1 In year then fifteenth of the reign of Tiberius Caesar, when is being governor Pontius Pilate of Judea and when is being tetrarch of Galilee Herod, Philip now the brother when he is being tetrarch of Ituraea and of Trachonitis [the] region and Lysanias of Abilene being tetrarch

Aber im fünfzehnten Jahre der Regierung des Kaisers Tiberius, als Pontius Pilatus Landpfleger von Judäa war, und Herodes Vierfürst von Galiläa, und sein Bruder Philippus Vierfürst von Ituräa und der Landschaft Trachonitis, und Lysanias Vierfürst von Abilene,

2 during ([the] high priesthood *N+kO) of Annas and Caiaphas, came [the] declaration of God upon John the of Zechariah son in the wilderness.

unter dem Hohenpriestertum von Annas und Kajaphas, geschah das Wort Gottes zu Johannes, dem Sohne Zacharias, in der Wüste.

3 And he went into all the surrounding region of the Jordan proclaiming a baptism of repentance for forgiveness of sins

Und er kam in die ganze Umgegend des Jordan und predigte die Taufe der Buße zur Vergebung der Sünden;

4 as it has been written in [the] book of [the] words of Isaiah the prophet (saying: *k) [The] voice of one crying in the wilderness do prepare the way of [the] Lord, straight do make the paths of Him.

wie geschrieben steht im Buche der Worte Jesaias, des Propheten: "Stimme eines Rufenden in der Wüste: Bereitet den Weg des Herrn, machet gerade seine Steige!

5 Every valley will be filled and every mountain and hill will be made low; and will become the crooked into (straight *NK+o) and the rough into ways smooth;

Jedes Tal wird ausgefüllt und jeder Berg und Hügel erniedrigt werden, und das Krumme wird zum geraden Wege und die höckerichten zu ebenen Wegen werden;

6 and will behold all flesh the salvation of God.

und alles Fleisch wird das Heil Gottes sehen". [Jes. 40,3-5]

7 He was saying therefore to the coming out crowds to be baptized by him; Offspring of vipers, who forewarned you to flee from the soon coming wrath?

Er sprach nun zu der Volksmenge, die hinausgingen, um von ihm getauft zu werden: Otternbrut! Wer hat euch gewiesen, dem kommenden Zorn zu entfliehen?

8 do produce therefore fruits worthy of repentance; and not may begin to say in yourselves; [As] father We have Abraham. I say for to you that is able God from stones these to raise up children to Abraham.

Bringet nun der Buße würdige Früchte; und beginnet nicht, bei euch selbst zu sagen: Wir haben Abraham zum Vater; denn ich sage euch, daß Gott dem Abraham aus diesen Steinen Kinder zu erwecken vermag.

9 Already now also the ax to the root of the trees is applied; every therefore tree not producing fruit good is cut down and into [the] fire is thrown.

Schon ist aber auch die Axt an die Wurzel der Bäume gelegt [Siehe die Anm. zu Matth. 3,10;] jeder Baum nun, der nicht gute Frucht bringt, wird abgehauen und ins Feuer geworfen.

10 And were asking him the crowds saying; What then (shall we do? *N+kO)

Und die Volksmenge fragte ihn und sprachen: Was sollen wir denn tun?

11 Answering now (he was saying *N+kO) to them; The [one] having two tunics he should impart to the [one] none having and the [one] having food likewise he should do.

Er aber antwortete und sprach zu ihnen: Wer zwei Leibröcke hat, teile dem mit, der keinen hat; und wer Speise hat, tue gleicherweise.

12 Came then also tax collectors to be baptized and they said to him; Teacher, what (shall we do? *N+kO)

Es kamen aber auch Zöllner, um getauft zu werden; und sie sprachen zu ihm: Lehrer, was sollen wir tun?

13 And he said to them; Nothing more beyond that appointed to you do collect.

Er aber sprach zu ihnen: Fordert nicht mehr, als euch bestimmt ist.

14 Were asking then him also those being soldiers saying; What (may do *N+kO) also we ourselves And he said (to *k) (to them; *N+kO) No one may extort nor may accuse falsely and do be content with the wages of you.

Es fragten ihn aber auch Kriegsleute und sprachen: Und wir, was sollen wir tun? Und er sprach zu ihnen: Tut niemand Gewalt, [O. Übet an niemand Erpressung] und klaget niemand fälschlich an, und begnüget euch mit eurem Solde.

15 When were expecting then the people and wondering all in the hearts of them concerning John, whether whether he himself would be the Christ,

Als aber das Volk in Erwartung war, und alle in ihren Herzen wegen Johannes überlegten, ob er nicht etwa der Christus sei,

16 Answered saying ([to] all *N+kO) John: I myself indeed with water baptize you; comes however the [One] mightier than I, of whom not I am worthy to untie the strap of the sandals of Him. He himself you will baptize with [the] Spirit Holy and with fire,

antwortete Johannes allen und sprach: Ich zwar taufe euch mit Wasser; es kommt aber, der stärker ist als ich, dessen ich nicht würdig [Eig. genugsam, tüchtig] bin, ihm den Riemen seiner Sandalen zu lösen; er wird euch mit [W. in] Heiligem Geiste und Feuer taufen;

17 of whom the winnowing fork [is] in the hand of Him (and *k) (to scour *N+kO) the threshing floor of Him and (to gather *N+kO) the wheat into the barn of Him. But the chaff He will burn up with fire unquenchable.

dessen Worfschaufel in seiner Hand ist, und er wird seine Tenne durch und durch reinigen und den Weizen in seine Scheune sammeln; die Spreu aber wird er verbrennen mit unauslöschlichem Feuer.

18 Many indeed therefore other things exhorting he was evangelising the people.

Indem er nun auch mit vielem anderen ermahnte, verkündigte er dem Volke gute Botschaft.

19 And Herod the tetrarch being reproved by him concerning Herodias the wife (of Philip *K) of the brother of him and concerning all that did [the] evils Herod,

Herodes aber, der Vierfürst, weil er wegen der Herodias, des Weibes seines Bruders, und wegen alles Bösen, das Herodes getan hatte, von ihm gestraft wurde,

20 added yet this to all: Also he locked up John in prison.

fügte allem auch dies hinzu, daß er Johannes ins Gefängnis einschloß.

21 It came to pass now in baptizing all the people and when Jesus having been baptized and having prayed [was] opening the heaven

Es geschah aber, als das ganze Volk getauft wurde, und Jesus getauft war und betete, daß der Himmel aufgetan wurde,

22 and descending the Spirit Holy in a bodily form (as *N+kO) a dove upon Him and a voice out of heaven coming (saying: *k) You yourself are the Son of Mine the beloved, in You I am well pleased.

und der Heilige Geist in leiblicher Gestalt, wie eine Taube, auf ihn herabstieg, und eine Stimme aus dem Himmel kam: Du bist mein geliebter Sohn, an [W. in] dir habe ich Wohlgefallen gefunden.

23 And Himself was Jesus beginning about years [old] thirty being son, as was supposed of Joseph of Heli

Und er selbst, Jesus, begann ungefähr dreißig Jahre alt zu werden, und war, wie man meinte, ein Sohn des Joseph, des Eli,

24 of Matthat of Levi of Melchi of Jannai of Joseph

25 of Mattathias of Amos of Nahum of Esli of Naggai
