Matthew 23
1 Then Jesus said to the crowds and to his disciples,
೧ತರುವಾಯ ಯೇಸು ಜನರ ಗುಂಪಿಗೂ ಹಾಗು ತನ್ನ ಶಿಷ್ಯರಿಗೂ ಹೇಳಿದ್ದೇನೆಂದರೆ,
2 “The scribes and the Pharisees sit on Moses' seat.
೨“ಶಾಸ್ತ್ರಿಗಳೂ ಫರಿಸಾಯರೂ ಮೋಶೆಯ ಸ್ಥಾನದಲ್ಲಿಕುಳಿತುಕೊಂಡಿದ್ದಾರೆ;
3 Therefore observe and do all that they tell you to observe. But do not do what they do, for they say things and do not do them.
೩ಆದುದರಿಂದ ಅವರು ನಿಮಗೆ ಏನೆಲ್ಲಾ ಆಜ್ಞಾಪಿಸುತ್ತಾರೋ ಅದನ್ನೆಲ್ಲಾ ಕೈಕೊಂಡು ನಡೆಯಿರಿ; ಆದರೆ ಅವರ ಕ್ರಿಯೆಗಳ ಪ್ರಕಾರ ನಡೆಯಬೇಡಿರಿ; ಅವರು ಹೇಳುತ್ತಾರೆಯೇ ಹೊರತು ಅದರಂತೆ ನಡೆಯುವುದಿಲ್ಲ.
4 They bind burdens that are heavy and hard to bear and lay them on people's shoulders, but they themselves are not willing to lift a finger to move them.
೪ಅವರು ಭಾರವಾದ ಹೊರೆಗಳನ್ನು ಕಟ್ಟಿ ಜನರ ಹೆಗಲಿನ ಮೇಲೆ ಹೊರಿಸುತ್ತಾರೆ; ಆದರೆ ತಾವಾದರೋ ಬೆರಳಿನಿಂದಲಾದರೂ ಅವುಗಳನ್ನುಮುಟ್ಟಲೊಲ್ಲರು.
5 They do all their works to be seen by others. They make their phylacteries wide and the fringes of their garments long.
೫ಅವರು ತಮ್ಮ ಕೆಲಸಗಳನ್ನೆಲ್ಲಾ ಜನರು ನೋಡಬೇಕೆಂದು ಮಾಡುತ್ತಾರೆ. ತಾವು ಕಟ್ಟಿಕೊಳ್ಳುವಜ್ಞಾಪಕಪಟ್ಟಿಗಳನ್ನು ಅಗಲಮಾಡುತ್ತಾರೆ. ತಮ್ಮ ವಸ್ತ್ರಗಳ ಗೊಂಡೆಗಳನ್ನು ಉದ್ದಮಾಡಿಕೊಳ್ಳುತ್ತಾರೆ.
6 They love the place of honor at banquets, the best seats in the synagogues,
೬ಇದಲ್ಲದೆ ಔತಣ ಉತ್ಸವಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರಥಮಸ್ಥಾನ, ಸಭಾಮಂದಿರಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಮುಖ್ಯ ಪೀಠಗಳು;
7 greetings in the marketplaces, and when others call them ‘Rabbi, Rabbi.’
೭ಅಂಗಡಿ ಬೀದಿಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ನಮಸ್ಕಾರಗಳು, ಜನರಿಂದ ‘ಗುರುಗಳೆನ್ನಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳುವುದು,’ ಇವುಗಳೇ ಅವರಿಗೆ ಇಷ್ಟ.
8 But you are not to be called ‘Rabbi,’ for there is one who is your instructor, the Christ, and you are all brothers.
೮ಆದರೆ ನೀವು ‘ಬೋಧಕರೆನ್ನಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳಬೇಡಿರಿ;’ ಏಕೆಂದರೆ ಕ್ರಿಸ್ತನೊಬ್ಬನೇ ನಿಮಗಿರುವ ಬೋಧಕನು ಮತ್ತು ನೀವೆಲ್ಲರೂ ಸಹೋದರರು.
9 And do not call anyone on earth your father, for there is one who is your Father, he who is in heaven.
೯ಇದಲ್ಲದೆ ಭೂಲೋಕದಲ್ಲಿ ಯಾರನ್ನೂ ನಿಮ್ಮ ತಂದೆ ಎಂದು ಕರೆಯಬೇಡಿರಿ; ಏಕೆಂದರೆ ಪರಲೋಕದಲ್ಲಿರುವಾತನೊಬ್ಬನೇ ನಿಮ್ಮ ತಂದೆ
10 Neither are you to be called instructors, for there is one who is your instructor, the Christ.
೧೦ಮತ್ತು ‘ಗುರುವೆಂದು’ ಅನ್ನಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳಬೇಡಿರಿ; ಏಕೆಂದರೆ, ಕ್ರಿಸ್ತನೊಬ್ಬನೇ ನಿಮಗಿರುವ ಗುರುವು
11 But he who is greater among you must be your servant.
೧೧ಆದರೆನಿಮ್ಮಲ್ಲಿ ಹೆಚ್ಚಿನವನು ನಿಮ್ಮ ಸೇವಕನಾಗಿರಬೇಕು.
12 For whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted.
೧೨ತನ್ನನ್ನು ಹೆಚ್ಚಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳುವವನು ತಗ್ಗಿಸಲ್ಪಡುವನು, ತನ್ನನ್ನು ತಗ್ಗಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳುವವನು ಹೆಚ್ಚಿಸಲ್ಪಡುವನು.
13 “But woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you devour widows' houses and for a pretense make long prayers. Therefore you will receive a more severe judgment.
೧೩“ಅಯ್ಯೋ, ಕಪಟಿಗಳಾದ ಶಾಸ್ತ್ರಿಗಳೇ, ಫರಿಸಾಯರೇ, ಪರಲೋಕ ರಾಜ್ಯದ ಬಾಗಿಲನ್ನು ಮನುಷ್ಯರ ಎದುರಿಗೆ ಮುಚ್ಚಿಬಿಡುತ್ತೀರಿ. ನೀವಂತೂ ಒಳಕ್ಕೆ ಪ್ರವೇಶಿಸುವುದಿಲ್ಲ, ಒಳಕ್ಕೆ ಪ್ರವೇಶಿಸಬೇಕೆಂದಿರುವವರನ್ನೂ ಪ್ರವೇಶಿಸಗೊಡಿಸುವುದೂ ಇಲ್ಲ.
14 “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you shut the kingdom of heaven in people's faces. You yourselves do not enter, nor do you let in those who are trying to enter.
೧೪ಅಯ್ಯೋ, ಕಪಟಿಗಳಾದಶಾಸ್ತ್ರಿಗಳೇ, ಫರಿಸಾಯರೇ ಜನರು ನೋಡಬೇಕೆಂದು ಉದ್ದವಾದ ಪ್ರಾರ್ಥನೆಗಳನ್ನು ಮಾಡುತ್ತೀರೀ. ನೀವು ವಿಧವೆಯರ ಮನೆಗಳನ್ನು ನುಂಗಿ ನಟನೆಮಾಡುತ್ತೀರಿ. ಆದುದರಿಂದ ನೀವು ಹೆಚ್ಚಿನ ದಂಡನೆಯನ್ನು ಹೊಂದುವಿರಿ.
15 “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you cross sea and land to make a single convert, and when he has become one, you make him twice as much a son of hell as yourselves. (Geenna g1067)
೧೫“ಅಯ್ಯೋ, ಕಪಟಿಗಳಾದ ಶಾಸ್ತ್ರಿಗಳೇ, ಫರಿಸಾಯರೇ, ನೀವು ಒಬ್ಬ ಮನುಷ್ಯನನ್ನು ಮತಾಂತರಗೊಳ್ಳಿಸುವುದಕ್ಕಾಗಿ ಭೂಮಿಯನ್ನೂ ಸಮುದ್ರವನ್ನೂ ಸುತ್ತಾಡಿಕೊಂಡು ಬರುತ್ತೀರಿ; ಅವನು ನಿಮ್ಮ ಮತಕ್ಕೆ ಸೇರಿದ ಮೇಲೆ ಅವನನ್ನು ನಿಮಗಿಂತ ಎರಡರಷ್ಟು ನರಕಕ್ಕೆ ಪಾತ್ರನಾಗಮಾಡುತ್ತೀರಿ. (Geenna g1067)
16 “Woe to you, blind guides, who say, ‘If anyone swears by the temple, it is nothing; but if anyone swears by the gold of the temple, he is bound by his oath.’
೧೬“ಅಯ್ಯೋ, ಕುರುಡು ಮಾರ್ಗದರ್ಶಿಗಳೇ, ‘ಒಬ್ಬನು ದೇವಾಲಯದ ಮೇಲೆ ಆಣೆಯಿಟ್ಟುಕೊಂಡರೆ ಅದೇನು ಆಣೆಯಲ್ಲ ಅನ್ನುತ್ತೀರಿ. ಆದರೆ ಒಬ್ಬನು ದೇವಾಲಯದ ಚಿನ್ನದ ಮೇಲೆ ಆಣೆಯಿಟ್ಟುಕೊಂಡರೆ ಅದನ್ನು ನಡಿಸಲೇಬೇಕು’ ಎಂದು ಹೇಳುತ್ತೀರಿ.
17 You fools and blind men! Which is greater, the gold or the temple that makes the gold sacred?
೧೭ಕುರುಡರೇ, ಮೂರ್ಖರೇ, ಯಾವುದು ಹೆಚ್ಚಿನದು? ಚಿನ್ನವೋ, ಚಿನ್ನವನ್ನು ಪ್ರತಿಷ್ಠೆ ಮಾಡುವ ದೇವಾಲಯವೋ?
18 You also say, ‘If anyone swears by the altar, it is nothing; but if anyone swears by the gift on the altar, he is bound by his oath.’
೧೮ಮತ್ತು ‘ಒಬ್ಬನು ಯಜ್ಞವೇದಿಯ ಮೇಲೆ ಆಣೆಯಿಟ್ಟುಕೊಂಡರೆ ಅದೇನು ಆಣೆಯಲ್ಲ ಅನ್ನುತ್ತೀರಿ, ಆದರೆ ಅದರಲ್ಲಿರುವ ಕಾಣಿಕೆಯ ಮೇಲೆ ಆಣೆಯಿಟ್ಟುಕೊಂಡರೆ ಅದನ್ನು ನಡಿಸಲೇಬೇಕು’ ಎಂದು ಹೇಳುತ್ತೀರಿ.
19 You fools and blind men! Which is greater, the gift or the altar that makes the gift sacred?
೧೯ಕುರುಡರೇ, ಮೂರ್ಖರೇ, ಯಾವುದು ಹೆಚ್ಚಿನದು? ಕಾಣಿಕೆಯೋ, ಆ ಕಾಣಿಕೆಯನ್ನು ಪ್ರತಿಷ್ಠೆ ಮಾಡುವ ಯಜ್ಞವೇದಿಯೋ?
20 Therefore, whoever swears by the altar swears by it and by everything on it.
೨೦ಹೀಗಿರುವುದರಿಂದ ಯಾವನಾದರೂ ಯಜ್ಞವೇದಿಯ ಮೇಲೆ ಆಣೆಯಿಟ್ಟುಕೊಂಡರೆ ಅದರ ಮೇಲೆಯೂ, ಅದರಲ್ಲಿರುವ ಎಲ್ಲದರ ಮೇಲೆಯೂ ಆಣೆಯಿಟ್ಟುಕೊಂಡ ಹಾಗಾಯಿತು.
21 And whoever swears by the temple swears by it and by him who dwells in it.
೨೧ಮತ್ತು ಯಾವನಾದರೂ ದೇವಾಲಯದ ಮೇಲೆ ಆಣೆಯಿಟ್ಟುಕೊಂಡರೆ ಅದರ ಮೇಲೆಯೂ, ಅದರಲ್ಲಿ ವಾಸಮಾಡುವಾತನ ಮೇಲೆಯೂ ಆಣೆಯಿಟ್ಟುಕೊಂಡ ಹಾಗಾಯಿತು.
22 And whoever swears by heaven swears by the throne of God and by him who sits upon it.
೨೨ಮತ್ತು ಪರಲೋಕದ ಮೇಲೆ ಆಣೆಯಿಟ್ಟುಕೊಂಡರೆ ದೇವರ ಸಿಂಹಾಸನದ ಮೇಲೆಯೂ ಅದರಲ್ಲಿ ಕುಳಿತಿರುವಾತನ ಮೇಲೆಯೂ ಆಣೆಯಿಟ್ಟುಕೊಂಡ ಹಾಗಾಯಿತು.
23 “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you tithe mint, dill, and cumin, yet you have neglected the weightier matters of the law: justice, mercy, and faith. These you ought to have done without neglecting the others.
೨೩ಅಯ್ಯೋ, ಕಪಟಿಗಳಾದ ಶಾಸ್ತ್ರಿಗಳೇ, ಫರಿಸಾಯರೇ, ನೀವು ಪುದೀನ, ಮರುಗಪತ್ರೆ, ಸಬಸಿಗೆಸೊಪ್ಪು, ಜೀರಿಗೆಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ದಶಮ ಭಾಗವನ್ನು ಕೊಡುತ್ತೀರಿ ಸರಿ, ಆದರೆ ಧರ್ಮಶಾಸ್ತ್ರದಲ್ಲಿ ಮುಖ್ಯವಾದುದನ್ನು ಅಂದರೆ ನ್ಯಾಯವನ್ನೂ, ಕರುಣೆಯನ್ನೂ ನಂಬಿಕೆಯನ್ನೂ ಬಿಟ್ಟುಬಿಟ್ಟಿದ್ದೀರಿ. ಇವುಗಳನ್ನು ಮಾಡಬೇಕು; ಅವುಗಳನ್ನೂ ಬಿಡಬಾರದು.
24 You blind guides, who strain out a gnat but swallow a camel!
೨೪ಕುರುಡ ಮಾರ್ಗದರ್ಶಿಗಳೇ, ನೀವುಸೊಳ್ಳೇ ಸೋಸುವವರು, ಆದರೆ ಒಂಟೆ ನುಂಗುವವರು.
25 “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you cleanse the outside of the cup and the dish, but inside they are full of plunder and unrighteousness.
೨೫“ಅಯ್ಯೋ, ಕಪಟಿಗಳಾದ ಶಾಸ್ತ್ರಿಗಳೇ, ಫರಿಸಾಯರೇ, ನೀವು ಪಾತ್ರೆ, ಬಟ್ಟಲು ಇವುಗಳ ಹೊರಭಾಗವನ್ನು ಶುಚಿಮಾಡುತ್ತೀರಿ ಆದರೆ ಅವುಗಳ ಒಳಗೆ ಸುಲಿಗೆಯಿಂದಲೂ, ದುರಾಶೆಯಿಂದಲೂ ತುಂಬಿರುತ್ತವೆ.
26 Yoʋ blind Pharisee! First clean the inside of the cup and the dish, and then the outside of them will also be clean.
೨೬ಕುರುಡನಾದ ಫರಿಸಾಯನೇ, ಮೊದಲು ಪಾತ್ರೆ ಬಟ್ಟಲುಗಳ ಒಳಭಾಗವನ್ನು ಶುಚಿಮಾಡು, ಆಗ ಅವುಗಳ ಹೊರಭಾಗವೂ ಶುಚಿಯಾಗುವುದು.
27 “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you are like whitewashed tombs, which appear beautiful on the outside, but inside they are full of the bones of the dead and all uncleanness.
೨೭“ಅಯ್ಯೋ, ಕಪಟಿಗಳಾದ ಶಾಸ್ತ್ರಿಗಳೇ, ಫರಿಸಾಯರೇ ನೀವು ಸುಣ್ಣಾ ಹಚ್ಚಿದ ಸಮಾಧಿಗಳಿಗೆ ಹೋಲಿಕೆಯಾಗಿದ್ದೀರಿ; ಇವು ಹೊರಗೆ ಸುಂದರವಾಗಿ ಕಾಣುತ್ತವೆ. ಒಳಗೆ ನೋಡಿದರೆ ಸತ್ತವರ ಎಲುಬುಗಳಿಂದಲೂ ಎಲ್ಲಾ ಹೊಲಸಿನಿಂದಲೂ ತುಂಬಿರುತ್ತವೆ.
28 In the same way, you also appear righteous to others on the outside, but inside you are full of hypocrisy and lawlessness.
೨೮ಹಾಗೆಯೇ ನೀವು ಸಹ ಹೊರಗೆ ಜನರಿಗೆ ನೀತಿವಂತರಂತೆ ಕಾಣಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳುತ್ತೀರಿ. ಆದರೆ ಒಳಗೆ ಕಪಟ ಮತ್ತು ಅಕ್ರಮದಿಂದ ತುಂಬಿದವರಾಗಿದ್ದೀರಿ.
29 “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you build the tombs of the prophets and adorn the graves of the righteous,
೨೯ಅಯ್ಯೋ, ಕಪಟಿಗಳಾದ ಶಾಸ್ತ್ರಿಗಳೇ, ಫರಿಸಾಯರೇ, ನೀವು ಪ್ರವಾದಿಗಳ ಸಮಾಧಿಗಳನ್ನು ಕಟ್ಟಿ, ನೀತಿವಂತರ ಗೋರಿಗಳನ್ನು ಅಲಂಕರಿಸಿ,
30 and you say, ‘If we had been alive in the days of our fathers, we would not have been participants with them in shedding the blood of the prophets.’
೩೦‘ನಾವು ನಮ್ಮ ಹಿರಿಯರ ಕಾಲದಲ್ಲಿ ಇದ್ದಿದ್ದರೆ ಪ್ರವಾದಿಗಳನ್ನು ಕೊಂದ ಪಾಪದಲ್ಲಿ ಪಾಲುಗಾರರಾಗುತ್ತಿರಲಿಲ್ಲ’ ಅನ್ನುತ್ತೀರಿ.
31 Therefore you bear witness against yourselves that you are the sons of those who murdered the prophets.
೩೧ಹಾಗಾದರೆ ನೀವು ಪ್ರವಾದಿಗಳನ್ನು ಕೊಂದವರ ಮಕ್ಕಳೇ ಹೌದು ಎಂಬುದಕ್ಕೆ ನಿಮಗೆ ನೀವೇ ಸಾಕ್ಷಿಗಳಾಗಿದ್ದೀರಿ.
32 Fill up, then, the measure of your fathers.
೩೨ಒಳ್ಳೆಯದು, ನೀವು ನಿಮ್ಮ ಹಿರಿಯರ ಪಾಪದ ಅಳತೆಯನ್ನು ಪೂರ್ತಿಮಾಡುತ್ತೀರಿ.
೩೩ಹಾವುಗಳೇ, ಸರ್ಪಜಾತಿಯವರೇ, ನರಕದಂಡನೆಯಿಂದ ಹೇಗೆ ನೀವು ತಪ್ಪಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳುವಿರಿ? (Geenna g1067)
34 Therefore, behold, I am sending you prophets, sages, and scribes. Some of them you will kill and crucify, and some of them you will flog in your synagogues and persecute from town to town.
೩೪ಆದುದರಿಂದ ನೋಡಿರಿ, ನಾನು ನಿಮ್ಮ ಬಳಿಗೆ ಪ್ರವಾದಿಗಳನ್ನೂ ಜ್ಞಾನಿಗಳನ್ನೂ ಶಾಸ್ತ್ರಿಗಳನ್ನೂ ಕಳುಹಿಸುತ್ತೇನೆ; ಅವರಲ್ಲಿ ಕೆಲವರನ್ನು ನೀವು ಕೊಲ್ಲುವಿರಿ, ಶಿಲುಬೆಗೆ ಹಾಕುವಿರಿ; ಕೆಲವರನ್ನು ನಿಮ್ಮ ಸಭಾಮಂದಿರಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಚಾಟಿಗಳಿಂದ ಹೊಡೆದು ಊರಿಂದ ಊರಿಗೆ ಅಟ್ಟಿಕೊಂಡು ಹೋಗುವಿರಿ.
35 As a result, all the righteous blood that has been shed on earth will come upon you, from the blood of righteous Abel to the blood of Zechariah son of Barachiah, whom you murdered between the temple and the altar.
೩೫ಹೀಗೆ ನೀತಿವಂತನಾದ ಹೇಬೆಲನ ರಕ್ತವು ಮೊದಲುಗೊಂಡು ನೀವು ದೇವಾಲಯಕ್ಕೂ ಯಜ್ಞವೇದಿಗೂ ನಡುವೆ ಕೊಂದು ಹಾಕಿದ ಬರಕೀಯನ ಮಗನಾದ ಜಕರೀಯನ ರಕ್ತದವರೆಗೂ ಭೂಮಿಯ ಮೇಲೆ ಸುರಿಸಲ್ಪಟ್ಟ ಎಲ್ಲಾ ನೀತಿವಂತರ ರಕ್ತಸುರಿಸಿದ ಅಪರಾಧವು ನಿಮ್ಮ ತಲೆಯ ಮೇಲೆ ಬರುವುದು.
36 Truly I say to you, all these things will come upon this generation.
೩೬ಇದೆಲ್ಲಾ ಈ ಸಂತತಿಯವರ ಮೇಲೆ ಬರುವುದೆಂದು ನಿಮಗೆ ಸತ್ಯವಾಗಿ ಹೇಳುತ್ತೇನೆ.
37 “O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the city that kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to yoʋ! How often I have wanted to gather yoʋr children together as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but you were not willing!
೩೭“ಯೆರೂಸಲೇಮೇ, ಯೆರೂಸಲೇಮೇ, ಪ್ರವಾದಿಗಳ ಪ್ರಾಣತೆಗೆಯುವವಳೇ, ದೇವರು ನಿನ್ನ ಬಳಿಗೆ ಕಳುಹಿಸಿಕೊಟ್ಟವರನ್ನು ಕಲ್ಲೆಸೆದು ಕೊಲ್ಲುವವಳೇ! ಕೋಳಿ ತನ್ನ ಮರಿಗಳನ್ನು ರೆಕ್ಕೆಗಳ ಕೆಳಗೆ ಹುದುಗಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳುವಂತೆ ನಿನ್ನ ಮಕ್ಕಳನ್ನು ಸೇರಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳಲು ನನಗೆ ಎಷ್ಟೋ ಸಾರಿ ಮನಸ್ಸಿತ್ತು; ಆದರೆ ನಿನಗೆ ಮನಸ್ಸಿಲ್ಲದೆ ಹೋಯಿತು.
38 Behold, your house is left to you desolate.
೩೮ನೋಡಿರಿ, ನಿಮ್ಮ ಮನೆಯು ನಿಮಗೆ ಬರಿದಾಗಿ ಬಿಡುತ್ತದೆ.
39 For I tell you, from now on you will certainly not see me until you say, ‘Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.’”
೩೯ಈಗಿಂದ, ‘ಕರ್ತನ ಹೆಸರಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಬರುವವನು ಧನ್ಯನು ಎಂದು ನೀವಾಗಿ ನೀವು ಹೇಳುವ ತನಕ ನೀವು ನನ್ನನ್ನು ನೋಡುವುದೇ ಇಲ್ಲವೆಂದು ನಿಮಗೆ ಹೇಳುತ್ತೇನೆ’” ಅಂದನು.
