Matthew 2
1 Now, when, Jesus, was born in Bethlehem of Judaea, in the days of Herod the king, lo! wise men from eastern parts, came into Jerusalem:
Or, après que Jésus fut né à Bethléem de Judée, au temps du roi Hérode, voici, des mages d'Orient arrivèrent à Jérusalem,
2 saying—Where is he that hath been born king of the Jews? for we saw his star in the east, and have come to bow down to him.
disant: « Où est le roi des Juifs qui vient d'être mis au monde? Car nous avons vu son astre en Orient, et nous sommes venus pour l'adorer. »
3 But, when King Herod heard, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him;
Mais le roi Hérode l'ayant appris, fut troublé et tout Jérusalem avec lui;
4 and, assembling all the high-priests and scribes of the people, he was enquiring of them—Where is, the Christ, to be born?
et, après avoir rassemblé tous les grands prêtres et les scribes du peuple, il s'informait d'eux où devait naître le Christ.
5 And, they, said to him, In Bethlehem of Judaea, —for, so, is it written through the prophet:
Et ils lui dirent: « A Bethléem de Judée; c'est ainsi en effet qu'il a été écrit par l'entremise du prophète:
6 And, thou, Bethlehem, land of Judah, by no means least, art thou, among the governors of Judah, —For, out of thee, shall one come forth to govern, Who shall shepherd my people Israel.
Et toi Bethléem, terre de Juda, tu n'es certes point la moindre parmi les chefs de Juda, car c'est de toi que sortira un souverain qui paîtra mon peuple d'Israël. »
7 Then Herod, privately, calling the wise men, ascertained from them the time of the appearing star;
Alors Hérode, ayant secrètement mandé les mages, s'enquit avec soin auprès d'eux du temps depuis lequel l'astre se montrait,
8 and sending them to Bethlehem, said—Go search out accurately concerning the child, —and, as soon as ye find it, bring report unto me, that, I also, may come and bow myself down to it.
et les envoyant à Bethléem, il dit: « Allez, et prenez d'exactes informations sur le petit enfant; mais, quand vous l'aurez découvert, faites-le-moi savoir, afin que moi aussi j'aille l'adorer. »
9 Now, they, hearing the king, went, and lo! the star which they had seen in the east, was going before them, until it went and stood over where the child was;
Pour eux, après avoir ouï le roi, ils se mirent en route; et voici, l'astre qu'ils avaient vu en Orient les précédait, jusqu'à ce qu'il s'arrêta dans sa marche au-dessus du lieu où était le petit enfant.
10 and, seeing the star, they rejoiced with exceeding great joy;
Or à la vue de l'astre ils furent remplis d'une très grande joie;
11 and, coming into the house, they saw the child, with Mary its mother, —and, falling down, prostrated themselves unto it, and, opening their treasures, offered unto it gifts—gold and frankincense and myrrh;
et, étant entrés dans la maison, ils virent le petit enfant avec Marie sa mère, et s'étant prosternés ils l'adorèrent, et ayant ouvert leurs trésors ils lui offrirent en présent de l'or, et de l'encens et de la myrrhe.
12 and, being instructed by dream, not to return unto Herod, by another way, retired they unto their own country.
Et ayant été avertis dans un songe de ne point retourner vers Hérode, ils regagnèrent leur pays par un autre chemin.
13 Now, when they had retired, lo! a messenger of the Lord, appeareth by dream unto Joseph, saying, Arise, take unto thee the child and its mother, and flee into Egypt, and be there, until I tell thee, —for Herod is about to seek the child, to destroy it.
Or, après qu'ils eurent regagné leur pays, voici, un ange du Seigneur apparut en songe à Joseph, disant: Éveille-toi, prends avec toi le petit enfant et sa mère, et fuis en Egypte, et demeures-y jusques à ce que je te le dise; car Hérode va se mettre en quête du petit enfant pour le faire périr. »
14 And, he, arising, took unto him the child and its mother, by night, and retired into Egypt;
Or, s'étant éveillé, il prit avec lui le petit enfant et sa mère pendant la nuit, et il gagna l'Egypte,
15 and was there, until the death of Herod, —that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the Lord through the prophet, saying, Out of Egypt, called I my son.
et il y séjourna jusqu'au trépas d'Hérode; — afin que fût accompli ce dont le Seigneur a parlé par l'entremise du prophète lorsqu'il dit: « De l'Egypte j'ai rappelé Mon fils. » —
16 Then Herod, seeing that he had been mocked by the wise men, was exceedingly enraged, —and sent and slew all the male children that were in Bethlehem, and in all its bounds, from two years old and under, according to the time which he had ascertained from the wise men.
Alors Hérode, voyant qu'il avait été joué par les mages, entra dans un grand courroux, et il envoya mettre à mort tous les enfants qui étaient à Bethléem et dans tout son territoire, âgés de deux ans et au-dessous, conformément à la date dont il s'était enquis avec soin auprès des mages. —
17 Then was fulfilled, that which was spoken through Jeremiah the prophet, saying:
Alors fut accompli ce dont il a été parlé par l'entremise de Jérémie le prophète, lorsqu'il dit:
18 A voice, in Ramah, was heard, weeping and great mourning, —Rachel weeping for her children, and would not be comforted, —because they are not.
« Une voix a été entendue dans Rama, des pleurs et de nombreux gémissements; c'est Rachel qui pleure ses enfants, et elle ne voulait pas être consolée, parce qu'ils ne sont plus. »
19 But, when Herod was, dead, lo! a messenger of the Lord, appeareth by dream unto Joseph in Egypt;
Or, après qu'Hérode fut trépassé, voici, un ange du Seigneur apparaît en songe à Joseph en Egypte,
20 saying—Arise! and take unto thee the child and its mother, and be journeying into the land of Israel, —for they are dead, who were seeking the life of the child.
disant: « Éveille-toi, prends avec toi le petit enfant et sa mère, et mets-toi en route pour le pays d'Israël; car ceux qui en voulaient à la vie du petit enfant sont morts. »
21 And, he, arising, took unto him the child and its mother, and entered into the land of Israel.
Or, s'étant éveillé, il prit avec lui le petit enfant et sa mère, et il rentra dans le pays d'Israël.
22 Hearing, however, that, Archelaus, was reigning over Judaea instead of his father Herod, he was afraid, thither, to go, —and so, being instructed by dream, he retired into the parts of Galilee;
Mais, ayant appris qu'Archélaüs régnait sur la Judée à la place de son père Hérode, il craignit de s'y rendre, et ayant été averti dans un songe il gagna le territoire de la Galilée,
23 and came and fixed his dwelling in a city called Nazareth, —that it might be fulfilled which was spoken through the prophets—A Nazarene, shall he be called.
et, après y être arrivé, il s'établit dans une ville appelée Nazaret; — afin que fût accompli ce qui a été dit par l'entremise des prophètes: « Il sera appelé Nazoréen. » —
