< Luke 21 >

1 And Jesus looked upon the rich, who cast their oblations into the treasury.
He looked up, and saw the rich people who were putting their gifts into the treasury.
2 And he saw also a certain poor widow, who cast in two mites.
He saw a certain poor widow casting in two lepta.
3 And he said: Truly I say to you, that this poor widow hath cast in more than any one.
He said, "Truly I tell you, this poor widow put in more than all of them,
4 For all they, from what was superfluous to them, have cast into the receptacle of oblations to God; but she, from her penury, hath cast in all that she possessed.
for all these put in gifts from their abundance, but she, out of her poverty, put in all that she had to live on."
5 And when some spoke of the temple, as adorned with goodly stones and oblations, Jesus said to them:
As some were talking about the temple and how it was decorated with beautiful stones and gifts, he said,
6 As for these things, on which ye gaze, the days will come, in which there will not be left a stone upon a stone, that is not cast down.
"As for these things which you see, the days will come, in which there will not be left here one stone on another that will not be thrown down."
7 And they questioned him, and said: Teacher, when will these things be? And what is the sign that they are near to take place?
They asked him, "Teacher, so when will these things be? What is the sign that these things are about to happen?"
8 And he said to them: See, that ye be not deceived; for many will come in my name, and will say: I am Messiah and the time is near. But go ye not after them.
He said, "Watch out that you do not get led astray, for many will come in my name, saying, 'I am he,' and, 'The time is near.' Therefore do not follow them.
9 And when ye shall hear of wars and commotions, be not afraid; for these things are previously to take place, but the end is not yet come.
When you hear of wars and disturbances, do not be terrified, for these things must happen first, but the end won't come immediately."
10 For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom;
Then he said to them, "Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom.
11 and great earthquakes will occur in several places, and famines, and pestilences; and there will be terrors, and trepidations, and great signs from heaven will be seen, and there will be great tempests.
There will be great earthquakes, famines, and plagues in various places. There will be terrors and great signs from heaven.
12 But before all these things, they will lay hands upon you, and will persecute you, and will deliver you up to councils and to prison, and will arraign you before kings and governors, on account of my name.
But before all these things, they will lay their hands on you and will persecute you, delivering you up to synagogues and prisons, bringing you before kings and governors for my name's sake.
13 But it will be to you for a testimony.
It will turn out as a testimony for you.
14 And settle it in your hearts, that ye will not previously seek instruction for making a defence.
Settle it therefore in your hearts not to meditate beforehand how to answer,
15 For I will give you a mouth and wisdom, which all your enemies will be unable to withstand.
for I will give you a mouth and wisdom which all your adversaries will not be able to withstand or to contradict.
16 And your parents, and your brothers, and your relatives, and your friends, will deliver you up, and cause some of you to die.
You will be handed over even by parents, brothers, relatives, and friends. They will cause some of you to be put to death.
17 And ye will be hated by every one, on account of my name.
And you will be hated by everyone because of my name.
18 But a hair of your head shall not perish.
But not a hair of your head will perish.
19 And by your patience, will ye preserve your souls.
"By your endurance you will win your lives.
20 And when ye shall see Jerusalem with an army encompassing it, then know ye, that its destruction draweth nigh.
"But when you see Jerusalem surrounded by armies, then know that its desolation is near.
21 Then let them who shall be in Judaea, flee to the mountain district; and let them, who are in the midst of it, flee away; and those in the fields, not enter it.
Then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains. Let those who are in the midst of her depart. Let those who are in the country not enter it.
22 For these are days of vengeance, to fulfill all that is written.
For these are days of vengeance, that all things which are written may be fulfilled.
23 But woe to them that are with child, and to them that nurse children, in those days; for then will be great distress in the land, and wrath upon this people.
Woe to those who are pregnant and to those who nurse infants in those days. For there will be great distress in the land, and wrath to this people.
24 And they will fall by the edge of the sword, and be carried captive to every place. And Jerusalem will be trodden down by the Gentiles, until the times of the Gentiles shall be completed.
And they will fall by the edge of the sword and be led captive into all the nations. And Jerusalem will be trampled down by non-Jewish people until the times are fulfilled. And there will be times of the non-Jewish people.
25 And there will be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and distress of nations on the earth; and clasping of hands, from astonishment at the noise of the sea;
And there will be signs in the sun, and moon, and stars, and on the earth distress of nations in perplexity because of the roaring of the sea and the waves;
26 and dismay that driveth out the souls of men, from fear of that which is to come on the earth; and the powers of heaven will be moved.
people will be fainting from fear, and from expectation of the things which are coming on the world, for the powers of the heavens will be shaken.
27 And then will they see the Son of man coming in the clouds, with much power, and with great glory.
Then they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory.
28 And when these things shall begin to be, take courage, and lift up your heads, for your deliverance draweth nigh.
But when these things begin to happen, look up, and lift up your heads, because your redemption is near."
29 And he uttered a similitude to them. Look at the fig-tree, and all the trees.
He told them a parable. "See the fig tree, and all the trees.
30 When they bud forth, ye at once understand from them that summer approacheth.
When they are already budding, you see it and know by your own selves that the summer is already near.
31 So also, when ye shall see all these things take place, know ye that the kingdom of God is near.
Even so you also, when you see these things happening, know that the Kingdom of God is near.
32 Verily I say to you, That this generation will not pass away, until all these things occur.
Truly I tell you, this generation will not pass away until all things are accomplished.
33 Heaven and earth will pass away; but my word will not pass away.
Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will by no means pass away.
34 Take heed to yourselves, that your hearts be, at no time, stupefied by gluttony and ebriety and worldly care; and so that day come upon you unawares.
"So be careful, or your hearts will be loaded down with carousing, drunkenness, and cares of this life, and that day will come on you suddenly.
35 For, like a hunter's snare, it will spring upon all them that dwell upon the face of the whole land.
For it will come like a snare on all those who dwell on the surface of all the earth.
36 Be ye therefore vigilant, at all times, and prayerful; that ye may be worthy to escape the things that are to take place, and may stand before the Son of man.
Therefore be watchful all the time, praying that you may be able to escape all these things that will happen, and to stand before the Son of Man."
37 And, in the daytime he taught in the temple, and at night he went out and lodged in the mount, called the Place of Olives.
Every day Yeshua was teaching in the temple, and every night he would go out and spend the night on the mountain that is called Olivet.
38 And all the people came early to him in the temple, to hear his discourse.
All the people came early in the morning to him in the temple to hear him.
