1 BUT the feast of the Phatiree, which is called Petscha, drew on.

2 And the chief priests and the Sophree sought how they might kill him; for they feared from the people.
pradhaanayaajakaa adhyaayakaa"sca yathaa ta. m hantu. m "saknuvanti tathopaayaam ace. s.tanta kintu lokebhyo bibhyu. h|
3 But Satana entered into Jihuda called Scarjuta, who was of the number of the twelve.
etastin samaye dvaada"sa"si. sye. su ga. nita ii. skariyotiiyaruu. dhimaan yo yihuudaastasyaanta. hkara. na. m "saitaanaa"sritatvaat
4 And he went, and spoke with the chief priests, and the Sophree, and the chief authorities of the temple, how he would deliver him to them.
sa gatvaa yathaa yii"su. m te. saa. m kare. su samarpayitu. m "saknoti tathaa mantra. naa. m pradhaanayaajakai. h senaapatibhi"sca saha cakaara|
5 And they were glad, and confirmed to give him silver.
tena te tu. s.taastasmai mudraa. m daatu. m pa. na. m cakru. h|
6 And he promised to them, and sought him opportunity to betray him apart from the multitude.
tata. h so"ngiik. rtya yathaa lokaanaamagocare ta. m parakare. su samarpayitu. m "saknoti tathaavakaa"sa. m ce. s.titumaarebhe|
7 And the day of unleavened bread came, on which it was the custom to slay the petscha.
atha ki. nva"suunyapuupotmavadine, arthaat yasmin dine nistaarotsavasya me. so hantavyastasmin dine
8 And Jeshu sent Kipha and Juchanon, and said to them, Go prepare for us the petscha, that we may eat.
yii"su. h pitara. m yohana ncaahuuya jagaada, yuvaa. m gatvaasmaaka. m bhojanaartha. m nistaarotsavasya dravyaa. nyaasaadayata. m|
9 But they said to him, Where wilt thou that we prepare?
tadaa tau papracchatu. h kucaasaadayaavo bhavata. h kecchaa?
10 He saith to them, When, you have entered into the city, a man meeteth you, bearing a pitcher of waters; go after him, and when he hath gone in,
tadaa sovaadiit, nagare pravi. s.te ka"scijjalakumbhamaadaaya yuvaa. m saak. saat kari. syati sa yannive"sana. m pravi"sati yuvaamapi tannive"sana. m tatpa"scaaditvaa nive"sanapatim iti vaakya. m vadata. m,
11 say to the lord of the house, Our Master saith, Is there a dining-place where I may eat the petscha with my disciples?
yatraaha. m nistaarotsavasya bhojya. m "si. syai. h saarddha. m bhoktu. m "saknomi saatithi"saalaa kutra? kathaamimaa. m prabhustvaa. m p. rcchati|
12 And he will show you a certain large upper chamber which is furnished: there make ready.
tata. h sa jano dvitiiyaprako. s.thiiyam eka. m "sasta. m ko. s.tha. m dar"sayi. syati tatra bhojyamaasaadayata. m|
13 And they went, and found as he had told them: and they prepared the petscha.
tatastau gatvaa tadvaakyaanusaare. na sarvva. m d. r.sdvaa tatra nistaarotsaviiya. m bhojyamaasaadayaamaasatu. h|
14 And when it was time, Jeshu came and reclined, and the twelve apostles with him.
atha kaala upasthite yii"su rdvaada"sabhi. h preritai. h saha bhoktumupavi"sya kathitavaan
15 And he said to them, With desire have I desired to eat this petscha with you before I suffer:
mama du. hkhabhogaat puurvva. m yubhaabhi. h saha nistaarotsavasyaitasya bhojya. m bhoktu. m mayaativaa nchaa k. rtaa|
16 for I tell you that from henceforth I shall not eat it, until it shall have been fulfilled in the kingdom of Aloha.
yu. smaan vadaami, yaavatkaalam ii"svararaajye bhojana. m na kari. sye taavatkaalam ida. m na bhok. sye|
17 And he took the cup, and praised, and said, Take this, and divide it among yourselves:
tadaa sa paanapaatramaadaaya ii"svarasya gu. naan kiirttayitvaa tebhyo datvaavadat, ida. m g. rhliita yuuya. m vibhajya pivata|
18 for I tell you that I shall not drink of the fruit of the vine, until the kingdom of Aloha shall have come.
yu. smaan vadaami yaavatkaalam ii"svararaajatvasya sa. msthaapana. m na bhavati taavad draak. saaphalarasa. m na paasyaami|
19 And he took bread, and praised, and brake, and gave to them, and said, This is my body which for you is given: this do in my memory.
tata. h puupa. m g. rhiitvaa ii"svaragu. naan kiirttayitvaa bha"nktaa tebhyo datvaavadat, yu. smadartha. m samarpita. m yanmama vapustadida. m, etat karmma mama smara. naartha. m kurudhva. m|
20 And thus also respecting the cup, when, after they had supped, he said, This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which for you is shed.
atha bhojanaante taad. r"sa. m paatra. m g. rhiitvaavadat, yu. smatk. rte paatita. m yanmama rakta. m tena nir. niitanavaniyamaruupa. m paanapaatramida. m|
21 Nevertheless, the hand of him who betrayeth me is on the table.
pa"syata yo maa. m parakare. su samarpayi. syati sa mayaa saha bhojanaasana upavi"sati|
22 And the Son of man goeth, as he was set apart: nevertheless woe to that man by whom he is betrayed!
yathaa niruupitamaaste tadanusaare. naa manu. syaputrasya gati rbhavi. syati kintu yasta. m parakare. su samarpayi. syati tasya santaapo bhavi. syati|
23 And they began to inquire among themselves, who it was of them who this should do.
tadaa te. saa. m ko jana etat karmma kari. syati tat te paraspara. m pra. s.tumaarebhire|
24 But there was also a contention among them, who of them was the greatest.
apara. m te. saa. m ko jana. h "sre. s.thatvena ga. nayi. syate, atraarthe te. saa. m vivaadobhavat|
25 And Jeshu said to them, The kings of the Gentiles are their lords; and they who exercise authority over them, doers of good are called.
asmaat kaara. naat sovadat, anyade"siiyaanaa. m raajaana. h prajaanaamupari prabhutva. m kurvvanti daaru. na"saasana. m k. rtvaapi te bhuupatitvena vikhyaataa bhavanti ca|
26 But you, not so: yea, he who is great among you, let him be as the least; and he who is chief, as one who serveth.
kintu yu. smaaka. m tathaa na bhavi. syati, yo yu. smaaka. m "sre. s.tho bhavi. syati sa kani. s.thavad bhavatu, ya"sca mukhyo bhavi. syati sa sevakavadbhavatu|
27 For who is greatest, he who reclineth, or he who serveth? Is not he who reclineth? But I am among you as he who serveth.
bhojanopavi. s.taparicaarakayo. h ka. h "sre. s.tha. h? yo bhojanaayopavi"sati sa ki. m "sre. s.tho na bhavati? kintu yu. smaaka. m madhye. aha. m paricaarakaivaasmi|
28 You are they who have remained with me in my temptations.
apara nca yuya. m mama pariik. saakaale prathamamaarabhya mayaa saha sthitaa
29 And I promise to you, as hath promised to me my Father, a kingdom;
etatkaara. naat pitraa yathaa madartha. m raajyameka. m niruupita. m tathaahamapi yu. smadartha. m raajya. m niruupayaami|
30 that you may eat and drink at the table in my kingdom, and may sit upon thrones, and judge the twelve tribes of Isroel.
tasmaan mama raajye bhojanaasane ca bhojanapaane kari. syadhve si. mhaasane. suupavi"sya cesraayeliiyaanaa. m dvaada"sava. m"saanaa. m vicaara. m kari. syadhve|
31 AND Jeshu said to Shemun, Shemun, behold, Satana, demandeth to sift thee as wheat;
apara. m prabhuruvaaca, he "simon pa"sya titaunaa dhaanyaaniiva yu. smaan "saitaan caalayitum aicchat,
32 but I have prayed for thee, that thy faith may not fail: and thou also, in the time that thou art converted, confirm thy brethren.
kintu tava vi"svaasasya lopo yathaa na bhavati etat tvadartha. m praarthita. m mayaa, tvanmanasi parivarttite ca bhraat. r.naa. m manaa. msi sthiriikuru|
33 But Shemun said to him, My Lord, with thee I am prepared, and for the house of the bound, and for death.
tadaa sovadat, he prabhoha. m tvayaa saarddha. m kaaraa. m m. rti nca yaatu. m majjitosmi|
34 Jeshu saith to him, I tell thee, Shemun, that the cock will not crow to-day, till three times thou hast denied that thou knowest me.
tata. h sa uvaaca, he pitara tvaa. m vadaami, adya kukku. taravaat puurvva. m tva. m matparicaya. m vaaratrayam apahvo. syase|
35 And he said to them, When I sent you without purse, or scrip, or shoes, was any thing wanting to you? They say to him, Nothing.
apara. m sa papraccha, yadaa mudraasampu. ta. m khaadyapaatra. m paadukaa nca vinaa yu. smaan praahi. nava. m tadaa yu. smaaka. m kasyaapi nyuunataasiit? te procu. h kasyaapi na|
36 He saith to them, Henceforth, he who hath a purse, let him take it, and likewise a scrip also; and he who hath not a sword, let him sell his garment and buy a sword.
tadaa sovadat kintvidaanii. m mudraasampu. ta. m khaadyapaatra. m vaa yasyaasti tena tadgrahiitavya. m, yasya ca k. rpaa. no naasti tena svavastra. m vikriiya sa kretavya. h|
37 For I tell you also, that what is written must be fulfilled in me, that with the transgressors he was numbered: for all which concerns me must be accomplished.
yato yu. smaanaha. m vadaami, aparaadhijanai. h saarddha. m ga. nita. h sa bhavi. syati| ida. m yacchaastriiya. m vacana. m likhitamasti tanmayi phali. syati yato mama sambandhiiya. m sarvva. m setsyati|
38 And they say to him, Our Lord, behold, here are two swords. He saith to them, They suffice.
tadaa te procu. h prabho pa"sya imau k. rpaa. nau| tata. h sovadad etau yathe. s.tau|
39 And he came forth, and went, as he was used, to the mount of the Place of Olives; and his disciples also went after him.
atha sa tasmaadvahi rgatvaa svaacaaraanusaare. na jaitunanaamaadri. m jagaama "si. syaa"sca tatpa"scaad yayu. h|
40 And when come unto the spot, he said to them, Pray that you enter not into temptation.
tatropasthaaya sa taanuvaaca, yathaa pariik. saayaa. m na patatha tadartha. m praarthayadhva. m|
41 And he removed from them as (about the distance of) a stone's throw, and bowed the knee, and prayed,
pa"scaat sa tasmaad eka"sarak. sepaad bahi rgatvaa jaanunii paatayitvaa etat praarthayaa ncakre,
42 and said, Father, if thou wilt, let this cup pass: nevertheless not my will, but thine be done.
he pita ryadi bhavaan sammanyate tarhi ka. msamena. m mamaantikaad duuraya kintu madicchaanuruupa. m na tvadicchaanuruupa. m bhavatu|
43 And an angel appeared to him from heaven, who strengthened him.
tadaa tasmai "sakti. m daatu. m svargiiyaduuto dar"sana. m dadau|
44 And being in terror, more vehemently he prayed, and his sweat was as drops of blood, and fell upon the ground.
pa"scaat sotyanta. m yaatanayaa vyaakulo bhuutvaa punard. r.dha. m praarthayaa ncakre, tasmaad b. rhaccho. nitabindava iva tasya svedabindava. h p. rthivyaa. m patitumaarebhire|
45 And he arose from prayer, and came to his disciples, and found them asleep, from sorrow.
atha praarthanaata utthaaya "si. syaa. naa. m samiipametya taan manodu. hkhino nidritaan d. r.s. tvaavadat
46 And he said to them, Why sleep you? arise and pray, that you enter not into temptation.
kuto nidraatha? pariik. saayaam apatanaartha. m prarthayadhva. m|
47 And as he was speaking, behold a multitude, and behold him who was called Jihuda, one of the twelve, coming before them, and he came nigh to Jeshu, and kissed him: for this was the sign he had given to them, He whom I shall kiss is he.
etatkathaayaa. h kathanakaale dvaada"sa"si. syaa. naa. m madhye ga. nito yihuudaanaamaa janataasahitaste. saam agre calitvaa yii"so"scumbanaartha. m tadantikam aayayau|
48 Jeshu saith to him, Jihuda, with the kiss betrayest thou the Son of man?
tadaa yii"suruvaaca, he yihuudaa ki. m cumbanena manu. syaputra. m parakare. su samarpayasi?
49 But when they who were with him saw what was done, they say to him, Our Lord, shall we strike with the sword?
tadaa yadyad gha. ti. syate tadanumaaya sa"ngibhirukta. m, he prabho vaya. m ki kha"ngena ghaatayi. syaama. h?
50 And one of them struck the servant of the high priest, and took off his right ear.
tata eka. h karavaalenaahatya pradhaanayaajakasya daasasya dak. si. na. m kar. na. m ciccheda|
51 Jeshu answered and said, It sufficeth until this; and he touched his ear which he had struck, and healed it.
adhuunaa nivarttasva ityuktvaa yii"sustasya "sruti. m sp. r.s. tvaa svasya. m cakaara|
52 And Jeshu said to them who had come against him, the chief priests, and elders, and the chiefs of the forces of the temple, As against a thief are you come forth against me, with swords and clubs to take me?
pa"scaad yii"su. h samiipasthaan pradhaanayaajakaan mandirasya senaapatiin praaciinaa. m"sca jagaada, yuuya. m k. rpaa. naan ya. s.tii. m"sca g. rhiitvaa maa. m ki. m cora. m dharttumaayaataa. h?
53 Every day with you have I been in the temple, and you did not stretch forth upon me (your) hands; but this is your hour and the power of darkness.
yadaaha. m yu. smaabhi. h saha pratidina. m mandire. ati. s.tha. m tadaa maa. m dhartta. m na prav. rttaa. h, kintvidaanii. m yu. smaaka. m samayondhakaarasya caadhipatyamasti|
54 And they took (and) brought him to the house of the chief of the priests; and Shemun came after him from afar.
atha te ta. m dh. rtvaa mahaayaajakasya nive"sana. m ninyu. h| tata. h pitaro duure duure pa"scaaditvaa
55 Now they had kindled a fire in the midst of the hall, and were sitting around it, and Shemun also sat with them.
b. rhatko. s.thasya madhye yatraagni. m jvaalayitvaa lokaa. h sametyopavi. s.taastatra tai. h saarddham upavive"sa|
56 And a certain damsel saw him as he sat by the fire, and, looking at him, she said, This also was with him.
atha vahnisannidhau samupave"sakaale kaaciddaasii mano nivi"sya ta. m niriik. syaavadat pumaanaya. m tasya sa"nge. asthaat|
57 But he denied, and said, Woman, I know him not.
kintu sa tad apahnutyaavaadiit he naari tamaha. m na paricinomi|
58 And after a little while, another saw him, and said, Thou also art of them. But Kipha said, I am not.
k. sa. naantare. anyajanasta. m d. r.s. tvaabraviit tvamapi te. saa. m nikarasyaikajanosi| pitara. h pratyuvaaca he nara naahamasmi|
59 And after one hour another contended and said, Assuredly this also was with him, for he is also a Galiloya.
tata. h saarddhada. n.dadvayaat para. m punaranyo jano ni"scitya babhaa. se, e. sa tasya sa"ngiiti satya. m yatoya. m gaaliiliiyo loka. h|
60 Kipha saith, Man, I know not what thou sayest. And at once, while he was speaking, the cock crew.
tadaa pitara uvaaca he nara tva. m yad vadami tadaha. m boddhu. m na "saknomi, iti vaakye kathitamaatre kukku. to ruraava|
61 And Jeshu turned, and looked upon Kipha; and Shemun remembered his word which our Lord had spoken to him, that before the cock shall crow thou wilt have denied me three times.
tadaa prabhu. naa vyaadhu. tya pitare niriik. site k. rkavaakuravaat puurvva. m maa. m trirapahno. syase iti puurvvokta. m tasya vaakya. m pitara. h sm. rtvaa
62 And Shemun went without and wept bitterly.
bahirgatvaa mahaakhedena cakranda|
63 And the men who held Jeshu mocked him,
tadaa yai ryii"surdh. rtaste tamupahasya praharttumaarebhire|
64 and veiled him, and they struck him upon the face, saying, Prophesy, who struck thee.
vastre. na tasya d. r"sau baddhvaa kapole cape. taaghaata. m k. rtvaa papracchu. h, kaste kapole cape. taaghaata. m k. rtavaana? ga. nayitvaa tad vada|
65 And many other things they blasphemed and spake against him.
tadanyat tadviruddha. m bahunindaavaakya. m vaktumaarebhire|
66 AND when it dawned, the elders and chief priests and the Sophree came together, and took him into the house of their assembly; saying to him,
atha prabhaate sati lokapraa nca. h pradhaanayaajakaa adhyaapakaa"sca sabhaa. m k. rtvaa madhyesabha. m yii"sumaaniiya papracchu. h, tvam abhi. sikatosi na vaasmaan vada|
67 Art thou the Meshicha? tell us. He saith to them, Should I tell you, you would not believe me;
sa pratyuvaaca, mayaa tasminnukte. api yuuya. m na vi"svasi. syatha|
68 and were I to ask you, you would not return me a word, nor release me.
kasmi. m"scidvaakye yu. smaan p. r.s. te. api maa. m na taduttara. m vak. syatha na maa. m tyak. syatha ca|
69 Henceforth the Son of man sitteth at the right hand of the power of Aloha.
kintvita. h para. m manujasuta. h sarvva"saktimata ii"svarasya dak. si. ne paar"sve samupavek. syati|
70 Then said they all, Thou art, then, the Son of Aloha? Jeshu saith to them, You say that I am.
tataste papracchu. h, rtiha tvamii"svarasya putra. h? sa kathayaamaasa, yuuya. m yathaartha. m vadatha sa evaaha. m|
71 They say, Why yet need we witnesses? for we have heard from his mouth.
tadaa te sarvve kathayaamaasu. h, rtiha saak. sye. ansasmin asmaaka. m ki. m prayojana. m? asya svamukhaadeva saak. sya. m praaptam|
