1 Chronicles 15
1 David [commanded his workers to] build some houses for him in Jerusalem. He also told them to set up a tent in which to put the Sacred Chest.
Et il fit pour lui des maisons dans la ville de David, et prépara un lieu pour l’arche de Dieu, et tendit une tente pour elle.
2 He said, “Only the descendants of Levi are permitted to carry God’s Sacred Chest, because they are the ones whom God chose to carry it and to serve him forever.”
Alors David dit: Il ne convient pas que l’arche de Dieu soit portée par personne excepté les Lévites; car l’Éternel les a choisis pour porter l’arche de Dieu et pour en faire le service à toujours.
3 David summoned all the people of Israel to come to Jerusalem. He wanted the Sacred Chest of Yahweh to be put in the place that he had made for it.
Et David assembla tout Israël à Jérusalem, pour faire monter l’arche de l’Éternel au lieu qu’il lui avait préparé.
4 He summoned the descendants of Aaron, [who was the first Supreme Priest, ] and the other descendants of Levi.
Et David assembla les fils d’Aaron et les Lévites:
5 120 descendants of Kohath, who was Levi’s second son, came, with Uriel their leader.
des fils de Kehath, Uriel, le chef, et ses frères, 120 [hommes];
6 There were 220 descendants of Merari, Levi’s third son, who came, with Asaiah their leader.
des fils de Merari, Asçaïa, le chef, et ses frères, 220;
7 There were 130 descendants of Gershon, Levi’s first son, who came, with Joel their leader.
des fils de Guershom, Joël, le chef, et ses frères, 130;
8 There were 200 people from Elizaphan’s clan who came, with Shemaiah their leader.
des fils d’Élitsaphan, Shemahia, le chef, et ses frères, 200;
9 There were 80 people from Hebron’s clan who came, with Eliel their leader.

10 And there were 112 people from Uzziel’s clan who came, with Amminadab their leader.

11 David summoned the priests Zadok and Abiathar and these [other] descendants of Levi: Uriel, Asaiah, Joel, Shemaiah, Eliel, and Amminadab.
Et David appela Tsadok et Abiathar, les sacrificateurs, et les Lévites, Uriel, Asçaïa, et Joël, Shemahia, et Éliel, et Amminadab;
12 David said to them, “You are the leaders of the clans descended from Levi. You and the other descendants of Levi must purify yourselves, in order to [be able to do this special work for Yahweh. You must] bring the Sacred Chest of Yahweh, the God of us Israelis, up to the place that I have made for it [here in Jerusalem].
et il leur dit: Vous êtes les chefs des pères des Lévites; sanctifiez-vous, vous et vos frères, et faites monter l’arche de l’Éternel, le Dieu d’Israël, au [lieu que] je lui ai préparé.
13 The first time that we tried to bring it, we did not ask Yahweh how we should carry it {it should be carried}. You [descendants of Levi] were not the ones who carried it, so Yahweh our God punished us.”
Car, parce que vous ne l’avez pas [fait] la première fois, l’Éternel, notre Dieu, a fait une brèche parmi nous; car nous ne l’avons pas recherché conformément à l’ordonnance.
14 Then the priests and the [other] descendants of Levi [performed the rituals to] purify themselves, in order that it would be proper for them to do the work of carrying the Sacred Chest of Yahweh, the God of us Israeli people.
Et les sacrificateurs et les Lévites se sanctifièrent pour faire monter l’arche de l’Éternel, le Dieu d’Israël.
15 The descendants of Levi [inserted] the poles [into the rings on] the Sacred Chest so that with them, they could carry the Sacred Chest on their shoulders, like Moses had commanded, and like Yahweh had said that they should.
Et les fils des Lévites portèrent l’arche de Dieu sur leurs épaules, avec les barres sur eux, comme Moïse l’avait commandé, selon la parole de l’Éternel.
16 David told the leaders of the descendants of Levi to appoint some of their relatives to sing joyful songs and play lyres, harps, and cymbals [while they were carrying the Sacred Chest].
Et David dit aux chefs des Lévites d’établir leurs frères, les chantres, avec des instruments de musique, des luths, et des harpes, et des cymbales, qu’ils feraient retentir en élevant leur voix avec joie.
17 So they appointed Heman and his relatives Asaph and Ethan. Heman was the son of Joel; Asaph was the son of Berekiah. Ethan, a descendant of Merari, was Kushaiah’s son.
Et les Lévites établirent Héman, fils de Joël; et, d’entre ses frères, Asaph, fils de Bérékia; et, d’entre les fils de Merari, leurs frères, Éthan, fils de Kushaïa;
18 There was also another group of descendants of Levi who were appointed: Zechariah, Jaaziel, Shemiramoth, Jehiel, Unni, Eliab, Benaiah, Maaseiah, Mattithiah, Eliphelehu, Mikneiah, and two of the Sacred Tent gatekeepers, Obed-Edom and Jeiel.
et avec eux leurs frères du second rang: Zacharie, Ben, et Jaaziel, et Shemiramoth, et Jekhiel, et Unni, Éliab, et Benaïa, et Maascéïa, et Matthithia, et Éliphelé, et Miknéïa, et Obed-Édom, et Jehiel, les portiers.
19 Heman, Asaph and Ethan sang, and also played bronze cymbals.
Et les chantres, Héman, Asaph, et Éthan, avec des cymbales d’airain, pour les faire retentir;
20 Zechariah, Aziel, Shemiramoth, Jehiel, Unni, Eliab, Maaseiah, and Benaiah played lyres.
et Zacharie, et Aziel, et Shemiramoth, et Jekhiel, et Unni, et Éliab, et Maascéïa, et Benaïa, avec des luths, sur [le mode] d’Alamoth;
21 Mattithiah, Eliphelehu, Mikneiah, Obed-Edom, Jeiel and Azaziah played harps.
et Matthithia, et Éliphelé, et Miknéïa, et Obed-Édom, et Jehiel, et Azazia, avec des harpes sur [le mode] de Sheminith, pour diriger le chant.
22 Kenaniah, the leader of the descendants of Levi, directed the singing because he was very skilled at doing that.
Et Kenania, le chef des Lévites pour la musique, enseignait la musique; car il était intelligent.
23 Berekiah and Elkanah were two of the men who guarded the Sacred Chest.
Et Bérékia et Elkana étaient portiers pour l’arche.
24 The priests Shebaniah, Joshaphat, Nethanel, Amasai, Zechariah, Benaiah, and Eliezer were appointed to blow trumpets in front of the Sacred Chest. Obed-Edom and Jehiah also guarded the Sacred Chest.
Et Shebania, et Josaphat, et Nethaneël, et Amasçaï, et Zacharie, et Benaïa, et Éliézer, les sacrificateurs, sonnaient avec des trompettes devant l’arche de Dieu; et Obed-Édom et Jekhija étaient portiers pour l’arche.
25 David and the Israeli leaders and the officers who commanded 1,000 soldiers went to bring the Sacred Chest back from Obed-Edom’s house. They were very joyful as they brought it to Jerusalem.
Et David, et les anciens d’Israël, et les chefs de milliers, allèrent pour faire monter l’arche de l’alliance de l’Éternel, de la maison d’Obed-Édom, avec joie:
26 God helped the descendants of Levi who carried the Sacred Chest of Yahweh; therefore David and the leaders sacrificed seven bulls and seven (rams/male sheep) [to thank him].
et il arriva que, quand Dieu aida les Lévites qui portaient l’arche de l’alliance de l’Éternel, ils sacrifièrent sept veaux et sept béliers.
27 All the descendants of Levi who carried the Sacred Chest, all the singers, and Kenaniah, the man who directed those who sang, wore robes of fine white linen and sacred vests made of fine linen. David also wore a sacred vest made of white linen.
Et David était vêtu d’une robe de byssus, ainsi que tous les Lévites qui portaient l’arche, et les chantres, et Kenania, le chef de la musique des chantres; et David avait sur lui un éphod de lin.
28 So all of the Israeli people joined in bringing the Sacred Chest up [to Jerusalem]. They shouted [joyfully, while the musicians] blew horns and trumpets, and played cymbals, lyres, and harps.
Et tout Israël faisait monter l’arche de l’alliance de l’Éternel avec des cris de joie, et au son du cor, et avec des trompettes et des cymbales, et en faisant retentir des luths et des harpes.
29 While they were bringing the Sacred Chest into Jerusalem, Saul’s daughter Michal watched them, looking out of a window. When she saw King David dancing and celebrating, she despised him.
Et comme l’arche de l’alliance de l’Éternel arrivait à la ville de David, Mical, fille de Saül, regarda par la fenêtre, et elle vit le roi David sautant et jouant, et elle le méprisa dans son cœur.
