Proverbs 25

1 These also, are proverbs of Solomon, —which the men of Hezekiah king of Judah transcribed.

യെഹൂദാരാജാവായ ഹിസ്കിയാവിന്റെ ആളുകൾ സമാഹരിച്ച ശലോമോന്റെ മറ്റുള്ള സുഭാഷിതങ്ങളാണിവ:

2 The glory of God, is to conceal a thing, but, the glory of kings, is to search out a thing.

വസ്തുതകൾ നിഗൂഢതയിൽ സൂക്ഷിക്കുക എന്നതു ദൈവത്തിന്റെ മഹത്ത്വം; വസ്തുതകൾ അന്വേഷിച്ചു കണ്ടെത്തുക എന്നതു രാജാവിന്റെ മഹത്ത്വം.

3 The heavens for height, and the earth for depth, but, the heart of kings, cannot be searched.

ആകാശത്തിന്റെ ഉന്നതിയും ഭൂമിയുടെ അഗാധതയും മനസ്സിലാക്കുക സാധ്യമല്ല, അതുപോലെ രാജാവിന്റെ മനസ്സ് അന്വേഷണാതീതമാണ്.

4 Remove the dross from the silver, and there cometh forth, to the refiner, a vessel:

വെള്ളിയിൽനിന്ന് കീടം നീക്കംചെയ്യുക, അപ്പോൾ വെള്ളിപ്പണിക്കാർക്കു പാത്രം നിർമിക്കാൻ കഴിയുന്നു;

5 Remove a lawless man from before the king, that his throne, may be established in righteousness.

രാജസദസ്സിൽനിന്ന് നീചരായ ഉദ്യോഗസ്ഥരെ നീക്കുക, അപ്പോൾ രാജസിംഹാസനം നീതിയിൽ സ്ഥാപിതമാകും.

6 Do not honour thyself before a king, nor, in the place of great men, do thou stand;

രാജസന്നിധിയിൽ നിങ്ങളെത്തന്നെ പുകഴ്ത്തരുത്, അവിടത്തെ ഉന്നതർക്കിടയിൽ ഒരു സ്ഥാനം അവകാശപ്പെടരുത്;

7 For better it be said to thee, Come up hither, —than that thou be put lower down before a noble, whom thine own eyes, have beheld.

പ്രഭുക്കന്മാർക്കിടയിൽ അവഹേളിക്കപ്പെടുന്നതിനെക്കാൾ, “ഇവിടെ കയറിവരിക,” എന്നു രാജാവ് നിങ്ങളോടു കൽപ്പിക്കുന്നതാണ് നല്ലത്. നിങ്ങൾ ചില വസ്തുതകൾ കണ്ടു എന്ന കാരണത്താൽ

8 Do not go forth to strive in haste, —lest [thou know not] what to do in the latter end thereof, when thy neighbour, hath put thee to shame.

തിടുക്കത്തിൽ കോടതിവ്യവഹാരത്തിനു കൊണ്ടുവരരുത്, നിങ്ങളുടെ അയൽവാസി നിങ്ങളെ അപമാനപ്പെടുത്തിയാൽ അവസാനം നിങ്ങൾ എന്തുചെയ്യും?

9 Thy contention, urge thou with thy neighbour, and, the secret of another, do not reveal:

അയൽവാസിയുമായി നിങ്ങൾക്കുള്ള തർക്കം ഉന്നയിക്കുന്നതിനിടയിൽ, മറ്റൊരാളുടെ രഹസ്യം ഒറ്റുകൊടുക്കരുത്,

10 Lest he that heareth expose thee, and, the report concerning thee, turn not away.

അങ്ങനെയായാൽ അതു കേൾക്കുന്നയാൾ നിങ്ങളെ അപഹസിക്കും; അവർക്കു നിങ്ങളിലുണ്ടായ അവമതിപ്പ് അവസാനിക്കുകയുമില്ല.

11 Golden fruit in figured silver baskets, is a word spoken on fitting occasion.

തക്കസമയത്തു നൽകുന്ന ഒരു വാക്ക് വെള്ളിത്താലത്തിലെ കനകമയമായ ആപ്പിൾപോലെയാണ്.

12 A ring of gold, and a vessel of precious metal, is a wise reprover, on a hearing ear.

ശ്രദ്ധിക്കുന്ന കാതിനു ജ്ഞാനിയുടെ ശാസന സ്വർണക്കമ്മലുകൾപോലെയും തങ്കത്തിൻ ആഭരണം പോലെയുമാണ്.

13 As the cold of snow in the day of harvest, is a faithful messenger to them who send him, —when, the life of his masters, he restoreth.

വിശ്വസ്ത സന്ദേശവാഹകർ തങ്ങളെ നിയോഗിക്കുന്നവർക്ക് കൊയ്ത്തുകാലത്തെ മഞ്ഞിന്റെ കുളിർമപോലെയാണ്; അവർ തങ്ങളുടെ യജമാനന്റെ ഹൃദയം ഉന്മേഷഭരിതമാക്കുന്നു.

14 Clouds and wind, when rain there is none, is the man who boasteth himself of a pretended gift.

താൻ നൽകാത്ത ദാനത്തെക്കുറിച്ച് വമ്പുപറയുന്നവർ മഴനൽകാത്ത മേഘവും കാറ്റുംപോലെയാണ്.

15 By long patience, is a judge persuaded, and, a soft tongue, breaketh the bone.

ദീർഘക്ഷമയാൽ ഭരണാധികാരിയെപ്പോലും അനുനയിപ്പിക്കാൻ കഴിയും, മൃദുഭാഷണം അസ്ഥിയെപ്പോലും ഭേദിക്കും.

16 Honey having found, eat to suffice thee, lest thou loathe it, and vomit it forth.

നിങ്ങൾക്കു തേൻ ലഭിച്ചാൽ ആവശ്യത്തിനുമാത്രം ഭക്ഷിക്കുക— അമിതമായാൽ അത് ഛർദിച്ചുപോകും.

17 Withhold thy foot from the house of thy neighbour, —lest he be weary of thee, and hate thee.

വല്ലപ്പോഴുംമാത്രം നിങ്ങളുടെ അയൽവീട്ടിൽ പോകുക— കൂടെക്കൂടെയുള്ള സന്ദർശനം, അവർക്കു നിങ്ങളോടു വെറുപ്പുതോന്നിപ്പിക്കും.

18 A hammer and a sword, and a sharpened arrow, is a man becoming a false witness against his neighbour.

തന്റെ അയൽവാസിക്കെതിരേ കള്ളസാക്ഷി പറയുന്നവർ ഗദയോ വാളോ കൂരമ്പോപോലെയാണ്.

19 A broken tooth and a faltering foot, is confidence in the treacherous, in the day of danger.

ആപത്തുനാളുകളിൽ അവിശ്വസ്തരെ ആശ്രയിക്കരുത് പൊട്ടിയ പല്ലോ മുടന്തുള്ള കാലോ പോലെയാണത്.

20 As splendour of dress on a cold day—vinegar upon nitre, so is a singer with songs, unto a sad heart.

വിഷാദിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നവർക്കുവേണ്ടി ആഹ്ലാദഗാനം ആലപിക്കുന്നത്, ശൈത്യകാലത്ത് വസ്ത്രം അപഹരിക്കുന്നവരെപ്പോലെയോ മുറിവിൽ വിന്നാഗിരി ഒഴിക്കുന്നതുപോലെയോ ആണ്.

21 If he that hateth thee hunger, give him bread to eat, and, if he be thirsty, give him water to drink;

നിന്റെ ശത്രുവിനു വിശക്കുന്നെങ്കിൽ അയാൾക്കു ഭക്ഷിക്കാൻ കൊടുക്കുക; ദാഹിക്കുന്നെങ്കിൽ കുടിക്കുന്നതിനു വെള്ളം നൽകുക.

22 For, burning coals, shalt thou be heaping upon his head, —and, Yahweh, will repay thee.

ഇങ്ങനെ ചെയ്യുന്നതിലൂടെ, നിങ്ങൾ ശത്രുവിന്റെ ശിരസ്സിൽ കൽക്കരിക്കനൽ കൂട്ടിവെക്കുകയാണ്, അങ്ങനെയായാൽ യഹോവ നിങ്ങൾക്കു പ്രതിഫലംനൽകും.

23 A north wind, bringeth forth rain, and, a face stirred with indignation, a secretive tongue.

വടക്കൻകാറ്റ് അപ്രതീക്ഷിത മഴ കൊണ്ടുവരുന്നതുപോലെ കാപട്യമുള്ള നാവ് രോഷാകുലമായ നോട്ടം കൊണ്ടുവരുന്നു.

24 Better to dwell on the corner of the roof, than a quarrelsome wife, and a house in common.

കലഹക്കാരിയായ ഭാര്യയോടൊത്ത് വീടിനുള്ളിൽ കഴിയുന്നതിനെക്കാൾ, മേൽപ്പുരയുടെ ഒരു കോണിൽ താമസിക്കുന്നതു നല്ലത്.

25 As cold water to a thirsty soul, so is a good report from a far country.

ക്ഷീണിതമനസ്സിന് ശീതജലം ലഭിക്കുന്നതുപോലെയാണ് വിദൂരദേശത്തുനിന്നു സദ്വാർത്ത വരുന്നത്.

26 A fountain fouled, a spring spoiled, is a righteous man tottering before one who is lawless.

ദുഷ്ടർക്കു വിധേയപ്പെടുന്ന നീതിനിഷ്ഠർ ചെളിനിറഞ്ഞ നീരുറവപോലെയോ മലീമസമായ കിണർപോലെയോ ആകുന്നു.

27 To eat honey in abundance, is not good, nor is, searching out their own honour, an honourable thing.

അമിതമായി തേൻ ഭക്ഷിക്കുന്നത് നല്ലതല്ല, അതുപോലെ സ്വന്തം ബഹുമാനംമാത്രം അന്വേഷിക്കുന്നതും മാന്യമല്ല.

28 A city broken down without a wall, is a man who hath no control over his own spirit.

ആത്മനിയന്ത്രണമില്ലാത്ത മനുഷ്യർ മതിലുകൾ തകർന്നുകിടക്കുന്ന പട്ടണംപോലെയാണ്.
