Deuteronomy 31
1 When Moses/I finished saying all that to the Israeli people,
Moïse alla ensuite adresser les paroles suivantes à tout Israël,
2 he/I said to them, “Now I am 120 years old. I am no longer able to go everywhere [that you go] (OR, to be your leader). Furthermore, Yahweh has told me that I will not cross the Jordan [River].
leur disant: "J’Ai cent vingt ans aujourd’hui, je ne peux plus vous servir de guide; d’ailleurs, l’Éternel m’a dit: "Tu ne traverseras pas ce Jourdain."
3 But Yahweh our God will go ahead of you. He will [enable you to] destroy the nations that are living there, in order that you can occupy their land. Joshua will be your leader, which is what Yahweh already told me.
L’Éternel, ton Dieu, marche lui-même devant toi; c’est lui qui anéantira ces peuples devant toi pour que tu les dépossèdes. Josué sera ton guide, comme l’Éternel l’a déclaré.
4 Yahweh will do to those nations what he did to Sihon and Og, the two kings of the Amor people-group when he destroyed their armies [MTY].
Et le Seigneur les traitera comme il a traité Sihôn et Og, rois des Amorréens, et leur pays, qu’il a condamné à la ruine.
5 Yahweh will enable you to conquer those nations, but you must [kill all of the people of those nations, which is] what I have commanded you to do.
Il mettra ces peuples à votre merci; et vous procéderez à leur égard, en tout, selon l’ordre que je vous ai donné.
6 Be brave and confident. Do not be afraid of those people. [Do not forget that] it is Yahweh our God who will go with you. He will always help [LIT] you and never abandon you.”
Soyez forts et vaillants! Ne vous laissez effrayer ni intimider par eux! Car l’Éternel, ton Dieu, marche lui-même avec toi; il ne te laissera pas succomber, il ne t’abandonnera point!"
7 Then Moses/I summoned Joshua, and while all the Israeli people were listening, he/I said to him, “Be brave and confident. You are the one who will lead these people into the land that Yahweh promised to our ancestors that he would give to them, and you will enable them to occupy it.
Alors Moïse appela Josué, et lui dit en présence de tout Israël: "Sois fort et vaillant! Car c’est toi qui entreras avec ce peuple dans le pays que l’Éternel a juré à leurs pères de leur donner, et c’est toi qui leur en feras le partage.
8 It is Yahweh who will go ahead of you. He will be with you. He will always help [LIT] you. He will never abandon you. So do not be afraid or dismayed.”
L’Éternel lui-même marchera devant toi, lui-même sera à tes côtés, il ne te laissera fléchir ni ne t’abandonnera: sois donc sans peur et sans faiblesse!"
9 Moses/I wrote down all these laws [on two scrolls] and gave [one scroll] to the priests, who carried the chest containing the Ten Commandments, and [gave the other scroll] to the Israeli elders.
Moïse mit par écrit cette doctrine et la confia aux pontifes, descendants de Lévi, chargés de porter l’arche d’alliance du Seigneur, et à tous les anciens d’Israël.
10 Moses/I told them, “At the end of every seven years, at the time that all debts are canceled, [read this to the people] during the Festival of [Living in Temporary] Shelters.
Et Moïse leur ordonna ce qui suit: "A la fin de chaque septième année, à l’époque de l’année de relâche, lors de la fête des tentes,
11 Read it to all the Israeli people when they gather at the place that Yahweh chooses for them to worship him.
alors que tout Israël vient comparaître devant l’Éternel, ton Dieu, dans l’endroit qu’il aura élu, tu feras lecture de cette doctrine en présence de tout Israël, qui écoutera attentivement.
12 Gather together everyone—men, women, children, even the foreigners [who are living] in your towns—in order that they may hear [these laws] and learn to revere Yahweh our God, and to faithfully obey everything that is written in these laws.
Convoques-y le peuple entier, hommes, femmes et enfants, ainsi que l’étranger qui est dans tes murs, afin qu’ils entendent et s’instruisent, et révèrent l’Éternel, votre Dieu, et s’appliquent à pratiquer toutes les paroles de cette doctrine;
13 [If they do that], your descendants who have never known these laws will hear them and will also learn to revere Yahweh our God, during all the years that they live in the land that you are about to cross the Jordan [River] to occupy.”
et que leurs enfants, qui ne savent pas encore, entendent aussi, et qu’ils apprennent à révérer l’Éternel, votre Dieu, tant que vous vivrez sur le sol pour la possession duquel vous allez passer le Jourdain."
14 Then Yahweh said to Moses/me, “Listen carefully. You will soon die. Summon Joshua, and you go to the Sacred Tent with him, in order that I may appoint him [to be the new leader].” So Joshua and Moses/I went to the Sacred Tent.
Le Seigneur dit à Moïse: "Voici que tes jours approchent de leur terme. Appelle Josué, et présentez-vous dans la tente d’assignation, pour que je lui donne mes ordres." Et Moïse alla, avec Josué, se placer dans la tente d’assignation.
15 There Yahweh appeared to them/us in a pillar of cloud, and that cloud was close to the door of the tent.
Le Seigneur apparut dans la tente, par une colonne de nuée, et cette colonne de nuée s’arrêta à l’entrée de la tente.
16 Yahweh said to Moses/me, “You will soon die [EUP]. Then these people will become unfaithful [MET] to me. They will abandon me and (break/stop obeying) the agreement that I made with them. They will begin to worship the foreign/pagan gods [that are worshiped by the people] of the land that they will enter.
Le Seigneur dit à Moïse: "Tandis que tu reposeras avec tes pères, ce peuple se laissera débaucher par les divinités du pays barbare où il va pénétrer; et il m’abandonnera, et il brisera l’alliance que j’ai conclue avec lui.
17 When that happens, I will become very angry with them. I will abandon them [DOU] and I will no longer help them [IDM], and I will destroy them {they will be destroyed}. Many terrible things will happen to them, with the result that they will say, ‘[We are certain that] [RHQ] these things are happening to us because our God is no longer with us.’
Ce jour-là, ma colère s’enflammera contre lui, je les abandonnerai, je leur déroberai ma face, et il deviendra la pâture de chacun, et nombre de maux et d’angoisses viendront l’assaillir. Alors il se dira: "En vérité, c’est parce que mon Dieu n’est plus au milieu de moi que je suis en butte à ces malheurs."
18 And because of all the evil things that they will have done, and [especially because] they will have started to worship other gods, I will refuse to help [IDM] them.
Mais alors même, je persisterai, moi, à dérober ma face, à cause du grave méfait qu’il aura commis en se tournant vers des dieux étrangers.
19 “So, [I am going to give you] a song. Write it [on a scroll] and teach it to the Israeli people and cause them to memorize it. It will be like a witness that accuses them.
Et maintenant, écrivez pour vous ce cantique, qu’on l’enseigne aux enfants d’Israël et qu’on le mette dans leur bouche, afin que ce cantique me serve de témoignage à l’encontre des enfants d’Israël.
20 I am about to take them into a very fertile [IDM] land, a land that I solemnly promised their ancestors that I would give to them. There they will have plenty to eat, with the result that their [stomachs] will [always] be full and they will become fat. But then they will turn to other gods and start to worship them, and they will despise me and (break/stop obeying) the agreement that I made with them.
Quand j’aurai introduit ce peuple dans le pays que j’ai promis par serment à ses pères et où ruissellent le lait et le miel; vivant dans l’abondance et gorgé de délices, il s’adressera à des dieux étrangers, il les servira, me témoignera du mépris et rompra mon alliance.
21 And they will experience many terrible disasters. After that happens, their descendants will never forget this song, and it will be like a witness [that says, ‘Now you know why Yahweh punished your ancestors].’ I will soon take them into the land that I vowed that I would give to them; but now, before I do that, I know what they are thinking [that they will do when they are living there].”
Vienne alors la multitude de maux et d’angoisses qui doivent l’atteindre, le présent cantique portera témoignage en face de lui (car la bouche de sa postérité ne l’oubliera point), parce que je sais ce qu’aujourd’hui déjà son penchant le porte à faire, avant même que je l’aie introduit dans la terre par moi promise!"
22 So on the day that [Yahweh gave Moses/me this song], he/I wrote it down, and he/I taught it to the Israeli people.
Et Moïse écrivit le cantique suivant, ce jour même, et le fit apprendre aux enfants d’Israël.
23 Then Yahweh (appointed/set apart) Joshua and said to him, “Be brave and confident, because you will lead the Israeli people into the land that I vowed that I would give to them. And I will be with you.”
Et l’Éternel donna ses ordres à Josué, fils de Noun, et lui dit: "Sois ferme et courageux! Car c’est toi qui introduiras les Israélites dans la terre que je leur ai promise, et moi je t’assisterai."
24 Then Moses/I finished writing on a scroll all the laws that Yahweh had told to him/me.
Or, lorsque Moïse eut achevé de transcrire les paroles de cette loi sur un livre, jusqu’au bout,
25 Then Moses/I told the descendants of Levi, who were carrying the Sacred Chest that contained the Ten Commandments,
il ordonna aux Lévites, porteurs de l’arche d’alliance du Seigneur, ce qui suit:
26 “Take this scroll on which these laws [are written], and place it beside the Sacred Chest that contains the agreement that Yahweh our God made with you, in order that it may remain there to testify [about what Yahweh will do] to the people [if they disobey him].
"Prenez ce livre de la loi et déposez-le à côté de l’arche d’alliance de l’Éternel, votre Dieu; il y restera comme un témoin contre toi.
27 [I say this] because I know that these people are very stubborn [DOU]. They have rebelled against Yahweh all during the time that I have been [with them], and they will rebel much more after I die!
Car je connais ton indocilité et ton caractère obstiné: certes, si, moi vivant encore, étant avec vous à cette heure, vous vous êtes insurgés contre l’Éternel, que sera-ce après ma mort!
28 So gather all the elders of the tribes and your officials, in order that I can tell them the words [of this song], and request all those who are in heaven and on the earth to be witnesses to testify against these people.
Faites réunir autour de moi tous les anciens de vos tribus et vos magistrats: je veux faire parvenir ces paroles à leurs oreilles, et prendre à témoin contre eux les cieux et la terre.
29 I say that because I know that after I die, the people will become very wicked. They will turn away from doing everything that I have commanded them to do. And in the future, because of all the evil things that they will do, they will cause Yahweh to become angry with them. And he will cause them to experience disasters.”
Car je sais qu’après ma mort vous irez dégénérant, et que vous dévierez du chemin que je vous ai prescrit; mais il vous arrivera malheur dans la suite des temps, pour avoir fait ce qui déplaît au Seigneur, pour l’avoir offensé par l’œuvre de vos mains!"
30 Then, while all the Israeli people listened, Moses/I sang/recited this entire song to them:
Et Moïse fit entendre à toute l’assemblée d’Israël les paroles du cantique suivant, jusqu’à la fin:
