1 Chronicles 15
1 David [commanded his workers to] build some houses for him in Jerusalem. He also told them to set up a tent in which to put the Sacred Chest.
David se bâtit des maisons dans la cité de David; il prépara une place à l’arche de Dieu, et dressa pour elle une tente.
2 He said, “Only the descendants of Levi are permitted to carry God’s Sacred Chest, because they are the ones whom God chose to carry it and to serve him forever.”
Alors David dit: L’arche de Dieu ne doit être portée que par les Lévites, car l’Éternel les a choisis pour porter l’arche de Dieu et pour en faire le service à toujours.
3 David summoned all the people of Israel to come to Jerusalem. He wanted the Sacred Chest of Yahweh to be put in the place that he had made for it.
Et David assembla tout Israël à Jérusalem pour faire monter l’arche de l’Éternel à la place qu’il lui avait préparée.
4 He summoned the descendants of Aaron, [who was the first Supreme Priest, ] and the other descendants of Levi.
David assembla les fils d’Aaron et les Lévites:
5 120 descendants of Kohath, who was Levi’s second son, came, with Uriel their leader.
des fils de Kehath, Uriel le chef et ses frères, cent vingt;
6 There were 220 descendants of Merari, Levi’s third son, who came, with Asaiah their leader.
des fils de Merari, Asaja le chef et ses frères, deux cent vingt;
7 There were 130 descendants of Gershon, Levi’s first son, who came, with Joel their leader.
des fils de Guerschom, Joël le chef et ses frères, cent trente;
8 There were 200 people from Elizaphan’s clan who came, with Shemaiah their leader.
des fils d’Élitsaphan, Schemaeja le chef et ses frères, deux cents;
9 There were 80 people from Hebron’s clan who came, with Eliel their leader.
des fils d’Hébron, Éliel le chef et ses frères, quatre-vingts;
10 And there were 112 people from Uzziel’s clan who came, with Amminadab their leader.

11 David summoned the priests Zadok and Abiathar and these [other] descendants of Levi: Uriel, Asaiah, Joel, Shemaiah, Eliel, and Amminadab.
David appela les sacrificateurs Tsadok et Abiathar, et les Lévites Uriel, Asaja, Joël, Schemaeja, Éliel et Amminadab.
12 David said to them, “You are the leaders of the clans descended from Levi. You and the other descendants of Levi must purify yourselves, in order to [be able to do this special work for Yahweh. You must] bring the Sacred Chest of Yahweh, the God of us Israelis, up to the place that I have made for it [here in Jerusalem].
Il leur dit: Vous êtes les chefs de famille des Lévites; sanctifiez-vous, vous et vos frères, et faites monter à la place que je lui ai préparée l’arche de l’Éternel, du Dieu d’Israël.
13 The first time that we tried to bring it, we did not ask Yahweh how we should carry it {it should be carried}. You [descendants of Levi] were not the ones who carried it, so Yahweh our God punished us.”
Parce que vous n’y étiez pas la première fois, l’Éternel, notre Dieu, nous a frappés; car nous ne l’avons pas cherché selon la loi.
14 Then the priests and the [other] descendants of Levi [performed the rituals to] purify themselves, in order that it would be proper for them to do the work of carrying the Sacred Chest of Yahweh, the God of us Israeli people.
Les sacrificateurs et les Lévites se sanctifièrent pour faire monter l’arche de l’Éternel, du Dieu d’Israël.
15 The descendants of Levi [inserted] the poles [into the rings on] the Sacred Chest so that with them, they could carry the Sacred Chest on their shoulders, like Moses had commanded, and like Yahweh had said that they should.
Les fils des Lévites portèrent l’arche de Dieu sur leurs épaules avec des barres, comme Moïse l’avait ordonné d’après la parole de l’Éternel.
16 David told the leaders of the descendants of Levi to appoint some of their relatives to sing joyful songs and play lyres, harps, and cymbals [while they were carrying the Sacred Chest].
Et David dit aux chefs des Lévites de disposer leurs frères les chantres avec des instruments de musique, des luths, des harpes et des cymbales, qu’ils devaient faire retentir de sons éclatants en signe de réjouissance.
17 So they appointed Heman and his relatives Asaph and Ethan. Heman was the son of Joel; Asaph was the son of Berekiah. Ethan, a descendant of Merari, was Kushaiah’s son.
Les Lévites disposèrent Héman, fils de Joël; parmi ses frères, Asaph, fils de Bérékia; et parmi les fils de Merari, leurs frères, Éthan, fils de Kuschaja;
18 There was also another group of descendants of Levi who were appointed: Zechariah, Jaaziel, Shemiramoth, Jehiel, Unni, Eliab, Benaiah, Maaseiah, Mattithiah, Eliphelehu, Mikneiah, and two of the Sacred Tent gatekeepers, Obed-Edom and Jeiel.
puis avec eux leurs frères du second ordre Zacharie, Ben, Jaaziel, Schemiramoth, Jehiel, Unni, Éliab, Benaja, Maaséja, Matthithia, Éliphelé et Miknéja, et Obed-Édom et Jeïel, les portiers.
19 Heman, Asaph and Ethan sang, and also played bronze cymbals.
Les chantres Héman, Asaph et Éthan avaient des cymbales d’airain, pour les faire retentir.
20 Zechariah, Aziel, Shemiramoth, Jehiel, Unni, Eliab, Maaseiah, and Benaiah played lyres.
Zacharie, Aziel, Schemiramoth, Jehiel, Unni, Éliab, Maaséja et Benaja avaient des luths sur alamoth;
21 Mattithiah, Eliphelehu, Mikneiah, Obed-Edom, Jeiel and Azaziah played harps.
et Matthithia, Éliphelé, Miknéja, Obed-Édom, Jeïel et Azazia, avaient des harpes à huit cordes, pour conduire le chant.
22 Kenaniah, the leader of the descendants of Levi, directed the singing because he was very skilled at doing that.
Kenania, chef de musique parmi les Lévites, dirigeait la musique, car il était habile.
23 Berekiah and Elkanah were two of the men who guarded the Sacred Chest.
Bérékia et Elkana étaient portiers de l’arche.
24 The priests Shebaniah, Joshaphat, Nethanel, Amasai, Zechariah, Benaiah, and Eliezer were appointed to blow trumpets in front of the Sacred Chest. Obed-Edom and Jehiah also guarded the Sacred Chest.
Schebania, Josaphat, Nethaneel, Amasaï, Zacharie, Benaja et Éliézer, les sacrificateurs, sonnaient des trompettes devant l’arche de Dieu. Obed-Édom et Jechija étaient portiers de l’arche.
25 David and the Israeli leaders and the officers who commanded 1,000 soldiers went to bring the Sacred Chest back from Obed-Edom’s house. They were very joyful as they brought it to Jerusalem.
David, les anciens d’Israël, et les chefs de milliers se mirent en route pour faire monter l’arche de l’alliance de l’Éternel depuis la maison d’Obed-Édom, au milieu des réjouissances.
26 God helped the descendants of Levi who carried the Sacred Chest of Yahweh; therefore David and the leaders sacrificed seven bulls and seven (rams/male sheep) [to thank him].
Ce fut avec l’assistance de Dieu que les Lévites portèrent l’arche de l’alliance de l’Éternel; et l’on sacrifia sept taureaux et sept béliers.
27 All the descendants of Levi who carried the Sacred Chest, all the singers, and Kenaniah, the man who directed those who sang, wore robes of fine white linen and sacred vests made of fine linen. David also wore a sacred vest made of white linen.
David était revêtu d’un manteau de byssus; il en était de même de tous les Lévites qui portaient l’arche, des chantres, et de Kenania, chef de musique parmi les chantres; et David avait sur lui un éphod de lin.
28 So all of the Israeli people joined in bringing the Sacred Chest up [to Jerusalem]. They shouted [joyfully, while the musicians] blew horns and trumpets, and played cymbals, lyres, and harps.
Tout Israël fit monter l’arche de l’alliance de l’Éternel avec des cris de joie, au son des clairons, des trompettes et des cymbales, et en faisant retentir les luths et les harpes.
29 While they were bringing the Sacred Chest into Jerusalem, Saul’s daughter Michal watched them, looking out of a window. When she saw King David dancing and celebrating, she despised him.
Comme l’arche de l’alliance de l’Éternel entrait dans la cité de David, Mical, fille de Saül, regardait par la fenêtre, et voyant le roi David sauter et danser, elle le méprisa dans son cœur.
