Genesis 36
1 (Here is/I will now give you) a list of the descendants of Esau, whose other name was Edom.
Und dies sind die Geschlechter Esaus, das ist Edom.
2 Esau married three women from the Canaan region: Adah, the daughter of Elon from the Heth people-group; Oholibamah, who was the daughter of Anah and granddaughter of Zibeon from the Hiv people-group;
Esau nahm seine Weiber von den Töchtern Kanaans: Ada, die Tochter Elons, des Hethiters, und Oholibama, die Tochter Anas, der Tochter Zibeons, des Hewiters,
3 and Basemath, who was the daughter of Ishmael and sister of Nebaioth.
und Basmath, die Tochter Ismaels, die Schwester Nebajoths.
4 Esau’s wife Adah gave birth to Eliphaz. Basemath gave birth to Reuel.
Und Ada gebar dem Esau Eliphas, und Basmath gebar Reghuel.
5 Oholibamah gave birth to Jeush, Jalam, and Korah. All these sons of Esau were born while he was living in the Canaan region.
Und Oholibama gebar Jeghusch und Jaghlam und Korach. Das sind die Söhne Esaus, welche ihm im Lande Kanaan geboren wurden.
6 Jacob and Esau had very many possessions. The result was that they needed more land for their livestock. The land where they were living was not big enough for both of them. They had too much livestock. So Esau, whose other name was Edom, had taken his wives and sons and daughters and all the other members of his household, his sheep and goats and his other animals, and all the other things he had obtained in Canaan land, and they had moved to an area that was away from Jacob.
Und Esau nahm seine Weiber und seine Söhne und seine Töchter und alle Seelen seines Hauses, und seine Herden und all sein Vieh und all sein Besitztum, das er im Lande Kanaan erworben hatte, und zog in ein Land, von seinem Bruder Jakob hinweg.
Denn ihre Habe war zu groß, daß sie hätten beieinander wohnen können, und das Land ihres Aufenthaltes vermochte sie nicht zu tragen wegen ihrer Herden.
8 They went to live in the Seir hilly area.
Und Esau wohnte auf dem Gebirge Seir. Esau, das ist Edom.
9 (Here is/I will now give you) another list of the male descendants of Esau. He was the ancestor of the Edom people-group who live in the Seir area.
Und dies sind die Geschlechter Esaus, des Vaters von Edom, auf dem Gebirge Seir.
10 Esau’s wife Adah gave birth to Eliphaz, and Esau’s wife Basemath gave birth to Reuel.
Dies sind die Namen der Söhne Esaus: Eliphas, der Sohn Adas, des Weibes Esaus; Reghuel, der Sohn Basmaths, des Weibes Esaus.
11 The sons of Eliphaz were Teman, Omar, Zepho, Gatam, and Kenaz.
Und die Söhne des Eliphas waren: Teman, Omar, Zepho und Gaetam und Kenas.
12 Esau’s son Eliphaz also had a (concubine/female slave whom he took as a secondary wife). Her name was Timna. She gave birth to Amalek. Those six men were grandsons of Esau’s wife Adah.
Und Timna war das Kebsweib des Eliphas, des Sohnes Esaus, und sie gebar dem Eliphas Amalek. Das sind die Söhne Adas, des Weibes Esaus.
13 Reuel’s sons were Nahath, Zerah, Shammah, and Mizzah. They were grandsons of Esau’s wife Basemath.
Und dies sind die Söhne Reghuels: Nachath und Serach, Schamma und Missa. Das waren die Söhne Basmaths, des Weibes Esaus.
14 Esau’s wife Oholibamah, who was the daughter of Anah and granddaughter of Zibeon, gave birth to three sons: Jeush, Jalam, and Korah.
Und dies waren die Söhne Oholibamas, der Tochter Anas, der Tochter Zibeons, des Weibes Esaus: sie gebar dem Esau Jeghusch, Jaghlam und Korach.
15 (Here is/I will now give you) a list of the people-groups who were descendants of Esau. His oldest son Eliphaz was the ancestor of the Teman people-group, the Omar people-group, the Zepho people-group, the Kenaz people-group,
Dies sind die Fürsten der Söhne Esaus: Die Söhne Eliphas', des Erstgeborenen Esaus: der Fürst Teman, der Fürst Omar, der Fürst Zepho, der Fürst Kenas,
16 the Korah people-group, the Gatam people-group, and the Amalek people-group. They were descendants of Eliphaz and of Esau’s wife Adah. They lived in the Edom region.
der Fürst Korach, der Fürst Gaetam, der Fürst Amalek. Das sind die Fürsten des Eliphas im Lande Edom; das sind die Söhne Adas.
17 The sons of Esau’s son Reuel were ancestors of the Nahath, Zerah, Shammah, and Mizzah people-groups. They were descended from Esau’s wife Basemath. They also lived in Edom.
Und dies sind die Söhne Reghuels, des Sohnes Esaus: der Fürst Nachath, der Fürst Serach, der Fürst Schamma, der Fürst Missa. Das sind die Fürsten des Reghuel im Lande Edom; das sind die Söhne Basmaths, des Weibes Esaus.
18 The sons of Esau’s wife Oholibamah, whose mother was Anah, were ancestors of the Jeush, Jalam, and Korah people-groups.
Und dies sind die Söhne Oholibamas, des Weibes Esaus: der Fürst Jeghusch, der Fürst Jaghlam, der Fürst Korach. Das sind die Fürsten Oholibamas, der Tochter Anas, des Weibes Esaus.
19 That is the list of the sons of Esau, and the people-groups who were their descendants.
Das sind die Söhne Esaus und das ihre Fürsten; das ist Edom.
20 (This is/I will now give you) a list of the descendants of Seir, who belonged to the Hor people-group, who were the first people-group who lived in the Edom region: Lotan, Shobal, Zibeon, Anah,
Das sind die Söhne Seirs, des Horiters, die Bewohner des Landes: Lotan und Schobal und Zibeon und Ana und Dischon und Ezer und Dischan.
21 Dishon, Ezer, and Dishan. Those seven men became ancestors of people-groups. Each of the people-groups had the same name as the name of their ancestor.
Das sind die Fürsten der Horiter, der Söhne Seirs, im Lande Edom.
22 The sons of Lotan were Hori and Heman and Lotan’s sister was Timna.
Und die Söhne Lotans waren: Hori und Hemam, und die Schwester Lotans: Timna.
23 The sons of Shobal were Alvan, Manahath, Ebal, Shepho, and Onam.
Und dies sind die Söhne Schobals: Alwan und Manachath und Ebal, Schepho und Onam.
24 The sons of Zibeon were Aiah and Anah. This Anah was the one who discovered the hot springs in the desert while he was taking care of his father Zibeon’s donkeys.
Und dies sind die Söhne Zibeons: Aja und Ana. Das ist der Ana, welcher die warmen Quellen in der Wüste fand, als er die Esel Zibeons, seines Vaters, weidete.
25 Anah had two children—a son named Dishon and a daughter named Oholibamah.

26 Dishon’s sons were Hemdan, Eshban, Ithran, and Keran.
Und dies sind die Söhne Dischons: Hemdan und Eschban und Jithran und Keran.
27 Ezer’s sons were Bilhan, Zaavan, and Akan.
Dies sind die Söhne Ezers: Bilhan und Saawan und Akan.
28 Dishan’s sons were Uz and Aran.
Dies sind die Söhne Dischans: Uz und Aran.
29 The people-groups who were descendants of Hor lived in the Seir/Edom region. The names of the people-groups are Lotan, Shobal, Zibeon, Anah, Dishon, Ezer, and Dishan.
Dies sind die Fürsten der Horiter: der Fürst Lotan, der Fürst Schobal, der Fürst Zibeon, der Fürst Ana,
der Fürst Dischon, der Fürst Ezer, der Fürst Dischan. Das sind die Fürsten der Horiter, nach ihren Fürsten im Lande Seir.
31 These are the names of the kings who ruled in Edom before any kings ruled over Israel.
Und dies sind die Könige, die im Lande Edom regiert haben, ehe ein König über die Kinder Israel regierte:
32 Beor’s son Bela became the first king in Edom. The city where he lived was named Dinhabah.
Bela, der Sohn Beors, wurde König in Edom, und der Name seiner Stadt war Dinhaba.
33 When Bela died, Zerah’s son Jobab/became the king. He was from Bozrah [city].
Und Bela starb; und es ward König an seiner Statt Jobab, der Sohn Serachs, aus Bozra.
34 When Jobab died, Husham became the king. He was from the region where the Teman people-group lived.
Und Jobab starb; und es ward König an seiner Statt Huscham, aus dem Lande der Temaniter.
35 When Husham died, Bedad’s son Hadan became the king. Husham’s army fought the army of the Midian people-group in the Moab region and defeated them. The city where Husham lived was Avith.
Und Huscham starb; und es ward König an seiner Statt Hadad, der Sohn Bedads, welcher Midian schlug im Gefilde Moabs; und der Name seiner Stadt war Awith.
36 When Hadad died, Samlah became the king. He was from Masrekah [town].
Und Hadad starb; und es ward König an seiner Statt Samla aus Masreka.
37 When Samlah died, Shaul became the king. He was from Rehoboth [town] along the [Euphrates] river.
Und Samla starb; und es ward König an seiner Statt Saul aus Rechoboth am Strome.
38 When Shaul died, Achbor’s son Baal-Hanan became king.
Und Saul starb, und es ward König an seiner Statt Baal-Hanan, der Sohn Akbors.
39 When Achbor’s son Baal-Hanan died, Hadad became king. The city where he lived was named Pau. His wife’s name was Mehetabel. She was the daughter of Matred, who was the daughter of Me-Zahab.
Und Baal-Hanan, der Sohn Akbors, starb; und es ward König an seiner Statt Hadar; und der Name seiner Stadt war Paghu, und der Name seines Weibes Mehetabeel, die Tochter Matreds, der Tochter Mesahabs.
40 (Here is/I will now give you) a list of all the people-groups that were descendants of Esau: Timna, Alvah, Jetheth, Oholibamah, Elah, Pinon, Kenaz, Teman, Mibzar, Magdiel, and Iram. They all lived in the Edom region. The land where each people-group lived got the same name as the name of the people-group.
Und dies sind die Namen der Fürsten Esaus, nach ihren Familien, nach ihren Ortschaften, mit ihren Namen: der Fürst Timna, der Fürst Alwa, der Fürst Jetheth,
der Fürst Oholibama, der Fürst Ela, der Fürst Pinon,
der Fürst Kenas, der Fürst Teman, der Fürst Mibzar,
der Fürst Magdiel, der Fürst Iram. Das sind die Fürsten von Edom nach ihren Wohnsitzen, im Lande ihres Eigentums. Das ist Esau, der Vater Edoms.
