< Exodus 8 >

1 Then Yahweh said to Moses/me, “Go back to the king and tell him, ‘Yahweh says that you must let my people go, in order that they can worship me [in the desert].
Pea naʻe folofola ʻa Sihova kia Mōsese, “ʻAlu kia Felo mo ke tala kiate ia, ʻOku pehē mai ʻe Sihova, Tukuange hoku kakai ke ʻalu, koeʻuhi ke nau tauhi au.
2 But if you refuse to let them go, I will punish you by sending frogs to cover your country.
Pea kapau ʻe ʻikai te ke tukuange ʻakinautolu ke ʻalu, vakai, Te u taaʻi ho ngaahi potu fonua kotoa pē ʻaki ʻae fanga poto:
3 [Not only] will the Nile [River] be full of frogs, [but] the frogs will come up [out of the river] into your palace. They will come into your bedroom and onto your bed. They will be in the houses of your officials and all [the rest of] your people. They will even get into your ovens and your pans for mixing the materials for baking bread.
4 The frogs will jump up on you and your officials and [all the rest of] your people.’”
Pea ʻe haʻu ʻae fanga poto ʻo hoko kiate koe, pea ki ho kakai, pea ki hoʻo kau tamaioʻeiki kotoa pē.”
5 Yahweh [also] said to Moses/me, “Say this to Aaron: ‘Hold your stick in your hand and stretch it out [as though you were stretching it] over the river, the canals, and over the pools, and cause frogs to come up [from all this water and] cover the land of Egypt.’”
Pea naʻe folofola ʻa Sihova kia Mōsese, “Tala kia ʻElone, Mafao atu ho nima, mo hoʻo tokotoko ki he ngaahi vaitafe siʻi mo e vai tafe lahi, mo e ngaahi luo vai, koeʻuhi ke haʻu ai ʻae fanga poto ki he fonua ko ʻIsipite.”
6 [After Moses/I told that to] Aaron, he stretched out his hand [as though he were stretching it] over all the water in Egypt. And the frogs came up [from the water and] covered Egypt.
Pea naʻe mafao atu ʻe ʻElone hono nima ki he ngaahi vai ʻo ʻIsipite; pea naʻe ʻalu hake ʻae fanga poto ʻo ʻufiʻufi ʻae fonua ko ʻIsipite,
7 But the men who performed magic did the same thing, and they caused [more] frogs to come up [from the water onto the land].
Pea naʻe fai pehē ʻe he kau fie mana ʻaki ʻenau ngaahi ngāue fakalilolilo, ʻonau ʻomi ʻae fanga poto ki he fonua ko ʻIsipite.
8 Then the king summoned Moses/me and said, “Ask Yahweh to take away these frogs from me and my people. After that happens, I will allow your people to go, in order that they can offer sacrifices to Yahweh.”
Pea naʻe fekau ʻe Felo ke haʻu ʻa Mōsese mo ʻElone, ʻo ne pehē, “Mo kole kia Sihova, koeʻuhi ke ne ʻave ʻiate au mo hoku kakai ʻae fanga poto: pea te u tukuange ʻae kakai ke ʻalu, koeʻuhi ke nau fai ʻae feilaulau kia Sihova.”
9 Moses/I said to the king, “I will be glad to pray for you and for your officials and for [the rest of] your people. [I will ask Yahweh] to get rid of the frogs from all your houses. The only frogs left will be [those] in the Nile [River]. Just tell me when I should pray.”
Pea pehēange ʻe Mōsese kia Felo, “Ke ke fekau kiate au, pe te u fai fakakū ʻae hū, koeʻuhi ko koe, mo hoʻo kau tamaioʻeiki, pea mo ho kakai, ke fakaʻauha ʻae fanga poto meiate koe mo ho ngaahi fale koeʻuhi ke nau nofo pe ki he vaitafe?”
10 He replied, “Tomorrow.” So Moses/I said, “[I will do] what you say, and then you will know that Yahweh God, the one we [worship, is the only true god], and that there is no other god like him.
11 The frogs will leave you and your officials and all [the rest of] your people. The only ones left will be in the Nile [River].”
Pea ʻe ʻalu meiate koe ʻae fanga poto, pea mei ho ngaahi fale, pea mei hoʻo kau tamaioʻeiki, pea mei ho kakai: te nau nofo pe ʻi he vaitafe.”
12 Aaron and Moses/I left the king. Then Moses/I prayed to Yahweh, [asking him to take away] all the frogs he had [brought to the king’s land].
Pea naʻe ʻalu ʻa Mōsese mo ʻElone mei he ʻao ʻo Felo: pea naʻe tangi ʻa Mōsese kia Sihova ko e meʻa ʻi he fanga poto, ʻaia naʻa ne ʻomi kia Felo.
13 And Yahweh did just what Moses/I [asked him to do]. As a result, all the frogs in the houses, in their courtyards, and in the fields died.
Pea naʻe fai ʻe Sihova ʻo hangē ko e lea ʻa Mōsese; pea naʻe mate ai ʻae fanga poto mei he ngaahi fale, mo e ngaahi potu kakai, pea mei he ngaahi ngoue.
14 The people gathered together all the dead frogs into big piles, and the land stank [from the smell].
Pea naʻa nau tānaki fakataha ia ki he ngaahi fokotuʻunga: pea naʻe namuhāhā ai ʻae fonua.
15 But when the king saw that [the problem] was ended, he became stubborn [IDM] [again]. And just as Yahweh had predicted, he would not pay attention to what Aaron and Moses/we told him.
Pea kuo mamata ʻa Felo ʻoku ai ʻae fiefiemālie, naʻa ne fakafefeka ʻa hono loto, ʻo ne taʻetokanga kiate kinaua; ʻo hangē ko e folofola ʻa Sihova.
16 Then Yahweh said to Moses/me, “Tell Aaron to strike the ground with his stick. [When he does that], all the fine particles of ground/dust will become gnats, all over the land of Egypt.”
Pea naʻe folofola ʻa Sihova kia Mōsese, “Tala kia ʻElone, Mafao atu ho tokotoko, ʻo taaʻi ʻaki ia ʻae efu ʻoe fonua, koeʻuhi ke hoko ia ko e fanga kutu ʻi he fonua kotoa pē ʻo ʻIsipite.”
17 So they/we did that. Aaron struck the ground with his stick, and all over Egypt, the fine particles of ground/dirt became gnats. The gnats covered the people and all [their] animals.
Pea naʻa na fai ia; he naʻe mafao atu ʻe ʻElone hono nima mo e tokotoko, ʻo ne taaʻi ʻae efu ʻoe kelekele, pea naʻe liliu ia ko e kutu ʻi he tangata mo e manu; ko e efu kotoa pē ʻoe fonua naʻe hoko ia ko e fanga kutu ʻi he fonua kotoa pē ʻo ʻIsipite.
18 The men who worked magic tried to cause gnats to appear, but they were unable to do it. So the gnats [stayed] on the Egyptian people and on their animals.
Pea naʻe fai ʻe he kau fie mana ke fakatupu ʻae kutu ʻaki ʻenau ngāue fakalilolilo ka naʻe ʻikai te nau lavaʻi: pea naʻe ai ʻae kutu ʻi he tangata mo e manu.
19 The men who worked magic said to the king, “It is God who has done this with his power [MTY]!” But the king continued to be stubborn [IDM], and he would not pay attention to us, just as Yahweh had predicted.
Pea pehē ai ʻe he kau fie mana kia Felo, “Ko e louhiʻi nima eni ʻoe ʻOtua:” ka kuo fefeka ʻae loto ʻo Felo, pea naʻe ʻikai tokanga ia kiate kinaua; ʻo hangē ko e folofola ʻa Sihova.
20 Then Yahweh said to Moses/me, “Get up early [tomorrow] morning. [Go down] to the river and wait for the king. [When he comes to bathe] [MTY], say to him, ‘This is what Yahweh says to you: “Let my people go, in order that they may worship me [in the desert].
Pea naʻe folofola ʻa Sihova kia Mōsese, “Tuʻu hengihengi hake ʻapongipongi, ʻo tuʻu ʻi he ʻao ʻo Felo; vakai, ʻoku haʻu ia ki he vai; ʻo tala kiate ia, ʻoku pehē mai ʻa Sihova, ‘Tukuange hoku kakai ke ʻalu, koeʻuhi ke nau tauhi au.
21 [I warn you that] if you do not let my people go, I will send swarms of flies to you. They will come down on you and on your officials and on [the rest of] your people. The houses of all you Egyptians will be full of flies. They will [even] cover the ground.
Pea kapau ʻe ʻikai te ke tukuange hoku kakai, vakai, te u fekau ʻae ngaahi fuifui lango kehekehe kiate koe, pea ki hoʻo kau tamaioʻeiki, pea ki ho kakai, pea ki ho ngaahi fale: pea ko e ngaahi fale ʻoe kakai ʻIsipite ʻe fonu ʻi he ngaahi fuifui lango, pea mo e kelekele foki ʻoku nau tuʻu ai.
22 But when that happens, I will treat the Goshen region, where my people live, differently. There will be no swarms of flies there. In that way, you will know that I, Yahweh, am doing these things [here] in this land.
Pea te u vaheʻi ʻi he ʻaho ko ia ʻae fonua ko Koseni, ʻaia ʻoku nofo ai hoku kakai, ʻe ʻikai ha fuifui lango ʻi ai; koeʻuhi ke ke ʻilo ai ko au ko Sihova ʻi he lotolotonga ʻo māmani.
23 I will distinguish clearly between [how I act toward] my people and [how I act toward] your people. And this plague is going to happen tomorrow!”’”
Pea te u ʻai ʻae vahaʻa ʻi hoku kakai mo ho kakai: ʻe hoko ʻapongipongi ʻae fakaʻilonga ni.’”
24 [Early the next morning, Moses/I told that to the king, but the king would not pay any attention]. So Yahweh did what he said he would do. He sent great swarms of flies into the palace of the king and into the houses of his officials. The whole country of Egypt was ruined by the flies.
Pea naʻe fai ia ʻe Sihova: pea naʻe haʻu ʻae fuifui lango fakamamahi ki he fale ʻo Felo, mo e ngaahi fale ʻo ʻene kau tamaioʻeiki, pea ki he fonua kotoa pē ʻo ʻIsipite: pea naʻe maumau ʻae fonua ko e meʻa ʻi he ngaahi fuifui lango.
25 Then the king summoned Aaron and Moses/me and said, “You Israeli people can go and offer sacrifices to your god, [but you must do it] here in [this] land.”
Pea fekau ʻe Felo ke haʻu ʻa Mōsese mo ʻElone, ʻo ne pehē, “Mo ō, ʻo feilaulau ki homou ʻOtua ʻi he fonua.”
26 But Moses/I replied, “It would not be right [for us] to do that, because we will be offering sacrifices that are very offensive to the Egyptian people. If we offer sacrifices that the Egyptian people think are disgusting, they will kill us by throwing stones at us [RHQ]!
Pea talaange ʻe Mōsese, “ʻOku ʻikai lelei ke fai pehē: he te mau feilaulau ʻaki ʻae meʻa ʻoku fakaliliʻa ai ʻae kakai ʻIsipite, kia Sihova ko homau ʻOtua: vakai, kapau te mau feilaulau ʻaki ʻae meʻa ʻoku fakaliliʻa ai ʻae kakai ʻIsipite, ʻi honau ʻao, pea ʻikai te nau tolongi ʻaki ʻakimautolu ʻae maka?
27 No, we need to travel for three days into the desert. There we will offer sacrifices to Yahweh, the God we worship, just as he commands (OR, has commanded) us.”
Te mau ʻalu ko e fonongaʻanga ʻoe ʻaho ʻe tolu ki he toafa, ke feilaulau kia Sihova ko homau ʻOtua, ʻo hangē ko ʻene fekau kiate kimautolu.”
28 So the king said, “I will let your people go to offer sacrifices to Yahweh, your god, in the desert. But you must not go very far. [Now] pray for me!”
Pea pehē ʻe Felo, “Te u tuku ke mou ʻalu, koeʻuhi ke mou feilaulau kia Sihova, ko homou ʻOtua ʻi he toafa: ka ʻe ʻikai te mou ʻalu mamaʻo atu: ko ia mou hūfia au.”
29 Moses/I said, “Listen [to me]! After I leave you, I will pray to Yahweh, [asking] that tomorrow [he will cause] the swarms of flies to leave you and your officials and [the rest of] your people. But do not deceive us again by refusing to let our people go to offer sacrifices to Yahweh!”
Pea pehē ʻe Mōsese, “Vakai, ʻoku ou ʻalu meiate koe, pea te u hū kia Sihova koeʻuhi ke ʻalu ʻae ngaahi fuifui lango ia Felo, pea mei heʻene kau tamaioʻeiki, pea mei hono kakai ʻapongipongi: kaeʻoua naʻa toe fai fakakākā ʻe Felo ʻi he taʻofi ʻae kakai ke ʻoua naʻa ʻalu ke feilaulau kia Sihova.”
30 Then Moses/I left the king and prayed to Yahweh.
Pea naʻe ʻalu kituʻa ʻa Mōsese meia Felo, ʻo ne hū kia Sihova.
31 And Yahweh did what Moses/I asked, and he got rid of the swarms of flies from [around] the king and his officials and [the rest of] his people. No flies remained.
Pea naʻe fai ʻe Sihova ʻo hangē ko e lea ʻa Mōsese: ʻo ne ʻave ʻae ngaahi fuifui lango meia Felo, pea mei heʻene kau tamaioʻeiki, pea mei hono kakai; naʻe ʻikai kei toe ha taha.
32 But the king was stubborn [IDM] this time also, and he did not allow the Israeli people to go.
Pea naʻe fakafefeka hono loto ʻe Felo ʻi he ʻaho ko ia foki, pea naʻe ʻikai te ne tuku ʻae kakai ke ʻalu.
