John 11
1 Was now a certain [man] ailing, Lazarus of Bethany of the village of Mary and Martha the sister of her;
Nu was er een zieke, zekere Lázarus van Betánië, uit het dorp van Maria en van Marta, haar zuster.
2 Was now Mary the [one] having anointed the Lord with fragrant oil and having wiped the feet of Him with the hair of her, whose brother Lazarus was sick.
Het was de Maria, die den Heer met reukwerk gezalfd en zijn voeten met de haren afgedroogd heeft; de zieke Lázarus was haar broer.
3 Sent therefore the sisters to Him saying; Lord, behold [he] whom You love was being sick.
De zusters lieten Hem dus berichten: Zie, Heer: hij, dien Gij liefhebt, is ziek.
4 Having heard then Jesus said; This sickness not is unto death but for the glory of God that may be glorified the Son of God through it.
Toen Jesus dit vernam, zeide Hij: Deze ziekte loopt niet uit op de dood, maar ze dient tot glorie van God, en om Gods Zoon te verheerlijken.
5 was loving now Jesus Martha and the sister of her and Lazarus.
Jesus had Marta, haar zuster en ook Lázarus lief.
6 When therefore He heard that he is sick, then indeed He remained in which He was [the] place two days.
Toen Hij had vernomen, dat hij ziek was, bleef Hij toch nog twee dagen ter plaatse, waar Hij zich bevond.
7 Then after this He says to the disciples; Let us go into Judea again.
Nu eerst sprak Hij tot de leerlingen: Laten we weer naar Judea gaan.
8 Say to Him the disciples; Rabbi, just now were seeking You to stone the Jews, and again You are going there?
De leerlingen zeiden Hem: Rabbi, kort geleden zochten de Joden U te stenigen, en gaat Gij nu opnieuw daarheen?
9 Answered Jesus; Surely twelve hours are there in the day? If anyone shall walk in the day, not he stumbles, because the light of the world this he sees.
Jesus antwoordde: Heeft de dag geen twaalf uren?
10 if however anyone shall walk in the night, he stumbles, because the light not is in him.
Zo iemand wandelt bij dag, dan stoot hij zich niet, omdat hij het licht dezer wereld ziet; maar als hij wandelt bij nacht, dan stoot hij zich, omdat hij geen licht heeft.
11 These things He said and after this He says to them; Lazarus the friend of us has fallen asleep; but I go that I may awaken him.
Zo sprak Hij. Daarna zei Hij tot hen: Onze vriend Lázarus is ingeslapen; maar Ik ga hem wekken.
12 Said therefore the disciples (to Him; *N+KO) Lord, if he has fallen asleep, he will get well.
Zijn leerlingen zeiden Hem: Heer, als hij slaapt, zal hij genezen.
13 Had spoken however Jesus of the death of him; they however thought that of the rest of sleep He speaks.
Maar Jesus had van zijn dood gesproken, terwijl zij meenden, dat Hij van gewoon inslapen sprak.
14 Then therefore said to them Jesus plainly; Lazarus has died.
Daarom zei Jesus hun toen ronduit: Lázarus is gestorven.
15 And I rejoice for sake of you, in order that you may believe, that not I was there; But let us go to him.
En om u verheug Ik mij, dat Ik er niet aanwezig was, opdat gij geloven moogt. Maar laten we nu naar hem toegaan.
16 Said therefore Thomas who is being named Didymus to the fellow disciples; Let us go also us that we may die with Him.
Toen zei Tomas, ook Didumus geheten, tot zijn medeleerlingen: Laten ook wij gaan, om met Hem te sterven.
17 Having come therefore Jesus found him four already days having been in the tomb.
Maar bij zijn aankomst vond Jesus hem reeds vier dagen in het graf.
18 Was now Bethany near Jerusalem about away stadia fifteen.
Daar Betánië dicht bij Jerusalem lag, op ongeveer vijftien stadiën afstand,
19 (and *k) Many (now *no) of the Jews had come unto (concerning *k) Martha and Mary that they may console them concerning the brother (of them. *k)
waren er veel Joden naar Marta en Maria gekomen, om haar hun rouwbeklag te doen over haar broer.
20 Therefore Martha, when she heard that Jesus is coming, met with Him; Mary however in the house was sitting.
Zodra Marta Jesus’ aankomst vernam, ging ze Hem tegemoet; Maria bleef thuis.
21 Said then Martha to Jesus; Lord, if You had been here, not then would (be dead *N+kO) the brother of mine.
En Marta zei tot Jesus: Heer, zo Gij hier waart geweest, was mijn broer niet gestorven.
22 Nevertheless even now I know that as much as maybe You may ask God will give You God.
Maar zelfs nu weet ik nog, dat God U zal geven, wat Gij Hem vraagt.
23 Says to her Jesus; Will rise again the brother of you.
Jesus sprak tot haar: Uw broer zal verrijzen.
24 Says to him Martha; I know that he will rise again in the resurrection in the last day.
Marta zeide Hem: Ik weet, dat hij verrijzen zal bij de opstanding op de jongste dag.
25 Said to her Jesus; I myself am the resurrection and the life; the [one] believing in Me myself even if even if he shall die he will live,
Jesus sprak tot haar: Ik ben de verrijzenis en het leven. Wie in Mij gelooft, zal leven, ook al is hij gestorven;
26 and everyone who is living and believing in Me myself certainly not he shall die to the age. Believe you this? (aiōn g165)
en wie leeft en in Mij gelooft, zal niet sterven voor eeuwig. Gelooft ge dit? (aiōn g165)
27 She says to Him; Yes Lord; I myself have believed that You yourself are the Christ the Son of God the [One] into the world coming.
Ze zeide Hem: Ja, Heer; ik geloof, dat Gij de Christus zijt, Gods Zoon, die in de wereld komt.
28 And (these things *N+kO) having said she went away and she called Mary the sister of her secretly having said; The Teacher is come and He calls you.
Na deze woorden ging ze heen, om Maria, haar zuster, te roepen; heel in stilte zeide ze haar: De Meester is daar, en roept u.
29 She (then *no) when she heard ([she] rose up *N+kO) quickly and (was coming *N+kO) to Him.
Zodra deze het hoorde, stond ze haastig op, en ging naar Hem toe.
30 Not yet now had come Jesus into the village, but was (still *no) in the place where met with Him Martha.
Jesus was nog niet in het dorp gekomen, maar bevond Zich nog op de plaats. waar Marta Hem had ontmoet.
31 The then Jews who are being with her in the house and consoling her, having seen Mary that soon she rose up and went out, followed after her, (having supposed *N+KO) that she is going to the tomb that she may weep there.
De Joden, die bij Maria in huis waren, om hun rouwbeklag te doen, zagen haar ijlings opstaan en heengaan; zij volgden haar, in de mening, dat ze naar het graf ging, om er te wenen.
32 Therefore Mary when she came to where was Jesus, having seen Him she fell of Him (at *N+kO) the feet saying to Him; Lord, if You had been here, not then would my have died brother.
Zodra Maria kwam, waar Jesus was, en Hem zag, viel ze voor zijn voeten neer, en sprak tot Hem: Heer, zo Gij hier waart geweest, was mijn broer niet gestorven.
33 Jesus therefore when He saw her weeping and the having come with her Jews weeping, He was deeply moved in spirit and troubled Himself
Toen Jesus haar zag wenen, en de Joden zag wenen, die haar vergezelden, werd Hij hevig bewogen en ontroerd.
34 And He said; Where have you laid him? They say to Him; Lord, do come and do see.
Hij sprak: Waar hebt gij hem begraven? Ze zeiden Hem: Heer, kom het zien.
35 Wept Jesus.
En Jesus weende.
36 Were saying therefore the Jews; Behold how He was loving him!
De Joden zeiden: Zie, hoe Hij hem liefhad.
37 Some however of them said; Surely was able this [man] who having opened the eyes of the blind to have caused that also this one not may have died?
Maar sommigen hunner zeiden: Kon Hij, die de ogen van den blinde heeft geopend, niet even goed zorgen, dat deze niet stierf?
38 Jesus therefore again being deeply moved in Himself He comes to the tomb; It was now a cave, and a stone was lying against it.
Jesus dan, opnieuw hevig bewogen, kwam bij het graf. Het was een grot, en een steen sloot de ingang af.
39 Says Jesus; do take away the stone. Says to Him the sister of the [one] (having deceased *N+kO) Martha; Lord, already he stinks; four days for it is.
Jesus sprak: Neemt de steen weg. Marta, de zuster van den overledene, zeide Hem: Heer, hij riekt al; want het is reeds de vierde dag.
40 Says to her Jesus; Surely I said to you that if you shall believe you will see the glory of God?
Jesus sprak tot haar: Heb Ik u niet gezegd: Wanneer ge gelooft, zult ge Gods heerlijkheid zien?
41 They took away therefore the stone (where was who having died laid. *K) Now Jesus lifted [His] eyes upwards and said; Father, I thank You that You have heard Me.
Men nam dus de steen weg. Toen sloeg Jesus de ogen omhoog, en sprak: Vader, Ik dank U, omdat Gij Mij hebt verhoord.
42 I myself and knew that always Me You hear; but on account of the crowd which already standing around I said [it], that they may believe that You yourself Me sent.
Ik wist wel, dat Gij Mij altijd verhoort; maar Ik zeg het terwille van de omstaande menigte, opdat ze mogen geloven, dat Gij Mij gezonden hebt.
43 And these things having said in a voice loud He cried out; Lazarus, come forth.
Na deze woorden riep Hij met luider stem: Lázarus, kom uit.
44 (and *k) Came forth the [one] having died bound the feet and the hands with linen strips, and the face of him in a headcloth had bound about. Says to them Jesus: do unbind him and do allow him to go.
En de dode kwam te voorschijn, de voeten en handen in windsels gewikkeld, en zijn gezicht met een zweetdoek omwonden. Jesus zei hun: Maakt hem los, en laat hem gaan.
45 Many therefore of the Jews having come to Mary and having seen (what things *NK+o) He did (Jesus *k) believed in Him.
Velen van de Joden, die naar Maria waren gekomen, en gezien hadden, wat Jesus gedaan had, geloofden daarom in Hem.
46 some however of them went to the Pharisees and told to them what did Jesus.
Maar sommigen van hen liepen naar de farizeën, en deelden hun mee, wat Jesus gedaan had.
47 Gathered therefore the chief priests and the Pharisees a council and they were saying; What are we to do? For this man many does signs!
Toen riepen de opperpriesters en farizeën de Hoge Raad bijeen. Ze zeiden: Wat doen we? Want die man doet veel wonderen.
48 If we shall let him alone Him like this, all will believe in Him, and will come the Romans and will take away of us both the place and the nation.
Als we Hem zó laten begaan, zullen ze allemaal in Hem geloven; dan zullen de Romeinen komen, en ons land en volk verdelgen.
49 One however certain of them Caiaphas, high priest being on the year same, said to them; You yourselves not know no [thing],
Maar één hunner, Káifas, die dat jaar de hogepriester was, sprak tot hen: Weet gij geen uitkomst?
50 nor (consider you *N+kO) that it is profitable (for you *N+KO) that one man may die for the people, and not all the nation may perish.
Beseft gij dan niet, dat het goed voor u is, dat één mens sterft voor het heil van het volk, en niet het hele volk te gronde gaat?
51 This now from himself not he said, but high priest being on the year that he prophesied that was about Jesus to die for the nation,
Dit zei hij niet uit zichzelf. Maar als hogepriester van dat jaar profeteerde hij, dat Jesus sterven zou voor het heil van het volk;
52 and not for the nation only but that also the children of God those scattered He may gather together into one.
en niet voor het volk alleen, maar ook om de verstrooide kinderen Gods bijeen te brengen.
53 From that [very] therefore day (they plotted *N+kO) that they may kill Him.
Van die dag af waren ze besloten, Hem te doden.
54 Therefore Jesus no longer no longer publicly was walking among the Jews, but went away from there into the region near the wilderness to Ephraim being named a city, And there And there (He stayed *N+kO) with the disciples (of him. *k)
Daarom trad Jesus niet meer in het openbaar onder de Joden op, maar trok Hij Zich terug in een streek nabij de woestijn, in een stad, Efrem genaamd; en daar bleef Hij met zijn leerlingen.
55 Was now near the Passover of the Jews, and went up many to Jerusalem out of the region before the Passover so that they may purify themselves.
Intussen was het paasfeest der Joden genaderd, en trokken er velen van het land nog vóór het paasfeest naar Jerusalem op, om zich te reinigen.
56 They were seeking therefore Jesus and were saying among one another in the temple already standing; What does it seem to you, that certainly not He may come to the feast?
Ze zochten naar Jesus, en zeiden in de tempel onder elkander: Wat dunkt u? Zou Hij niet op het feest komen?
57 Had given now (also *k) the chief priests and the Pharisees (commands *N+KO) that if anyone shall know where He is he shall show [it], so that they may seize Him.
Maar de opperpriesters en de farizeën hadden bevel gegeven, het aan te brengen, wanneer iemand wist, waar Hij was; dan konden ze Hem gevangen nemen.
