John 5
1 Some time later, Jesus went up to Jerusalem when the Jews were having [another] celebration.
Danach war ein Fest der Juden, und Jesus zog hinauf gen Jerusalem.
2 At one of the gates [into the city] called the Sheep Gate, there is a pool. In our language we call it Bethzatha. [Around the pool] were five open areas with roofs over them.
Es ist aber zu Jerusalem bei dem Schafhause ein Teich, der heißt auf ebräisch Bethesda und hat fünf Hallen,
3 Many people were lying there. They were people who were blind, lame, or paralyzed.
in welchen lagen viel Kranke, Blinde, Lahme, Dürre; die warteten, wenn sich das Wasser bewegte.
Denn ein Engel fuhr herab zu seiner Zeit in den Teich und bewegte das Wasser. Welcher nun der erste, nachdem das Wasser beweget war, hineinstieg, der ward gesund, mit welcherlei Seuche er behaftet war.
5 One of those who was there had been paralyzed for 38 years.
Es war aber ein Mensch daselbst, achtunddreißig Jahre krank gelegen.
6 Jesus saw him lying there and found out that the man had been like that for a long time. He said to the man, “Do you want to become well?”
Da Jesus denselbigen sah liegen und vernahm, daß er so lange gelegen hatte, spricht er zu ihm: Willst du gesund werden?
7 The paralyzed man replied to him, “[Yes], sir, [I want to get well, but] there is no one to help me get down into the pool when the water is stirred {stirs}. While I am trying to get [to the pool], someone else always gets there before me.”
Der Kranke antwortete ihm: HERR, ich habe keinen Menschen, wenn das Wasser sich beweget, der mich in den Teich lasse; und wenn ich komme, so steiget ein anderer vor mir hinein.
8 Jesus said to him, “Get up! Then pick up your mat and walk!”
Jesus spricht zu ihm: Stehe auf, nimm dein Bett und gehe hin!
9 The man immediately was healed. He picked up his mat and started walking! The day on which this happened was a Jewish day of rest.
Und alsbald ward der Mensch gesund und nahm sein Bett und ging hin. Es war aber desselbigen Tages der Sabbat.
10 So the Jewish [leaders] said to the man who had been healed, “Today is (the Sabbath/our rest day), and [in our Jewish] laws [it is written that people should not work on our] ([Sabbath/rest day]), so you should not be carrying your mat!”
Da sprachen die Juden zu dem, der gesund war worden: Es ist heute Sabbat; es ziemt dir nicht, das Bett zu tragen.
11 The man replied to them, “The man who healed me, he himself said to me, ‘Pick up your mat and walk!’”
Er antwortete ihnen: Der mich gesund machte, der sprach zu mir: Nimm dein Bett und gehe hin.
12 They asked him, “Who is the man who said to you, ‘Pick it up and walk!’?”
Da fragten sie ihn: Wer ist der Mensch, der zu dir gesagt hat: Nimm dein Bett und gehe hin?
13 But since Jesus had disappeared in the crowd [without telling the man his name], the man did not know who it was [who had healed him].
Der aber gesund war worden, wußte nicht, wer er war; denn Jesus war gewichen, da so viel Volks an dem Ort war.
14 Later, Jesus found the man in the Temple [courtyard]. He [told the man his name, and] said to him, “Listen! You are healed! So stop sinning! If you do not stop sinning, something will happen to you that will be worse [than the illness you had before]!”
Danach fand ihn Jesus im Tempel und sprach zu ihm: Siehe zu, du bist gesund worden; sündige hinfort nicht mehr, daß dir nicht etwas Ärgeres widerfahre!
15 The man went away and told the Jewish [leaders] [SYN] that it was Jesus who had healed him.
Der Mensch ging hin und verkündigte es den Juden, es sei Jesus, der ihn gesund gemacht habe.
16 So the Jewish [leaders] [SYN] started to harass Jesus, because Jesus was doing these things (on the Sabbath/on the Jewish rest day).
Darum verfolgten die Juden Jesum und suchten ihn zu töten, daß er solches getan hatte auf den Sabbat.
17 Then Jesus replied to them, “My Father has always been working every day, [including] ([the Sabbath/the day of rest]), up until now. I am doing the same thing!”
Jesus aber antwortete ihnen: Mein Vater wirket bisher, und ich wirke auch.
18 The Jewish leaders [SYN] considered that he was disobeying their rules about (the Sabbath/the day of rest), and that by saying that God was his Father, he was making himself equal with God. And they considered that both these things were grounds for killing him. So they tried even harder to find a way to kill him.
Darum trachteten ihm die Juden nun viel mehr nach, daß sie ihn töteten, daß er nicht allein den Sabbat brach, sondern sagte auch, Gott sei sein Vater, und machte sich selbst Gott gleich.
19 Jesus replied to them by saying, “You need to know this: I can do nothing by my own [authority]. I do only the [kind of] things that I see [my] Father doing. Whatever kinds of things my Father is doing, those are the things I am doing.
Da antwortete Jesus und sprach zu ihnen: Wahrlich, wahrlich, ich sage euch, der Sohn kann nichts von ihm selber tun, denn was er siehet den Vater tun; denn was derselbige tut, das tut gleich auch der Sohn.
20 [My] Father loves me, and he shows me everything that he is doing. He will show me [the miracles] that [he wants me to do] that will be greater than the ones that [you have already seen me do], so that you may be amazed.
Der Vater aber hat den Sohn lieb und zeiget ihm alles, was er tut, und wird ihm noch größere Werke zeigen, daß ihr euch verwundern werdet.
21 [For example], just like [my] Father causes people who have died to become alive again, I will give [eternal] life to everyone that I want to.
Denn wie der Vater die Toten auferweckt und machet sie lebendig, also auch der Sohn machet lebendig, welche er will.
22 Furthermore, [my] Father is not the one who judges people [concerning their sins]. Instead, he has given to me the work of judging people,
Denn der Vater richtet niemand, sondern alles Gericht hat er dem Sohn gegeben,
23 in order that all people may honor me, just like they honor [my] Father. [My] Father [considers that] anyone who does not honor me is not honoring [him], the one who sent me.
auf daß sie alle den Sohn ehren, wie sie den Vater ehren. Wer den Sohn nicht ehret, der ehret den Vater nicht, der ihn gesandt hat.
24 Listen to this carefully: Those who hear my message and believe that [God] is the one who sent me have eternal life. [God will] not (condemn them/say that he will punish them). They are no longer separated from God. Instead, they have [eternal] life. (aiōnios g166)
Wahrlich, wahrlich, ich sage euch: Wer mein Wort höret und glaubet dem, der mich gesandt hat, der hat das ewige Leben und kommt nicht in das Gericht, sondern er ist vom Tode zum Leben hindurchgedrungen. (aiōnios g166)
25 Listen to this carefully: There will be a time when those who are (spiritually dead/separated from God) will hear the voice of me, (the Son of God/the man who is also God). In fact, it is that time already. Those who hear [and pay attention to my message] will have [eternal] life.
Wahrlich, wahrlich, ich sage euch: Es kommt die Stunde und ist schon jetzt, daß die Toten werden die Stimme des Sohnes Gottes hören; und die sie hören werden, die werden leben.
26 [My] Father has [power to] make things live. Similarly, he has given me the [power to enable] people to live [eternally].
Denn wie der Vater das Leben hat in ihm selber, also hat er dem Sohn gegeben, das Leben zu haben in ihm selber
27 Because I am the one who came from heaven, he has given me the authority to judge people [concerning their sins].
Und hat ihm Macht gegeben, auch das Gericht zu halten, darum daß er des Menschen Sohn ist.
28 Do not be surprised about that, because there will be a time when all people who have died will hear my voice,
Verwundert euch des nicht; denn es kommt die Stunde, in welcher alle, die in den Gräbern sind, werden seine Stimme hören
29 and they will become alive again. Those who have lived good [lives] will rise [from their graves] and live forever. But those who have lived evil lives will rise, and I will (condemn them/declare that I will punish them [for their sins]).
und werden hervorgehen, die da Gutes getan haben, zur Auferstehung des Lebens, die aber Übels getan haben, zur Auferstehung des Gerichts.
30 I do not do anything [like that] by my own authority. I judge people only according to what I hear [my Father tell me]. I will judge people fairly, because I do not want to please only myself. Instead, I want to please [my Father], who sent me.
Ich kann nichts von mir selber tun. Wie ich höre, so richte ich, und mein Gericht ist recht; denn ich suche nicht meinen Willen, sondern des Vaters Willen, der mich gesandt hat.
31 If I were the [only] one to tell people about myself, [people could rightly say that] what I say is not true.
So ich von mir selbst zeuge, so ist mein Zeugnis nicht wahr.
32 But there is someone else who tells people about me. And I know that what he tells people about me is true.
Ein anderer ist's, der von mir zeuget; und ich weiß, daß das Zeugnis wahr ist, das er von mir zeuget.
33 As for you, when you sent messengers to John [the Baptizer to ask about me], he told the truth [about me].
Ihr schicktet zu Johannes, und er zeugete von der Wahrheit.
34 I do not [need that] people tell others [about me]. But instead, I am reminding [you about what John told people about me], in order that you will [believe it and] be saved {[God] will save you}.
Ich aber nehme nicht Zeugnis von Menschen, sondern solches sage ich, auf daß ihr selig werdet.
35 [John’s message about me] (OR, [John]) [MET] was [like] a lamp that shines brightly. For a short while you were willing to be made happy [by that message] {to let [that message] make you happy}.
Er war ein brennend und scheinend Licht; ihr aber wolltet eine kleine Weile fröhlich sein von seinem Licht.
36 But there is something else that tells you about me. [It should prove who I am] more than what John [said about me]. The miracles [PRS] that [my] Father told me to do, the miracles that I am performing, show (OR, prove) to people that my Father sent me.
Ich aber habe ein größer Zeugnis denn des Johannes Zeugnis; denn die Werke, die mir der Vater gegeben hat, daß ich sie vollende, dieselbigen Werke, die ich tue, zeugen von mir, daß mich der Vater gesandt habe.
37 Furthermore, [my] Father, who sent me, tells people about me. You have never heard his voice or seen him.
Und der Vater, der mich gesandt hat, derselbige hat von mir gezeuget. Ihr habt nie weder seine Stimme gehöret noch seine Gestalt gesehen.
38 Furthermore, you have not believed in [me], the one he sent. So you have not [believed] his message in your inner beings.
Und sein Wort habt ihr nicht in euch wohnend; denn ihr glaubet dem nicht, den er gesandt hat.
39 You carefully study (OR, Study) the Scriptures, because you think that by [studying] them you will [find the way to] have eternal life. And those Scriptures tell people about me! (aiōnios g166)
Suchet in der Schrift; denn ihr meinet, ihr habt das ewige Leben darinnen; und sie ist's, die von mir zeuget. (aiōnios g166)
40 But you refuse (to come to me/to believe my message) in order that you may have [eternal] life.
Und ihr wollt nicht zu mir kommen, daß ihr das Leben haben möchtet.
41 It does not [matter to] me whether people praise me.
Ich nehme nicht Ehre von Menschen.
42 But you [want people to praise you]. I know that within yourselves you do not love God.
Aber ich kenne euch, daß ihr nicht Gottes Liebe in euch habt.
43 Although I have come to earth with my Father’s authority [MTY], you do not accept me. But if someone else comes with his own authority [MTY], you accept him!
Ich bin kommen in meines Vaters Namen, und ihr nehmet mich nicht an. So ein anderer wird in seinem eigenen Namen kommen, den werdet ihr annehmen.
44 You accept your praising each other, but you do not try to do things that will result in God himself praising you. So (there is no way you can believe [in me]!/how can you believe [my message]?) [RHQ]
Wie könnet ihr glauben, die ihr Ehre voneinander nehmet? Und die Ehre, die von Gott allein ist, suchet ihr nicht.
45 But do not think that I am the one who will accuse you while [my] Father is listening! No, it is Moses who will accuse you! You thought that he would [defend you].
Ihr sollt nicht meinen, daß ich euch vor dem Vater verklagen werde. Es ist einer, der euch verklaget, der Mose, auf welchen ihr hoffet.
46 Moses wrote about me, so if you had believed what he [wrote], you would have believed what I [said]
Wenn ihr Mose glaubtet, so glaubtet ihr auch mir; denn er hat von mir geschrieben.
47 But because you did not believe what he wrote [about me], (you will certainly not believe what I say!/how will you believe what I say?) [RHQ]”
So ihr aber seinen Schriften nicht glaubet, wie werdet ihr meinen Worten glauben?
