Genesis 39

1 Meanwhile, the descendants of Ishmael took Joseph down to Egypt. There Potiphar bought Joseph from them. Potiphar was an Egyptian who was one of the king’s officials and the captain of the king’s (palace guards/guards who protected the king).

Und Joseph wurde nach Ägypten hinabgeführt; und Potiphar, ein Kämmerer des Pharao, der Oberste der Leibwache, ein ägyptischer Mann, kaufte ihn aus der Hand der Ismaeliter, die ihn dorthin hinabgeführt hatten.

2 Because Yahweh helped Joseph, he was able to do his work very well, and lived in the house of his Egyptian master.

Und Jehova war mit Joseph, und er war ein Mann, dem alles gelang; und er war im Hause seines Herrn, des Ägypters.

3 His master saw that Yahweh was helping Joseph and enabling him to be successful in everything that he did.

Und sein Herr sah, daß Jehova mit ihm war und daß Jehova alles, was er tat, in seiner Hand gelingen ließ.

4 Joseph’s master was pleased with him, so he appointed him to be his personal servant. Then he appointed him to be the one who would take care of everything in his household and all of his possessions.

Und Joseph fand Gnade in seinen Augen und diente ihm; und er bestellte ihn über sein Haus, und alles, was er hatte, gab er in seine Hand.

5 From the time Potiphar appointed Joseph to take care of everything in his household and all that he owned, Yahweh blessed the people who lived in Potiphar’s house because of Joseph. He also caused Potiphar’s crops to grow well.

Und es geschah, seitdem er ihn über sein Haus bestellt und über alles, was er hatte, daß Jehova das Haus des Ägypters segnete um Josephs willen; und der Segen Jehovas war auf allem, was er hatte, im Hause und auf dem Felde.

6 Potiphar allowed Joseph to take care of everything that he owned. Potiphar needed to decide only about the food he ate. He was not concerned about anything else in his house. Joseph was well-built/muscular and handsome.

Und er überließ alles, was er hatte, der Hand Josephs und kümmerte sich um gar nichts bei ihm, außer um das Brot, das er aß. Und Joseph war schön von Gestalt und schön von Angesicht.

7 Because of that, after a while, his master’s wife started to look fondly at Joseph. So one day she said to him, “Have sex [EUP] with me!”

Und es geschah nach diesen Dingen, da warf das Weib seines Herrn ihre Augen auf Joseph und sprach: Liege bei mir!

8 But he refused, saying to his master’s wife, “Listen! My master is not concerned about anything in this house. He has appointed me to take care of everything that he owns.

Er aber weigerte sich und sprach zu dem Weibe seines Herrn: Siehe, mein Herr kümmert sich um nichts bei mir im Hause; und alles, was er hat, hat er in meine Hand gegeben.

9 No one in this household has more authority than I do. The only thing that he has not allowed me to have is you, because you are his wife! So (how could I do this wicked thing [that you are asking me to do]?/I certainly could not do this wicked thing!) [RHQ] I would be sinning against God if I did that!”

Niemand ist größer in diesem Hause als ich, und er hat mir gar nichts vorenthalten als nur dich, indem du sein Weib bist; und wie sollte ich dieses große Übel tun und wider Gott sündigen?

10 She kept on asking Joseph day after day to have sex [EUP] with her, but he refused. He would not even go near her.

Und es geschah, als sie Joseph Tag für Tag ansprach und er nicht auf sie hörte, bei ihr zu liegen, bei ihr zu sein,

11 One day Joseph went into the house to do his work, and none of the other household servants were in the house.

da geschah es an einem solchen Tage, daß er ins Haus ging, um sein Geschäft zu besorgen, und kein Mensch von den Leuten des Hauses war daselbst im Hause;

12 Potiphar’s wife grabbed his cloak and said, “Have sex [EUP] with me!” Joseph ran out of the house, but his cloak was still in her hand!

und sie ergriff ihn bei seinem Kleide und sprach: Liege bei mir! Er aber ließ sein Kleid in ihrer Hand und floh und lief hinaus.

13 When she saw that he had run outside leaving his cloak in her hand,

Und es geschah, als sie sah, daß er sein Kleid in ihrer Hand gelassen hatte und hinausgeflohen war,

14 she called the household servants. She said to them, “Look! This Hebrew man that my husband brought to us is (insulting/trying to do something disgraceful to) us! He came into my room and tried to (rape me/make me have sex [EUP] with him), but I screamed loudly.

da rief sie den Leuten ihres Hauses und sprach zu ihnen und sagte: Sehet, er hat uns einen hebräischen Mann hergebracht, um Spott mit uns zu treiben. Er ist zu mir gekommen, um bei mir zu liegen, und ich habe mit lauter Stimme gerufen.

15 As soon as he heard me scream loudly, he left his loincloth with me and ran outside!”

Und es geschah, als er hörte, daß ich meine Stimme erhob und rief, da ließ er sein Kleid neben mir und floh und ging hinaus.

16 She kept the loincloth beside her until her husband, Joseph’s master, came home.

Und sie legte sein Kleid neben sich, bis sein Herr nach Hause kam.

17 Then she told him this story: “That Hebrew slave whom you brought here came into my room and tried to rape me!

Und sie redete zu ihm nach diesen Worten und sprach: Der hebräische Knecht, den du uns hergebracht hast, ist zu mir gekommen, um Spott mit mir zu treiben;

18 As soon as I screamed loudly, he ran outside, leaving me holding his loincloth!”

und es geschah, als ich meine Stimme erhob und rief, da ließ er sein Kleid neben mir und floh hinaus.

19 When Joseph’s master heard this story that his wife told him, saying “This is how your slave treated me,” he was very angry.

Und es geschah, als sein Herr die Worte seines Weibes hörte, die sie zu ihm redete, indem sie sprach: Nach diesen Worten hat mir dein Knecht getan, da entbrannte sein Zorn.

20 Joseph’s master took Joseph and put him in prison, the place where all the king’s prisoners were put, and Joseph stayed there.

Und Josephs Herr nahm ihn und legte ihn in die Feste, an den Ort, wo die Gefangenen des Königs gefangen lagen; und er war daselbst in der Feste.

21 But Yahweh was kind to Joseph and helped him, and caused the (prison warden/man who was in charge of the prison) to be pleased with him.

Und Jehova war mit Joseph und wandte ihm Güte zu und gab ihm Gnade in den Augen des Obersten der Feste.

22 So the prison warden put Joseph in charge of all those who were in the prison, and in charge of all the work that was done there.

Und der Oberste der Feste übergab alle Gefangenen, die in der Feste waren, der Hand Josephs; und alles, was daselbst zu tun war, das tat er.

23 The warden was not concerned with anything that Joseph was taking care of, because Yahweh helped Joseph to do well everything that he did.

Der Oberste der Feste sah nicht nach dem Geringsten, das unter seiner Hand war, weil Jehova mit ihm war; und was er tat, ließ Jehova gelingen.
