2 Kings 11

1 When King Ahaziah’s mother Athaliah saw that her son had been killed, she commanded that all the members of Ahaziah’s family [who might become king] must be executed.

Athalja aber, Ahasjas Mutter, da sie sah, daß ihr Sohn tot war, machte sie sich auf und brachte um allen königlichen Samen.

2 So Ahaziah’s sons were all about to be murdered. But Jehosheba, who was King Jehoram’s daughter and Ahaziah’s half-sister, took Ahaziah’s [very young] son Joash and hid him and (his nursemaid/the woman who took care of him) in a bedroom [in the temple]. So he was not killed.

Aber Joseba, die Tochter des Königs Joram, Ahasjas Schwester, nahm Joas, den Sohn Ahasjas, und stahl ihn aus des Königs Kindern, die getötet wurden, mit seiner Amme in der Schlafkammer; und sie verbargen ihn vor Athalja, daß er nicht getötet ward.

3 He stayed with Jehosheba for six years. All during that time, he remained hidden in the temple, while Athaliah ruled [Judah].

Und er war mit ihr versteckt im Hause des HERRN sechs Jahre. Athalja aber war Königin im Lande.

4 But during the next year, Jehoiada the Supreme Priest summoned the officers who supervised the royal bodyguards and the palace guards. He told them to come to the temple. There he required them to solemnly promise that they would do what he told them to do. And he showed King Ahaziah’s son Joash to them.

Im siebenten Jahr aber sandte hin Jojada und nahm die Obersten über hundert mit den Hauptleuten und die Trabanten und ließ sie zu sich ins Haus des HERRN kommen; und machte einen Bund mit ihnen und nahm einen Eid von ihnen im Hause des HERRN; und zeigte ihnen des Königs Sohn.

5 He gave them these instructions: “There are three groups of you guards. When one group finishes their work on the Sabbath day, [divide yourselves into] three smaller groups. One group must guard the palace.

Und gebot ihnen und sprach: Das ist's, das ihr tun sollt: Euer ein dritter Teil, die ihr des Sabbats angehet, sollen der Hut warten im Hause des Königs;

6 Another group must guard at the Sur Gate. The other group must guard at the gate behind the other groups.

und ein dritter Teil soll sein am Tor Sur und ein dritter Teil am Tor, das hinter den Trabanten ist; und sollt der Hut warten am Hause Massa.

7 The two groups that are not working on the Sabbath day must guard the temple [to protect little King Joash].

Aber zwei Teile euer aller, die ihr des Sabbats abgehet, sollen der Hut warten im Hause des HERRN um den König.

8 You must stand around the king wherever he goes, with your weapons in your hands. You must kill anyone who comes near you.”

Und sollt rings um den König euch machen, und ein jeglicher mit seiner Wehr in der Hand; und wer herein zwischen die Wand kommt, der sterbe, daß ihr bei dem Könige seid, wenn er aus und ein gehet.

9 The officers [who supervised the guards] did what Jehoiada told them to do. Each one brought to Jehoiada the guards that he supervised—the guards who were just finishing their work and those who were about to start their work on the Sabbath day.

Und die Obersten über hundert taten alles, wie ihnen Jojada, der Priester, geboten hatte, und nahmen zu sich ihre Männer, die des Sabbats angingen, mit denen, die des Sabbats abgingen, und kamen zu dem Priester Jojada.

10 The priest distributed to the commanders of the guards the spears and shields that had belonged to King David, that were kept/stored in the temple.

Und der Priester gab den Hauptleuten Spieße und Schilde, die des Königs Davids gewesen waren und in dem Hause des HERRN waren.

11 Then he commanded all the guards to stand in their positions, each one with his sword in his hand, all around the young king.

Und die Trabanten stunden um den König her, ein jeglicher mit seiner Wehr in der Hand, von dem Winkel des Hauses zur Rechten bis zum Winkel zur Linken, zum Altar zu und zum Hause.

12 Then he brought Joash out. He put the crown on his head and gave him a scroll on which were written the rules [that the kings needed to obey]. Then he poured some olive oil on Joash’s head and proclaimed that he was now the king. The people all clapped their hands and shouted, “We desire/hope that the king will live for many years!”

Und er ließ des Königs Sohn hervorkommen und setzte ihm eine Krone auf und gab ihm das Zeugnis; und machten ihn zum Könige und salbeten ihn und schlugen die Hände zusammen und sprachen: Glück zu dem Könige!

13 When Athaliah heard the noise that was being made by the guards and the other people, she ran to the temple, where the people were gathered.

Und da Athalja hörete das Geschrei des Volks, das zulief, kam sie zum Volk in das Haus des HERRN

14 She saw the new king standing there alongside one of the big pillars, which was the place at the temple where the kings usually stood. She saw that he was surrounded by the temple officers and men blowing trumpets, and that the people were shouting joyfully, and [some of] them were also blowing trumpets. She tore her clothes [to show her distress] and shouted, “You are traitors! You have tricked/deceived me!”

und sah, siehe, da stund der König an der Säule, wie es Gewohnheit war, und die Sänger und Trommeten bei dem Könige; und alles Volk des Landes war fröhlich und bliesen mit Trommeten. Athalja aber zerriß ihre Kleider und sprach: Aufruhr, Aufruhr!

15 Jehoiada [immediately] said, “Kill her, but do not kill her here at the temple of Yahweh! Take her away between two rows of guards. And kill anyone who tries to rescue her!”

Aber der Priester Jojada gebot den Obersten über hundert, die über das Heer gesetzt waren, und sprach zu ihnen: Führet sie zum Hause hinaus in den Hof; und wer ihr folget, der sterbe des Schwerts! Denn der Priester hatte gesagt, sie sollte nicht im Hause des HERRN sterben.

16 [She tried to flee, but] the guards seized her and took her to the palace, to the place where horses enter the courtyard. They killed her there.

Und sie legten die Hände an sie; und sie ging hinein des Weges, da die Rosse zum Hause des Königs gehen, und ward daselbst getötet.

17 Then Jehoiada made a solemn agreement between the king and the people, that they would always (obey/be faithful to) Yahweh. He also made an agreement requiring the people to be loyal to Joash their king.

Da machte Jojada einen Bund zwischen dem HERRN und dem Könige und dem Volk, daß sie des HERRN Volk sein sollten; also auch zwischen dem Könige und dem Volk.

18 Then all the people of Israel who were there went to the temple of Baal and tore it down. They smashed the altars and the statues of Baal. They also killed Mattan, the priest of Baal, in front of the altars. Jehoiada stationed/put guards at the temple of Yahweh.

Da ging alles Volk des Landes in die Kirche Baals und brachen seine Altäre ab und zerbrachen seine Bildnisse recht wohl; und Mathan, den Priester Baals, erwürgeten sie vor den Altären. Der Priester aber bestellete die Ämter im Hause des HERRN.

19 Then he and the officers of the temple, the officers who supervised the royal bodyguards, and the king’s bodyguards brought the king from the temple to the palace. All the people [followed them]. Joash entered the palace at the Guard Gate and sat down on the throne, [which showed that he was the new king].

Und nahm die Obersten über hundert und die Hauptleute und die Trabanten und alles Volk des Landes und führeten den König hinab vom Hause des HERRN; und kamen auf dem Wege von dem Tor der Trabanten zum Königshause; und er setzte sich auf der Könige Stuhl.

20 All the people of Judah rejoiced. And because Athaliah had been killed, the city was quiet/calm.

Und alles Volk im Lande war fröhlich, und die Stadt war stille. Athalja aber töteten sie mit dem Schwert in des Königs Hause.

21 Joash was seven years old when he became the king [of Judah].

Und Joas war sieben Jahre alt, da er König ward.
