Esther 1
1 King Xerxes ruled [a very big empire which had] 127 provinces. It extended from India [in the east] to Ethiopia [in the west].
Sa mga adlaw ni Ahasuerus (mao kini nga Ahasuerus nga naghari gikan sa India hangtod sa Etiopia, labaw sa 127 ka mga probinsya),
2 He ruled the empire [while he lived] in the capital city, Susa.
niadto nga mga adlaw naglingkod si Haring Ahasuerus sa iyang harianong trono sa salipdanan sa Susa.
3 During the third year that he ruled his empire, he invited all his administrators and [other] officials to a big banquet/feast. He invited all the commanders of the armies of Persia and Media to come to the banquet. He also invited the governors and other leaders of the provinces.
Sa ikatulo nga tuig sa iyang paghari, nagpakombira siya sa tanan niya nga mga opisyal ug sa iyang mga sulugoon. Ang kasundalohan sa Persia ug sa Media, ang dungganong mga tawo, ug mga gobernador sa mga probinsya nga anaa sa iyang atubangan.
4 [The celebration] lasted for six months. During that time the king showed his guests all his wealth and other things that showed how great his kingdom was (OR, how great a king he was).
Gipasundayag niya ang mga mahimayaong bahandi sa gingharian ug ang kadungganan sa pagkamahimayaon sa iyang pagkabantogan sa daghang mga adlaw, sulod sa 180 ka adlaw.
5 At the end of those six months, the king invited people to another banquet. He invited to the banquet all the men who worked in the palace, including those who had important jobs and those who had unimportant jobs. [This celebration] lasted for seven days. It was in the courtyard of the palace in Susa.
Sa dihang nahuman na kini nga mga adlaw, nagpakombira ang hari sulod sa pito ka adlaw. Alang kini sa tanang katawhan sa salipdanan sa susa, gikan sa labing dako hangtod sa labing ubos. Gipahigayon kini sa hawanan sa tanaman sa palasyo sa hari.
6 [In the courtyard] were beautiful blue and white curtains that were fastened by white and purple cords/ribbons to rings that were on pillars made from [expensive white stone called] marble. [The guests sat on] gold and silver couches. The couches were on a pavement/floor which had on top of it designs made from various kinds of expensive stones.
Gidayandayanan ang hawanan sa tanaman ug puti nga mga tabil nga gapas ug ube, uban sa mga pisi nga pinong lino ug tapul, gibitay sa singsing nga mga plata gikan sa mga haligi nga marmol. Didto adunay mga lingkoranan nga bulawan ug plata ibabaw sa usa ka salog nga bato, marmol, perlas, ug de-kolor nga mga bato.
7 [The guests] drank wine from gold cups. Each cup had a different design on it.
Gidalit ang mga ilimnon pinaagi sa mga kopa nga bulawan. Pinasahi ang matag kopa ug adunay daghang harianong bino ang miabot tungod sa pagkamanggihatagon sa hari.
8 There was a lot of wine, because the king wanted the guests to drink as much as they wanted. But the king told the servants that they should not force anyone to drink more than he wanted.
Gipatuman ang pag-inom pinaagi sa sugo nga, “Kinahanglan nga walay pagpamugos.” Naghatag ug mga mando ang hari ngadto sa tanang sulugoon sa iyang palasyo aron buhaton nila ang bisan unsa nga gitinguha sa matag bisita.
9 [At the same time, the king’s wife, ] Queen Vashti, invited the wives of the men who worked in the palace to a banquet [in another room in the palace].
Nagpakombira usab si Rayna Vasti alang sa mga babaye sa harianong palasyo ni Haring Ahasuerus.
10 On the last/seventh day of those banquets, when King Xerxes was partially drunk from drinking wine, he [summoned] seven of his personal servants. They were Mehuman, Biztha, Harbona, Bigtha, Abagtha, Zethar, and Carcas.
Sa ikapito nga adlaw, sa dihang nakabati sa kalipay ang kasingkasing sa hari tungod sa bino, miingon siya kang Mehuman, Bizta, Harbona, Bigta, Abagta, Zetar, ug Carkas (ang pito ka opisyal nga nag-alagad sa atubangan niya),
11 He told them to bring Queen Vashti to him, wearing her crown. He wanted his guests to see that she was very beautiful.
sa pagdala kang Rayna Vasti sa iyang atubangan uban sa iyang harianong korona. Buot niyang ipakita sa katawhan ug sa mga opisyal ang iyang pagkamaanyag, kay ang iyang katahom makadani.
12 But when those servants told Vashti what the king wanted, she refused to go to the king [because she did not want to display her beauty in front of a group of half-drunk men]. So that caused the king to become very angry.
Apan midumili sa pag-adto si Rayna Vasti sa pulong sa hari nga gipadala ngadto kaniya pinaagi sa mga opisyal. Unya nasuko pag-ayo ang hari; ang iyang kasuko misilaob diha kaniya.
13 Immediately he had a meeting with the seven men who were the most important officials in Persia and Media. They were the men whom he often asked (for their advice/what he should do). And they were men who knew all the customs and laws [of Persia]. Their names were Carshena, Shethar, Admatha, Tarshish, Meres, Marsena, and Memucan.
Busa gipatawag ni Haring Ahasuerus ang iyang kalalakin-an nga mga inila nga manggialamon, nga makasabot sa mga panahon (kay mao kini ang nabatasan nga buhaton sa hari ngadto sa tanang mga batid sa balaod ug paghukom).
Karon ang duol kaniya mao sila Karshena, Zetar, Admata, Tarshis, Meres, Marsena, Memukan, pito ka prinsipe sa Persia ug sa Media. Makaduol dayon sila ngadto sa hari, ug gikuptan nila ang labing taas nga mga katungdanan sulod sa gingharian.
15 The king said to them, “Queen Vashti has refused to obey me when I sent my servants [to tell her to come here]. What do our laws say that we should do to someone who [acts/behaves like that]?”
“Pinasikad sa balaod, unsa man ang buhaton kang Rayna Vasti tungod kay midumili siya sa pagtuman sa sugo ni Haring Ahasuerus, nga gipadala kaniya pinaagi sa mga opisyal?”
16 While the other officials were present, Memucan told the king, [“Your majesty], Queen Vashti has (insulted/done wrong against) you, but she has also insulted all your officials and everyone else (in your empire/that you rule over).
Miingon si Memukan sa atubangan sa hari ug sa mga opisyal, “Dili lamang batok sa hari nakabuhat ug sayop si Rayna Vasti, apan batok usab sa tanang mga opisyal ug sa tibuok katawhan nga anaa sa tanang mga probinsya ni Haring Ahasuerus.
17 All the women [throughout the empire] will hear what she has done, and they will say, ‘The king commanded Queen Vashti to come to him, and she refused.’ [So they will not obey their husbands. Instead, ] they will begin to not respect their husbands.
Kay ang panghitabo sa rayna masayran sa tanang kababayen-an. Mahimo kining hinungdan nga dili nila tahoron ang ilang mga bana. Moingon sila, 'Nagsugo si Haring Ahasuerus kang Rayna Vasti nga dad-on sa iyang atubangan, apan midumili siya.'
18 Before this day ends, the wives of all us officials in Persia and Media will hear what the queen did, and they also will refuse to obey their husbands. They will not respect us, and they will cause us to become very angry.
Sa dili pa mahuman kini nga adlaw ang halangdong mga babaye sa Persia ug sa Media nga nakadungog sa panghitabo mahitungod sa rayna mosulti sa sama nga butang ngadto sa tanang mga opisyal sa hari. Adunay hilabihan nga kasuko ug pagkawalay pagtahod.
19 So if it pleases you, O king, you should write a law. Like all the other laws of Persia and Media, it will be a law that (no one can change/cannot be changed.) Write a law that states that Queen Vashti will never be allowed to see you again [and will not continue to be the queen]. Then you can choose another woman to be queen, a woman who deserves to be queen more than Vashti does.
Kung makalipay kini sa hari, pagpadala ug harianong sugo gikan kaniya, ug isulat ang mga balaod sa mga taga-Persia ug sa taga-Medes, nga dili na mabakwi, nga dili na moatubang si Vasti diha kaniya. Tugoti nga ihatag sa hari ang iyang katungdanan ingon nga rayna ngadto sa uban nga mas maayo pa kay kaniya.
20 Then, when everyone in your empire hears what you have commanded, all the women, including those who are important and those who are not important, will respect and obey their husbands.”
Sa dihang gimantala ang sugo sa hari ngadto sa halapad niya nga gingharian, ang tanang mga asawa motahod sa ilang mga bana, gikan sa labing bantogan ngadto mga labing ubos.
21 The king and the other officials liked what Memucan suggested, so he [did that. He wrote a law] proclaiming that.
Gikalipay kini nga tambag sa hari ug sa iyang halangdong mga tawo, ug gibuhat kini sa hari sumala sa gitanyag ni Memukan.
22 Then he sent letters to all the provinces, stating that all men should have complete authority over their wives and their children. He wrote the letters in every language and type of writing/alphabet that was used in each province.
Nagpadala siya ug mga sulat ngadto sa tanan nga harianong mga probinsya, sa kaugalingong sinulatan sa matag probinsya, ug ngadto sa matag katawhan sa ilang kaugalingong pinulongan. Nagmando siya nga ang matag lalaki maoy mahimong pangulo sa iyang kaugalingong panimalay. Gihatag kini nga sugo sa pinulongan sa matag katawhan sa gingharian.
