Exodus 11
1 Then Yahweh said to Moses/me, “I will cause one more disaster to strike the king of Egypt and all his people [MTY]. After that, he will let you leave. In fact, he will expel you all.
E l’Eterno disse a Mosè: “Io farò venire ancora una piaga su Faraone e sull’Egitto; poi egli vi lascerà partire di qui. Quando vi lascerà partire, egli addirittura vi caccerà di qui.
2 So now speak to all the [Israeli] people. Tell them to ask all their [Egyptian] neighbors, both men and women, to give them some silver and gold jewelry.”
Or parla al popolo e digli che ciascuno domandi al suo vicino e ogni donna alla sua vicina degli oggetti d’argento e degli oggetti d’oro”.
3 Yahweh made the Egyptians highly respect the Israeli people. In particular, the Egyptian officials and all [the rest of] the people considered Moses/me to be a very great man.
E l’Eterno fece entrare il popolo nelle buone grazie degli Egiziani; anche Mosè era personalmente in gran considerazione nel paese d’Egitto, agli occhi dei servitori di Faraone e agli occhi del popolo.
4 Then Moses/I [went to the king and] said, “This is what Yahweh says: ‘About midnight [tonight] I will go throughout Egypt,
E Mosè disse: “Così dice l’Eterno: Verso mezzanotte, io passerò in mezzo all’Egitto;
5 and I will cause all the firstborn/oldest [sons] to die. That will include your oldest son, the oldest sons of the slave women who grind grain, [and the oldest sons of everyone else]. I will also kill the oldest males of the Egyptians’ livestock.
e ogni primogenito nel paese d’Egitto morrà: dal primogenito di Faraone che siede sul suo trono, al primogenito della serva che sta dietro la macina, e ad ogni primogenito del bestiame.
6 When that happens, people all over Egypt will wail loudly. They have never wailed like that before, and they will never wail like that again.
E vi sarà per tutto il paese d’Egitto un gran grido, quale non ci fu mai prima, né ci sarà di poi.
7 But among the Israeli people [it will be so quiet that] not even a dog will bark! Then you will know for sure that I, Yahweh, distinguish [how I act toward] the Egyptians and [how I act toward] the Israeli people.
Ma fra tutti i figliuoli d’Israele, tanto fra gli uomini quanto fra gli animali, neppure un cane moverà la lingua, affinché conosciate la distinzione che l’Eterno fa tra gli Egiziani e Israele.
8 Then all these officials of yours will come and bow down before me and will say, “Please get out [of Egypt], you and all the Israeli people!”’ After that, I will leave Egypt!” [After Moses/I said that], he/I very angrily left the king.
E tutti questi tuoi servitori scenderanno da me, e s’inchineranno davanti a me, dicendo: Parti, tu e tutto il popolo ch’è al tuo séguito! E, dopo questo, io partirò”. E Mosè uscì dalla presenza di Faraone, acceso d’ira.
9 Then Yahweh said to Moses/me, “The king will not pay any attention to what you say. The result will be that I will perform more plagues in the land of Egypt.”
E l’Eterno disse a Mosè: “Faraone non vi darà ascolto, affinché i miei prodigi si moltiplichino nel paese d’Egitto”.
10 Aaron and Moses/I performed all these miracles in front of the king, but Yahweh made the king stubborn, and he did not let the Israeli people leave his country.
E Mosè ed Aaronne fecero tutti questi prodigi dinanzi a Faraone; ma l’Eterno indurò il cuore di Faraone, ed egli non lasciò uscire i figliuoli d’Israele dal suo paese.
