< Matthew 10 >

1 And he called his twelve disciples, and gave them power over unclean spirits to cast them out, and to cure every disease and infirmity.
Jesus called his twelve disciples together and gave them power to throw out evil spirits, and to heal all kinds of diseases and sicknesses.
2 Now, of the twelve apostles the names are these: the first of them, Shemun who is called Kipha, and Andreas his brother, and Jakubbar-Zabdai, and Juchanon his brother,
These are the names of the twelve apostles: first, Simon, (also called Peter), Andrew his brother, James the son of Zebedee, John his brother,
3 and Philipos, and Bar-Tholmai, and Thoma, and Mathai the tribute-gatherer, and Jakubbar-Chalphai, and Labi who was surnamed Thadai,
Philip, Bartholomew, Thomas, Matthew the tax-collector, James the son of Alphaeus, Thaddeus,
4 and Shemun the zealous, and Jihuda S'carjuta, he who betrayed him.
Simon the revolutionary, and Judas Iscariot, who betrayed Jesus.
5 These twelve Jeshu sent, and commanded them and said, In the way of the heathens go not, and into the city of the Shomroyee do not enter;
These Twelve Jesus sent out, telling them, “Don't go to the foreigners, or to any Samaritan city.
6 but go rather unto the sheep which have perished from the house of Isroel.
You are to go to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.
7 And as you go, proclaim and say that the kingdom of heaven hath drawn near.
Wherever you go, tell the people, ‘The kingdom of heaven is near.’
8 The diseased heal, the lepers cleanse, the dead raise, and the demons cast forth. Freely you have received, freely give.
Heal those who are sick. Resurrect the dead. Cure the lepers. Drive out demons. You received freely, so give freely!
9 Provide neither gold, nor silver, nor brass in your purses,
Don't carry any gold, silver, or copper coins in your pockets,
10 nor a wallet for the road; neither two tunics, nor sandals, nor staff: for worthy is the workman of his meat.
or a bag for your journey, or two cloaks, or sandals, or a walking stick, for a worker deserves to be supported.
11 And into whatsoever city or town you enter, inquire who is worthy in it, and there be till you depart.
Wherever you go, whatever town or village, ask for someone who lives according to good principles, and remain there until you leave.
12 And when you enter into the house, invoke peace for the house;
When you enter the house, give it your blessing.
13 and if the house be worthy, your peace shall come upon it; but if it be not worthy, your peace upon yourselves shall revert.
If the home deserves it, let your peace rest on it, but if it doesn't deserve it, let your peace return to you.
14 But whosoever doth not receive you or hear your words, when you depart from that house, or that town, set free the dust from your feet.
If someone doesn't welcome you, and refuses to listen to what you have to say, then leave that house or that town, shaking its dust off your feet as you go.
15 And, Amen, I say unto you, that for the land of Sadum and of Amura it will be more tolerable, in the day of the judgment, than for that city.
I tell you the truth, it will be better for Sodom and Gomorrah at the Day of Judgment than for that town!
16 LO, I send you forth as sheep among wolves: be you, therefore, wise as serpents and guileless as doves.
Look, I'm sending you out like sheep among wolves. So be as wise as serpents and harmless as doves.
17 But beware of the sons of men; for, delivering you to the house of judgments, in their synagogues they will scourge you,
Watch out for those who will hand you over to be tried by town councils and will whip you in their synagogues.
18 and before governors and kings bring you, on my account, for the testimony concerning them and the gentiles.
You will be dragged before governors and kings because of me, to witness to them and to the foreigners.
19 But when they deliver you up, be not solicitous how or what you shall speak; for it is given you in that hour what you shall speak.
But when they put you on trial, don't worry about how you should speak or what you should say, because you'll be told what to say at the right time.
20 For it is not you speaking, but the Spirit of your Father speaking in you.
For it isn't you who will speak but the spirit of the Father will speak through you.
21 But the brother shall deliver his brother unto death, and the father his son; and the sons shall rise up against their fathers, and shall slay them.
Brother will betray brother and have him killed, and a father will do the same to his child. Children will rebel against their parents, and have them put to death.
22 And you shall be abhorred by all men on account of my name: but he who shall persevere until the end, he shall be saved.
Everyone will hate you because you follow me, but those who endure until the end will be saved.
23 When they persecute you in this city, escape to the other; for, Amen I say unto you, that you shall not have completed all the cities of the house of Isroel, till the Son of man shall come.
When you're persecuted in one town, run away to the next. I'm telling the truth: you won't finish going to the towns of Israel before the Son of man comes.
24 The disciple is not greater than his master, nor the servant than his lord.
Disciples are not more important than their teacher; servants are not more important than their master.
25 It sufficeth the disciple that he be as his master, and the servant as his lord. If the master of the house they have called Beelzebub, how much more his house-sons!
Disciples should be satisfied to become like their teacher, and servants like their master. If the head of the house has been called the head demon Beelzebub, then the members of his household will be demonized even more!
26 You shall not fear, therefore, from them; for there is nothing covered which shall not be revealed, nor secret which shall not be known.
So don't be frightened of them, for there's nothing covered that won't be exposed, and nothing hidden that won't be made known.
27 Whatsoever I say to you in darkness, declare you in the light; and whatsoever you have heard in your ears, proclaim upon the roofs.
What I tell you here in the dark, declare when it's light, and what you hear whispered in your ear, shout from the rooftops.
28 And fear not them who kill the body, but the soul cannot kill; but fear rather One who the soul and the body can destroy in gihano. (Geenna g1067)
Don't be afraid of those who can kill you physically, but can't kill you spiritually. Instead, be afraid of the one who can destroy you physically and spiritually in the fires of destruction. (Geenna g1067)
29 Are not two sparrows sold for an asor? yet one of them, without your Father, doth not fall upon the earth.
Aren't two sparrows sold for just one penny? But not a single one of them falls to the ground without your Father knowing about it.
30 But of you, also, the hairs of your head are all numbered.
Even the hairs on your head have all been counted.
31 Fear not, therefore; than many sparrows more precious are you.
So don't worry—you're worth more than many sparrows!
32 Every man, therefore, who shall confess me before the sons of men, I myself will confess him also before my Father who is in heaven.
Anyone who publicly declares their commitment to me, I will also declare my commitment to them before my Father in heaven.
33 But whosoever shall deny me before the sons of men, I also will deny him, I, before my Father who is in heaven.
But anyone who publicly denies me, I will also deny before my Father in heaven.
34 EXPECT not that I have come to send forth peace on the earth; I have not come to send forth peace, but the sword.
Don't think I've come to bring peace on earth. I haven't come to bring peace, but a sword.
35 For I have come to cause a man to separate from his father, and a daughter from her mother, and a daughter-in-law from her mother-in-law;
I've come ‘to turn a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law.
36 and the adversaries of a man (to be) his own house-sons.
Your enemies will be those of your own family!’
37 Whosoever loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy (of) me; and whosoever loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy (of) me.
If you love your father or mother more than me you don't deserve to be mine, and if you love your son or daughter more than me you don't deserve to be mine.
38 And every one who taketh not his cross and cometh after me, is not worthy of me.
If you don't pick up your cross and follow me you don't deserve to be mine.
39 Whosoever will find his life shall lose it, and whosoever shall lose his life for my sake shall find it.
If you try to save your life, you will lose it, but if you lose your life because of me you will save it.
40 Whosoever receiveth you, receiveth me; and whosoever receiveth me, Him who sent me he receiveth.
Those who welcome you welcome me, and those who welcome me welcome the one that sent me.
41 Whosoever entertaineth a prophet in the name of a prophet, the reward of a prophet receiveth. Whosoever entertaineth a just man in the name of a just man, the reward of the just man he receiveth.
Those who welcome a prophet because that's what they are will receive the same reward as a prophet. Those who welcome someone who does right will receive the same reward as someone who does right.
42 And whosoever only giveth one of these little ones a cup of cold (waters) to drink in the name of a disciple, Amen, I say unto you, he shall not lose his reward.
I tell you the truth, those who give a drink of cool water to the least important of my disciples will definitely not miss out on their reward.”
