2 Kings 11

1 When King Ahaziah’s mother Athaliah saw that her son had been killed, she commanded that all the members of Ahaziah’s family [who might become king] must be executed.

Cependant Athalie, mère d'Achazia, voyant son fils mort, se leva et fit périr toute la race royale.

2 So Ahaziah’s sons were all about to be murdered. But Jehosheba, who was King Jehoram’s daughter and Ahaziah’s half-sister, took Ahaziah’s [very young] son Joash and hid him and (his nursemaid/the woman who took care of him) in a bedroom [in the temple]. So he was not killed.

Alors Joséba, fille du roi Joram, sœur d'Achazia, enleva Joas, fils d'Achazia, et le déroba du milieu des fils du roi qui recevaient la mort, et le recela lui et sa nourrice dans la salle des lits. Et elles le cachèrent aux regards d'Athalie en sorte qu'il ne fut pas mis à mort;

3 He stayed with Jehosheba for six years. All during that time, he remained hidden in the temple, while Athaliah ruled [Judah].

et il fut caché six ans avec elle dans le temple de l'Éternel. Or Athalie régissait le pays.

4 But during the next year, Jehoiada the Supreme Priest summoned the officers who supervised the royal bodyguards and the palace guards. He told them to come to the temple. There he required them to solemnly promise that they would do what he told them to do. And he showed King Ahaziah’s son Joash to them.

Et la septième année, Jehojada envoya chercher les centurions des satellites et des coureurs, et il les fit venir chez lui dans le temple de l'Éternel et conclut avec eux un accord, et les assermenta dans le temple de l'Éternel et leur montra le fils du roi.

5 He gave them these instructions: “There are three groups of you guards. When one group finishes their work on the Sabbath day, [divide yourselves into] three smaller groups. One group must guard the palace.

Et il leur donna ses ordres en ces termes: Voici ce que vous avez à faire: Un tiers d'entre vous qui entrez en service le jour du sabbat, gardera le palais royal,

6 Another group must guard at the Sur Gate. The other group must guard at the gate behind the other groups.

et un tiers occupera la porte Sur (latérale), et un tiers la porte derrière les coureurs, et vous garderez ainsi le palais, en arrêt.

7 The two groups that are not working on the Sabbath day must guard the temple [to protect little King Joash].

Et les deux sections que vous formez, vous tous qui êtes relevés le jour du sabbat [de la garde du palais], monteront la garde dans le temple de l'Éternel auprès du roi.

8 You must stand around the king wherever he goes, with your weapons in your hands. You must kill anyone who comes near you.”

Et entourez le roi de toutes parts, ayant chacun ses armes à la main; et mort à qui s'introduira entre les rangs! et accompagnez le roi à sa sortie et à son entrée.

9 The officers [who supervised the guards] did what Jehoiada told them to do. Each one brought to Jehoiada the guards that he supervised—the guards who were just finishing their work and those who were about to start their work on the Sabbath day.

Et les centurions exécutèrent tous les ordres du Prêtre Jehojada, et ils prirent chacun son monde, savoir et ceux qui montaient et ceux qui descendaient la garde le jour du sabbat, et joignirent le Prêtre Jehojada.

10 The priest distributed to the commanders of the guards the spears and shields that had belonged to King David, that were kept/stored in the temple.

Et le Prêtre remit aux centurions les piques et les boucliers du roi David, qui étaient dans le temple de l'Éternel.

11 Then he commanded all the guards to stand in their positions, each one with his sword in his hand, all around the young king.

Et les coureurs, chacun ses armes à la main, se portèrent depuis le côté droit au côté gauche du temple, et à l'autel vers le Temple à l'entour du roi.

12 Then he brought Joash out. He put the crown on his head and gave him a scroll on which were written the rules [that the kings needed to obey]. Then he poured some olive oil on Joash’s head and proclaimed that he was now the king. The people all clapped their hands and shouted, “We desire/hope that the king will live for many years!”

Et il produisit le fils du roi et il le couvrit de la couronne et lui remit la Loi; et ils le constituèrent roi et l'oignirent et frappèrent des mains et crièrent: Vive le Roi!

13 When Athaliah heard the noise that was being made by the guards and the other people, she ran to the temple, where the people were gathered.

Alors Athalie entendit les voix des coureurs et du peuple et elle se porta vers le peuple dans le temple de l'Éternel.

14 She saw the new king standing there alongside one of the big pillars, which was the place at the temple where the kings usually stood. She saw that he was surrounded by the temple officers and men blowing trumpets, and that the people were shouting joyfully, and [some of] them were also blowing trumpets. She tore her clothes [to show her distress] and shouted, “You are traitors! You have tricked/deceived me!”

Et elle regarda, et voilà que le roi se tenait sur le palier selon l'usage et aux côtés du roi les centurions et les trompettes et tout le peuple du pays joyeux et sonnant de la trompette.

15 Jehoiada [immediately] said, “Kill her, but do not kill her here at the temple of Yahweh! Take her away between two rows of guards. And kill anyone who tries to rescue her!”

Alors Athalie déchira ses vêtements et s'écria: Complot! Complot! Mais le Prêtre Jehojada fit aux centurions, généraux de l'armée, ce commandement: Tirez-la jusqu'entre les rangs! et tuez avec l'épée quiconque la suivra! Car le Prêtre disait: Qu'elle ne reçoive pas la mort dans le temple de l'Éternel.

16 [She tried to flee, but] the guards seized her and took her to the palace, to the place where horses enter the courtyard. They killed her there.

Et pour lui faire place ils formèrent deux lignes, et elle arriva par la voie du passage des chevaux au palais royal, où elle reçut la mort.

17 Then Jehoiada made a solemn agreement between the king and the people, that they would always (obey/be faithful to) Yahweh. He also made an agreement requiring the people to be loyal to Joash their king.

Et Jehojada solennisa l'alliance entre l'Éternel et le roi et le peuple, stipulant qu'il serait le peuple de l'Éternel, et entre le roi et le peuple.

18 Then all the people of Israel who were there went to the temple of Baal and tore it down. They smashed the altars and the statues of Baal. They also killed Mattan, the priest of Baal, in front of the altars. Jehoiada stationed/put guards at the temple of Yahweh.

Alors toute la population du pays envahit le temple de Baal, et ils le démolirent et brisèrent ses autels et ses simulacres, à fond, et égorgèrent Mathan, prêtre de Baal, devant les autels. Et le Prêtre préposa des préfectures sur le temple de l'Éternel.

19 Then he and the officers of the temple, the officers who supervised the royal bodyguards, and the king’s bodyguards brought the king from the temple to the palace. All the people [followed them]. Joash entered the palace at the Guard Gate and sat down on the throne, [which showed that he was the new king].

Et il prit les centurions et les satellites et les coureurs et tout le peuple du pays, et ils firent descendre le roi du temple de l'Éternel, et passant par la porte des coureurs ils arrivèrent au palais royal, et le roi prit place sur le trône des rois.

20 All the people of Judah rejoiced. And because Athaliah had been killed, the city was quiet/calm.

Et tout le peuple du pays était dans l'allégresse, et la ville était tranquille: quant à Athalie, ils lui avaient donné la mort avec l'épée au palais royal.

21 Joash was seven years old when he became the king [of Judah].

Joas avait sept ans à son avènement.
