1 Samuel 21
1 David fled from there and went to Nob [city to see] Ahimelech the priest. Ahimelech trembled when he saw David [because he was afraid that something bad had happened]. He said to David, “Why are you alone? Why have no men come with you?”
Đa-vít đến Nóp, gặp thầy tế lễ A-hi-mê-léc. A-hi-mê-léc run sợ, chạy đến đón người, mà hỏi rằng: Nhân sao ông có một mình, chẳng ai theo hết vậy?
2 David [deceived Ahimelech] by replying, “The king sent me. But he does not want anyone to know anything about what he sent me to do. I have told my men where [they should meet me].
Đa-vít đáp cùng thầy tế lễ A-hi-mê-léc rằng: Vua có sai tôi một việc, và dặn rằng: Chớ cho ai biết gì hết về việc ta sai ngươi làm, cũng đừng cho ai biết lịnh ta truyền cho ngươi. Ta đã chỉ định cho các tôi tớ ta một nơi hò hẹn.
3 Now [I want to know], do you have any [food here for me to eat] [IDM]? Could you give me five loaves of bread, or whatever [other food] that you can find?”
Bây giờ, thầy có chi trong tay? Hãy trao cho ta năm ổ bánh hay là vật gì thầy có thế tìm được.
4 The priest answered David, “There is no ordinary bread here, but I have some of the sacred bread [that was placed before Yahweh]. Your men may eat it if they have not slept with [EUP] women [recently].”
Thầy tế lễ đáp cùng Đa-vít rằng: Trong tay ta không có bánh thường, chỉ có bánh thánh mà thôi; miễn là các tôi tớ ông không có đến gần đàn bà.
5 David replied, “They have not been near women for many days. I do not allow my men to defile themselves by sleeping with women while they are preparing to fight in battles. They must continue to keep themselves acceptable to God when they are on ordinary trips, and [today they have kept themselves acceptable to God] because now we are doing something very special/important.”
Đa-vít đáp cùng thầy tế lễ rằng: Từ khi ta đi ra vài ba ngày rồi, chúng tôi không có lại gần một người nữ nào hết. Các bạn tôi cũng thanh sạch; còn nếu công việc tôi không thánh, thì ngày nay há chẳng nhờ kẻ làm thánh nó mà được thánh sao?
6 The only bread that the priest had was the sacred bread that had been placed in Yahweh’s presence [in the Sacred tent]. So the priest gave David some of that bread. On that day the priest had taken those loaves from the table and replaced them with (fresh/newly baked) loaves.
Vậy thầy tế lễ trao bánh thánh cho người; vì ở đó chẳng có bánh chi khác hơn bánh trần thiết, mà người ta đã cất khỏi trước mặt Đức Giê-hô-va, đặng thế bánh mới cùng trong một lúc ấy.
7 It happened that Doeg, from the Edom people-group, was there on that day to make himself acceptable to Yahweh, [and he saw what Ahimelech did]. He was one of Saul’s officials and the leader of Saul’s shepherds.
Cũng trong ngày ấy, có một tôi tớ của Sau-lơ ở đó, bị cầm lại tại trước mặt Đức Giê-hô-va. Người tên là Đô-e, dân Ê-đôm, làm đầu các kẻ chăn chiên của Sau-lơ.
8 David asked Ahimelech, “Do you have a spear or a sword [that I could use]? The king [appointed us to do] this task [and told us to leave] immediately, so I did not have time to bring any weapons.”
Đa-vít nói cùng A-hi-mê-léc rằng: Dưới tay thầy đây, há chẳng có một cây giáo hay là một cây gươm sao? Ta không có đem theo gươm hay là binh khí gì, vì lịnh vua lấy làm gấp rút.
9 Ahimelech replied, “I have only the sword that belonged to Goliath [the giant] from the Philistia people-group whom you killed in Elah Valley. It is wrapped in a cloth, and is behind the sacred vest [in the Sacred Tent]. If you want it, take it, because I have no other [weapon] here.” David replied, “Truly, there is no other sword that is [as good] as that one! Give it to me.”
Thầy tế lễ đáp rằng: Đây có cây gươm của Gô-li-át, người Phi-li-tin mà ông đã giết trong trũng Ê-la; nó bọc trong một miếng nỉ, để sau Ê-phót; nếu ông muốn lấy, thì hãy lấy đi; vì ở đây chẳng có gươm nào khác. Đa-vít đáp rằng: Chẳng có gươm nào bằng, hãy trao cho ta.
10 [So Ahimelech gave it to him], and David left there. He [and his men] and went to Gath [city in the Philistia region], to stay with King Achish.
Bấy giờ, Đa-vít chổi dậy, ngày đó trốn xa khỏi Sau-lơ; mà đi đến cùng A-kích, vua Gát.
11 But the officers of King Achish [objected to David being there. They] said to King Achish, “This man is [RHQ] David, the king of Israel! He is the one [RHQ] whom [our enemies], the [Israeli] people, [honored by] dancing and singing, ‘Saul has killed thousands [of his enemies], but David has killed tens of thousands of them!’”
Các tôi tớ của A-kích hỏi rằng: Có phải đó là Đa-vít, vua của xứ ấy chăng? Há chẳng phải về người nầy mà bọn nữ có nói trong khi múa hát rằng: “Sau-lơ giết hàng ngàn, Còn Đa-vít giết hàng vạn?”
12 David heard what those men were saying, so he was afraid of [what] King Achish [might do to him].
Đa-vít để các lời nầy vào trong lòng mình, và rất sợ A-kích, vua Gát.
13 So he pretended that he was insane. He started scratching on the gates [of the city] and allowing his saliva to run down his beard.
Người giả đò điên cuồng trước mặt chúng, và làm bộ dại khờ giữa họ; người vẽ gạch dấu trên cửa và để nước miếng chảy trên râu mình.
14 Then King Achish said to his men, “Look at this man! He is acting like an insane man! Why have you brought him to me?
A-kích nói cùng tôi tớ mình rằng: Kìa, các ngươi thấy người đó điên cuồng! Cớ sao các ngươi dẫn nó đến ta?
15 Have you brought him because I do not have enough insane men here already [RHQ]? I do not want [RHQ] him to come into my house!”
Nơi ta há thiếu kẻ điên sao, nên các ngươi phải dẫn kẻ nầy đến ta đặng nó bày sự k” cục trước mặt ta? Một người như vậy chẳng nên vào nhà ta.
