Galatians 2

1 Then after fourteen years again I went up to Jerusalem with Barnabas (having taken with [me] *NK+o) also Titus;

Ensuite, après quatorze ans d'intervalle, je montai de nouveau à Jérusalem avec Barnabas, en prenant aussi Tite avec moi.

2 I went up now according to a revelation and set before them the gospel that I proclaim among the Gentiles — apart privately however to those esteemed — lest perhaps in vain I may be running or have run.

Mais j'y montai par suite d'une révélation, et je leur exposai l'évangile que je prêche parmi les Gentils, mais je m'entretins séparément avec les plus considérés, afin de ne pas courir ou de n'avoir pas couru inutilement.

3 But not even Titus who [was] with me myself, a Greek being, was compelled to be circumcised;

Mais Tite qui m'accompagnait, et qui était Grec, ne put pas même être contraint de se faire circoncire,

4 because of even the brought in secretly false brothers, who came in by stealth to spy out the freedom of us which we have in Christ Jesus, that us (they will enslave, *N+kO)

et ce fut à cause des faux frères intrus qui s'étaient furtivement introduits pour espionner la liberté que nous possédons en Christ Jésus, afin de nous asservir complètement;

5 to whom not even for an hour did we yield in subjection, so that the truth of the gospel may continue with you.

auxquels nous n'accordâmes, pas même un instant, la soumission qu'ils demandaient, afin que la vérité de l'évangile vous fût maintenue.

6 Of now those esteemed to be something — whatsoever formerly they were no [thing] to me makes a difference; [the] face God of a man not does take [account of]; to me myself for the esteemed no [thing] added,

Mais, de la part de ceux qui étaient tenus en haute considération… quels qu'ils aient été, cela ne me fait rien; Dieu ne fait pas acception de personnes… quant à moi en effet, les plus considérés ne me suggérèrent rien,

7 But on the contrary, having seen that I have been entrusted with the gospel of the uncircumcision even as Peter [with that] of the circumcision

mais au contraire, voyant que l'évangile de l'incirconcision m'a été confié, comme à Pierre celui de la circoncision,

8 the [One] for having worked in Peter for apostleship of the circumcision did also in me myself toward the Gentiles —

(en effet Celui qui a agi en faveur de Pierre pour l'apostolat de la circoncision a aussi agi en ma faveur parmi les Gentils),

9 and having known the grace which having been given to me, James and Cephas and John, those esteemed pillars to be, [the] right hands gave to me myself and to Barnabas of fellowship, that we ourselves [should go] (indeed *o) to the Gentiles, they however to the circumcision,

et reconnaissant la grâce qui m'a été donnée, Jacques, et Céphas, et Jean, qui sont tenus pour les colonnes, me donnèrent leurs mains droites ainsi qu'à Barnabas, en signe d'union, afin que, nous, nous allassions vers les Gentils, et eux vers les circoncis;

10 Only [they asked] the poor that we may remember; that also I was eager [the] same thing to do.

demandant seulement que nous nous souvinssions des pauvres, ce que je me suis aussi appliqué à faire, précisément à cause de cela.

11 When however came (Peter *N+kO) to Antioch, to face his I opposed [him], because condemned he was standing.

Mais, lorsque Céphas vint à Antioche, je lui résistai en face, parce qu'il avait été condamné;

12 Before for to come certain ones from James with the Gentiles he was eating; when however (they came, *NK+O) he was drawing back and he was separating himself being afraid of those of [the] circumcision;

en effet, avant l'arrivée de quelques personnes qui venaient d'auprès de Jacques, il mangeait en commun avec les Gentils, mais quand il fut venu, il s'esquivait et se tenait à l'écart par crainte des circoncis;

13 And acted hypocritically with him also the rest of [the] Jews so that even Barnabas was carried away of them by the hypocrisy.

et les autres Juifs s'associèrent à sa dissimulation, en sorte que Barnabas aussi fut entraîné par leur hypocrisie.

14 But when I saw that not they are walking uprightly according to the truth of the gospel, I said (to Peter *N+kO) before all; If you yourself a Jew being like a Gentile and (not *N+kO) like a Jew live, (why *N+kO) the Gentiles do you compel to Judaize?

Mais, lorsque je vis qu'ils ne marchaient pas droit selon la vérité de l'évangile, je dis à Céphas en présence de tous: « Si toi, qui es Juif, tu vis en Gentil et non en Juif, comment contrains-tu les Gentils à judaïser?

15 We ourselves by birth Jews and not of [the] Gentiles sinners;

Pour nous, nous sommes Juifs de naissance, et non pas des pécheurs d'entre les Gentils;

16 knowing (then *no) that not is justified a man by works of law only except through faith from Jesus Christ even we ourselves in Christ Jesus believed, that we may be justified by faith from Christ and not by works of the Law; (since *N+kO) by works of the Law not will be justified any flesh.

néanmoins, sachant que l'homme n'est point justifié par les œuvres de la loi, mais par la foi en Christ Jésus, nous aussi, nous avons cru en Jésus-Christ, afin d'être justifiés par la foi en Christ et non par les œuvres de la loi; car, par les œuvres de la loi personne ne sera justifié.

17 If however seeking to be justified in Christ have been found also we ourselves sinners, surely not [is] Christ of sin a minister? Never would it be!

Mais, si, en cherchant à être justifiés par Christ, nous-mêmes aussi nous étions trouvés pécheurs, Christ ne devient-il pas un ministre du péché? Loin de nous cette pensée!

18 If for that I had torn down, these things again I build, a transgressor myself I prove;

En effet, si ce que j'ai détruit, je le construis derechef, je me déclare moi-même un transgresseur;

19 I myself for through [the] Law to [the] Law died, that to God I may live.

car, pour moi, c'est par la loi que je suis mort quant à la loi, afin de vivre pour Dieu;

20 to Christ I have been crucified with; I live now no longer no longer I myself, lives however in me myself Christ; that which then now I live in [the] flesh, through faith I live that from the Son of God (and Christ *O) the [One who] having loved me and having given up Himself for me.

j'ai été crucifié avec Christ; si je vis, ce n'est plus moi, mais c'est Christ qui vit en moi; quant à la vie dont je vis maintenant dans ma chair, je vis dans la foi en Dieu et en Christ qui m'a aimé et qui s'est livré lui-même pour moi.

21 Not I do set aside the grace of God; if for through [the] Law righteousness [is], then Christ for naught died.

Je ne rejette pas la grâce de Dieu; car, si c'est par la loi que s'obtient la justice, c'est donc pour rien que Christ est mort! »
