors were at Sinai Mountain, you came down from heaven and spoke to them. You gave them many regulations and instructions that are just and reliable, and you gave them commands and laws that are good.
और तू कोह-ए-सीना पर उतर आया, और तूने आसमान पर से उनके साथ बातें कीं, और रास्त अहकाम और सच्चे क़ानून और अच्छे आईन — ओ — फ़रमान उनको दिए,
14 You taught them about your holy (Sabbath/day of rest), and you gave many kinds of laws to your servant Moses for him to tell to the people.
और उनको अपने पाक सबत से वाक़िफ़ किया, और अपने बन्दे मूसा के ज़रिए' उनको अहकाम और आईन और शरी'अत दी।
15 When they were hungry, you gave them manna from the sky; and when they were thirsty, you gave them water from a rock. You commanded them to go and take, from the people who lived there, the land which you had promised to give to them.
और तूने उनकी भूक मिटाने को आसमान पर से रोटी दी, और उनकी प्यास बुझाने को चट्टान में से उनके लिए पानी निकाला, और उनको फ़रमाया कि वह जाकर उस मुल्क पर क़ब्ज़ा करें जिसको उनको देने की तूने क़सम खाई थी।
16 “But our ancestors were very proud and stubborn [IDM], and they did not do what you commanded them to do.
लेकिन उन्होंने और हमारे बाप — दादा ने ग़ुरूर किया, और बाग़ी बने और तेरे हुक्मों को न माना;
17 They refused to heed you, and they forgot about all the miracles that you had performed for them. Instead, they became stubborn [IDM], and they appointed someone to lead them back to Egypt, where they would be slaves again! But you are a God who forgives us and who is kind and merciful [to us]. You do not quickly become angry. You always faithfully love us.
और फ़रमाँबरदारी से इन्कार किया, और तेरे 'अजायब को जो तूने उनके बीच किए याद न रख्खा; बल्कि बाग़ी बने और अपनी बग़ावत में अपने लिए एक सरदार मुक़र्रर किया, ताकि अपनी ग़ुलामी की तरफ़ लौट जाएँ। लेकिन तू वह ख़ुदा है जो रहीम — ओ — करीम मु'आफ़ करने को तैयार, और क़हर करने में धीमा, और शफ़क़त में ग़नी है, इसलिए तूने उनको छोड़ न दिया।
18 So, even though their [leaders] made an idol that resembled a calf and insulted you by saying [about the idol], ‘This is our god, who brought you up out of Egypt,’ you did not desert them.
लेकिन जब उन्होंने अपने लिए ढाला हुआ बछड़ा बनाकर कहा, 'ये तेरा ख़ुदा है, जो तुझे मुल्क — ए — मिस्र से निकाल लाया, और यूँ ग़ुस्सा दिलाने के बड़े बड़े काम किए;
19 “Because you always act mercifully, you did not abandon them when they were in the desert. The bright cloud which was like a huge pillar continued to lead them during the daytime, and the fiery cloud showed them where to walk at night.
तो भी तूने अपनी गूँनागूँ रहमतों से उनको वीराने में छोड़ न दिया; दिन को बादल का सुतून उनके ऊपर से दूर न हुआ, ताकि रास्ते में उनकी रहनुमाई करे, और न रात को आग का सुतून दूर हुआ, ताकि वह उनको रोशनी और वह रास्ता दिखाए जिससे उनको चलना था।
20 You sent your good Spirit to instruct them. You continued to provide water when they were thirsty.
और तूने अपनी नेक रूह भी उनकी तरबियत के लिए बख़्शी, और मन को उनके मुँह से न रोका, और उनको प्यास को बुझाने को पानी दिया।
21 For 40 years you took care of them in the desert. During all that time, they had everything [that they needed]. Their clothes did not wear out, and their feet did not swell up [even though they were continually walking].
चालीस बरस तक तू वीराने में उनकी परवरिश करता रहा; वह किसी चीज़ के मुहताज न हुए, न तो उनके कपड़े पुराने हुए और न उनके पाँव सूजे।
22 “You helped our ancestors to defeat armies of great kings who ruled many people-groups. By doing that, you enabled our ancestors to (occupy/live in) even the most distant places in this land. They occupied the land over which King Sihon ruled from Heshbon [city] and the land over which King Og ruled in [the] Bashan [area].
इसके सिवा तूने उनको ममलुकतें और उम्मतें बख़्शीं, जिनको तूने उनके हिस्सों के मुताबिक़ उनको बाँट दिया; चुनाँचे वह सीहोन के मुल्क, और शाह — ए — हस्बोन के मुल्क, और बसन के बादशाह 'ओज के मुल्क पर क़ाबिज़ हुए।
23 You caused our ancestors’ descendants to become as numerous as the stars in the sky, and you brought them into this land, the land that you told their fathers to enter and occupy.
तूने उनकी औलाद को बढ़ाकर आसमान के सितारों की तरह कर दिया, और उनको उस मुल्क में लाया जिसके बारे में तूने उनके बाप — दादा से कहा था कि वह जाकर उसपर क़ब्ज़ा करें।
24 Their sons went in and took the land [from the people that lived there]. You enabled them to defeat the descendants of Canaan who lived here in this land. You enabled them to conquer the descendants of Canaan and their kings and the people whom they ruled. You enabled our ancestors to do to those people whatever they wanted to do.
तब उनकी औलाद ने आकर इस मुल्क पर क़ब्ज़ा किया, और तूने उनके आगे इस मुल्क के बाशिन्दों या'नी कना'नियों को मग़लूब किया, और उनको उनके बादशाहों और इस मुल्क के लोगों के साथ उनके हाथ में कर दिया कि जैसा चाहें वैसा उनसे करें।
25 Our ancestors captured cities that had walls around them, and they took possession of fertile land. They took possession of houses that were full of good things, where there were wells that were already dug. They took possession of many vineyards and groves of olive trees and fruit trees. They ate all that they wanted to and became fat. They were delighted in all these good things that you gave to them.
तब उन्होंने फ़सीलदार शहरों और ज़रख़ेज़ मुल्क को ले लिया, और वह सब तरह के अच्छे माल से भरे हुए घरों और खोदे हुए कुँवों, और बहुत से अंगूरिस्तानों और ज़ैतून के बाग़ों और फलदार दरख़्तों के मालिक हुए; फिर वह खा कर सेर हुए और मोटे ताज़े हो गए, और तेरे बड़े एहसान से बहुत हज़ उठाया।
26 “But they disobeyed you and rebelled against you. They (turned their backs on/rejected) your laws. They killed the prophets who warned them that they should return to you. They badly insulted you.
तो भी वह ना — फ़रमान होकर तुझ से बाग़ी हुए, और उन्होंने तेरी शरी'अत को पीठ पीछे फेंका, और तेरे नबियों को जो उनके ख़िलाफ़ गवाही देते थे ताकि उनको तेरी तरफ़ फिरा लायें क़त्ल किया और उन्होंने ग़ुस्सा दिलाने के बड़े — बड़े काम किए।
27 So you allowed their enemies to defeat them. But when their enemies caused them to suffer, they called out to you. You heard them from heaven, and because you are very merciful, you sent them people to help them, and those leaders rescued them from their enemies.
इसलिए तूने उनको उनके दुश्मनों के हाथ में कर दिया, जिन्होंने उनको सताया; और अपने दुख के वक़्त में जब उन्होंने तुझ से फ़रियाद की, तो तूने आसमान पर से सुन लिया और अपनी गूँनागूँ रहमतों के मुताबिक़ उनको छुड़ाने वाले दिए जिन्होंने उनको उनके दुश्मनों के हाथ से छुड़ाया।
28 “But after there was a time of peace again, our ancestors again did things that displeased you. So again you allowed their enemies to conquer them. But whenever they cried out to you again [to help them], you heard them from heaven, and because you act mercifully, you rescued them many times.
लेकिन जब उनको आराम मिला तो उन्होंने फिर तेरे आगे बदकारी की, इसलिए तूने उनको उनके दुश्मनों के क़ब्ज़े में छोड़ दिया इसलिए वह उन पर मुसल्लत रहे; तो भी जब वह रुजू' लाए और तुझ से फ़रियाद की, तो तूने आसमान पर से सुन लिया और अपनी रहमतों के मुताबिक़ उनको बार — बार छुड़ाया;
29 “You warned them that they should again [obey] your laws, but they became proud and stubborn, and they disobeyed your commands. They sinned by disobeying what you commanded them to do, the things that would enable them to live a good long life [if they obeyed them]. They stubbornly refused [IDM] to listen to you and continued sinning.
और तूने उनके ख़िलाफ़ गवाही दी, ताकि अपनी शरी'अत की तरफ़ उनको फेर लाए। लेकिन उन्होंने ग़ुरूर किया और तेरे फ़रमान न माने, बल्कि तेरे अहकाम के बरख़िलाफ़ गुनाह किया जिनको अगर कोई माने, तो उनकी वजह से जीता रहेगा, और अपने कन्धे को हटाकर बाग़ी बन गए और न सुना।
30 You were patient with them for many years. You warned them trough [the messages] your Spirit gave to the prophets. But they did not (heed/pay attention to) those messages. So again you allowed [the armies of] other nations to defeat them.
तो भी तू बहुत बरसों तक उनकी बर्दाश्त करता रहा, और अपनी रूह से अपने नबियों के ज़रिए' उनके ख़िलाफ़ गवाही देता रहा; तो भी उन्होंने कान न लगाया, इसलिए तूने उनको और मुल्को के लोगों के हाथ में कर दिया।
31 But because you act very mercifully, you did not get rid of them completely or abandon them [forever]. You are a very gracious/kind and merciful God!
बावजूद इसके तूने अपनी गूँनागूँ रहमतों के ज़रिए' उनको नाबूद न कर दिया और न उनको छोड़ा, क्यूँकि तू रहीम — ओ — करीम ख़ुदा है।
32 “Our God, you are great! You are mighty! You are awesome! You faithfully love us as [you promised in] your agreement with us that you would do! But now we are experiencing great difficulties/hardships. Great troubles have come to us, to our kings, to our [other] leaders, to our priests, and to our prophets. We have been experiencing these troubles since [the armies of] the kings of Assyria [conquered us], and we are still experiencing them. We ask that you sincerely think about [LIT] all these things.
“इसलिए अब, ऐ हमारे ख़ुदा, बुज़ुर्ग, और क़ादिर — ओ — मुहीब ख़ुदा जो 'अहद — ओ — रहमत को क़ाईम रखता है। वह दुख जो हम पर और हमारे बादशाहों पर, और हमारे सरदारों और हमारे काहिनों पर, और हमारे नबियों और हमारे बाप — दादा पर, और तेरे सब लोगों पर असूर के बादशाहों के ज़माने से आज तक पड़ा है, इसलिए तेरे सामने हल्का न मा'लूम हो;
33 [We know that] you acted justly each time that you punished us. We have sinned greatly, but you have treated us fairly.
तो भी जो कुछ हम पर आया है उस सब में तू 'आदिल है क्यूँकि तू सच्चाई से पेश आया, लेकिन हम ने शरारत की।
34 Our kings and other leaders and our priests and our other ancestors did not obey your laws. They did not heed your commands or the warnings that you gave to them.
और हमारे बादशाहों और सरदारों और हमारे काहिनों और बाप — दादा ने न तो तेरी शरी'अत पर 'अमल किया और न तेरे अहकाम और शहादतों को माना, जिनसे तू उनके ख़िलाफ़ गवाही देता रहा।
35 Even when they had their own kings, and they enjoyed the good things that you did for them in this large and fertile land that you gave to them, they did not serve you. They refused to quit doing what was evil.
क्यूँकि उन्होंने अपनी ममलुकत में, और तेरे बड़े एहसान के वक़्त जो तूने उन पर किया, और इस वसी' और ज़रख़ेज़ मुल्क में जो तूने उनके हवाले कर दिया, तेरी इबादत न की और न वह अपनी बदकारियों से बाज़ आए।
36 “So now we are [like] slaves here in this land that you gave to our ancestors, the land that you gave to them in order that they could enjoy all the good things that grow here.
देख, आज हम ग़ुलाम हैं, बल्कि उसी मुल्क में जो तूने हमारे बाप — दादा को दिया कि उसका फल और पैदावार खाएँ; इसलिए देख, हम उसी में ग़ुलाम हैं।
37 Because we have sinned, [we cannot eat the things that grow here]. The kings that now rule over us are enjoying the things that grow here. They rule us and [take] our cattle. We have to serve them and do the things that please them. We are experiencing great misery/distress.
वह अपनी कसीर पैदावार उन बादशाहों को देता है, जिनको तूने हमारे गुनाहों की वजह से हम पर मुसल्लत किया है; वह हमारे जिस्मों और हमारी मवाशी पर भी जैसा चाहते हैं इख़्तियार रखते हैं, और हम सख़्त मुसीबत में हैं।”
38 “However, we [Israeli] people now are making an agreement/promise [to obey you], and we are writing this agreement/promise [on a scroll]. We will write on it the names of our leaders and the names of the Levites and the names of the priests, and then we will seal it.”
“इन सब बातों की वजह से हम सच्चा 'अहद करते और लिख भी देते हैं, और हमारे हाकिम, और हमारे लावी, और हमारे काहिन उसपर मुहर करते हैं।”
