Luke 3
1 And in the fifteenth year of the reign of Tiberius Caesar, in the presidency of Pontius Pilate in Judaea, while Herod was Tetrarch in Galilee, and Philip his brother Tetrarch in Ituraea and in the region of Trachonitis, and Lysanias Tetrarch of Abilene,
I femtonde året av kejsar Tiberius' regering, när Pontius Pilatus var landshövding i Judeen, och Herodes var landsfurste i Galileen, och hans broder Filippus landsfurste i Itureen och Trakonitis-landet, och Lysanias landsfurste i Abilene,
2 in the high priesthood of Annas and of Caiaphas; the word of God was upon John the son of Zachariah, in the wilderness.
på den tid då Hannas var överstepräst jämte Kaifas -- då kom Guds befallning till Johannes, Sakarias' son, i öknen;
3 And he came into all the region about the Jordan, proclaiming the baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins.
och han gick åstad och predikade i hela trakten omkring Jordan bättringens döpelse till syndernas förlåtelse.
4 As it is written in the book of the discourses of Isaiah the prophet, who said: The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord; and make straight paths in the plain for our God.
Så uppfylldes vad som var skrivet i profeten Esaias' utsagors bok: "Hör rösten av en som ropar i öknen: Bereden vägen för Herren, gören stigarna jämna för honom.
5 All valleys shall be filled up, and all mountains and hills be lowered; and the hillock shall be levelled down, and the rough place become smooth.
Alla dalar skola fyllas och alla berg och höjder sänkas; vad krokigt är skall bliva rak väg, och vad oländigt är skall bliva släta stigar;
6 And all flesh shall see the life which is of God.
och allt kött skall se Guds frälsning.'"
7 And he said to the multitudes, who came to him to be baptized: Ye progeny of vipers, who hath instructed you to flee from the future wrath?
Han sade nu till folket som kom ut för att låta döpa sig av honom: "I huggormars avföda, vem har ingivit eder att söka komma undan den tillstundande vredesdomen?
8 Bring forth, therefore, fruits comporting, with repentance. And begin not to say in yourselves: We have Abraham for our father; for I say to you, that God can, from these stones, raise up sons to Abraham.
Bären då ock sådan frukt som tillhör bättringen. Och sägen icke vid eder själva: 'Vi hava ju Abraham till fader'; Ty jag säger eder att Gud av dessa stenar kan uppväcka barn åt Abraham.
9 And lo, the ax is put to the root of trees. Every tree therefore that beareth not good fruits, is hewed down, and falleth into the fire.
Redan är också yxan satt till roten på träden; så bliver då vart träd som icke bär god frukt avhugget och kastat på elden.
10 And the multitudes asked him, and said: What, then, shall we do?
Och folket frågade honom och sade: "Vad skola vi då göra?"
11 He answered and said to them: Whoever hath two tunics, let him give one to him that hath none; and whoever hath food, let him do the same.
Han svarade och sade till dem: "Den som har två livklädnader, han dele med sig åt den som icke har någon; och en som har matförråd, han göre sammalunda."
12 And publicans also came to be baptized. And they said to him: Teacher, what shall we do?
Så kommo ock publikaner för att låta döpa sig, och de sade till honom: "Mästare, vad skola vi göra?"
13 And he said to them: Exact no more than ye are required to exact.
Han svarade dem: "Kräven icke ut mer än vad som är eder föreskrivet."
14 And those serving in war inquired of him, and said: And what shall we do? He said to them: Be insolent to no one, and oppress no one, and let your pay satisfy you.
Också krigsmän frågade honom och sade: "Vad skola då vi göra? Han svarade dem: "Tilltvingen eder icke penningar av någon, genom hot eller på annat otillbörligt sätt, utan låten eder nöja med eder sold."
15 And while the people were thinking of John, and all pondered in their heart, whether he were the Messiah;
Och folket gick där i förbidan, och alla undrade i sina hjärtan om Johannes icke till äventyrs vore Messias.
16 John answered and said to them: Behold, I baptize you with water; but after me cometh one mightier than I, the strings of whose shoes I am not worthy to untie; he will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire.
Men Johannes tog till orda och sade: till dem alla: "Jag döper eder med vatten, men den som kommer, som är starkare än jag, den vilkens skorem jag icke är värdig att upplösa; han skall döpa eder i helig ande och eld.
17 He holdeth his winnowing shovel in his hand, and he will make clean his threshing floor; and the wheat he gathereth into his garners, and the chaff he will burn with fire not extinguished.
Han har sin kastskovel i handen, ty han vill noga rensa sin loge och samla in vetet i sin lada; men agnarna skall han bränna upp i en eld som icke utsläckes."
18 And many other things also, he taught and proclaimed to the people.
Så förmanade han folket också i många andra stycken och förkunnade evangelium för dem.
19 But Herod the Tetrarch, because he was reproved by John, on account of Herodias the wife of his brother Philip, and on account of all the evil things he had done,
Men när han hade förehållit Herodes, landsfursten, hans synd i fråga om hans broders hustru Herodias och förehållit honom allt det onda som han eljest hade gjort,
20 added this also to them all, that he shut up John in prison.

21 And it occurred, when all the people were baptized, that Jesus also was baptized. And as he prayed, the heavens were opened;
När nu allt folket lät döpa sig och jämväl Jesus blev döpt, så skedde därvid, medan han bad, att himmelen öppnades,
22 and the Holy Spirit descended upon him, in the bodily likeness of a dove: and there was a voice from heaven, which said: Thou art my beloved Son, in whom I have delight.
och den helige Ande sänkte sig ned över honom I lekamlig skepnad såsom en duva; och från himmelen kom en röst: "Du är min älskade Son; i dig har jag funnit behag."
23 And Jesus was about thirty years old. And he was accounted the son of Joseph, the son of Heli,
Och Jesus var vid pass trettio år gammal, när han begynte sitt verk. Och man menade att han var son av Josef, som var son av Eli,
24 the son of Matthat, the son of Levi, the son of Melchi, the son of Janna, the son of Joseph,
som var son av Mattat, som var son av Levi, som var son av Melki, som var son av Jannai, som var son av Josef,
25 the son of Mattathias, the son of Amos, the son of Nahum, the son of Esli, the son of Naggai,
som var son av Mattatias, som var son av Amos, som var son av Naum, som var son av Esli, som var son av Naggai,
26 the son of Maath, the son of Mattathias, the son of Shimei, the son of Joseph, the son of Judah,
som var son av Maat, som var son av Mattatias, som var son av Semein, som var son av Josek, som var son av Joda,
27 the son of Joanna, the son of Rhesa, the son of Zorubbabel, the son of Salathiel, the son of Neri,
som var son av Joanan, som var son av Resa, som var son av Sorobabel, som var son av Salatiel, som var son av Neri,
28 the son of Melchi, the son of Addi, the son of Cosam, the son of Elmodam, the son of Er,
som var son av Melki, som var son av Addi, som var son av Kosam, som var son av Elmadam, som var son av Er,
29 the son of Joses, the son of Eliezer, the son of Joram, the son of Matthat, the son of Levi,
som var son av Jesus, som var son av Elieser, som var son av Jorim, som var son av Mattat, som var son av Levi,
30 the son of Simeon, the son of Judah, the son of Joseph, the son of Jonam, the son of Eliakim,
som var son av Simeon, som var son av Judas, som var son av Josef, som var son av Jonam, som var son av Eljakim,
31 the son of Melcah, the son of Mainan, the son of Mattatha, the son of Nathan, the son of David,
som var son av Melea, som var son av Menna, som var son av Mattata, som var son av Natam, som var son av David,
32 the son of Jesse, the son of Obed, the son of Boaz, the son of Salmon, the son of Nahshon
som var son av Jessai, som var son av Jobed, som var son av Boos, som var son av Sala, som var son av Naasson,
33 the son of Amminadab, the son of Ram, the son of Hezron, the son of Pharez, the son of Judah
som var son av Aminadab, som var son av Admin, som var son av Arni, som var son av Esrom, som var son av Fares, som var son av Judas,
34 the son of Jacob, the son of Isaac, the son of Abraham, the son of Terah, the son of Nahor,
som var son av Jakob, som var son av Isak, som var son av Abraham, som var son av Tara, som var son av Nakor,
35 the son of Serug, the son of Reu, the son of Peleg, the son of Eber, the son of Salah,
som var son av Seruk, som var son av Ragau, som var son av Falek, som var son av Eber, som var son av Sala,
36 the son of Cainan, the son of Arphaxad, the son of Shem, the son of Noah, the son of Lamech,
som var son av Kainam, som var son av Arfaksad, som var son av Sem, som var son av Noa, som var son av Lamek,
37 the son of Methuselah, the son of Enoch, the son of Jared, the son of Mehalaleel, the son of Cainan,
som var son av Matusala, som var son av Enok, som var son av Jaret som var son av Maleleel, som var son av Kainan,
38 the son of Enos, the son of Seth, the son of Adam, the son of God.
som var son av Enos, som var son av Set, som var son av Adam, som var son av Gud.
