Philemon 1
1 Paul, prisoner of Christ Jesus, and Timothy my brother, —unto Philemon the beloved, and a fellow worker of ours,
Paul, prisonnier de Christ Jésus, et le frère Timothée, au bien-aimé Philémon, notre coopérateur,
2 And unto Apphia our sister. And unto Archippus our fellow-soldier, and unto the assembly which meeteth, at thy house:

3 Favour unto you, and peace, from God our Father, and Lord Jesus Christ.
que la grâce et la paix vous soient données par Dieu notre Père et par le Seigneur Jésus-Christ!
4 I am giving thanks unto my God—always, making mention, of thee, in my prayers,
J'adresse à mon Dieu de constantes actions de grâces, en faisant mention de toi dans mes prières,
5 Hearing of thy love, and of the faith which thou hast towards the Lord Jesus and towards all the saints, —
étant instruit de la charité et de la foi que tu témoignes envers le Seigneur Jésus, et envers tous les saints,
6 To the end that, the fellowship of thy faith, may become, energetic, by a personal knowledge of every good thing that is in us towards Christ;
afin que la communication de ta foi devienne efficace pour Christ, en faisant reconnaître en nous toute espèce de bien.
7 For, much joy, have I had, and encouragement, by occasion of thy love, in that, the tender affections of the saints, have had rest given them by thee, brother.
J'ai, en effet, éprouvé une grande joie et une grande consolation à cause de ta charité, car grâce à toi, frère, le cœur des saints a été tranquillisé.
8 Wherefore, though I have, much, freedom of speech, in Christ, to be enjoining upon thee that which is befitting,
C'est pourquoi, quoique j'aie en Christ une assurance assez grande pour t'enjoindre ce qui est convenable
9 Yet, for loves sake, I rather exhort, —being, such a one, as Paul the aged, now, also, even a prisoner of Christ Jesus, —
au nom de la nécessité, je préfère l'exhortation. C'est dans cet esprit que, comme Paul, âgé, et maintenant en outre prisonnier de Christ Jésus,
10 I exhort thee concerning my own child, whom I have begotten in my bonds, —Onesimus:
je t'adresse une exhortation à propos de l'enfant que j'ai engendré dans les chaînes, Onésime,
11 Him who, at one time, was, unto thee, unserviceable, but, now, unto thee and unto me, serviceable;
qui t'a été naguère nuisible, mais qui maintenant t'est utile ainsi qu'à moi, et que je t'ai renvoyé,
12 Whom I have sent back unto thee—him, that is, my own, tender affections!—
lui, mes propres entrailles,
13 Whom, I, was minded, with myself, to detain, that, in thy behalf, unto me, he might be ministering in the bonds of the joyful message;
que je voulais retenir auprès de moi, afin que, à ta place, il me rendît service dans les chaînes que je porte pour l'évangile,
14 But, apart from thy mind, I wished to do, nothing, that, not as by necessity, thy goodness should be, but, by choice.
mais je n'ai rien voulu faire sans ton avis, afin que le bien que tu fais ne paraisse point le résultat de la nécessité, mais d'une volonté libre.
15 For, peradventure, for this cause, was he separated for an hour, that, as an age-abiding possession, thou mightest have him back, — (aiōnios g166)
Peut-être, en effet, n'a-t-il été momentanément séparé de toi, qu'afin que tu le retrouves pour l'éternité, (aiōnios g166)
16 No longer as a servant, but above a servant—a brother beloved, very greatly to me, but, how much rather, to thee—both in the flesh and in the Lord!
non plus comme un esclave, mais, bien plus qu'un esclave, comme un frère bien-aimé, de moi surtout, et à bien plus forte raison de toi, soit dans la chair, soit dans le seigneur.
17 If, therefore, thou holdest me as one in thy fellowship, take him unto thee, as myself;
Si donc tu me regardes comme étant étroitement uni à toi, accueille-le comme moi-même,
18 And, if he hath wronged thee at all or oweth thee aught, the same, unto me, do thou reckon: —
et s'il t'a fait quelque tort, ou s'il a contracté envers toi quelque dette, mets-les à mon compte.
19 I, Paul, have written [it] with, my own, hand, —I, will repay [it]; that I may not tell thee—that, thyself, unto me, thou still owest.
C'est moi, Paul, qui ai écrit de ma propre main; c'est moi qui te rembourserai; pour ne pas te rappeler que c'est aussi de ta propre personne que tu es encore mon débiteur.
20 Yea! brother, I, would, from thee, have help, in the Lord: give rest unto my tender affections in Christ.
Oui, frère, c'est moi qui voudrais tirer de toi ce profit dans le Seigneur; tranquillise mon cœur en Christ.
21 Confident of thine obedience, I have written unto thee, knowing that, even beyond what I say, thou wilt do: —
C'est parce que je compte sur ton obéissance, que je t'ai écrit, sachant que tu feras encore au delà de ce que je demande;
22 At the same time, moreover, be also getting ready for me, a lodging; for I am hoping that, through your prayers, I shall be granted as a favour unto you.
mais en outre prépare-moi un logement, car j'espère que, grâce à vos prières, je vous serai rendu.
23 There salute thee—Epaphras my fellow-captive in Christ Jesus,
Epaphras, mon compagnon de captivité, te salue en Christ Jésus,
24 Mark, Aristarchus, Demas, Luke, —my fellow-workers.
ainsi que Marc, Aristarque, Démas et Luc, mes coopérateurs.
25 The favour of the Lord Jesus Christ, be with your spirit.
Que la grâce de notre Seigneur Jésus-Christ soit avec votre esprit!
