1 Samuel 3

1 [While he was still a] boy, Samuel was working for Yahweh while Eli supervised him. At that time there were very few messages [that anyone received] from Yahweh, and very few people saw visions [that Yahweh gave them].

Und der Knabe Samuel diente Jehova vor Eli. Und das Wort Jehovas war selten in jenen Tagen, Gesichte waren nicht häufig.

2 By that time Eli’s eyes were very weak; he was almost blind. [One night] he was sleeping in his room,

Und es geschah in selbiger Zeit, als Eli an seinem Orte lag seine Augen aber hatten begonnen, blöde zu werden, er konnte nicht sehen-

3 and Samuel was sleeping in the sacred tent, where the chest that contained the Ten Commandments was kept. While the sacred lamp was still burning,

und die Lampe Gottes war noch nicht erloschen, und Samuel lag im Tempel Jehovas, woselbst die Lade Gottes war,

4 Yahweh called, “Samuel! Samuel!” Samuel replied, “I’m here!”

da rief Jehova den Samuel. Und er sprach: Hier bin ich!

5 Then he [got up and] ran to Eli. He said to him, “I am here, because you called me!” But Eli replied, “No, I did not call you. Go back to your bed.” So Samuel went and lay down again.

Und er lief zu Eli und sprach: Hier bin ich, denn du hast mich gerufen. Aber er sprach: Ich habe nicht gerufen, lege dich wieder. Und er ging hin und legte sich.

6 Then Yahweh called again, “Samuel!” So Samuel got up again and went to Eli and said, “I am here, because you called me!” But Eli said, “No, my son, I did not call you. Go back and lie down.”

Und Jehova rief wiederum: Samuel! Und Samuel stand auf und ging zu Eli und sprach: Hier bin ich, denn du hast mich gerufen. Und er sprach: Ich habe nicht gerufen, mein Sohn, lege dich wieder.

7 At that time Samuel did not yet know [that] Yahweh [could speak to him], because Yahweh had not previously revealed anything to him.

Samuel aber kannte Jehova noch nicht, und das Wort Jehovas war ihm noch nicht geoffenbart.

8 [After Samuel lay down again], Yahweh called him a third time. So again Samuel got up and went to Eli and said, “I am here, because you called me!” Then Eli realized that it was Yahweh who was calling the boy.

Und Jehova rief wiederum zum dritten Male: Samuel! Und er stand auf und ging zu Eli und sprach: Hier bin ich, denn du hast mich gerufen. Da erkannte Eli, daß Jehova den Knaben rief.

9 So he said to Samuel, “Go and lie down again. If someone calls you again, say ‘Speak to me, Yahweh, because I am listening!’” So Samuel went and lay down again.

Und Eli sprach zu Samuel: Gehe hin, lege dich; und es geschehe, wenn man dich ruft, so sprich: Rede, Jehova, denn dein Knecht hört. Und Samuel ging hin und legte sich an seinen Ort.

10 Then Yahweh came and stood there and called as he had done the other times, “Samuel! Samuel!” Then Samuel said, “Speak to me, because I am listening!”

Und Jehova kam und trat hin und rief wie die anderen Male: Samuel, Samuel! Und Samuel sprach: Rede, denn dein Knecht hört.

11 Then Yahweh said to Samuel, “Listen carefully. I am about to do something here in Israel that will shock/horrify [IDM] everyone who hears about it.

Da sprach Jehova zu Samuel: Siehe, ich will eine Sache tun in Israel, daß jedem, der sie hört, seine beiden Ohren gellen sollen.

12 When that happens, I will punish Eli and his family. I will do to them everything that I said that I would do.

An selbigem Tage werde ich wider Eli alles ausführen, was ich über sein Haus geredet habe: ich werde beginnen und vollenden.

13 His sons have shown great disrespect for me by the disgraceful things they have done, and Eli did not restrain them. So I told him that I would punish his family forever.

Denn ich habe ihm kundgetan, daß ich sein Haus richten will ewiglich, um der Ungerechtigkeit willen, die er gewußt hat, daß seine Söhne sich den Fluch zuzogen, und er ihnen nicht gewehrt hat.

14 I solemnly promised to Eli’s family, ‘You will never be able to avoid the consequences for your sin, even if you give me sacrifices or offerings.’”

Und darum habe ich dem Hause Elis geschworen: Wenn Ungerechtigkeit des Hauses Elis gesühnt werden soll durch Schlachtopfer und durch Speisopfer ewiglich!

15 Samuel lay down again until morning. Then he got up and opened the doors of the Sacred Tent [as usual]. He was afraid to tell Eli about the vision [that Yahweh had given him].

Und Samuel lag bis zum Morgen; da tat er die Tür des Hauses Jehovas auf. Und Samuel fürchtete sich, Eli das Gesicht kundzutun.

16 But Eli called him and said, “Samuel, my son!” Samuel answered, “I am here!”

Da rief Eli den Samuel und sprach: Samuel, mein Sohn! Und er sprach: Hier bin ich!

17 Eli asked him, “What was it that Yahweh told you? Do not conceal it! I want God to punish you severely if you do not tell me everything that he said to you.”

Und er sprach: Was ist das Wort, das er zu dir geredet hat? Verhehle es mir doch nicht. So tue dir Gott und so füge er hinzu, wenn du mir etwas verhehlst von allem, was er zu dir geredet hat!

18 So Samuel told him everything. He did not refuse to tell him anything. Then Eli said, “He is Yahweh. I am willing for him to do what he thinks is best.”

Da tat ihm Samuel alle die Worte kund und verhehlte ihm nichts. Und er sprach: Er ist Jehova; er tue, was gut ist in seinen Augen.

19 As Samuel grew up, Yahweh helped him, and caused everything to (come true/happen) that Samuel predicted.

Und Samuel wurde groß; und Jehova war mit ihm und ließ keines von allen seinen Worten auf die Erde fallen.

20 So all the people of Israel, from the northern end of the country to the southern end, realized that Samuel was truly a prophet of Yahweh.

Und ganz Israel, von Dan bis Beerseba, erkannte, daß Samuel als Prophet Jehovas bestätigt war.

21 Yahweh continued to appear to Samuel in Shiloh and give messages to him.

Und Jehova fuhr fort in Silo zu erscheinen; denn Jehova offenbarte sich dem Samuel in Silo durch das Wort Jehovas. Und das Wort Samuels erging an ganz Israel.
