< 1 Chronicles 23 >

1 David was a very old man [DOU] when he appointed his son Solomon to be the next king.
Na kua koroheketia a Rawiri, kua rite ona tau; a ka meinga e ia tana tama a Horomona hei kingi mo Iharaira.
2 David gathered the leaders of Israel and the priests and other descendants of Levi.
Na ka huihuia e ia nga rangatira katoa o Iharaira, ratou ko nga tohunga, ko nga Riwaiti.
3 He [commanded some of his officials to] count the descendants of Levi who were at least thirty years old, and they found out that there were 38,000 of them.
Na ka taua nga Riwaiti, nga mea e toru tekau, he maha atu ranei, o ratou tau. Na, ko to ratou tokomaha, he mea tatau a tangata tonu, e toru tekau ma waru mano.
4 Then David said, “From those 38,000 men, I want 24,000 of them to supervise the work at the temple of Yahweh, and I want 6,000 of them to be officials and judges.
O enei, e rua tekau ma wha mano hei whakahaere i te mahi o te whare o Ihowa; na, ko nga rangatira, ko nga kaiwhakarite, e ono mano.
5 I want 4,000 to be guards at the gates, and 4,000 to praise Yahweh, using the musical instruments that I have provided for them.”
Na e wha mano hei kaitiaki kuwaha, a e wha mano hei whakamoemiti ki a Ihowa i runga i nga mea whakatangi i hanga e ahau, e ai ta Rawiri, hei mea whakamoemiti.
6 David divided the descendants of Levi into three family groups; each group consisted of men who were descendants of one of the three sons of Levi—Gershon, Kohath, and Merari.
A wehea ana ratou e Rawiri, he wehenga, he wehenga, ki nga tama a Riwai, a Kerehona, a Kohata, a Merari.
7 From the descendants of Gershon there were Ladan and Shimei.
O nga Kerehoni, ko Raarana, ko Himei.
8 There were three sons of Ladan: Jehiel was the oldest, and his [younger] brothers Zetham and Joel.
Ko nga tama a Raarana; ko te upoko ko Tehiere, ko Tetama, ko Hoera, tokotoru.
9 There were three of the sons of Shimei: Shelomoth, Haziel, and Haran. They were all leaders of the clans of Ladan.
Ko nga tama a Himei; ko Heromoto, ko Hatiere, ko Harana, tokotoru. Ko nga upoko enei o nga whare o nga matua o Raarana.
10 There were four men who were other sons of Shimei:
Na, ko nga tama a Himei; ko Iahata, ko Tina, ko Ieuhu, ko Peria. Ko enei tokowha he tama na Himei.
11 Jahath, who was his oldest son, and his [younger] brothers Ziza, Jeush, and Beriah. Jeush and Beriah did not have many sons, so they were counted as though they were one family.
Ko Iahata te upoko, ko Tita te tuarua: na kihai i tokomaha nga tama a Ieuhu raua ko Peria, a hei whare matua raua, kotahi ano tauanga.
12 Kohath had four sons: Amram, Izhar, Hebron, and Uzziel.
Ko nga tama a Kohata; ko Amarama, ko Itihara, ko Heperona, ko Utiere, tokowha.
13 There were two sons of Amram: Aaron and Moses. Aaron and his descendants were set apart to dedicate the very holy things, to offer sacrifices to Yahweh, to serve in his presence, and to declare [to the people] what Yahweh [MTY] would do to bless them. They were to do those things forever.
Ko nga tama a Amarama; ko Arona raua ko Mohi. Na i motuhia a Arona hei whakatapu i nga mea tapu rawa, a ia me ana tama, ake ake hei tahu whakakakara ki te aroaro o Ihowa, hei minita ki a ia, hei manaaki i runga i tona ingoa a ake ake.
14 The sons of Moses, the man who served God [well], were counted as part of the tribe of Levi.
Na ko Mohi tangata a te Atua, no te iwi o Riwai te karangatanga o ana tama.
15 The sons of Moses were Gershom and Eliezer.
Ko nga tama a Mohi; ko Kerehoma, ko Erietere.
16 The oldest son of Gershom was Shubael.
O nga tama a Kerehoma, ko Hepuere te upoko.
17 Rehabiah was the oldest son of Eliezer. Eliezer had no other sons, but Rehabiah had many sons.
Na, ko nga tama a Erietere; ko Rehapia te upoko. A kahore atu he tama a Erietere. He tokomaha rawa ia nga tama a Rehapia.
18 The oldest son of Izhar was Shelomith.
O nga tama a Itihara; ko Heromiti te upoko.
19 Hebron had four sons. Jeriah was his oldest son, and his [younger] brothers were Amariah, Jahaziel, and Jekameam.
O nga tama a Heperona; ko Teria te upoko, ko Amaria te tuarua, ko Tahatiere te tuatoru, ko Tekameama te tuawha.
20 Uzziel had two sons. Micah was the oldest son, and his [younger] brother was Isshiah.
O nga tama a Utiere; ko Mika te upoko, ko Ihiia te tuarua.
21 Merari had two sons: Mahli and Mushi. The sons of Mahli were Eleazar and Kish.
Ko nga tama a Merari; ko Mahari, ko Muhi. Ko nga tama a Mahari; ko Ereatara, ko Kihi.
22 Eleazar had no sons; he had only daughters. Their cousins, the sons of Kish, married them.
Na ka mate a Ereatara; kahore ana tama; engari he tamahine: a riro ana ratou hei wahine i o ratou tungane, i nga tama a Kihi.
23 The three sons of Mushi were Mahli, Eder, and Jerimoth.
Ko nga tama a Muhi; ko Mahari, ko Erere, ko Teremoto, tokotoru.
24 Those were the descendants of Levi, whose names were listed according to their families/clans. They were chosen for special jobs by (casting lots/throwing small marked stones). Each person who was at least 20 years old was listed. They all worked in the temple of Yahweh.
Ko nga tama enei a Riwai i nga whare o o ratou matua; ara nga upoko o nga whare o nga matua, he mea tatau a tangata, tenei ingoa, tenei ingoa o nga kaimahi i nga mea mo te whare o Ihowa, te hunga, e rua tekau, he maha atu hoki o ratou tau.
25 David had said previously, “Yahweh, the God to whom we Israeli people belong, has enabled us to have peace, and he [has come to] live in Jerusalem forever.
I mea hoki a Rawiri, Kua meinga nei e Ihowa, e te Atua o Iharaira tana iwi kia okioki, a ka moho tonu ia ki Hiruharama:
26 Therefore, the descendants of Levi no longer need to carry the Sacred Tent and the items used in the work there.”
Me nga Riwaiti, heoi ano ta ratou amohanga i te tapenakara, me ona mea katoa mo nga mahi ki reira.
27 Obeying the final instructions of David [before he died, instructions for doing this work at the temple], they counted only the descendants of Levi who were at least 20 years old.
Na nga kupu whakamutunga hoki a Rawiri i taua ai nga Riwaiti e rua nei tekau, he maha atu hoki, o ratou tau.
28 The work of those descendants of Levi was to assist the descendants of Aaron in their work in the temple of Yahweh: To be in charge of the temple courtyards and the side rooms, the ceremonies for purifying all the sacred things, and to do other work at the temple.
Ko te turanga hoki mo ratou kei te taha o nga tama a Arona, mo nga mahi o te whare o Ihowa, i nga marae, i nga ruma, i te purenga o nga mea tapu katoa, i te meatanga o te mahi te whare o te Atua;
29 They were also in charge of the sacred loaves of bread that were placed [each week] on the table [in the temple], the flour for the grain offerings, the wafers that were made without yeast, and the measuring the ingredients and mixing them and baking that bread and those wafers.
Ara o te taro aroaro, o te paraoa mo te whakahere totokore, o nga keke rewenakore, o te mea i tunua ki te paraharaha, o te mea i paraipanatia, o nga mea katoa e mehuatia ana, e ruritia ana;
30 They were also told to stand every morning [at the temple] and thank Yahweh and praise him. They were also required to do the same thing every evening.
Hei tu i tenei ata, i tenei ata, ki te whakawhetai, ki te whakamoemiti ki a Ihowa; kia pera hoki i te ahiahi;
31 And they were to do the same thing whenever offerings that were to be completely burned [on the altar] were presented/offered to Yahweh on Sabbath days and during the new moon celebrations and other religious festivals. They were told how many of them should be there and what they should do each time.
Hei whakaeke mo nga tahunga tinana katoa ma Ihowa i nga hapati, i nga marama hou, i nga hakari i whakaritea; he mea tatau tonu ratou, i runga i te tikanga mo ratou, i te aroaro tonu o Ihowa:
32 So the descendants of Levi did the work that was assigned to them by their fellow Israelis who were descendants of Aaron. They did that work in the area surrounding the Sacred Tent, and in the Sacred Tent, and [later] at the temple.
Ko ratou ano hei tiaki i nga mea o te tapenakara o te whakaminenga, hei tiaki i te wahi tapu, hei tiaki hoki i nga mea o o ratou tuakana, o nga tama a Arona, i te mea e mahi ana i nga mea o te whare o Ihowa.
