< Luke 4 >

1 And Jesus, being full of the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan. And the Spirit led him into the wilderness,
Yesuus Hafuura Qulqulluudhaan guutamee Yordaanosii kaʼee Hafuuruma sanaan gammoojjiitti geeffame;
2 forty days, to be tempted by the Calumniator. And during those days, he ate nothing; and when he had completed them, he was at last hungry.

3 And the Calumniator said to him: If thou art the Son of God, command this stone to become bread.
Diiyaabiloosis, “Ati yoo Ilma Waaqaa taate, akka dhagaan kun buddeena taʼu ajaji” jedheen.
4 Jesus replied, and said to him: It is written, Not by bread only, doth man live; but by every thing of God.
Yesuus immoo deebisee, “‘Namni buddeena qofaan hin jiraatu’jedhamee barreeffameera” jedheen.
5 And Satan conducted him to a high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the land, in a little time.

6 And the Calumniator said to him: To thee will I give all this dominion, and the glory of it, which is committed to me, and to whom I please, I give it:
Akkanas jedheen; “Ani taayitaa isaaniitii fi ulfina isaanii hundumaa siifin kenna; taayitaa fi ulfinni kun waan naa kennameef ani abbaa kennuufii barbaadeef kennuu nan dandaʼa.
7 if therefore thou wilt worship before me, the whole shall be thine.
Yoo ati naa sagadde, wanni kun hundinuu kan kee taʼa.”
8 But Jesus replied, and said to him: It is written Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.
Yesuus immoo, “‘Waaqa kee Gooftichaaf sagadi, isuma qofa tajaajili’jedhamee barreeffameera” jedhee deebiseef.
9 And he brought him to Jerusalem, and set him on a pinnacle of the temple, and said to him: If thou art the Son of God, cast thyself down hence:
Diiyaabiloosis Yerusaalemitti isa geessee, fiixee mana qulqullummaa irra dhaabachiise. Akkanas jedheen; “Ati yoo Ilma Waaqaa taate, asii gad of darbadhu.
10 for it is written, He will give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee:
Akkana jedhamee barreeffameeraatii: “‘Inni akka isaan sirriitti si eeganiif, ergamoota isaa siif ni ajaja;
11 and in their arms will they sustain thee, lest thou strike thy foot against a stone.
isaanis akka ati miilla keetiin dhagaatti hin buuneef, harka isaaniitiin ol si fuudhu.’”
12 And Jesus replied and said to him: It is said, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.
Yesuus immoo deebisee, “‘Waaqa kee Goofticha hin qorin’jedhameera” jedheen.
13 And when the Calumniator had finished all his temptations, he departed from him for a time.

Innis Naazreeti iddoo itti guddate dhaqe; guyyaa Sanbataas akkuma amala isaa mana sagadaa seene. Kitaaba dubbisuufis kaʼee dhaabate;
17 And there was delivered to him the book of Isaiah the prophet. And Jesus opened the book, and found the place where it is written:
kitaabni raajicha Isaayyaas isatti kenname. Innis kitaabicha banee kutaa akkana jedhamee barreeffame argate:
18 The Spirit of the Lord is upon me; and therefore he hath anointed me to proclaim tidings to the poor; and hath sent me to heal the contrite in heart, and to proclaim release to the captives, and sight to the blind; and to send away the contrite with forgiveness of their sins;
“Hafuurri Gooftaa narra jira; akka ani hiyyeeyyiitti oduu gaarii lallabuuf, inni na dibeeraatii. Inni akka ani akka warri hidhaman hiikaman, akka warri jaaman argan, akka warri cunqurfamanis bilisa baʼan lallabuuf na ergeera;
19 and to proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord.

20 And he rolled up the book, and gave it to the servitor, and went and sat down. And the eyes of all in the synagogue were gazing upon him.

22 And all bare him witness, and admired the gracious words which proceeded from his mouth; and they said: Is not this the son of Joseph?

23 Jesus said to them: Perhaps, ye will speak to me this proverb, Physician, heal thyself: and whatever we have heard of thy doing in Capernaum, do thou here also in thy city.
Yesuusis, “Akka isin, ‘Yaa abbaa qorichaa, of fayyisi! Waan Qifirnaahomitti hojjechuu kee dhageenye sana as biyya keettis hojjedhu’ jettanii natti mammaaktan ani shakkii hin qabu” isaaniin jedhe.
24 And he said to them: Verily I say to you, There is no prophet who is acceptable in his own city.
Innis itti fufee akkana jedhe; “Ani dhuguma isinitti nan hima; raajiin tokko iyyuu iddoo itti dhalatetti fudhatama hin qabu.
25 And I tell you the truth, that there were many widows in the house of Israel, in the days of Elijah the prophet, when the heavens were closed up three years and six months, and there was a great famine in all the land:
Ani dhuguman isiniin jedha; bara Eeliyaas yeroo samiin waggaa sadii fi walakkaa cufamee beelli hamaan buʼeetti haadhota hiyyeessaa baayʼeetu Israaʼel keessa ture.

34 and said: Let me alone: What have I to do with thee, Jesus, thou Nazarean? Hast thou come to destroy us? I know thee, who thou art, the Holy One of God.
“Uffi! Yaa Yesuus nama Naazreeti, ati maal nurraa qabda? Nu balleessuu dhufte moo? Ati eenyu akka taate ani nan beeka, yaa Qulqullicha Waaqaa!”
35 And Jesus rebuked him, and said: Shut thy mouth; and come out of him. And the demon threw him down in the midst, and came out of him, having not harmed him at all.
Yesuus immoo, “Calʼisii isa keessaa baʼi!” jedhee ifate. Hafuurri hamaan sunis isaan hunda duratti namicha kuffisee utuu hin miidhin isa keessaa baʼe.

Oduun waaʼee isaas biyya naannoo sanaa guutuu keessa faffacaʼe.
38 And when Jesus went out of the synagogue, he entered the house of Simon. And the mother-in-law of Simon was afflicted with a severe fever: and they besought him in her behalf.
