< Jeremiah 21 >

1 Yahweh gave me another message when King Zedekiah [of Judah] sent [a man who was also named] Pashhur, the son of Malkijah, and a priest named Zephaniah, the son of Maaseiah, [to talk to me. They pleaded with me], saying,
Ko e folofola naʻe hoko kia Selemaia meia Sihova, ʻi he fekau kiate ia ʻe he tuʻi ko Setikia ʻa Pasuli ko e foha ʻo Malikia, mo Sefania ko e foha ʻo Māseia ko e taulaʻeiki, ʻo pehē,
2 “[The army of] King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon is attacking Judah. Please speak to Yahweh for us. [Ask him if he will help us]. Perhaps he will force Nebuchadnezzar’s [army] to leave by performing a miracle for us, like the miracles he performed [previously].”
“ʻOku ou kole kiate koe, ke ke hūfia ʻakimautolu kia Sihova; he ʻoku teu tau kiate kimautolu ʻa Nepukanesa ko e tuʻi ʻo Papilone; heiʻilo ʻe fai ʻe Sihova kiate kitautolu ʻo hangē ko ʻene ngaahi ngāue fakaofo kotoa pē, koeʻuhi ke ne ʻalu atu ʻiate kitautolu.”
3 I replied to them, “[Go back to King] Zedekiah. Tell him,
Pea naʻe toki lea ʻa Selemaia kiate kinautolu, Te mou lea pehē kia Setikia:
4 ‘This is what Yahweh, the God whom [we] Israelis [worship], says: “I will cause your weapons to be useless in fighting against the king of Babylon and his army that is outside the walls of Jerusalem, attacking. I will enable them to enter into the center of this city.
‌ʻOku pehē ʻe Sihova ko e ʻOtua ʻo ʻIsileli; “Vakai, te u fakatafoki ʻae ngaahi meʻa tau ʻoku ʻi homou nima, ʻaia ʻoku mou tau ʻaki ki he tuʻi ʻo Papilone, mo e kau Kalitia, ʻakinautolu ʻoku tauʻi ʻakimoutolu mei tuaʻā, pea te u fakataha ʻakinautolu ki loto kolo ni.
5 I myself will fight against your [army] with my very great power, [MTY, DOU] because I am very angry with you.
Pea ko au te u tauʻi kimoutolu ʻaki ʻae nima mafao atu pea mo e nima mālohi, ʻio, ʻi he ʻita, pea mo e houhau kakaha, pea mo e tuputāmaki lahi.
6 I will send a very (terrible plague/big sickness) on the people of this city, and on their domestic animals, and [many of] them will die.”
Pea te u taaʻi ʻae kakai ʻoe kolo ni, ko e tangata mo e manu: pea te nau mate ʻi he mahaki fakaʻauha.
7 And Yahweh says there are many people in this city who want to kill you. So, he will enable [the army of] King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon and other people in this city to capture [you], King Zedekiah, and your officials, and [all the other] people who do not die from the plague. His army will slaughter your soldiers; they will not act mercifully toward you(pl) or pity you at all. [DOU]’
‌ʻOku pehē ʻe Sihova, Hili ia te u tukuange ʻa Setikia ko e tuʻi ʻo Siuta, mo ʻene kau tamaioʻeiki, pea mo e kakai, pea mo kinautolu ʻi he kolo kuo hao mei he mahaki fakaʻauha, mo e heletā, pea mo e honge, ki he nima ʻo Nepukanesa ko e tuʻi ʻo Papilone, pea ki he nima ʻo honau ngaahi fili, pea ki honau nima ʻoku kumi ʻenau moʻui: pea te nau taaʻi ʻakinautolu ʻaki ʻae mata ʻoe heletā: ʻe ʻikai te ne ʻofa kiate kinautolu, pea ʻe ʻikai te ne fakamoʻui, pea ʻe ʻikai te ne fai ʻaloʻofa.”
8 And tell this to [all] the people: ‘Yahweh says that you must decide whether you want to die or to remain alive.
‌ʻOku pehē ʻe Sihova, ke ke pehē ki he kakai ni, “Vakai ʻoku tuku ʻi homou ʻao ʻae hala ki he moʻui, pea mo e hala ki he mate.
9 Everyone who remains in Jerusalem will die. They will be killed in battles or die from being hungry or from diseases. But those who surrender to the army of Babylon that is surrounding your city will remain alive. They will escape dying.
Ko ia ʻoku nofo ʻi he kolo ni te ne mate ʻi he heletā, pea ʻi he honge, pea ʻi he mahaki fakaʻauha: ka ko ia ʻoku ʻalu kituʻa ʻā ʻo hola ki he kau Kalitia, ʻakinautolu ʻoku kāpui ʻakimoutolu, te ne moʻui, pea ʻe ʻiate ia ʻene moʻui ʻo hangē ko e koloa.
10 [That will happen] because I, Yahweh, have decided to cause this city to experience disasters, not to experience something good. The army of the king of Babylon will capture this city and will destroy it [completely] by fire.’”
He ʻoku pehē ʻe Sihova, kuo u hanga ki he kolo ni, ke fakahoko ki ai ʻae kovi, kae ʻikai ko e lelei: ʻe tukuange ia ki he nima ʻoe tuʻi ʻo Papilone, pea te ne tutu ia ʻaki ʻae afi.”
11 [Yahweh also told me to] say this to the family of the king of Judah: “Listen to this message from Yahweh!
Pea ko e meʻa ʻoku kau ki he fale ʻoe tuʻi ʻo Siuta, Mou fanongo ki he folofola ʻa Sihova.
12 This is what he says to you descendants of King David: ‘Every day, make fair decisions for the people whom you judge. Help those who have been robbed. Rescue/Save them from those [SYN] who (oppress them/treat them cruelly). If you do not do that, I will be angry and punish [MTY] you with a fire that will be impossible to extinguish, because of [all] the sins that you have committed.
‌ʻE fale ʻo Tevita, ʻoku pehē ʻe Sihova; Fai fakatoʻotoʻo ʻae fakamaau, pea fakamoʻui ia kuo fakamālohia mei he nima ʻoe fakamālohi, telia naʻa ʻalu atu ʻa ʻeku houhau kakaha ʻo hangē ko e afi ʻo vela, pea ʻe ʻikai ha taha ʻe faʻa fuʻifuʻi ia, koeʻuhi ko e kovi ʻo hoʻomou ngaahi faianga.
13 I will fight against you people [of Jerusalem], you who live on top of a rocky hill above the valley. [I will fight against] you people who boast, saying, “No one can attack us and break through [our defenses].”
‌ʻOku pehē ʻe Sihova, “Vakai, ʻoku ou fai mo koe, ʻa koe ʻoku ke nofo ʻi he teleʻa, pea mo e maka ʻi he toafa; ʻakimoutolu ʻoku pehē, ko hai ʻe tauʻi ʻakimautolu? Pe ko hai ʻe hū ki homau nofoʻanga?”
14 I will punish you for your wicked deeds like you deserve to be punished; [It will be as though] I will light a fire in your forests that will burn up everything around you!’”
