Romans 4
1 What then will we say to have discovered Abraham the (ancestor *N+KO) of us according to [the] flesh?
Was wollen wir denn sagen, daß Abraham, unser Vater, nach dem Fleische gefunden habe?
2 If for Abraham by works was justified, he has ground of boasting but not toward God.
Denn wenn Abraham aus Werken [O. auf dem Grundsatz der Werke] gerechtfertigt worden ist, so hat er etwas zum Rühmen, aber nicht vor Gott.
3 What for the Scripture says? Believed then Abraham in God, and it was reckoned to him for righteousness.
Denn was sagt die Schrift? "Abraham aber glaubte Gott, und es wurde ihm zur Gerechtigkeit gerechnet." [1. Mose 15,6]
4 To the [one] now working the reward not is reckoned according to grace but according to debt;
Dem aber, der wirkt, wird der Lohn nicht nach Gnade zugerechnet, sondern nach Schuldigkeit.
5 To the [one] however not working, believing however on the [One] justifying the ungodly, is reckoned the faith of him for righteousness.
Dem aber, der nicht wirkt, sondern an den glaubt, der den Gottlosen rechtfertigt, wird sein Glaube zur Gerechtigkeit gerechnet.
6 just as also David declares the blessedness of the man to whom God credits righteousness apart from works:
Gleichwie auch David die Glückseligkeit [O. Seligpreisung; so auch v 9] des Menschen ausspricht, welchem Gott Gerechtigkeit ohne Werke zurechnet:
7 Blessed [are] they of whom are forgiven the lawless deeds and of whom are covered the sins;
"Glückselig die, deren Gesetzlosigkeiten vergeben und deren Sünden bedeckt sind!
8 blessed [is] [the] man (of whom *N+kO) certainly not may reckon [the] Lord sin.
Glückselig der Mann, dem der Herr Sünde nicht [O. keineswegs, gewißlich nicht] zurechnet! [Ps. 32,1. 2.]
9 [Is] the blessing then this on the circumcision or also on the uncircumcision? We are saying for (that: *k) was credited to Abraham the faith as righteousness.
Diese Glückseligkeit nun, ruht sie auf der Beschneidung, oder auch auf der Vorhaut? denn wir sagen, daß der Glaube dem Abraham zur Gerechtigkeit gerechnet worden ist.
10 How then was it credited? In circumcision being or in uncircumcision? Not in circumcision but in uncircumcision;
Wie wurde er ihm denn zugerechnet? als er in der Beschneidung oder in der Vorhaut war? Nicht in der Beschneidung, sondern in der Vorhaut.
11 And [the] sign he received of circumcision, a seal of the righteousness of the faith that [he had] [while] in the uncircumcision; for the to be him father of all those believing in uncircumcision, for to be credited also to them the righteousness,
Und er empfing das Zeichen der Beschneidung als Siegel der Gerechtigkeit des Glaubens, den er in der Vorhaut hatte, damit er Vater aller wäre, die in der Vorhaut glauben, damit auch ihnen die Gerechtigkeit zugerechnet würde;
12 and father of circumcision to those not of circumcision only but also to those walking in the steps during (the *k) uncircumcision (of the *k) faith of the father of us Abraham.
und Vater der Beschneidung, nicht allein derer, die aus der Beschneidung sind, sondern auch derer, die in den Fußstapfen des Glaubens wandeln, den unser Vater Abraham in der Vorhaut hatte.
13 Not for through [the] Law [was] the promise to Abraham or to the descendants of him that heir he being (of the *k) world but through [the] righteousness of faith.
Denn nicht durch Gesetz ward dem Abraham oder seinem Samen die Verheißung, daß er der Welt Erbe sein sollte, sondern durch Glaubensgerechtigkeit.
14 If for those of [the] Law [are] heirs, has been made void faith and has been nullified the promise;
Denn wenn die vom Gesetz Erben sind, so ist der Glaube zunichte gemacht und die Verheißung aufgehoben.
15 For law wrath brings; where (now *N+kO) no there is law, neither [is] transgression.
Denn das Gesetz bewirkt Zorn; aber wo kein Gesetz ist, da ist auch keine Übertretung.
16 Therefore it [is] of faith, that [it may be] according to grace, for to be sure the promise to all the seed, not to that of the law only but also to that of [the] faith of Abraham, who is [the] father of all of us —
Darum ist es aus Glauben, [O. auf dem Grundsatz des Glaubens] auf daß es nach Gnade sei, damit die Verheißung dem ganzen Samen fest sei, nicht allein dem vom Gesetz, sondern auch dem vom Glauben Abrahams, welcher unser aller Vater ist,
17 even as it has been written that A father of many nations I have made you, before whom he believed God, who is giving life to the dead and calling the [things] not [into] being as existing;
[wie geschrieben steht: "Ich habe dich zum Vater vieler Nationen gesetzt"], [1. Mose 17,5] vor dem Gott, welchem er glaubte, der die Toten lebendig macht und das Nichtseiende ruft, wie wenn es da wäre;
18 who against hope in hope believed for to become him [the] father of many nations according to that spoken; So will be the offspring of you;
der wider Hoffnung auf Hoffnung geglaubt hat, auf daß er ein Vater vieler Nationen würde, nach dem, was gesagt ist: "Also soll dein Same sein". [1. Mose 15,5]
19 And not having become weak in the faith (not *K) he considered his own body already expired, a hundred years old about being, and the lifelessness of the womb of Sarah,
Und nicht schwach im Glauben, sah er nicht seinen eigenen, schon erstorbenen Leib an, da er fast hundert Jahre alt war, und das Absterben des Mutterleibes der Sarah,
20 About however the promise of God not he did waver through unbelief, but was strengthened in faith, having given glory to God
und zweifelte nicht an der Verheißung Gottes durch Unglauben, sondern wurde gestärkt im Glauben, Gott die Ehre gebend,
21 and having been fully assured that what He has promised able He is also to do;
und war der vollen Gewißheit, daß er, was er verheißen habe, auch zu tun vermöge.
22 Therefore also it was credited to him unto righteousness.
Darum ist es ihm auch zur Gerechtigkeit gerechnet worden.
23 Not it was written now on account of him alone that it was credited to him,
Es ist aber nicht allein seinetwegen geschrieben, daß es ihm zugerechnet worden,
24 but also on account of us to whom it is about to be credited, to those believing on the [One] having raised Jesus the Lord of us out from [the] dead,
sondern auch unsertwegen, denen es zugerechnet werden soll, die wir an den glauben, der Jesum, unseren Herrn, aus den Toten auferweckt hat,
25 who was delivered over for the trespasses of us and was raised for the justification of us.
welcher unserer Übertretungen wegen dahingegeben und unserer Rechtfertigung wegen auferweckt worden ist.
