Numbers 20
1 Then came the sons of Israel the whole assembly, into the desert of Zin in the first month, and the people dwelt in Kadesh, —and Miriam died there, and was buried there.
Και ήλθον οι υιοί Ισραήλ, πάσα συναγωγή, εις την έρημον Σιν, τον πρώτον μήνα· και έμεινεν ο λαός εν Κάδης· και απέθανεν εκεί η Μαριάμ και ετάφη εκεί.
2 And there was no water for the assembly, —so they gathered together against Moses and against Aaron.
Και δεν ήτο ύδωρ διά την συναγωγήν· και συνηθροίσθησαν κατά του Μωϋσέως και κατά του Ααρών.
3 And the people contended with Moses, —and spake saying, Would then we had died when our brethren died, before Yahweh!
Και ο λαός ελοιδόρει κατά του Μωϋσέως και είπον, λέγοντες, Είθε ν' απεθνήσκομεν, ότε οι αδελφοί ημών απέθανον ενώπιον του Κυρίου.
4 Wherefore then hast thou brought the convocation of Yahweh into this desert, —to die there, we, and our cattle?
Και διά τι ανεβιβάσατε την συναγωγήν του Κυρίου εις την έρημον ταύτην, διά να αποθάνωμεν εκεί ημείς και τα κτήνη ημών;
5 And wherefore did ye cause us to come up out of Egypt, to bring us into this wretched place?—not a place of seeds, and figs, and vines and pomegranates, even water, is there none to drink.
και διά τι ανεβιβάσατε ημάς εκ της Αιγύπτου, διά να φέρητε ημάς εις τον κακόν τούτον τόπον; ούτος δεν είναι τόπος σποράς ή σύκων ή αμπέλων ή ροδίων· ουδέ ύδωρ υπάρχει διά να πίωμεν.
6 And Moses and Aaron went in from the presence of the multitude unto the entrance of the tent of meeting, and fell upon their faces, —and the glory of Yahweh appeared unto them.
Και ήλθον ο Μωϋσής και ο Ααρών απ' έμπροσθεν της συναγωγής εις την θύραν της σκηνής του μαρτυρίου και έπεσον κατά πρόσωπον αυτών· και εφάνη εις αυτούς η δόξα του Κυρίου.
7 Then spake Yahweh unto Moses, saying:
Και ελάλησε Κύριος προς τον Μωϋσήν, λέγων,
8 Take the staff and gather together the assembly, thou, and Aaron thy brother, then shall ye speak unto the cliff before their eyes and it shall give forth its waters, —so shalt thou bring forth unto them water, out of the cliff, and shalt cause the assembly, and their cattle to drink.
Λάβε την ράβδον και συγκάλεσον την συναγωγήν συ και Ααρών ο αδελφός σου, και λαλήσατε προς την πέτραν ενώπιον αυτών· και θέλει δώσει τα ύδατα αυτής, και θέλεις εκβάλει εις αυτούς ύδωρ εκ της πέτρας· και θέλεις ποτίσει την συναγωγήν και τα κτήνη αυτών.
9 And Moses took the staff from before Yahweh, —as he commanded him.
Και έλαβεν ο Μωϋσής την ράβδον απ' έμπροσθεν του Κυρίου, καθώς προσέταξεν εις αυτόν·
10 And Moses and Aaron gathered together the convocation before the cliff, —and he said unto them: Hear I pray you ye rebels! Out of this cliff, must we bring forth for you water?
και συνεκάλεσαν Μωϋσής και ο Ααρών την συναγωγήν έμπροσθεν της πέτρας· και είπε προς αυτούς, Ακούσατε τώρα, σεις οι απειθείς· να σας εκβάλωμεν ύδωρ εκ της πέτρας ταύτης;
11 And Moses lifted high his hand and smote the cliff with his staff, twice, —and there came forth water in abundance, and the assembly and their cattle, did drink.
Και υψώσας ο Μωϋσής την χείρα αυτού εκτύπησε με την ράβδον αυτού την πέτραν δίς· και εξήλθον ύδατα πολλά· και έπιεν η συναγωγή και τα κτήνη αυτών.
12 Then said Yahweh unto Moses and unto Aaron, Because ye believed not in me, to hallow me in the eyes of the sons of Israel, therefore, shall ye not bring in this convocation into the land which I have given unto them.
Και είπε Κύριος προς τον Μωϋσήν και προς τον Ααρών, Επειδή δεν με επιστεύσατε, διά να με αγιάσητε έμπροσθεν των υιών Ισραήλ, διά τούτο σεις δεν θέλετε φέρει την συναγωγήν ταύτην εις την γην, την οποίαν έδωκα εις αυτούς.
13 The same, were the waters of Meribah [that is "Contention"] in that the sons of Israel contended with Yahweh, —and so he hallowed himself among them.
τούτο είναι το ύδωρ Μεριβά· διότι οι υιοί Ισραήλ ελοιδόρησαν κατά του Κυρίου, και αυτός ηγιάσθη εν αυτοίς.
14 And Moses sent messengers from Kadesh, unto the king of Edom, —Thus, saith thy brother Israel, Thou thyself, knowest all the distress which befell us;
Και απέστειλε Μωϋσής πρέσβεις από Κάδης προς τον βασιλέα του Εδώμ, λέγων, Ταύτα λέγει ο αδελφός σου Ισραήλ· συ εξεύρεις πάσαν την ταλαιπωρίαν ήτις μας εύρηκεν·
15 and how our fathers went down to Egypt, and we abode in Egypt, many days, and that the Egyptians ill-treated us, and our fathers;
ότι κατέβησαν οι πατέρες ημών εις την Αίγυπτον και κατωκήσαμεν πολύν καιρόν εν Αιγύπτω· και οι Αιγύπτιοι κατεδυνάστευσαν ημάς και τους πατέρας ημών·
16 and we made outcry unto Yahweh, and he heard our voice, and sent a messenger, and brought us forth out of Egypt, —lo! then, we, are in Kadesh, a city at the extremity of thy boundary,
και ανεβοήσαμεν προς τον Κύριον και αυτός εισήκουσε της φωνής ημών και απέστειλεν άγγελον και εξήγαγεν ημάς εκ της Αιγύπτου· και ιδού, είμεθα εν Κάδης, πόλει εις τα άκρα των ορίων σου·
17 Let us, we pray thee, pass through thy land—we will not pass through field or vineyard, nor will we drink the waters of a well, —by the king’s road, will we go—we will turn neither to the right hand nor to the left, until we get through thy boundary.
ας περάσωμεν, παρακαλώ, διά της γης σου· δεν θέλομεν περάσει διά των αγρών ή διά των αμπελώνων, ουδέ θέλομεν πίει ύδωρ εκ των φρεάτων· θέλομεν περάσει διά της βασιλικής οδού· δεν θέλομεν εκκλίνει δεξιά ή αριστερά, εωσού περάσωμεν τα όριά σου.
18 And Edom said unto him, Thou shalt not pass through my land, —lest with the sword, I come out to meet thee.
Και είπε προς αυτόν ο Εδώμ, Δεν θέλεις περάσει διά της γης μου· ει δε μη, θέλω εξέλθει εν μαχαίρα εις συνάντησίν σου.
19 And the sons of Israel said unto him—By the highway, will we go up, and if thy waters, we should drink—I, and my cattle then would I give the price thereof, —only—it is nothing!—with my feet, would I pass through.
Και οι υιοί Ισραήλ είπον προς αυτόν, Ημείς διαβαίνομεν διά της λεωφόρου· και εάν εγώ και τα κτήνη μου πίωμεν εκ του ύδατός σου, θέλω πληρώσει αυτό· θέλω διαβή μόνον επί ποδός, ουδέν άλλο.
20 And he said, Thou shalt not pass through. And Edom came out to meet him, with a strong people, and with a firm hand.
Ο δε είπε, Δεν θέλεις διαβή. Και εξήλθεν ο Εδώμ εναντίον αυτού μετά πολλού λαού και εν χειρί ισχυρά.
21 Thus did Edom refuse to give Israel passage through his boundary, —and Israel turned away from him.
Ούτως ηρνήθη ο Εδώμ να δώση διάβασιν εις τον Ισραήλ διά των ορίων αυτού· και εξέκλινεν ο Ισραήλ απ' αυτού.
22 Then set they forward from Kadesh, —and the sons of Israel. all the assembly, came in to Mount Hor.
Και εσηκώθησαν οι υιοί Ισραήλ, πάσα η συναγωγή, από Κάδης και ήλθον εις το όρος Ωρ.
23 Then spake Yahweh unto Moses and unto Aaron in Mount Hor, —near the boundary of the land of Edom saying:
Και ελάλησε Κύριος προς τον Μωϋσήν και προς τον Ααρών εν τω όρει Ωρ πλησίον των ορίων της γης Εδώμ, λέγων,
24 Aaron shall be withdrawn unto his kinsfolk, for he shall not enter into the land. which I have given unto the sons of Israel, —because ye spurned my bidding, at the waters of Meribah.
Ο Ααρών θέλει προστεθή εις τον λαόν αυτού· διότι δεν θέλει εισέλθει εις την γην, την οποίαν έδωκα εις τους υιούς Ισραήλ· επειδή ηπειθήσατε εις τον λόγον μου εις το ύδωρ Μεριβά·
25 Take thou Aaron, and Eleazar his son, —and bring them up Mount Hor;
λάβε τον Ααρών και Ελεάζαρ τον υιόν αυτού και αναβίβασον αυτούς εις το όρος Ωρ·
26 and strip thou Aaron of his garments, and put them upon Eleazar his son, —and, Aaron, shall be withdrawn and shall die there.
και έκδυσον τον Ααρών την στολήν αυτού και ένδυσον αυτήν Ελεάζαρ τον υιόν αυτού· και ο Ααρών θέλει προστεθή εις τον λαόν αυτού και θέλει αποθάνει εκεί.
27 And Moses did as Yahweh commanded, —and they went up into, Mount Hor, in sight of all the assembly.
Και έκαμεν ο Μωϋσής καθώς προσέταξεν ο Κύριος· και ανέβησαν εις το όρος Ωρ έμπροσθεν πάσης της συναγωγής.
28 And Moses stripped Aaron of his garments and put them upon Eleazar his son, and Aaron died there, in the top of the mount, —and Moses and Eleazar came down out of the mount.
Και εξέδυσεν ο Μωϋσής τον Ααρών την στολήν αυτού και ενέδυσεν αυτήν Ελεάζαρ τον υιόν αυτού· και απέθανεν ο Ααρών εκεί επί της κορυφής του όρους· και κατέβησαν Μωϋσής και Ελεάζαρ από του όρους.
29 And all the assembly saw that Aaron was dead; and they bewailed Aaron thirty days, even all the house of Israel.
Και είδε πάσα η συναγωγή ότι ετελεύτησεν ο Ααρών· και επένθησαν τον Ααρών τριάκοντα ημέρας πας ο οίκος Ισραήλ.
