Joshua 23

1 Yahweh enabled the Israelis to live peacefully [for many years] with the people-groups that were around them.

ORA, lungo tempo appresso che il Signore ebbe dato riposo a Israele da tutti i suoi nemici d'ogn'intorno, Giosuè, essendo vecchio [ed] attempato,

2 Joshua was now very old. [One day] he summoned the leaders of the tribes of Israel, the leaders of the clans, the judges, and [other] officials. He said to them, “I am now very old.

chiamò tutto Israele, gli Anziani, e i Capi, e i Giudici, e gli Ufficiali di esso, e disse loro: Io sono omai vecchio [ed] attempato;

3 You people have seen what Yahweh our God has done to help you defeat the people-groups [that lived in this land]. Yahweh our God has fought for you.

e voi avete veduto tutto ciò che il Signore Iddio vostro ha fatto a tutte queste genti per cagion vostra; conciossiachè il Signore Iddio vostro [sia] quel che ha combattuto per voi.

4 But do not forget that he has given to you all this land, from the Jordan [River in the east] to the Mediterranean Sea in the west, all this land that I have allotted to you.

Ecco, io vi ho spartito a sorte, per eredità, secondo le vostre tribù, [il paese di] queste genti che restano, insieme col [paese di] tutte quelle che io ho sterminate, [cioè] dal Giordano, [infino] al mar grande, verso il Ponente.

5 Yahweh our God will compel the people who are still living there to leave. He will push them out as you advance. Then the land will be yours, as Yahweh has promised you.

E il Signore Iddio vostro disperderà quelle dal vostro cospetto, e le scaccerà d'innanzi a voi; e voi possederete il lor paese, come il Signore Iddio vostro ve ne ha parlato.

6 “Be sure that you obey all the laws that are in the book that Moses wrote. Do not disobey any part of it [IDM].

Perciò, fortificatevi vie più, per osservare, e per fare tutto quello che è scritto nel Libro della Legge di Mosè; acciocchè non ve ne rivolgiate nè a destra nè a sinistra;

7 Do not associate with the people who live among us [who are not Israelis and who worship other gods]. Do not mention the names of their gods, and do not use the names of their gods when you promise to do something. Do not serve their gods or worship them.

[e] non entriate da queste genti che restano appresso di voi, e non ricordiate il nome de' loro dii, e non li usiate in giuramenti, e non serviate loro, e non li adoriate.

8 You must continue to do what Yahweh our God wants us to do, as you have been doing.

Anzi vi atteniate al Signore Iddio vostro, come avete fatto infino ad oggi.

9 “Yahweh has forced [many] very powerful people-groups to leave as you advanced. No people-group has been able to defeat you.

Onde il Signore ha cacciate dal cospetto vostro delle nazioni grandi e potenti; e niuno è potuto starvi a fronte fino ad oggi.

10 Each of you will be able to cause 1,000 of them to run away, because Yahweh your God will fight for you, just like he promised to do.

Un solo uomo d'infra voi ne perseguiterà mille; perciocchè il Signore Iddio vostro [è] quel che combatte per voi; come egli ve ne ha parlato.

11 So be sure that you continue to love Yahweh our God.

Prendetevi adunque diligentemente guardia, sopra le anime vostre, di amare il Signore Iddio vostro.

12 “If you turn away from doing what Yahweh desires and you associate with the people who are not Israelis, and if you marry them,

Perciocchè, se pur voi vi rivoltate, e vi congiungete col rimanente di queste genti, che son rimaste appresso di voi, e v'imparentate con loro, ed entrate da loro, ed esse entrano da voi,

13 then you can be sure that Yahweh our God will not help you to expel those people-groups from your land. They will be [like] traps [DOU, MET] [that will catch you]. They will be [like] whips [that strike] your backs, and like thorns [that will scratch] your eyes. As a result, none of you will be left in this good land that Yahweh our God is giving to you.

sappiate di certo che il Signore Iddio vostro non continuerà di scacciar queste genti d'innanzi a voi; anzi esse vi saranno per laccio, ed intoppo, e flagello a' fianchi, e spine agli occhi, finchè periate d'in su questa buona terra, che il Signore Iddio vostro vi ha data.

14 “It is almost time for me to die, like everyone does [EUP]. You know in your hearts [DOU] that Yahweh has done for you [LIT] everything that he promised to do.

Or ecco, io me ne vo oggi per la via di tutta la terra; riconoscete adunque con tutto il cuor vostro, e con tutta l'anima vostra, che non pure una di tutte le buone parole che il Signore Iddio vostro vi avea dette, è caduta [in terra]; ogni cosa vi è avvenuta; non ne è caduta [in terra] una sola parola.

15 He has given to you all the good things that he promised. In the same way, the other things that he promised, [things that are not good], will also happen. He said that if you do what is evil, he will get rid of you and send you away from this good land that he has given to you.

Ma egli avverrà che, come ogni buona parola che il Signore Iddio vostro vi avea detta, vi è avvenuta, così il Signore farà venir sopra voi ogni malvagia parola, finchè vi abbia sterminati d'in su questa buona terra, la quale il Signore Iddio vostro vi ha data;

16 That will happen if you do not obey the commands that Yahweh our God told you to obey. If you serve other gods and worship them, Yahweh will become very angry with you. Very quickly [he will expel you from] this good land that he has given to you, [and] none of you will be left here.”

se voi trasgredite il patto del Signore Iddio vostro, il quale egli vi ha comandato, e andate a servire ad altri dii, e li adorate. E l'ira del Signore si accenderà contro a voi, e perirete subitamente d'in su questa buona terra, la quale egli vi ha data.
