Nehemiah 13
1 On that day, a portion, was read in the book of Moses, in the ears of the people, —and it was found written therein, that the Ammonite and the Moabite should not enter into the convocation of God, unto times age-abiding;
An selbigem Tage wurde in dem Buche Moses vor den Ohren des Volkes gelesen; und es fand sich darin geschrieben, daß kein Ammoniter und Moabiter in die Versammlung Gottes kommen sollte ewiglich;
2 because they met not the sons of Israel, with bread and with water, —but hired against them Balaam, to curse them, although our God turned the curse into a blessing.
weil sie den Kindern Israel nicht mit Brot und mit Wasser entgegen gekommen waren, und Bileam wider sie gedungen hatten, um sie zu verfluchen; [Vergl. 5. Mose 23,3. 4] aber unser Gott wandelte den Fluch in Segen.
3 So it came to pass, when they had heard the law, —that they separated all the mixed multitude from Israel.
Und es geschah, als sie das Gesetz hörten, da sonderten sie alles Mischvolk von Israel ab.
4 Now, before this, Eliashib the priest, who was set over a chamber of the house of God, was allied unto Tobiah;
Und vor diesem hatte Eljaschib, der Priester, der über die Zellen des Hauses unseres Gottes gesetzt war, ein Verwandter des Tobija,
5 so he prepared him a large chamber, where aforetime they used to lay the meal-offering, the frankincense, and the utensils, and the tithe of the corn, the new wine and the oil, in charge of the Levites, and the singers, and the doorkeepers, —and the heave-offerings for the priests.
diesem eine große Zelle gemacht, wohin man vordem die Speisopfer legte, den Weihrauch und die Geräte und den Zehnten vom Getreide, Most und Öl, das für die Leviten und die Sänger und die Torhüter Gebotene, und die Hebopfer der Priester.
6 But, throughout all this [time], was I not in Jerusalem, —for, in the thirty-second year of Artaxerxes king of Babylon, I came unto the king, and, at the end of certain days, obtained I leave of the king;
Während diesem allem war ich aber nicht in Jerusalem; denn im 32. Jahre Artasastas, des Königs von Babel, war ich zu dem König zurückgekommen. Und nach Verlauf einer Zeit erbat ich mir Urlaub von dem König;
7 and came to Jerusalem, —and had intelligence of the wickedness which Eliashib had committed for Tobiah, in preparing for him a chamber, in the courts of the house of God;
und als ich nach Jerusalem kam, bemerkte ich das Böse, welches Eljaschib zugunsten Tobijas getan, indem er ihm eine Zelle in den Höfen des Hauses Gottes gemacht hatte.
8 and it grieved me exceedingly, —and I cast forth all the household utensils of Tobiah, outside of the chamber.
Und es mißfiel mir sehr, und ich warf alle Hausgeräte Tobijas aus der Zelle hinaus;
9 Then commanded I, and they purified the chambers, —and I put back there, the utensils of the house of God, the meal-offering and the frankincense.
und ich befahl, daß man die Zellen reinigen sollte; und ich brachte die Geräte des Hauses Gottes, das Speisopfer und den Weihrauch wieder hinein.
10 Then came I to know, that, the portions of the Levites, had not been given [them], —so that the Levites and the singers, who had been doing the work, had fled every one to his field.
Und ich erfuhr, daß die Teile der Leviten nicht gegeben worden, und daß die Leviten und die Sänger, welche das Werk taten, entflohen waren, ein jeder auf sein Feld. [S. Kap. 12, 28. 29]
11 Therefore contended I with the deputies, and said, Wherefore is the house of God, forsaken? So I gathered them together, and set them in their place.
Da zankte ich mit den Vorstehern und sprach: Warum ist das Haus Gottes verlassen worden? Und ich versammelte sie und stellte sie an ihre Stelle.
12 Then, all Judah, brought in the tithe of corn, and new wine, and oil, unto the treasuries;
Und ganz Juda brachte den Zehnten vom Getreide und Most und Öl in die Vorratskammern.
13 and I made treasurers over the treasuries—Shelemiah the priest, and Zadok the scribe, and Pedaiah from among the Levites, and, next unto them, Hanan son of Zaccur, son of Mattaniah, —for faithful were they accounted, and it was [laid] upon them to distribute unto their brethren.
Und ich bestellte zu Schatzmeistern über die Vorräte: Schelemja, den Priester, und Zadok, den Schreiber, und Pedaja, von den Leviten, und ihnen zur Seite Hanan, den Sohn Sakkurs, des Sohnes Mattanjas; denn sie wurden für treu geachtet, und ihnen lag es ob, ihren Brüdern auszuteilen.
14 Remember me, O my God, concerning this, —and do not wipe out my lovingkindnesses, which I have done for the house of my God, and for those keeping charge thereof.
Gedenke meiner um dessentwillen, mein Gott, und tilge nicht aus meine guten Taten, die ich am Hause meines Gottes und an dessen Hut [Eig. an dessen Beobachtungen, Dienstleistungen] erwiesen habe!
15 In those days, saw I in Judah—some treading winepresses on the sabbath, and bringing in sheaves and lading asses, moreover also wine, grapes, and figs, and every kind of burden, which they were bringing into Jerusalem on the sabbath day, —so I protested against it, as a day for them to sell provisions.
In jenen Tagen sah ich einige in Juda, welche am Sabbath die Keltern traten, und Garben einbrachten und auf Esel luden, und auch Wein, Trauben und Feigen und allerlei Last, und es am Sabbathtage nach Jerusalem hereinbrachten; und ich zeugte wider sie [O. warnte, ermahnte sie; so auch v 21] an dem Tage, da sie die Lebensmittel verkauften.
16 And, men of Tyre, dwelt therein, who were bringing in fish—and every kind of ware for sale, —and were selling, on the sabbath, to the sons of Judah, and in Jerusalem;
Auch Tyrer wohnten darin, welche Fische und allerlei Waren hereinbrachten und sie am Sabbath den Kindern Juda und in Jerusalem verkauften.
17 so I contended with the nobles of Judah, —and said unto them, What is this wicked thing which, ye, are doing, and profaning the sabbath day?
Da zankte ich mit den Edlen von Juda und sprach zu ihnen: Was ist das für eine böse Sache, die ihr tut, daß ihr den Sabbathtag entheiliget?
18 Was it not, thus, your fathers did, and our God brought upon us all this calamity, and upon this city?—and, ye, would add indignation against Israel, by profaning the sabbath!
Haben nicht eure Väter ebenso getan, so daß unser Gott all dieses Unglück über uns und über diese Stadt brachte? Und ihr mehret die Zornglut über Israel, indem ihr den Sabbath entheiliget!
19 And it came to pass, when the gates of Jerusalem made a shadow before the sabbath, then gave I word, and they shut the doors, and I gave word, that they should not open them, until after the sabbath, —and, some of my young men, set I near the gates, so that no burden should be brought in, on the sabbath day.
Und es geschah, sowie es in den Toren Jerusalems vor dem Sabbath dunkel wurde, da befahl ich, daß die Türen geschlossen würden; und ich befahl, daß man sie nicht auftun sollte bis nach dem Sabbath. Und ich bestellte einige von meinen Dienern [S. die Anm. zu Kap. 4,16] über die Tore, damit keine Last am Sabbathtage hereinkäme.
20 But the traders and sellers of all kinds of wares lodged outside Jerusalem once or twice.
Da übernachteten die Krämer und die Verkäufer von allerlei Ware draußen vor Jerusalem einmal und zweimal.
21 Therefore I testified against them, and said unto them, Wherefore are ye lodging against the wall? if ye do it again, a hand, will I thrust upon you, —From that time, they came not on the sabbath.
Und ich zeugte wider sie und sprach zu ihnen: Warum übernachtet ihr vor der Mauer? Wenn ihr es wieder tut, werde ich Hand an euch legen! Von dieser Zeit an kamen sie nicht mehr am Sabbath.
22 And I gave word to the Levites, that they should be purifying themselves and coming in, as keepers of the gates, to hallow the sabbath day. This also, remember to me, O my God, and have pity upon me, according to the abundance of thy lovingkindness.
Und ich befahl den Leviten, daß sie sich reinigen und kommen sollten, die Tore zu bewachen, um den Sabbathtag zu heiligen. Auch das gedenke mir, mein Gott, und schone meiner nach der Größe deiner Güte! [O. Huld]
23 Moreover, in these days, saw I the Jews who had married women of Ashdod, of Ammon, of Moab;
Auch besuchte ich in jenen Tagen die Juden, welche asdoditische, ammonitische und moabitische Weiber heimgeführt hatten. [Vergl. Esra 9,1;10,2 usw.]
24 and, their children, were one-half speaking the language of Ashdod, and understood not how to speak the language of the Jews, —but after the tongue of both people.
Und die Hälfte ihrer Kinder redete asdoditisch und wußte nicht jüdisch zu reden, sondern redete nach der Sprache des einen oder anderen Volkes.
25 So I contended with them, and laid a curse upon them, and I smote, from among them, certain men, and pulled out their hair, —and I put them on oath by God, Ye shall not give your daughters unto their sons, nor take of their daughters, for your sons nor for yourselves.
Und ich zankte mit ihnen und fluchte ihnen, und schlug einige Männer von ihnen und raufte sie. Und ich beschwor sie bei Gott: [O. ließ sie schwören bei Gott und sprach] Wenn ihr eure Töchter ihren Söhnen geben werdet, und wenn ihr von ihren Töchtern für eure Söhne und für euch nehmen werdet!
26 Was it not, over these things, that Solomon king of Israel sinned—though, among many nations, there was no king such as he, and he was, beloved by his God, and so God gave him to be king over all Israel, —even him, did foreign women, cause to sin.
Hat nicht Salomo, der König von Israel, ihretwegen [d. h. der fremden Weiber wegen] gesündigt? Und seinesgleichen ist unter den vielen Nationen kein König gewesen; und er war geliebt von seinem Gott, und Gott setzte ihn zum König über ganz Israel; doch ihn [O. selbst ihn] machten die fremden Weiber sündigen.
27 Unto you, then, shall we hearken, to do all this great wickedness, to act unfaithfully with our God, —by marrying foreign wives?
Und sollten wir auf euch hören, [O. und sollte man von euch hören] daß ihr all dieses große Übel tut, treulos zu handeln gegen unseren Gott, indem ihr fremde Weiber heimführet!
28 And, one of the sons of Joiada, son of Eliashib the high priest, was son-in-law to Sanballat the Horonite, —therefore I chased him from me.
Und einer von den Söhnen Jojadas, des Sohnes Eljaschibs, des Hohenpriesters, war ein Eidam Sanballats, des Horoniters; und ich jagte ihn von mir weg.
29 Remember them, O my God, —on account of the Defilings of the Priesthood, and the Covenant of the Priesthood, and of the Levites.
Gedenke es ihnen, mein Gott, wegen der Verunreinigungen des Priestertums und des Bundes des Priestertums und der Leviten!
30 So I purified them from everything foreign, —and appointed charges unto the priests and unto the Levites, every one in his work;
Und so reinigte ich sie von allem Fremden, [O. allen Fremden] und ich stellte die Dienstleistungen der Priester und der Leviten fest, für einen jeden in seinem Geschäft,
31 also for the offering of wood, at times appointed, and for the firstfruits. Remember me, O my God, for good!
und für die Holzspende zu bestimmten Zeiten und für die Erstlinge. Gedenke es mir, mein Gott, zum Guten!
