Joshua 16

1 The land that was allotted to [the two tribes of Ephraim and Manasseh that were descended from] Joseph started at the Jordan [River], east of the springs at Jericho.

Puis le sort échut aux enfants de Joseph, depuis le Jourdain de Jérico aux eaux de Jérico vers l'Orient, qui est le désert; montant de Jérico par la montagne jusqu'à Béthel.

2 It extended west from Jericho to the hilly area near Bethel, which is also called Luz. It extended as far as Ataroth, at the border of the land where the Arki people-group lived.

Et cette frontière devait sortir de Béthel vers Luz, puis passer sur les confins de l'Arkien jusqu'à Hataroth.

3 From there it extended west to the border of the land where the Japhleti people-group lived, and then it extended west to the area near Lower Beth-Horon. From there it extended west to Gezer [city] and from there to the [Mediterranean] Sea.

Et elle devait descendre tirant vers l'Occident, aux confins du Japhletien, jusqu'aux confins de Beth-horon la basse, et jusqu'à Guézer; de sorte que ses extrémités se devaient rendre à la mer.

4 That is the land that the tribes of Ephraim and Manasseh were allotted.

Ainsi les enfants de Joseph, [savoir] Manassé et Ephraïm, prirent leur héritage.

5 The border of the land that was allotted to the clans of the tribe of Ephraim started at Ataroth-Addar [city] in the east. It extended to Upper Beth-Horon

Or la frontière des enfants d'Ephraïm selon leurs familles était telle, que la frontière de leur héritage vers l'Orient fut Hatroth-addar, jusqu'à Beth-horon la haute.

6 and from there to the [Mediterranean] Sea.

Et cette frontière devait sortir vers la mer en Micmethah [du côté] du Septentrion; et cette frontière devait se tourner vers l'Orient jusqu'à Tahanath-Silo, et passant du côté d'Orient, se rendre à Janoah;

7 From Michmethath [on the north] it extended east to Taanath and from there on to Janoah. From there it extended [south] to Ataroth [city] and to Naarah [town]. From there it extended to Jericho and from there to the Jordan [River].

Puis descendre de vers Janoah à Hataroth, et vers Naharath, et se rencontrer à Jérico, et sortir au Jourdain.

8 The [northern] border extended from Tappuah west to Kanah Ravine, and ended at the [Mediterranean] Sea. That was the land that was allotted to the tribe of Ephraim.

Et cette frontière devait aller de Tappuah tirant vers la mer, jusqu'au torrent de Kana; tellement que ses extrémités se devaient rendre à la mer. Ce fut là l'héritage de la Tribu des enfants d'Ephraïm, selon leurs familles;

9 Many of those towns were really within the area allotted to the tribe of Manasseh.

Avec les villes qui furent séparées pour les enfants d'Ephraïm parmi l'héritage des enfants de Manassé; toutes ces villes, [dis-je], avec leurs villages.

10 The people of the tribe of Ephraim could not force the Canaan people-group to leave Gezer, so the Canaan people-group still live among the people of the tribe of Ephraim, but the Israelis forced the people of the Canaan people-group to become their slaves.

Or ils ne dépossédèrent point les Cananéens qui habitaient à Guézer; c'est pourquoi les Cananéens ont habité parmi Ephraïm jusqu'à ce jour; mais ils ont été tributaires, et asservis.
