< Isaiah 14 >

1 for to have compassion LORD [obj] Jacob and to choose still in/on/with Israel and to rest them upon land: soil their and to join [the] sojourner upon them and to attach upon house: household Jacob
But the Lord will be merciful to the descendants of Jacob. Once again he will choose Israel and he will bring them back to live once more in their own land. Foreigners will come and join them there, and they will unite with the descendants of Jacob.
2 and to take: take them people and to come (in): bring them to(wards) place their and to inherit them house: household Israel upon land: soil LORD to/for servant/slave and to/for maidservant and to be to take captive to/for to take captive them and to rule in/on/with to oppress them
Nations will go with them and escort them to their own land. The foreigners who stay in the Lord's land will serve the Israelites. In this way the captors become their captives, and they rule over their former oppressors.
3 and to be in/on/with day to rest LORD to/for you from pain your and from turmoil your and from [the] service [the] severe which to serve in/on/with you
At that time the Lord will give you relief from your pain and trouble, and from the hard labor you were forced to do.
4 and to lift: loud [the] proverb [the] this upon king Babylon and to say how? to cease to oppress to cease insolence
You will mock the king of Babylon, saying, “How your oppressive rule has been ended, and your insolence stopped!
5 to break LORD tribe: rod wicked tribe: staff to rule
The Lord has broken the rod of the wicked, the rulers' scepter.
6 to smite people in/on/with fury wound lest revolt to rule in/on/with face: anger nation persecution without to withhold
You kept on furiously hitting foreign peoples without stopping, and aggressively ruled nations with unrestrained persecution.
7 to rest to quiet all [the] land: country/planet to break out cry
Now the whole earth rests peacefully, and everyone starts celebrating!
8 also cypress to rejoice to/for you cedar Lebanon from the past to lie down: lay down not to ascend: rise [the] to cut: cut upon us
The cypress and cedar trees are glad you're gone. They sing, ‘Since you were cut down no woodcutters are coming to cut us down!’
9 hell: Sheol from underneath: under to tremble to/for you to/for to encounter: meet to come (in): come you to rouse to/for you shade all goat land: country/planet to arise: raise from throne their all king nation (Sheol h7585)
Those in the grave beneath are keen to meet you when you arrive. It wakes the spirits of the dead to welcome you, those of all the rulers of the earth. All the kings of the nations stand up from their thrones. (Sheol h7585)
10 all their to answer and to say to(wards) you also you(m. s.) be weak: weak like us to(wards) us to liken
They will all speak up and tell you, ‘So you too are as weak as we are—you've become just like us!
11 to go down hell: Sheol pride your sound harp your underneath: under you to lay worm and covering your worm (Sheol h7585)
Your pride is now buried with you in the grave, along with the harp music you loved. Maggots are the bed you lie on, and worms are your blanket.’ (Sheol h7585)
12 how? to fall: fall from heaven Day Star son: child dawn to cut down/off to/for land: soil to weaken upon nation
Morning star, son of the dawn, how you have fallen from heaven! Destroyer of nations, you have been cut down to the ground!
13 and you(m. s.) to say in/on/with heart your [the] heaven to ascend: rise from above to/for star God to exalt throne my and to dwell in/on/with mountain: mount meeting in/on/with flank Zaphon
You said to yourself: ‘I will ascend to heaven. I will raise my throne above the stars of God. I will sit enthroned on the mountain of meeting, the summit of the northern mountain.
14 to ascend: rise upon high place cloud to resemble to/for Most High
I will ascend to the high places above the clouds; I will make myself like the Most High.’
15 surely to(wards) hell: Sheol to go down to(wards) flank pit (Sheol h7585)
But you are dragged down to the grave, into the depths of the pit. (Sheol h7585)
16 to see: see you to(wards) you to gaze to(wards) you to understand this [the] man to tremble [the] land: country/planet to shake kingdom
Those who see you will stare at you, examining you closely, asking, ‘Is this the man who shook the earth, who made kingdoms tremble?
17 to set: make world like/as wilderness and city his to overthrow prisoner his not to open house: home [to]
Is this the one who turned the world into a desert, destroyed cities, and never let his prisoners return home?’
18 all king nation all their to lie down: lay down in/on/with glory man: anyone in/on/with house: home his
All the other kings of the nations lie in splendor in their great mausoleums.
19 and you(m. s.) to throw from grave your like/as branch to abhor clothing to kill to pierce sword to go down to(wards) stone pit like/as corpse to trample
But you are thrown out of your grave like a branch nobody wants, buried underneath the bodies of those killed by the sword. You are like a corpse trodden underfoot. You are tossed into a pit full of rocks—
20 not be joined with them in/on/with tomb for land: country/planet your to ruin people your to kill not to call: call by to/for forever: enduring seed: children be evil
you will not be buried like those other kings because you destroyed your own land and killed your own people. The descendants of those who do evil will never survive.
21 to establish: prepare to/for son: child his slaughter in/on/with iniquity: guilt father their not to arise: rise and to possess: take land: country/planet and to fill face: surface world city
Get ready to execute his sons because of their fathers' sins. Don't let them take over the earth; don't let them fill the whole world with their cities.
22 and to arise: rise upon them utterance LORD Hosts and to cut: eliminate to/for Babylon name and remnant and offspring and progeny utterance LORD
I will come and attack them, declares the Lord Almighty. I will destroy everything: their reputation, those who remain, their children, and their descendants, says the Lord.
23 and to set: make her to/for possession porcupine and pool water and to sweep her in/on/with broom to destroy utterance LORD Hosts
I will make Babylon into a place for water birds and into marshland. I will sweep her away with the broom of destruction, declares the Lord Almighty.”
24 to swear LORD Hosts to/for to say if: surely yes not like/as as which to resemble so to be and like/as as which to advise he/she/it to arise: establish
The Lord Almighty has sworn an oath: It will be as I have planned. It will happen as I have decided.
25 to/for to break Assyria in/on/with land: country/planet my and upon mountain: mount my to trample him and to turn aside: depart from upon them yoke his and burden his from upon shoulder his to turn aside: remove
I will smash the Assyrians when they are in my country Israel; I will trample them underfoot on my mountains. I will remove their yoke from my people, and take away the burdens they place on my people's shoulders.
26 this [the] counsel [the] to advise upon all [the] land: country/planet and this [the] hand [the] to stretch upon all [the] nation
This is the plan I have made regarding the whole earth; my hand stretches out to control all the nations.
27 for LORD Hosts to advise and who? to break and hand his [the] to stretch and who? to return: turn back her
The Lord Almighty has made his plan, and who will block it? His hand stretches out, and who will push back against it?

All you Philistines, don't celebrate the fact that the rod that was hitting you is broken, because from the root of that snake will grow up a viper, its fruit will be a flying serpent.

The poor will have food, and the needy will live in safety, but you Philistines will die in a famine, and I will kill those who survive.
31 to wail gate to cry out city to melt Philistia all your for from north smoke to come (in): come and nothing be alone in/on/with ranks his
Howl, gates! Weep, town! Melt away in feat, all you Philistines! For a cloud of smoke is approaching from the north—an army with no soldier hanging back.
32 and what? to answer messenger nation for LORD to found Zion and in/on/with her to seek refuge afflicted people his
What will be the answer given to the messengers from that nation? “The Lord was the one who laid the foundations of Zion, and that's where his suffering people will be kept safe.”
