Numbers 32
1 Now, much cattle, had come into the possession of the sons of Reuben and of the sons of Gad, an exceeding mighty number. And when they saw the land of Jazer and the land of Gilead, lo! the place, was a place for cattle.
Es hatten aber die Rubeniten und die Gaditen einen großen Viehstand, einen sehr starken. Als sie nun den Bezirk Jaeser und den Bezirk Gilead besichtigten, fanden sie, daß die Gegend zur Viehzucht geeignet sei.
2 So the sons of Gad and the sons of Reuben came in, —and spake unto Moses and unto Eleazar the priest, and unto the princes of assembly, saying,
Da gingen die Gaditen und die Rubeniten hin und sprachen zu Mose und zu Eleasar, dem Priester, und zu den Vorständen der Gemeinde also:
3 As touching Ataroth and Dibon, and Jazer and Nimrah, and Heshbon, and Elealeh, —and Sebam and Nebo, and Beon-
Ataroth, Dibon, Jaeser, Nimra, Hesbon, Eleals, Sebam, Nebo und Beon, -
4 the land which Yahweh smote before the assembly of Israel, a land for cattle, it is, —and, thy servants, have cattle.
der Bezirk, den Jahwe von der Gemeinde Israel hat bezwingen lassen, - ist wohlgeeignet zur Viehzucht, und wir, deine Knechte, haben starken Viehstand.
5 And they said—If we have found favour in thine eyes, let this land be given unto thy servants, for a possession, —do not take us over the Jordan.
Und sie sprachen: Wenn wir Gnade bei dir gefunden haben, so möge doch dieser Bezirk deinen Knechten als erblicher Besitze verliehen werden; führe uns nicht über den Jordan!
6 Then said Moses unto the sons of Gad and unto the sons of Reuben, —Shall, your brethren, go into the war, and ye, settle down here?
Mose antwortete den Gaditen und Rubeniten: Wie? eure Brüder sollen in den Kampf ziehen, und ihr wollt hier bleiben?
7 Wherefore, then, should ye dissuade the heart of the sons of Israel, from passing over into the land which Yahweh hath given to them?
Warum wollt ihr doch euren Brüdern den Mut benehmen, in das Land hinüberzuziehen, das ihnen Jahwe verliehen hat?
8 Thus, did your fathers, —when I sent them from Kadesh-barnea, to view the land,
Gerade so haben eure Väter gehandelt, als ich sie von Kades Barnea aussandte, das Land zu besichtigen.
9 and they went up as far as the ravine of Eschol, and viewed the land, and then dissuaded the heart of the sons of Israel from entering into the land, which Yahweh had given them.
Als sie aber bis zum Thal Eskol gelangt waren und das Land besichtigt hatten, benahmen sie den Israeliten den Mut, so daß sie nicht in das Land wollten, das ihnen Jahwe verliehen hatte.
10 Then was the anger of Yahweh kindled on that day, —and he sware, saying:
Jenes Tags geriet Jahwe in Zorn und that den Schwur:
11 Surely none of the men that came up out of Egypt from twenty years old and upwards, shall see the soil, which I sware unto Abraham, unto Isaac and unto Jacob, because they have not followed after me fully;
Die Männer, die aus Ägypten gezogen sind, von zwanzig Jahren an und darüber, sollen das Land nicht zu sehen bekommen, das ich Abraham, Isaak und Jakob zugeschworen habe. Denn Sie haben mir nicht vollen Gehorsam bewiesen,
12 save Caleb son of Jephunneh, the Kenezite, and Joshua, son of Nun, —for they followed after Yahweh, fully.
ausgenommen Kaleb, der Sohn Jephunnes, der Kenisiter, und Josua, der Sohn Nuns; denn sie haben Jahwe vollen Gehorsam bewiesen.
13 So the anger of Yahweh kindled upon Israel, and he made them wander in the desert, forty years, —until all the generation who had done the evil in the eyes of Yahweh, had wasted away!
Und Jahwe wurde zornig über Israel und er ließ sie hin und her ziehen in der Steppe vierzig Jahre lang, bis das ganze Geschlecht ausgestorben war, das sich gegen Jahwe versündigt hatte.
14 Lo! therefore, ye have arisen in the room of your fathers, a brood of sinful men, —to heap up yet more upon the heat of the anger of Yahweh, towards Israel.
Und nun seid ihr aufgetreten an Stelle eurer Väter, eine Brut von Sündern, um den heftigen Zorn Jahwes über Israel noch zu steigern.
15 If ye do turn away from following him, then will he yet again leave them behind in the desert, —so shall ye bring destruction upon all this people.
Wenn ihr euch von ihm abwendet, so wird er es noch länger in der Steppe lassen, und ihr werdet so dieses ganze Volk ins Verderben stürzen!
16 Then came they near unto him, and said, Folds, for flocks, would we build for our cattle, here, —and cities for our little ones;
Und sie traten zu ihm heran und sprachen: Wir wollen hier Schafhürden für unsere Herden errichten und Städte für unsere kleinen Kinder.
17 but, we, would arm ourselves promptly, before the sons of Israel, until that we have brought them into their place, —so should our little ones remain in the fortified cities, because of the inhabitants of the land.
Wir selbst aber wollen kampfgerüstet an der Spitze der Israeliten einherziehen, bis wir sie in ihre Wohnsitze gebracht haben; unsere kleinen Kinder aber sollen wegen der Bewohner des Landes in den festen Städten bleiben.
18 We would not return unto our houses, —until the sons of Israel have possessed themselves each man, of his inheritance.
Wir wollen nicht eher zu unseren Häusern zurückkehren, als bis sämtliche Israeliten zu ihrem Erbbesitze gelangt sind.
19 For we would not inherit with them, over the Jordan, and onwards, —because our inheritance hath come unto us on this side the Jordan towards sunrise.
Denn wir werden so ja nicht zusammen mit ihnen drüben über dem Jordan Erbbesitz erhalten, sondern uns ist die Gegend östlich vom Jordan als Erbbesitz zugefallen.
20 And Moses said unto them, If ye will indeed do this thing, —if ye will arm yourselves, before Yahweh, for the war;
Mose sprach zu ihnen: Wenn ihr das thun wollt, daß ihr euch im Angesichte Jahwes zum Kampfe rüstet,
21 and every armed man of you pass over the Jordan before Yahweh, —until he hath dispossessed his enemies, from before him;
und daß alle die unter euch, welche gerüstet sind, im Angesichte Jahwes den Jordan überschreiten, bis er seine Feinde vor sich ausgetrieben hat,
22 and the land be subdued before Yahweh then afterwards, shall ye return, and shall be acquitted by Yahweh and by Israel, —and this land shall be yours for a possession before Yahweh.
und ihr erst dann umkehrt, wenn das Land von Jahwe bezwungen ist, so sollt ihr eurer Verpflichtung gegenüber Jahwe und gegenüber Israel ledig sein, und dieses Land soll euch nach dem Willen Jahwes als Erbbesitz zufallen.
23 But, if ye shall not do this, lo! ye will have sinned against Yahweh, —and take note of your sin, that it will find you out.
Wenn ihr aber nicht so handelt, so versündigt ihr euch damit gegen Jahwe und sollt erfahren, was euch infolge eurer Versündigung betreffen wird.
24 Build you cities for your little ones, and folds for your flocks, —and then that which hath gone forth from your mouth, ye shall do.
Baut euch Städte für eure kleinen Kinder und Hürden für eure Schafe und thut, wie ihr gesagt habt.
25 Then spake the sons of Gad, and the sons of Reuben unto Moses, saying, —thy servants, will do, as, my lord, is giving command.
Da erwiderten die Gaditen und Rubeniten Mose Folgendes: Deine Knechte werden thun, wie du, o Herr, befiehlst.
26 Our little ones, our wives, our cattle, and all our beasts, shall remain there in the cities of Gilead;
Unsere kleinen Kinder, unsere Weiber, unser Vieh und unsere sämtlichen Lasttiere sollen hier bleiben in den Städten Gileads.
27 and thy servants, will pass over every one armed for war, before Yahweh to battle, —as, my lord is speaking.
Wir aber, deine Knechte, wollen im Angesichte Jahwes, so viele von uns kriegsgerüstet sind, hinüber in den Kampf ziehen, wie du, o Herr, gesagt hast.
28 So Moses gave command concerning them, unto Eleazar the priest and unto Joshua son of Nun, and unto the heads of the fathers of the tribes, of the sons of Israel;
Da gab Mose Eleasar, dem Priester, und Josua, dem Sohne Nuns, und den Stammhäuptern der Israeliten ihrethalben Anweisung.
29 and Moses said unto them—If the sons of Gad and the son of Reuben will pass with you over the Jordan, every one armed for the war before Yahweh, and the land be subdued before you, then shall ye give unto them the land of Gilead, for a possession.
Und Mose sprach zu ihnen: Wenn die Gaditen und Rubeniten, so viele ihrer gerüstet sind, mit euch im Angesichte Jahwes über den Jordan hinüber in den Kampf ziehen, und das Land von euch bezwungen sein wird, so gebt ihnen das Land Gilead zum Erbbesitz.
30 But, if they will not pass over armed, with you, then shall they accept a possession in your midst, in the land of Canaan.
Ziehen sie aber nicht kampfgerüstet mit euch hinüber, so sollen sie unter euch in Kanaan ansässig werden.
31 Then responded the sons of Gad and the sons of Reuben, saying, —That which Yahweh had spoken unto thy servants, so, will we do.
Da antworteten die Gaditen und Rubeniten also: Wie Jahwe in Bezug auf uns, deine Knechte, geredet hat, so wollen wir thun.
32 We, will pass over armed, before Yahweh into the land of Canaan, —then shall be ours, the possession of our inheritance across the Jordan.
Wir wollen kampfgerüstet im Angesichte Jahwes hinüberziehen nach Kannan, damit uns unser Erbbesitz jenseits des Jordans verbleibe.
33 So then Moses gave unto them even unto the sons of Gad and unto the sons of Reuben and unto the half tribe of Manasseh son of Joseph the kingdom of sihon, king of the Amorites, and the kingdom of Og, the king of Bashan, the land by her cities with boundaries, even the cities of the land round about.
Da verlieh ihnen Mose - den Gaditen, den Rubeniten und dem halben Stamme Mansses, des Sohnes Josephs, - das Königreich Sihons, des Königs der Amoriter, und das Königreich Ogs, des Königs von Basan, das Land und die Städte darin samt den zugehörigen Bezirken, die Städte im Lande ringsum.
34 And the sons of Gad built Dibon, and Ataroth, —and Aroer;
Da bauten die Gaditen wieder auf: Dibon, Ataroth, Aroer,
35 and Atroth-shophan and Jazer, and Jogbehah;
Aterot, Sophan, Jaeser, Jogbeha,
36 and Beth-nimrah, and Beth-haran, —fortified cities and folds for flocks.
Beth Nimra und Beth Haran - feste Städte und Schafhürden.
37 And the sons of Reuben built Heshbon, and Elealeh, —and Kiriathaim,
Die Rubeniten aber bauten wieder auf: Hesbon, Eleale, Kirjathaim,
38 and Nebo and Baal-meon—their names being changed, and Sibmah, —and they gave names to the cities which they built.
Nebo, Baal Meon (mit verändertem Namen zu sprechen!) und Sibma; und sie gaben den Städten, die sie wieder aufgebaut hatten, Namen.
39 Then went the sons of Machir son of Manasseh to Gilead, and captured it, and dispossessed the Amorites who were therein,
Die Söhne Machirs aber, des Sohnes Manasses, zogen nach Gilead und eroberten es und vertrieben die Amoriter, die darin waren.
40 So Moses gave Gilead unto Machir son of Manasseh, and he dwelt therein.
Und Mose verlieh Machir, dem Sohne Manasses, Gilead, und er ließ sich darin nieder.
41 And Jair, son of Manasseh, went, and captured their encampments, —and called them Havvoth-jair ["The encampments of Jair"].
Jair aber, der Sohn Machirs, zog hin, eroberte ihre Zeltdörfer und nannte sie Zeltdörfer Jairs.
42 And, Nobah, went, and captured Kenath, with the villages thereof, —and called it Nobah, after his own name.
Und Nobah zog hin, eroberte Kenath samt den zugehörigen Ortschaften und benannte es nach seinem Namen Nobah.
