1 Samuel 29
1 The Philistia army gathered at Aphek [Valley, which is near Shunem]. The Israelis set up their tents at Jezreel [city, which was in the same valley].
Les Philistins rassemblèrent toutes leurs troupes à Aphek, et Israël campa près de la source de Jizreel.
2 The kings of Philistia divided their men into groups; some groups had 100 soldiers and some groups had 1,000 soldiers. David and his men were marching behind, with King Achish.
Les princes des Philistins s’avancèrent avec leurs centaines et leurs milliers, et David et ses gens marchaient à l’arrière-garde avec Akisch.
3 But the Philistia commanders asked, “What are these Hebrews [doing here, marching with us to battle]?” Achish replied, “[Their leader is] David. [He] previously worked for King Saul of Israel, but now he has been living near me for more than a year. During all the time since he left Saul, I have not seen/found that he has any faults.”
Les princes des Philistins dirent: Que font ici ces Hébreux? Et Akisch répondit aux princes des Philistins: N’est-ce pas David, serviteur de Saül, roi d’Israël? Il y a longtemps qu’il est avec moi, et je n’ai pas trouvé la moindre chose à lui reprocher depuis son arrivée jusqu’à ce jour.
4 But the Philistia army commanders were angry with Achish [for allowing David’s army to be going with them]. They said to him, “Send David [and his men] back to the city that you gave to him! We do not want him to go with us into the battle. [If he goes with us, ] we will have an enemy in our own midst! He would please King Saul by killing our own soldiers [RHQ]!
Mais les princes des Philistins s’irritèrent contre Akisch, et lui dirent: Renvoie cet homme, et qu’il retourne dans le lieu où tu l’as établi; qu’il ne descende pas avec nous sur le champ de bataille, afin qu’il ne soit pas pour nous un ennemi pendant le combat. Et comment cet homme rentrerait-il en grâce auprès de son maître, si ce n’est au moyen des têtes de nos gens?
5 [Have you forgotten that] David is the one about whom the Israelis dance and sing, saying, ‘Saul has killed 1000 of our enemies, but David has killed 10,000 of them!’?”
N’est-ce pas ce David pour qui l’on chantait en dansant: Saül a frappé ses mille, Et David ses dix mille?
6 So Achish summoned David, and said to him, “Just as surely as Yahweh lives, you have been loyal to me. I would like very much for you to fight along with my army. Since the day that you came to me, I have not found/seen that you have any faults. But the other Philistia rulers do not trust you.
Akisch appela David, et lui dit: L’Éternel est vivant! Tu es un homme droit, et j’aime à te voir aller et venir avec moi dans le camp, car je n’ai rien trouvé de mauvais en toi depuis ton arrivée auprès de moi jusqu’à ce jour; mais tu ne plais pas aux princes.
7 So all of you go back home, and I hope/desire that things will go well for you. I do not want you(sg) to do anything that the other rulers of Philistia will not be pleased with.”
Retourne donc et va-t’en en paix, pour ne rien faire de désagréable aux yeux des princes des Philistins.
8 David replied, “What wrong have I done? Since the day that I first came to you until today, have I done anything that you think is evil? Your majesty, why will you not allow me to go and fight against your enemies?”
David dit à Akisch: Mais qu’ai-je fait, et qu’as-tu trouvé en ton serviteur depuis que je suis auprès de toi jusqu’à ce jour, pour que je n’aille pas combattre les ennemis de mon seigneur le roi?
9 Achish replied, “I know that you are as just as good as an angel from God. But the commanders of my army have said, ‘We will not allow David [and his men] to go with us into the battle.’
Akisch répondit à David: Je le sais, car tu es agréable à mes yeux comme un ange de Dieu; mais les princes des Philistins disent: Il ne montera point avec nous pour combattre.
10 So early tomorrow morning you and your men must leave. Get up as soon as it is light and leave.”
Ainsi lève-toi de bon matin, toi et les serviteurs de ton maître qui sont venus avec toi; levez-vous de bon matin, et partez dès que vous verrez la lumière.
11 So David and his men got up early the following morning and returned to the area where the Philistia people lived. And the Philistia army went up to Jezreel.
David et ses gens se levèrent de bonne heure, pour partir dès le matin, et retourner dans le pays des Philistins. Et les Philistins montèrent à Jizreel.
