Hebrews 11
1 Is now faith of [things] hoped for [the] assurance, of things [the] conviction not being seen.
Or, la foi est une persuasion de ce qu'on espère, une conviction de choses qu'on ne voit point.
2 In this for were commended the ancients.
C'est parce qu'ils possédaient une telle foi que les anciens ont reçu un bon témoignage.
3 By faith we understand to have been formed the ages by declaration of God so that which not out of [things] being visible (the [thing] being seen *N+kO) becoming. (aiōn g165)
C'est par la foi que nous reconnaissons que l'univers a été formé par la parole de Dieu, en sorte que ce n'est pas de choses visibles que ce qu'on voit a été fait. (aiōn g165)
4 By faith a more excellent sacrifice Abel than Cain offered to God, through which he was testified to be righteous bearing witness to the gifts of him (God; *NK+o) and through it having died still (he speaks. *N+kO)
C'est par la foi qu'Abel offrit à Dieu un sacrifice préférable à celui de Caïn; c'est par elle qu'il reçut le témoignage d'être juste, lui-même rendant témoignage à Dieu par ses offrandes; c'est par elle que, quoique trépassé, il parle encore.
5 By faith Enoch was translated not to see death and not was he found because took up him God; Before for the translation (of him *k) he has been commended to have pleased God;
C'est par la foi qu'Enoch fut enlevé afin qu'il ne vît pas la mort, et on ne le trouva plus parce que Dieu l'avait enlevé; en effet, avant cet enlèvement, il lui est rendu le témoignage d'avoir plu à Dieu;
6 Without now faith [it is] impossible to please [Him]; To believe for it behooves the one drawing near to God that He exists and [that] to those earnestly seeking out Him a rewarder He becomes.
or, sans la foi, il est impossible de Lui plaire, car il faut que celui qui s'approche de Dieu croie qu'il existe, et qu'il devient le rémunérateur de ceux qui Le cherchent.
7 By faith having been divinely instructed Noah concerning the [things] not yet seen having been moved with fear he prepared an ark for [the] salvation of the household of him, through which he condemned the world and of the according to faith righteousness [that is] he became heir.
C'est par la foi que Noé, instruit par un oracle des choses qu'on ne voyait point encore, construisit avec une pieuse prévoyance une arche pour sauver sa famille; c'est par elle qu'il condamna le monde, et qu'il devint héritier de la justice que procure la foi.
8 By faith (the [one] *o) being called Abraham obeyed to go out into a place that he was going to receive for an inheritance and went out not knowing where he is going.
C'est par la foi que celui qui est appelé Abraham se soumit à émigrer dans le pays qu'il devait recevoir en héritage, et il émigra sans savoir où il allait;
9 By faith he sojourned in (the *k) land of the promise as [in] a foreign [country] in tents having dwelt with Isaac and Jacob the joint-heirs of the promise same;
c'est par la foi qu'il s'établit dans la terre qui lui était promise comme dans une terre étrangère, habitant sous des tentes, ainsi qu'Isaac et Jacob, les cohéritiers de la même promesse;
10 He was awaiting for the foundations having city of which [the] architect and builder [is] God.
car il attendait avec impatience la ville qui a les fondements, celle dont Dieu est l'architecte et le fabricateur.
11 By faith also herself Sarah ([being] barren *N) power for [the] conception of seed received even beyond [the] opportune age (she brought forth *K) since faithful she considered the [One] having promised.
C'est par la foi que Sara elle-même reçut, même au delà de l'âge ordinaire, la capacité de créer une postérité, parce qu'elle avait cru à la fidélité de Celui qui avait fait la promesse.
12 Therefore also from one man were born, and he as good as dead, even as the stars of heaven in multitude and (as *N+kO) the sand by the shore of the sea countless.
De là vient encore que c'est d'un seul homme, et même d'un homme décrépit, qu'ils sont nés aussi nombreux que les étoiles du ciel et que le sable qui est sur le bord de la mer, lequel est innombrable.
13 In faith died these all not (having received *NK+O) the promises but from afar them having seen and (having been persuaded and *K) having embraced [them] and having confessed that strangers and sojourners they are on the earth.
C'est dans la foi qu'ils sont tous morts, sans avoir vu se réaliser pour eux les promesses, mais après en avoir de loin aperçu et salué la réalisation, et avoir confessé qu'ils étaient étrangers et voyageurs sur la terre. »
14 Those for such things saying make manifest that their country they are seeking.
Car ceux qui parlent ainsi montrent clairement qu'ils soupirent après leur patrie.
15 And if indeed that [one] (they were remembering *NK+o) from where (they came out, *N+kO) they had then would opportunity to return;
Et, si c'eût été de celle qu'ils avaient quittée qu'ils faisaient mention, ils auraient eu le temps d'y retourner;
16 (now *N+kO) however to a better [one] they stretch forward to, That is to a heavenly [one]; Therefore not is ashamed of them God God to be called of them; He has prepared indeed for them a city.
mais on voit bien que c'en est une meilleure qu'ils désirent, je veux dire la patrie céleste; c'est pourquoi Dieu n'a point honte, en ce qui les concerne, d'être appelé « leur Dieu », car Il leur a préparé une ville.
17 By faith has offered up Abraham Isaac Being tested, even [his] only begotten [son] was offering up the [one] the promises having received,
C'est par la foi qu'Abraham, mis à l'épreuve, a offert Isaac en sacrifice, et qu'il offrit son fils unique;
18 as to whom it was said that In Isaac will be reckoned your offspring;
lui, qui avait accepté les promesses, et auquel il avait été dit: « C'est en Isaac que se réalisera pour toi le nom de postérité; »
19 having reasoned that even out from [the] dead to raise able [was] God, from where him also in a simile he received.
mais il pensa que Dieu peut relever, même d'entre les morts; d'entre lesquels (figurément, il est vrai, ) il recouvra son fils.
20 By faith (also *no) concerning [the things] coming blessed Isaac Jacob and Esau.
C'est par la foi, et en vue de l'avenir, qu'Isaac bénit Jacob et Ésaü.
21 By faith Jacob dying each of the sons of Joseph blessed and worshiped on the top of the staff of him.
C'est par la foi que Jacob, en mourant, bénit chacun des fils de Joseph, et qu'il adora, en s'appuyant sur l'extrémité de son bâton. —
22 By faith Joseph dying concerning the exodus of the sons of Israel made mention and concerning the bones of him gave instructions.
C'est par la foi que Joseph, en mourant, fit mention de la sortie des fils d'Israël, et donna des ordres relatifs à ses propres ossements.
23 By faith Moses having been born he was hidden three months by the parents of him because they saw [was] beautiful the little child and not they did fear the edict of the king.
C'est par la foi que Moïse, après sa naissance, fut, pendant trois mois, tenu caché par ses parents (car ils voyaient la beauté de l'enfant), et qu'ils ne craignirent point le décret du roi.
24 By faith Moses grown having become he refused to be named [the] son of [the] daughter of Pharaoh,
C'est par la foi que Moïse, étant devenu grand, se refusa à être appelé le fils d'une fille de Pharaon,
25 rather having chosen to suffer affliction with the people of God than [the] temporary to have of sin enjoyment;
aimant mieux être maltraité avec le peuple de Dieu, que de goûter momentanément une jouissance coupable,
26 greater wealth having esteemed than that (in *k) (Egypt *N+kO) treasures the reproach of Christ; he was looking for toward the reward.
et regardant comme une richesse plus grande que les trésors de l'Egypte l'opprobre de Christ, car il avait les yeux fixés sur la rémunération.
27 By faith he left Egypt not having feared the anger of the king; the for Invisible [One] as seeing he persevered.
C'est par la foi qu'il quitta l'Egypte, sans redouter le courroux du roi, car il tint ferme comme s'il voyait l'Invisible.
28 By faith he has kept the Passover and the sprinkling of the blood, so that not the [one] destroying the firstborn may touch them.
C'est par la foi qu'il institua la pâque et l'aspersion du sang, afin que l'exterminateur ne touchât pas leurs premiers-nés.
29 By faith they passed through the Red Sea as through dry (land, *no) which an attempt having made the Egyptians were swallowed up.
C'est par la foi qu'ils traversèrent la mer Rouge comme une terre sèche, tandis que les Égyptiens qui s'y risquèrent furent engloutis.
30 By faith the walls of Jericho (fell *N+kO) having been encircled for seven days.
C'est par la foi que les murs de Jéricho tombèrent, après avoir été investis pendant sept jours.
31 By faith Rahab the prostitute not did perish with those having disobeyed having received the spies with peace.
C'est par la foi que Rahab l'impudique ne périt pas avec les rebelles, parce qu'elle avait pacifiquement reçu les espions.
32 And what more shall I say? Will fail me for telling the time of Gideon, Barak, (both and *k) Samson, (and *k) Jephthah, David also and Samuel and the prophets;
Et que dire encore? Car le temps me manquera si je parle de Gédéon, de Barac, de Samson, de Jephté, de David, et de Samuel, et des prophètes,
33 who through faith conquered kingdoms, administered justice, obtained promises, shut [the] mouths of lions,
qui, par la foi, ont conquis des royaumes, exercé la justice, obtenu des promesses, fermé la gueule des lions,
34 quenched [the] power of fire, escaped [the] blades of [the] sword, (be empowered *N+kO) out of weakness, became mighty in war, [the] armies put to flight of foreigners.
éteint la puissance du feu, échappé au fil de l'épée, recouvré les forces perdues, montré leur vaillance dans la guerre et fait décamper l'ennemi.
35 Received back women by resurrection the dead of them; others then were tortured not having accepted release, so that a better resurrection they may obtain;
Des femmes entrepris, par une résurrection, possession de leurs morts; d'autres ont été torturés, après s'être refusés au rachat, afin d'obtenir une meilleure résurrection;
36 Others then of mockings and of scourgings trial received, in addition also of chains and imprisonment;
d'autres ont eu à subir des outrages et des coups, et même des chaînes et la prison;
37 They were stoned, they were sawed in two (tested *KO) by slaughter of [the] sword they were killed; they wandered in sheepskins, in goats’ skins, being destitute, being oppressed, being mistreated,
ils ont été lapidés, sciés, tentés; ils sont morts par l'épée; ils ont erré, vêtus de peaux de mouton, de peaux de chèvre, dénués de tout, persécutés, maltraités;
38 of whom not was worthy the world; (in *N+kO) deserts wandering and in mountains and in caves and in the holes of the earth.
ils ont été, eux dont le monde n'était pas digne, errants dans les déserts, les montagnes, les cavernes, et les crevasses de la terre.
39 And these all having been commended through the faith not did receive the promise
Et tous ceux-là, quoiqu'ils eussent reçu, à cause de leur foi, un bon témoignage, n'ont point vu se réaliser pour eux les promesses,
40 God for us better something having planned, so that not apart from us they may be made perfect.
car Dieu avait d'avance arrêté pour nous quelque chose de meilleur, afin qu'ils ne fussent pas amenés à la perfection sans nous.
