Joshua 5
1 and to be like/as to hear: hear all king [the] Amorite which in/on/with side: beyond [the] Jordan sea: west [to] and all king [the] Canaanite which upon [the] sea [obj] which to wither LORD [obj] water [the] Jordan from face: before son: descendant/people Israel till (to pass they *QK) and to melt heart their and not to be in/on/with them still spirit from face: because son: descendant/people Israel
Khi vua các dân tộc sống bên bờ phía tây Giô-đan (gồm người A-mô-rít và người Ca-na-an sống dọc miền biển) nghe tin Chúa Hằng Hữu làm nước Sông Giô-đan khô cạn cho người Ít-ra-ên đi qua, họ mất tinh thần, không còn nhuệ khí để đương đầu với người Ít-ra-ên.

Trong lúc ấy, Chúa Hằng Hữu phán bảo Giô-suê: “Lấy dao bằng đá để làm lễ cắt bì lần thứ hai cho người Ít-ra-ên.”
3 and to make to/for him Joshua sword rock and to circumcise [obj] son: descendant/people Israel to(wards) Gibeath-(haaraloth) [the] (Gilgal)-haaraloth
Giô-suê vâng lời, sắm dao, cắt bì cho dân chúng tại Ghi-bê-át A-ra-lốt.
4 and this [the] word: because which to circumcise Joshua all [the] people [the] to come out: come from Egypt [the] male all human [the] battle to die in/on/with wilderness in/on/with way: journey in/on/with to come out: come they from Egypt
Lý do Giô-suê phải hành lễ cắt bì lần này là khi người Ít-ra-ên ra khỏi Ai Cập, những người đàn ông đủ tuổi ra trận đều đã được cắt bì, nhưng họ đều bỏ mạng trong hoang mạc.
5 for to circumcise to be all [the] people [the] to come out: come and all [the] people [the] born in/on/with wilderness in/on/with way: journey in/on/with to come out: come they from Egypt not to circumcise
Tất cả dân chúng đã ra khỏi Ai Cập đều được cắt bì, còn những người sinh ra trong hoang mạc sau khi rời Ai Cập thì chưa từng được làm cắt bì.
6 for forty year to go: walk son: descendant/people Israel in/on/with wilderness till to finish all [the] nation human [the] battle [the] to come out: come from Egypt which not to hear: obey in/on/with voice LORD which to swear LORD to/for them to/for lest to see: see them [obj] [the] land: country/planet which to swear LORD to/for father their to/for to give: give to/for us land: country/planet to flow: flowing milk and honey
Vì người Ít-ra-ên không vâng lời Chúa Hằng Hữu, nên cuộc hành trình của họ phải kéo dài suốt bốn mươi năm trong hoang mạc, cho đến khi toàn thế hệ ấy—những người đủ tuổi chiến đấu lúc ra khỏi Ai Cập—chết đi. Chúa đã thề không cho họ vào đất hứa, một vùng đất phì nhiêu màu mỡ, là đất mà Chúa Hằng Hữu đã long trọng hứa ban cho tổ phụ họ và dân Chúa.

Lần này Giô-suê làm lễ cắt bì cho thế hệ sau, gồm những người mới lớn lên thay thế cha mình, vì họ chưa được cắt bì trong hành trình tiến vào Đất Hứa.
8 and to be like/as as which to finish all [the] nation to/for to circumcise and to dwell underneath: stand them in/on/with camp till to live they
Sau khi chịu cắt bì, các người nam nghỉ trong trại cho đến khi vết cắt được lành.
9 and to say LORD to(wards) Joshua [the] day to roll [obj] reproach Egypt from upon you and to call: call by name [the] place [the] he/she/it Gilgal till [the] day: today [the] this
Chúa Hằng Hữu phán bảo Giô-suê: “Hôm nay, Ta đẩy xa khỏi các ngươi nỗi ô nhục tại Ai Cập.” Và như thế, chỗ ấy được gọi là Ghinh-ganh cho đến ngày nay.
10 and to camp son: descendant/people Israel in/on/with Gilgal and to make: do [obj] [the] Passover in/on/with four ten day to/for month in/on/with evening in/on/with plain Jericho
Trong thời gian cắm trại tại Ghinh-ganh trên đồng bằng Giê-ri-cô, họ ăn lễ Vượt Qua vào tối ngày mười bốn tháng giêng như thường lệ.

Ngay sau ngày lễ, họ bắt đầu dùng thổ sản làm thực phẩm, lấy hạt ngũ cốc làm bánh không men;

vào ngày kế tiếp, ma-na không rơi xuống nữa. Từ đó, họ không còn thấy ma-na, nhưng sống bằng mùa màng của đất Ca-na-an.

Đến gần thành Giê-ri-cô, Giô-suê chợt nhìn lên thấy một người cầm gươm trần đứng trước mặt. Giô-suê bước tới, hỏi: “Ông là bạn của chúng tôi hay phe địch?”
14 and to say not for I ruler army LORD now to come (in): come and to fall: fall Joshua to(wards) face his land: soil [to] and to bow and to say to/for him what? lord my to speak: speak to(wards) servant/slave his
Người ấy đáp: “Ta không thuộc phe nào cả, nhưng ta đến lãnh đạo quân đội của Chúa Hằng Hữu.” Giô-suê vội sấp mình xuống lạy và thưa: “Chúa muốn dạy con điều gì?”
15 and to say ruler army LORD to(wards) Joshua to slip sandal your from upon foot your for [the] place which you(m. s.) to stand: stand upon him holiness he/she/it and to make: do Joshua so
Vị chỉ huy Quân Đội của Chúa Hằng Hữu phán bảo: “Hãy cởi giày con ra, vì đây là đất thánh.” Giô-suê vâng lời.
