< Jeremiah 51 >

1 This is what Yahweh says: “I will inspire/motivate [an army] to destroy Babylon [like a powerful] wind [MET], and [also] to destroy the people of Babylonia.
Seyè a di konsa: -Mwen pral fè yon gwo van soufle sou lavil Babilòn pou detwi l' ansanm ak tout moun li yo.
2 I will send a foreign army to come to get rid of Babylonia [like a strong wind] that blows away chaff. They will attack from every direction on that day of disaster.
Wi, m'ap voye etranje nan peyi a. Y'ap gaye l' tankou van k'ap bwote pay chèch, y'ap ravaje peyi a. Lè jou malè sa a va rive, y'ap soti toupatou vin tonbe sou li.
3 [I will tell them, ] ‘Do not allow the archers [of Babylon] to [have time to] put on their armor or draw their bows. Do not spare the young men of Babylon. Completely destroy their army.’
Pa bay sòlda yo chans pou yo tire banza yo, ni pou yo mete rad batay yo sou yo. Pa kite jenn gason yo chape. Touye tout lame a pou Bondye.
4 Their soldiers will fall dead in Babylonia; [they will die after being] wounded in the streets.
Nan tout peyi Babilòn lan moun ap tonbe mouri. Nan tout lari flèch ap pèse yo pak an pak.
5 [I, ] the Commander of the armies of angels, the Israelis’ God, have not abandoned Israel and Judah. [Even though] their land was full of people who sinned against [me], the Holy God of Israel, I am still their God.
Paske mwen menm, Seyè ki gen tout pouvwa a, Bondye moun peyi Izrayèl ak moun peyi Jida yo, mwen pa lage yo, atout yo koupab devan Bondye pèp Izrayèl la ki yon Bondye apa.
6 [You people of Israel and Judah, ] flee from Babylon! Run away from there! Do not stay there and be killed when I punish [the people of Babylon]! It will be the time when I will get revenge; I will do to them what they deserve.
Kouri kite lavil Babilòn! Kouri chape kò nou. Pa kite yo touye nou pou mechanste moun pa li yo. Lè a rive pou m' tire revanj mwen. M'ap pini l' pou sa li fè m' lan.
7 Babylon has been [like] [MET] a gold cup in my hand, [a cup that is full of wine] that caused people all over the earth [who drank some of it to become] drunk. [It is as though] the [rulers of] the nations drank the wine from Babylon, and it caused them to become crazy.
Babilòn te tankou yon gode fèt an lò nan men mwen. Li t'ap fè tout nasyon sou latè sou. Yo bwè nan diven l' lan, y'ap depale.
8 But suddenly Babylon will be conquered. [You foreigners who live in Babylon, ] weep for its people. Give them medicine for their wounds; perhaps they can be healed.”
Men Babilòn rete konsa li tonbe, li kraze. Plenn sò li! Chache renmèd pou doulè l' yo. Nou pa janm konnen, li ka geri.
9 We [foreigners] would have [tried to] heal them, but [now] they cannot be healed. [So we will not try to help them; ] we will abandon them, and return to our own lands, because [it is as though] the punishment they are receiving is so great that it reaches up to the clouds in sky, [so great that no one can measure it].
Etranje k'ap viv nan peyi a di konsa: Nou fè sa nou kapab pou n' geri Babilòn. Pa gen gerizon pou li. Annou kite peyi a. Ann ale, chak moun nan peyi pa yo, paske peche l' yo fè pil rive jouk nan syèl, yo pi wo pase nwaj yo.
10 Yahweh has (vindicated us/shown that we were right); [so] let’s proclaim in Jerusalem everything that Yahweh our God has done [for us].
Pèp Izrayèl la di: Seyè a fè wè kòz nou an bon, li ban nou jistis. Ann al rakonte moun lavil Jerizalèm yo sa Seyè a, Bondye nou an, fè.
11 [You enemy soldiers, ] sharpen your arrows! Lift up your shields, [because] Yahweh has incited your kings of Media [and Persia to march with their armies] to Babylon and to destroy it. That is how Yahweh will get revenge on [those foreigners who entered] his temple [in Jerusalem] and defiled it.
Bondye moute tèt tout wa peyi Medi yo, li fè yon plan pou l' detwi Babilòn. Se konsa l'ap tire revanj li pou detwi yo menm jan yo te detwi tanp li an. Fè pwent flèch yo byen pwenti! Plen sak yo flèch!
12 Lift up a battle flag close to the walls of Babylon! (Reinforce the/Appoint more) guards, and tell the watchmen to stand [in their positions]! Prepare an ambush, because Yahweh is about to accomplish all that he has planned to do to the people of Babylon.
Leve drapo a! Bay siyal pou yo atake miray Babilòn yo! Double faksyonnè yo! Mete sòlda ap veye. Pare anbiskad pou yo. Seyè a fè plan li, li fè sa li te di l'ap fè moun Babilòn yo.
13 Babylon is [a city] near the great [Euphrates] River, a city in which there are many rich people, but it is time for Babylon to be finished; the time [for the city] to exist is ended.
Nou menm ki rete nan peyi ki gen anpil rivyè a, nou menm ki gen anpil richès, men nou rive mezi bout nou! Nou fè kont nou koulye a.
14 The Commander of the armies of angels has solemnly promised, using his own name, “Your cities will be filled with your enemies; I will cause them to be like [SIM] a swarm of locusts; and they will shout triumphantly [when they conquer your city].”
Seyè ki gen tout pouvwa a fè sèman sou tèt li: li pral mennen anpil moun vin atake Babilòn, y'ap tankou yon bann krikèt. Yo pral rele, yo pral chante dèske yo kraze ou.
15 Yahweh created the earth by his power; he established it by his wisdom, and he stretched out the sky by his understanding.
Seyè a te fè latè ak fòs pouvwa li. Li kreye dènye bagay ak bon konprann li. Avèk entèlijans li, li louvri syèl la anwo latè.
16 When he speaks loudly, there is thunder in the sky; he causes clouds to form in every part of the earth. He sends lightning with the rain and releases the winds from his storehouses.
Li pase lòd, epi dlo ki anwo syèl la pran gwonde. Li fè gwo nwaj yo moute soti toupatou. Li fè zèklè yo klere pou fè lapli vini. Li fè van yo soti kote li te sere yo.
17 People are senseless, and they know very little [HYP]; those who make idols are [always] disappointed, because their idols [do nothing for them]. The images/statues that they make are not real [gods]; they are lifeless.
Lè konsa tout moun rete egare, yo pa konprann anyen. Moun k'ap fè zidòl yo wont sa yo fè a, paske bondye yo fè yo se fo bondye, yo pa gen lavi nan yo.
18 Idols are worthless; they deserve to be ridiculed; there will be a time when they will [all] be destroyed.
Yo pa vo anyen. Yo bon pou pase nan betiz. Y'ap disparèt lè Seyè a ap vin regle ak yo.
19 But the God whom [we] Israelis [worship] is not like those [idols]; he is the one who created everything [that exists]; [we], the people of Israel, belong to him; his name is ‘the Commander of the armies of angels’.
Men, Bondye Jakòb la pa tankou yo. Se li menm ki fè tout bagay. Li chwazi pèp Izrayèl la pou rele l' pa l'. Seyè ki gen tout pouvwa a, se konsa yo rele l'.
20 Yahweh says [about the army of Babylonia] (OR, [about a nation that will attack Babylonia)], “You have been [like] [MET] my battle-axe and war-club; with your [power] I have shattered nations and destroyed [many] kingdoms.
Seyè a di ankò: -Babilòn, ou te yon gwo mato nan men mwen, yon zam pou m' fè lagè. Se avè ou mwen te kraze nasyon yo. Se avè ou mwen te kraze peyi wa yo.
21 With your [power] I have shattered armies [of other nations]: I destroyed [their] horses and their riders, [their] chariots and [their] chariot-drivers.
Se avè ou mwen te kraze chwal yo ak tout kavalye yo. Se avè ou mwen te kraze cha lagè yo ak tout moun ki t'ap mennen yo.
22 With your [power] I shattered men and women, old people and children, young men and young women.
Se avè ou mwen te kraze fanm kou gason, granmoun kou timoun, jenn gason kou jenn fi.
23 With your [power] I shattered shepherds and their flocks [of sheep], farmers and their oxen, governors and [their] officials.”
Se avè ou mwen te touye bann mouton yo ak tout gadò yo. Se avè ou mwen te kraze kiltivatè yo ansanm ak tout chwal pou raboure latè. Se avè ou mwen te kraze tout chèf yo ak tout majistra yo.
24 But, Yahweh [also] says, “[Soon] I will repay/punish [you] people in Babylon and in the rest of Babylonia for all the evil things that you have done in Jerusalem.
Seyè a di ankò: -Devan je nou tout, m'ap fè lavil Babilòn ansanm ak tout pèp li a peye tout mechanste li te fè lavil Jerizalèm yo.
25 [Babylonia is] [APO] like [MET] a great mountain [from which bandits descend] to (plunder/steal things from) people all over the earth. But I, Yahweh, am the enemy of you [people of Babylonia]. I will raise my fist to strike you. I will knock you down from the cliffs and cause you to be [only] a huge pile of burned rubble.
Babilòn, ou tankou yon gwo mòn kote moun k'ap ravaje tout latè a soti. Koulye a, mwen pral regle avè ou. Mwen pral mete men sou ou. M'ap fè ou degrengole desann soti nan tèt wòch yo. M'ap fè mòn lan tounen yon gwo boukan dife.
26 Your [city] will be abandoned forever; [even] the stones in your [city] will never [again] be used for buildings. [Your city will be completely destroyed].”
Yo p'ap pran yon wòch nan ou ni pou fè fondasyon, ni pou fè kwen kay. Ou pral tounen yon dezè pou tout tan. Se mwen menm Seyè a ki di sa.
27 [Tell] the nations to lift up a battle flag! [Tell them to] shout the battle-cry! Gather all their armies to fight against Babylon! Prepare the nations to attack Babylon. Summon [the armies of] the kingdoms [north of Babylonia]—from Ararat, Minni, and Ashkenaz. Appoint a commander for them, and bring [a great number of] horses; [there must be a huge number of horses]; that [huge number] will resemble [SIM] a swarm of locusts.
Bay siyal nan tout peyi a pou yo atake. Kònen twonpèt nan tout nasyon yo. Pare tout nasyon yo pou y' al fè lagè ak Babilòn. Voye rele wa peyi Arara a, wa peyi Mini an, wa peyi Achkenaz la pou y' al atake l'. Chwazi chèf pou mennen batay la. Fè yo mennen anpil chwal ban nou pou yo menm kantite ak yon bann krikèt.
28 Prepare the [armies of other nations], armies that will be led by the kings of Media [and Persia], their governors and [their] officials.
Pare tout nasyon yo pou y' al fè lagè ak Babilòn. Voye chache wa yo k'ap gouvènen nan peyi Medi a, ansanm ak tout prefè yo, tout majistra yo, tout lame nan peyi ki sou kontwol yo.
29 [When they attack Babylon, it will be as though] the earth will shake and writhe [in pain], because [those armies] will accomplish everything that Yahweh has planned to do to Babylon; they will destroy it completely, [with the result that] no one will live there [again].
Tout latè ap tranble, l'ap souke, paske lè plan travay Seyè a rive pou l' fèt. Li pral fè Babilòn tounen yon dezè kote p'ap gen pesonn ankò.
30 [When their enemies attack], the strongest warriors in Babylon will not fight. They will remain in their barracks, without any strength. They will be as timid/weak as [SIM] women. [The enemy soldiers] will burn the buildings in the city and pull down the bars [of the city gates].
Sòlda lavil Babilòn yo derefize goumen. Yo rete kache nan fò yo. Yo pèdi tout kouraj yo, yo tankou fanm. Lènmi defonse pòtay lavil yo, yo mete dife nan kay yo.
31 Messengers will go quickly, one after another, to tell the king that his city has been captured.
Mesaje sou mesaje ap kouri brid sou kou al di wa Babilòn lan lènmi anvayi lavil li a nèt.
32 The places at which people can cross the river [to escape from the city] will be blocked. The dry reeds in the marshes/swamps will be set on fire, and the soldiers of Babylon will be terrified.
Yo bloke tout chemen yo, yo mete dife nan tout avanpòs yo, sòlda yo gaye.
33 This is what the Commander of the armies of angels, the God whom [we] Israelis [worship], says; “Babylon is like [SIM] wheat on the ground where it is about to be threshed by [animals] tramping on it. Very soon [their enemies] will trample on [the city of] Babylon [MET].”
Wi, men mesaj Seyè ki gen tout pouvwa a, Bondye pèp Izrayèl la, bay: Lavil Babilòn tankou yon glasi y'ap pare. Talè konsa yo pral kouche sòlda yo tankou grenn danre sou glasi.
34 [The army of] Nebuchadnezzar, the King of Babylon, has attacked and crushed us [Israeli people], and we have no strength [left]. [It is as though] they have swallowed us like a [great] monster that filled its belly with all our tasty parts, and then has spit out [what it did not like].
Nèbikadneza, wa peyi Babilòn lan, te devore lavil Jerizalèm, li manje l' nèt ale. Li kite peyi a vid tankou yon plat yo niche. Tankou yon gwo bèt lanmè, li vale m'. Li souse tout mwèl mwen. Lèfini, li voye rès la jete.
35 [So] the people of [PRS] Jerusalem say [to Yahweh], “Cause the people of Babylon to suffer like they caused us to suffer! Cause the people of Babylonia to be punished for killing [MTY] our people!”
Moun ki rete sou mòn Siyon yo di: Se pou lavil Babilòn peye tout lapenn ak mechanste li fè nou. Moun lavil Jerizalèm yo te mèt di: Se pou moun peyi Kalde yo peye pou tout san nou yo fè koule a.
36 And this is what Yahweh replies to the people of Jerusalem: “I will [be like your lawyer to] defend you, and I will avenge you. I will dry up the river in Babylon and [all] the springs of water.
Se konsa Seyè a pale ak moun Jerizalèm yo, li di yo: Se mwen menm k'ap pran kòz nou nan men. Mwen pran sou kont mwen pou m' fè yo peye sa yo fè nou. M'ap fè sous dlo lavil Babilòn yo cheche. P'ap gen yon tak dlo nan rivyè l' yo.
37 Babylon will become a heap of ruins, a place where jackals/wolves live. It will become a place that people are horrified about and will ridicule; it will be a place where no one lives.
Lavil Babilòn ap tounen yon pil mazi kote bèt nan bwa rete, yon dezè kote pesonn pa rete. Tout moun k'ap wè sa pral sezi, y'a mete men nan tèt.
38 The people of Babylon will [all] roar like young lions; they will growl like baby lions.
Moun Babilòn yo ap gwonde tankou lyon, y'ap griyen dan yo tankou jenn lyon.
39 But while they are extremely hungry, I will prepare a [different kind of] feast for them. [It is as though] I will cause them to drink wine until they are very drunk, [with the result that] they will fall asleep. But they will never wake up from that sleep!
Lè y'a fin chofe kont yo, mwen menm m'ap pare yon fèt pou yo. M'ap fè yo sou, m'ap fè kè yo kontan. Lèfini, yo pral dòmi yon dòmi ki p'ap janm fini, yo p'ap janm leve ankò.
40 I will bring them down to a place where they will be slaughtered, like [SIM] [someone who takes] lambs or rams or goats [to where they will be slaughtered for sacrifices].
M'ap fè mennen yo labatwa tankou yo mennen mouton, belye mouton ak bouk kabrit yo. Se mwen menm Seyè a ki di sa.
41 People all over the earth [now] (honor/praise) Babylon; they say that it is a great city. But I will cause it to become a [place about which people of all] nations are horrified.
Seyè a di konsa: -Gade! Yo pran lavil Babilòn. Yo mete men sou li, lavil ki te yon lwanj nan bouch tout moun lan. Yo fè l' tounen yon dezè nan mitan nasyon yo.
42 The [enemies of Babylon] will cover the city [like] huge waves of the sea [DOU].
Lanmè moute anvayi lavil Babilòn. Lanm lanmè yo move, yo kouvri lavil la.
43 The towns in Babylonia will become ruins, Babylonia will become a dry desert area. It will be a land in which no one lives and which no one walks through.
Tout ti bouk li yo tounen yon dezè tou, san pa gen yon gout dlo ladan yo. Se raje toupatou. Pa gen pesonn ladan yo ankò. Pesonn pa pase la non plis.
44 And I will punish Bel, [the god that the people] of Babylon [worship], and I will cause the people to give back what they have stolen [MET]. [People of other] nations will no longer come to [worship] Bel. And the walls of Babylon will collapse.”
M'ap regle Bèl, bondye Babilòn lan, m'ap fè l' rann tou sa li te vale a. Nasyon yo p'ap kouri vin nan pye l' ankò. Miray lavil Babilòn yo tonbe.
45 [Yahweh also says, ] “My people, come out of Babylon! Run away from there! Run, because [I], Yahweh, am extremely angry [MTY] [with the people of Babylon, and I will get rid of them]!
Nou menm moun pèp Izrayèl yo, kouri wete kò nou la! Chape kò nou pou nou pa pase tou, paske Seyè a move anpil sou lavil Babilòn.
46 Do not be discouraged/worried [IDM] or afraid when you hear reports [about what is happening in Babylon]. People will report rumors like that every year, rumors about violent things being done in the land, and rumors about leaders fighting against each other.
Pa dekouraje. Pa kite bri k'ap kouri nan peyi a fè nou pè. Chak lanne yo fè kouri yon kalite bri. Yon lè yo di se mechanste k'ap fèt nan peyi a, yon lòt lè yo di se chèf k'ap goumen ak chèf pou pran pouvwa a.
47 But it will soon be the time for me to get rid of the idols in Babylon. [People all over] the land will be ashamed [because of being defeated]; and the corpses of their [soldiers] will lie in the streets.
Men jou yo rive pou m' regle ak vye zidòl Babilòn yo. Tout peyi a pral wont. Yo pral touye dènye moun ladan l'.
48 Then all [the angels in] heaven and all the [people on] [PRS] the earth will rejoice, because from the north will come [armies] that will destroy Babylon.
Tout bagay nan syèl la ak sou latè a pral kontan, yo pral rele lè moun k'ap soti bò nan nò yo va vin ravaje lavil Babilòn. Se Seyè a menm ki di sa.
49 Like [the soldiers of Babylon] killed the people of Israel and [also] killed others all over the world [HYP], [the people of] Babylon must also be killed.
Babilòn te lakòz anpil moun mouri toupatou sou latè. Koulye a se Babilòn ki pral tonbe, paske li te touye anpil moun nan pèp Izrayèl la.
50 You [Israeli people] who have not been killed [MTY], get out of Babylon! Do not wait! [Even though you are in a land] far away [from Israel], think about Yahweh, and think about Jerusalem!”
51 [The Israeli people say], “We are ashamed. We are completely disgraced [DOU], because foreigners have entered Yahweh’s temple [and (defiled it/caused it to become unfit for worship)].”
Nou di: nou te wont lè nou tande jan yo t'ap joure nou. Lawont fè nou bouche figi nou, paske moun lòt nasyon yo te mete pye yo nan kote ki apa nèt pou Seyè a nan tanp lan.
52 Yahweh replies, “[That is true], but there will soon be a time when I will destroy the idols in Babylon, and throughout Babylonia there will be wounded people who will groan.
Enben, men sa Seyè a di ankò: Lè a rive, mwen pral regle avèk zidòl lavil Babilòn yo. Nan tout peyi a moun blese yo pral plenn.
53 Even if [the walls around] Babylon could extend up to the sky, and if its walls/fortifications were extremely strong, I will send [armies] that will destroy the city. [That will surely happen because I, ] Yahweh, have said it.”
Menm si Babilòn ta rive moute nan syèl pou l' ta bati yon gwo fò moun pa ka rive pran, moun m'ap voye dèyè l' yo ap jwenn li, y'ap kraze l'. Se mwen menm Seyè a ki di sa.
54 Listen to [the people of] Babylon crying [for help]! And listen to the sounds of things being destroyed all over Babylonia!
Seyè a di ankò: -Yon sèl rèl pete lavil Babilòn. Bri kouri yon gwo malè tonbe sou tout peyi a.
55 Yahweh will be destroying Babylon. He will cause the loud noises in the city to cease.
Se mwen menm Seyè a k'ap detwi lavil Babilòn. Mwen fè l' pe bouch li. Menm si lavil Babilòn t'ap fè bri tankou lanmè lè li move, m'ap fè l' sispann rele.
56 Enemy troops will surge against the city like [SIM] a great wave. They will capture the city’s mighty soldiers and break their weapons. [That will happen] because Yahweh is a God who punishes [his enemies] justly; he will punish them as they deserve.
Wi, lènmi ap vin detwi lavil Babilòn. Y'ap mete men sou sòlda li yo. L'ap kraze tout banza yo. Mwen menm, Seyè a, mwen se yon Bondye k'ap pini moun ki fè sa ki mal. M'ap fè yo peye pou sa yo fè.
57 The king, the Commander of the armies of angels says, “I will cause the city officials and wise men, the army captains and soldiers [in Babylon] to become drunk. They will fall asleep, but they will never wake up [again]!”
58 Yahweh also says, “The thick walls around Babylon will be flattened to the ground. The city gates will be burned. People [from other countries] will work hard [to save the city], but it will be (in vain/useless), because everything [that they have built] will be destroyed by fire.”
Men sa Seyè ki gen tout pouvwa a di ankò: -Yo kraze gwo miray lavil Babilòn lan ratè. Yo boule gwo pòtay byen wo li yo. Pèp yo te travay pou gremesi. Tou sa yo te bat kò yo fè a tounen sann dife.
59 Seraiah was the man who made arrangements for the King of Babylon [whenever he traveled]. He was the son of Neraiah and grandson of Mahseiah. When he was about to go to Babylon with King Zedekiah, after Zedekiah had been ruling Judah for almost four years, the prophet Jeremiah gave him a message.
Men lòd pwofèt Jeremi te bay Seraja.
60 Jeremiah had written on a scroll a list of all the disasters that he had written about, disasters that would soon occur in Babylon.
Jeremi te ekri nan yon liv tout malè ki gen pou tonbe sou lavil Babilòn ansanm ak tout lòt bagay li te di sou lavil la.
61 He said to Seraiah, “When you arrive in Babylon, read [aloud] everything that I have written [on this scroll].
Jeremi di Seraja konsa: -Lè w'a rive lavil Babilòn, pa bliye se pou ou li tou sa ki ekri nan liv la.
62 Then pray, ‘Yahweh, you said that you will thoroughly destroy Babylon, with the result that people and animals will no [longer] live there. You said that it will be desolate forever.’
Apre sa w'a di: Seyè! Ou te di ou gen pou detwi peyi sa a pou pa gen yon sèl moun ni yon sèl bèt rete ladan l' ankò. Ou te di peyi a gen pou tounen yon dezè pou tout tan!
63 [Then], when you have finished reading [what I have written on] the scroll, tie it to a [heavy] stone and throw it into the Euphrates [River].
Lè w'a fin li liv sa a, w'a mare l' sou yon wòch, w'a voye l' jete nan mitan larivyè Lefrat.
64 Then say, ‘In the same way, Babylon [and its people] will disappear and never exist again, because of the disasters that Yahweh will cause to occur there’” That is the end of Jeremiah’s messages.
Apre sa, w'a di: Se konsa lavil Babilòn lan pral koule, li p'ap janm ka leve ankò apre malè mwen menm Seyè a, mwen pral voye sou li a. Se isit la pawòl pwofèt Jeremi yo fini.
